Whenever the wind blows against the trees near the lake, the house seems older than already is and we are ready to hear some wonderful chords from nature. Exactly the same happens with "SleepWalkers" (The Soundtrack). The Golden Era chords -shadows of the american dream- flow like the melancholy of a grown up eating jelly. These raw and penetrating songs acomplish the difficult task of getting into your head, activating your thinking (even when you see such a terrible movie like "Sleepwalkers", that doesn't have nothing to do with the life-stories -not the terror fiction- of one prolific writer called Stephen) to the point of losing yourself into the music to rich a higher state of mind. I hope this song will be out of my head one day, but, as its title confirms, SleepWalker would not rest until I do.

          With his sophomore effort, Neil Daly has evolved his sound into a fusion of rock, electonica and infectious pop hooks that are sampled on such singles as "Dizzy" and "Before You." While mainstream music may be a year or two away from him, Daly nevertheless has formed a strong foundation on which to build his career. For fans of his "Fight the Fuzzbars", the driving guitar rhythms on that album have taken a minor backseat, but the lyrical prowess he wields rivals most mainstream bands. Passages such as, "...Helpless when I've lost control/for your heart I'd sell my soul/can we just go...can we just go home..." speak volumes for his ability to touch the kindred spirits of love. The bottom line: the man can flat out make great music.

          "Sleepwalkers" marks a dramatic departure in music style from Daly's heavy-guitar driven debut album "Fight The Fuzz Bars." Opting for a lighter feel, "Sleepwalkers" is comprised of a dozen dreamy ballads played out to a more techno-organic score. While I must admit to being a bigger guitar fan than digital keyboard fan, the songwriting in "Sleepwalkers" is certainly a step ahead from "Fuzz Bars." The lyrics to songs like "She," "Dizzy," "Still Small Voice," and "Molasses Kiss," are poetic giving this album a more optimistic outlook by the last song's finish.

                Man was I blown away! Where have they been hiding these guys? As a fan of roots-rock, I read a review of this CD in Blue Suede News Magazine and decided to take a spin. All exept one song were original, played under the influence of like-minded hombres such as Los Lobos, the Blasters, Stray Cats, and even the Texas Tornados. The vocals of Johnny Valenzuela were very strong and soulful, the bass thumped and sounded much like an upright bass, the guitar was twangy with lots of 'verb, drum very snappy. From Jump-Blues, to Country and Tex-Mex, these cats covered it all!
