Hello everyone. You probably don't need to know all that boring background stuff on me so I thought I'd just tell you what I think you'd most like to know as honestly as I can. My mission with my art is "Uniting diverse groups of people through the power of positive music" although that mission seems to expand every time I perform.

    This set contains four records with two abridged live performances. I have as yet only listened to the performance from 1974. This is one of the first pirated records to appear with the Swedish dramatic soprano Berit Lindholm. Let us hope that recordings from the Ring conducted by Sir Colin Davis at Covent Garden will appear soon! Meanwhile this Tristan from Amsterdam 1974 fills the gap with a truly amazing dramatic force. You can feel the amazement and tension among the public, crying out their "bravos" at the end. This is Lindholm's evening and a great one ideed. Totally involved in her part she becomes Isolde and everything catch fire... No Wagnerian or other opera lover can be without these records. The first two CD's concentrates on the part of Isolde (1974).The performance from 1979 (not with Lindholm)concentrates on the tenor, Spas Wenkoff - more comments will follow when I have listened to that. For the moment, the 5 stars are for the 1974 recording.

          Tim Franklin produces a great album full of wit and wisdom that you can dance to in a quirky sort of way. I have heard him play many of these tunes live on several occasions and the next best thing to having him belt it out in person in your living room is turning up the volume on this CD. The messages imparted in the music are meaningful to anyone who has contemplated difficult questions in life and you know that inlcudes you, dear reader. Do yourself a favor and buy this CD and keep your eyes and ears out for Franklin's future sonic destinations. I look forward to his next projects with anticipation . . .

          4 out of 5 stars Great intelligent and emotional album.......2007-02-06

          The visual and titular introduction to this album is pretty much dead-on: deceptively simple, but with nuanced care that creates a surprisingly dynamic and complex entity. Tim weaves the theme of minute self or public scrutiny (such as the entomology metaphor) through various subtle and overt manifestations, with a form of honesty and self-awareness that feels unique. For example, I love his admitted lyrical tactic in "Desensitized", where he strives to musically rid himself of an unpleasant emotion . . . by incorporating it into a song that he hopes to become desensitized to through repetition. Fantastic idea that came together into a really great song.

          Many of the songs display stormy musical emotion behind calmer vocal parts, such as "Disappearer", "Universe of Me", and "Trigger". This sonic layering represents well the turbulent inner world that many people experience when they have to make major life decisions or leaps of faith, while maintaining a calm front. Other songs are more unified emotional outbursts, such as "Nights for Days", which is a delicious little manic, punky tune about working a night job. The sheep noises at the end reinforce the fun, lighthearted intentions of this one, but even here, the song isn't one-dimensional. The clever lyrics and edgy vocals illuminate the jittery, backwards, psychotic nature of this lifestyle. Favorite lyric: "My geisha tan will light my way . . ."

          While we're on it, here are some other lyrics from "Universe of Me" that i love:

          Farmer boy was raised on retention, Ignorance and corn, Fertilize your rural lives in sh**
          Had to find some thought cultivation, Been fallow way too long, And this is the worst place I've ever been
          . . . .
          City boy was raised on pretension, Selfishness and porn, Eulogize your urban lives in black
          Had to find some soul renovation, Chelsea is a bore, And I don't think I'm ever going back


          While I love many of the songs on the album, I REALLY love the last song, "Blistering". It is a quieter, melancholy song with beautiful instrumental parts, and intimate, under-a-blanket-with-you vocals. For this reason, it is TO DIE FOR over headphones. The tail of the song is extended, and just the right length, but still heartbreaking when it ends. I find the mood created by this song to be soo wonderful- I want to wallow in it forever. Seriously, I would buy the album just for this song.


          One last note- Tim is a great performer- even solo with just an acoustic guitar. If you ever get the chance to see him live, I highly recommend it!

          Having heard a few of Tim Franklin's songs performed live and loving them, I really wanted to pick up this album and see if the rest of his music was just as good. It came in the mail on a day I was throwing a house party, so I opened it up and listened to it for the first time with a bunch of people over. IT WAS THE CROWD PLEASER OF THE NIGHT! No one had ever heard anything like it before and totally loved it. I give Tim Franklin two thumbs way up for making music worth listening to. If you're looking for ways to keep your guests' ears happy, you have got to buy this album!

          I don't really know where to catagorize this album in regard to genre. Partly because Tim is so unique, and partly because there's such a mix of music. I really enjoy the driving beats, riffs, and bass lines. The lyrics are thoughtful, witty, and eccentric all at the same time. The album moves me emotionally and my kids even love it!
