On this Texas group's first major-label release, which debuted in the Top Ten of the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, frontman Rogers and Americana star Randy Foster reprise the songwriting strength that marked the band's last album, Rollercoaster. But here, Foster--who again handles producer's duties--takes the quartet in a different direction, particularly on "Kiss Me in the Dark," a tune he cowrote with former hitmaker George Ducas. It's a sexy, radio-friendly song of skin-and-sheets surrender, and like several other efforts on Just a Matter of Time, delivers a libidinous afterglow. What it doesn't do is keep enough of the band's essential renegade character at its core, despite a smattering of Southern rock underpinnings. While Rogers is an affecting lead singer, and his wounded baritone excels at conveying the heat of obsession and fevered longing, in the end this all comes off reminiscent of a Firefall album from the late '70s--a bit too mellow, too AC pop, and too unsure of what it really wants to be, except successful. --Alanna Nash

Album Description

"We were really conscious about not letting the fact that this was going to be our major-label debut mess with our heads" says Rogers, "Because to us, this record is really just the next step. For many folks who don't know about the movement that's going on down here, it'll be their first look at us. But we approached this like we were making our fifth record, not our first. And there was a lot of trust from the label in terms of, `You guys go out there and make a record and turn it in, and we'll leave you alone and let you do your thing.'"

In exchange for that creative freedom (and the luxury of a considerably bigger budget than they'd ever had before), the band and Foster delivered on their end of the bargain. Like Rollercoaster before it, Just a Matter of Time plays like a rock 'n' roll album with a country heart as big as Texas, or a straight-up country record played by a killer rock 'n' roll band. But in fine country tradition, it's the uniform quality of the songs that really steals the show. All but two were co-written by Rogers (four with Foster himself, a potent combo that yielded many of Rollercoaster's brightest moments, including the single and "Somebody Take Me Home," later covered by Kenny Chesney for his The Road and the Radio album); the other two were contributed by bassist Richardson (a former front man in his own right) and Foster and George Ducas, who first struck gold co-writing Foster's first big solo hit, "Just Call Me Lonesome." Here, they contribute the irresistible "Kiss Me in the Dark! ," which was pretty much destined to be the lead single from the very first time the band heard it. "If we were going to cut an outside song, it had to be such a great song that you couldn't pass on it," says Rogers, smiling. "It would have to be a single."

"We just wanted this record to be an honest representation of where we were at when we signed our first major-label deal," says Rogers. "I think it's the best thing we've ever done, but … we're going to make another record pretty soon, and hopefully we'll feel like that's the best record we've ever done, too. The idea is to just continue to raise the bar."

Fantastic!.......2007-05-29

I stumbled onto RRB through pandora.com and have just been absolutely thrilled. After hearing songs from both Rollercoaster and Just A Matter of Time, I bought both CD's and love them both from beginning to end. As far as the Radney Foster influence, well, I don't know a single Radney Foster song. What's the deal here? It seems people are getting caught up in what they expected the album to be and the fear of what it wouldn't be instead of appreciating what it is.

I can't believe the bad reviews that some have posted about this album. Overall, the cd is solid top to bottom. There isn't a weak track on the entire cd. If you like the other albums by RRB, you'll like this one, as well. A lot of Texans get ticked that they've gone mainstream, but they are still the same.

Have you been to their shows? This album is like a show! Randy's voice sounds great and Brady's fiddle is amazing. The cd fits every mood, listen you will be addicted!

A new Randy Rogers.......2006-10-12

I must admit, I was very skeptical about the new Randy Rogers Band release, with there first major record label release I was worried that they would become just another Nashville sounding band. Well I was right, they were different, don't get me wrong I still like there music but it just isn't the Randy Rogers that I know and love, they have lost some of the sound that was so characteristically Randy Rogers Band. Obviously everyone is going to be talking about there latest single "Kiss Me In The Dark," while I do like the song its just so unlike any Randy Rogers song I have ever listened to. I also like the song "You don't know me," to me this is the most like any old song written by him, when people first listen to the new album in my truck this was the first song I played for them! The lyrics on this album are far different than anything the band has done before, its easy to pick up the outside influences, which I wish weren't there. I'm still drawn to these guys, you cant replace Randy Rogers voice, its one of the most unique voices in country music, I hope everybody at least gives there new album a chance, its still Randy Rogers and its still good, just a little different. If you are just now getting into the Randy Rogers Band then I would recommend "Like It Used To Be" and "Rollercoaster" from there previous albums, you wont be disappointed!

If you've ever met Randy you will know that he is the Will Rogers of Texas Country Music. He never met a man he didn't like, but has met at least one woman who has broken his heart. Nights on the road playing and partying with some of the most talented artists on the Texas music scene have spawned some incredibly passionate songwriting partnerships on Randy Rogers Band's new CD. Anyone who has done any livin at all can't help but have memories stirred up from this collection of hard hitting songs. From true heart breakers like Whiskey's Got A Hold On Me and If Anyone Asks to sexy songs like You Could Change My Mind and the bedroom ballad Kiss Me In The Dark RRB really gets the blood flowing. Randy belts them out with a haunting honesty that hits deep inside you. The band's awsome insrumental talents aren't hidden by the over-engineering that clutters many Nashville produced CDs. You Don't Know Me written by bass player Jon Richardson highlights each musician's incredible talent as the music drifts from one solo to the next. I can listen to RRBs music over and over, it just doesn't get old. Think this aint true Texas music? Don't just listen to the music, go see Randy and the guys when they come to town. Get close and let it sink into your skin like mesquite smoke from a campfire on a hot Hill Country night.

Party in a Jewl Case.......2002-05-09

First heard of these guys years ago when the Blues Bros. put out "Briefcase full of Blues", finally got around to checking them out and couldn't be happier. It's easy to see where Aykroyd in particular being a Canadian was enthused with these guys. The Downchild songs are among the best they covered. If you like Houserockers in general buy this it delivers.

Some Are More Famous, Nobody Does It Better!.......2001-03-26

Caught Downchild in Key Largo on the last gig of their winter 2001 tour of the Florida Keys. I hadn't seen Donnie Walsh and his great blues/jazz band since about 1982 in Toronto. First caught them in 1971 or so when they played my high school in London, Ontario. Fantastic to see them still in the game and cooking fit to set the building on fire.

Donnie Walsh demonstrated his mastery of blues harmonica and guitar throughout the set--no surprise there. Everyone else in the band displayed formidable chops and a real appreciation of ensemble playing--even with all the virtuoso soloing and fills, no-one stepped on anyone else, ever. Special surprise at this gig was the appearance of guest alto saxophonist Richie Cole--well known in the jazz world for his Phil Woods/Charlie Parker-influenced playing. One of the evening's high points was Richie's solo spot, where he took the band down low and demonstrated a simply breathtaking alto technique. Close your eyes and you'd have sworn it was Charlie Parker himself up there, spiraling off on the upper intervals of the chords at warp speed. Just a great treat to watch from ten feet away.

Sadly, Donnie's brother Hock, with whom he founded Downchild some thirty-plus years ago, passed away this past year. He's greatly missed, but the band goes on under Donnie's leadership, its power and enthusiasm intact. Suffice to say that there is a very good reason the Blues Brothers (Dan Akroyd and John Belushi in character, in case you didn't know) covered so many of this great Canadian blues band's original tunes: they're superb. Check out "Flip, Flop, and Fly", "Everything I Need (Almost)" and "Shotgun Blues" for starters. Then listen on from there. This fairly definitive collection of Downchild's best is thoroughly deserving of inclusion in anyone's music library, whether your tastes run from blues to jazz to rock 'n' roll. Get A MATTER OF TIME: THE DOWNCHILD COLLECTION--it's well worth the price of admission.

I waited for this for five years.......2006-06-30

Between Amazone, Ebay and Napster, I don't usually buy CDs anymore, and I usually wait till I can buy them cheaper "new and used". When this set came out, I was excited, mainly by Disc 5, but wasn't going to spend $70 on it. I waited till it was cheap enough, and got it for Father's day this year.
It was worth the wait.

The concept is great. The packaging is great. The recording is great. Disc five is really cool for an ALW aficionado. There are a few real gems on it; my favorites are Petula Clark's "I Could Have Given You More" and "Benedicite."
I've always thought "Gus the Theatre Cat" made a great medley on the piano with "Unexpected Song" and "I DOn't Know How to Love Him," but wished there was an alternate lyric to match the other two songs. Now that I know there *is*, and it's a good lyric, it's a dream come true.
The melody of "Benedicite" is one of my favorites from _Sunset_ (the book mis-identifies it as "SUrrender"; it's actually "The Lady's Paying" and "Eternal Youth is Worth a Little Suffering"). The lyrics are the canticle from Daniel 3, which comes up every odd Sunday in the Divine Office, so it's nice to have cool music to sing it with.

I haven't bought _By Jeeves_ or _THe Beautiful Game_ yet, to it was great to sample them.

There are other parts of the CD taht aren't found in my collection. I like CD 4 "The Hits."

But the selections on CDs 1-3 don't make sense.

First, any self-respecting ALW fan has the Original London Cast of _Phantom_, so six tracks are totally useless. Why not draw from the Canadian cast with Colm Wilkinson? Or pull out some obscure recordings never published.

Why two different tracks with Michael Ball singing "Love Changes Everything", yet they're hardly any different?

On Disc 5 is "It's Only Your Lover Returning," sung by Julie Covington. It's an early draft of the song (Lloyd Webber and Rice went through several suggested titles) and quite nice. The very thing one expects on a Boxed Set.
So why have the Julie Covington "Don't Cry for Me" on disc 1?? The only difference is a few words, but it's otherwise identical. Why not Elaine Paige or Patti Lupone or Madonna?

The _Evita_ section is otherwise the best, choosing a sample from each major recording, though I'd have chosen slightly differently (as above).

There is a great selection of "Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer" from the Sydmonton festival, using the original music that was changed when _Cats_ went to Broadway_. It would have been nice if they'd included more recordings from Sydmonton, like the original lyric of "All I Ask of You" shown on the second DVD to the _Phantom_ movie.

With so many great actress-singers who've played Norma Desmond, why does the collection beat us over the head with Glenn Close?

Paul Miles Kingston must be set for life in royalties, for the number of albums the original recording of "Pie Jesu" has appeared on. "Amigos Para Siempre" is nice, but it reminds me of Shari Lewis's "The Song that Doesn't End," especially when it's been used on so many compilations.

In short, this is a great collection for the obscure material, if you can get it cheap. But for a boxed set, it's a poor sampling, drawn mostly from the most familiar recordings.

Excellent collection but BIG PUBLISHING MISTAKE! .......2006-01-10

Please beware they made a mistake on this. It's actually the shortened Ray Shell version of STARLIGHT EXPRESS from the original 1984 London cast - NOT the El Debarge single from 1987 like it says on the box. I don't know how they let that goof pass. Sorry to Ray Shell. Having said that, this is an outstanding compilation of Lloyd Webber's greatest hits.

ONE OF LLOYD WEBBER'S BEST COMPILATIONS, DESPITE A FEW FLAWS.......2005-03-21

Regardless of the fact that some of his latest efforts (most notably, The Woman in White) are disappointing, there can be little doubt that Andrew Lloyd Webber is one of the greatest composers ever to work in the musical theatre. Ever since his "Jesus Christ Superstar" hit the stage in the early 70-is, it was clear that the conception and perception of musicals are never going to be the same again. Many of his songs became standards not only in the theatre history, but also as tops on the charts. Even though he's British, his influence on the shape of the modern musical theatre expanded over the West End boundaries long ago and has thus made an enormous impact on Broadway. Two of his shows ("Cats" and "The phantom of the opera") hold the record as two the longest running shows in the history of Broadway. He has also been the only composer to have three of his shows running at Broadway concurrently. Some of his awards include three Grammies, a Golden Globe, an Oscar and a bunch of Tony awards. But perhaps most of all, Lloyd Webber is responsible for bringing the musicals and the theatre appealing to the wide audiences, who in different circumstances would not consider seeing a musical. The secret of his success is probably the mixture of beautiful and catchy melodies, interesting subject matter (though some, like Starlight Express, are too thin) and grandiose staging.

Over the years many compilations of his work have emerged. In the late 80-is and early 90-is it was the "Encore" series and lately the one-disc collection called "Gold". The one in question here can be considered one of the best currently on the market. First, it includes a 3-disc selections from all of his shows, minus the latest one, i.e., "The Woman in White", which, considering the triviality of the score, is no great lost. The fourth disc covers some of his most known songs sung by the famous artists. Then, there is the fifth disc with previously unreleased material, most of which are the songs ALW wrote with Tim Rice for various artists during the 70-is. The disks are all neatly packed in a hardcover book that features 67 pages of pictures and text with information about each of ALW's shows. One of the other assets here is the perfect sound quality, since all of the tracks have been digitally remastered.

Here are my basic impressions and comments regarding the material on the discs:

* Disc #1 has the selections from "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Evita", "Cats" and "Song & Dance". The Superstar material mostly comes from the Concept Recording. Although the songs sound beautiful as always, their orchestration is a bit dated now. Only Steve Balsamo's "Gethsemane" from the 1996 revival cast has a modern rock sound. "Evita" comes with the material from all of the major recordings: London, Broadway and the movie productions, as well as the Concept album. No objections here; since this is one of ALW's most satisfying works, every song is just perfect, although Patti LuPone, the Broadway and overall the best Evita, is left with only a couple of lines. With the selections from "Cats", however, I have some doubts. A plus to the choice of the "Jellicle ball" impressive orchestral sequence from the 1998 movie version and "Mister Mistoffelees" from the 1981 London cast. One of the best known ALW's songs, "Memory", also comes from that album. It's a pretty version and Elaine Paige's rendition cannot be matched, but why include this when the definite version, featuring an 80-piece orchestra and Elaine Paige with much better interpretation, can be found in the same movie version. Thusly, one has to buy Elaine Paige's latest 2-disc compilation "Centre Stage: The very best of Elaine Paige" to get that one. And "Gus the theatre cat" is more a recital than a song, so there was not much point in including that. Marti Webb brings her vocal charm to the "Song & Dance" sequence, Sarah Brightman sings "Unexpected song" with her famous soprano, but as much as I like her version, Bernadette Peters, who was in this show on Broadway is strangely left out here.

* Disc # 2 starts with "Starlight Express". This was never one of my favorite ALW's shows; the plot is even lighter than in "Cats" and the 1984 original cast recording is terribly dated. Yet, here we have one terrific duet, "I am starlight" from the original together with three songs from the later revivals and it seems that fresh orchestrations were just the thing Starlight needed. My favorite remains a touchy ballad, "Next time you fall in love". "Requiem" is the most solemn of all ALW's compositions, written in 1985 to commemorate the death of his father. Placido Domingo's tenor rides together with the chorus all the way through the strong "Hosanna", only to be joined by Sarah Brightman in the final moments of this song. She then gives an echoing deliverance of "Pie Jesu". What can be said of ALW's next show, "The Phantom of the Opera"? A phenomenon in its own right, it's easy to see from the six numbers included here why this is one of the best and most beloved musicals of all time. The cast, the music, the story - everything is perfect. Although "Aspects of love" was never a popular hit, it does have some of the most beautiful love melodies ALW has ever written. "Love changes everything" sung by Michael Ball is probably one of the best tunes ever about love. The rest of the selected material here has a dreamy love flavor and the melodies find their way into your brain in the best Lloyd Webber way.

* ALW's first musical, "Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dreamcoat" was more successful in its revival form than the original from the 70-is. The three songs included here are sung by the show stars, Jason Donovan and Donny Osmond. Maria Friedman was not a lucky choice to play the narrator, as the track from the 1998 movie version shows. "By Jeeves" was ALW's only big flop when it came to the stage in the 70-is. The 1995 revival sounds much better though, full of funny numbers in the best manner of the musical comedy. "Travel hopefully" remains one of the show's highlights on this compilation. "Sunset Boulevard" comes next. "Sunset" remains for me one of Webber's best scores; lush and beautiful. I listen to the original cast recording with Patti LuPone all the time. However, here most of the songs are performed by Glenn Close. A big mistake. If you've ever listened the American premiere recording with her, you'll know what I am talking about. She may have a strong stage presence, but her vocal abilities are too limited, and her aggressive approach to the role lacks any subtlety. Therefore, the two big numbers from this show, "With one look" and "As if we never said goodbye" are ruined by the fact she can't sing. The same goes for the American Joe Gillis, who was played by Alan Campbell. Luckily, Patti LuPone and Kevin Anderson, the original Norma and Joe from the London production, make their brief entrance here with the "Perfect year"; enough to show how better they are. The funny thing is, on the jacket and inside of it, Glenn Close and Alan Campbell are credited as performers in this song as well. If this was a mistake on ALW's part, it was a good one. The next ALW's show, "Whistle down the wind" was never a critic's dear and yet the audiences rushed in to see it in London. The score brings back ALW to his rock and roll roots of the seventies and the story is quite interesting. But the selections here are not the happiest, since the cast recording boasts with much better songs. And finally, "The Beautiful Game". Again, we have one of those ALW's shows that is worth in its individual parts rather than as a whole. "Our kind of love" and "Let us love in peace" are two catchy ballads. The latter is a nice amalgam version not available elsewhere. The two other tracks here I could live without.

* Disc # 4 has the songs from all the above shows performed by different artists. The assembled tracks have their pros and cons. For example, we have some previously unreleased stuff, like Dame Kiri Te Kanawa's operettic rendition of "The heart is slow to learn", or a stunning and epic "A kiss is a terrible thing to waste" from "Whistle down the wind", performed by The Metal Philharmonic Orchestra. Then again, what was the point in including almost identical tracks as the ones on the previous disks? So we have Michael Ball again singing "Love changes everything" with only a bit different orchestration; Sarah Brightman comes out again with the same Phantom duets, but only with the different male singers. It would be much more appropriate to include tracks from the Toronto Cast of the Phantom, with Colm Wilkinson. Other pop deliverances (Tina Arena's "Whistle down the wind", Barbra Streisand's "As if we never said goodbye", Boyzone's "No matter what" and many more) were wisely chosen. Patti LuPone is again nowhere to be found and Petula Clark's "With one look" sounds too worn-out.

* The last disc is probably the one that will be of most interest to Lloyd Webber aficionados. It consists of entirely previously unreleased material ALW for the most part wrote for various artists during his early years, with Tim Rice. Some of these tunes, not successful as a singles, were later used in his shows. Thus "Down thru' summer" became "Buenos Aires"in Evita, "Try it and see", an unsuccessful attempt for the Eurovision was used for "King Herod's song" in "Superstar" and so on. Some of these songs are nicely made pop songs: "Make believe love", ALW's first recorded composition, for which he provided the lyrics; "Goodbye Seattle", sung by Paul Raven, who later became Gary Glitter; "Come back Richard, your country needs you", from a never made musical, sung here by Tim Rice, or Latin flavored "Magdalena", with Tony Christie singing. My all time favorite here is a song called "It's easy for you", sung by none other than Elvis Presley himself. Lloyd Webber and Rice sent him a demo recording that he accepted and recorded this live version a couple of weeks before he died. It's amazing to hear how his voice remained in the perfect shape. Also, there is a track of Andrew Lloyd Webber singing "Policle dogs and Jellicle cats" while plying the piano. His voice doesn't sound bad at all.

Taken as a whole, this compilation makes a perfect birthday or Christmas present to any fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber shows, or just anybody interested in some of the best tunes from the modern era of the musical theatre; despite the flaws I mentioned above. To the former, it may just be the final addition for the Andrew Lloyd Webber collection.

"Evita." "Sunset Blvd." "Starlight Express." "Jesus Christ Superstar." "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." "Requiem." "Aspects of Love." The man who is the most recognized composer in the history of the musical theatre, the man who has won more Tonys than any other composer, the man who boasts the best-selling show of all time ("The Phantom of the
Opera") and the longest-running show of all time ("Cats"), the man whose homes are filled with three Grammys, five Oliviers, a Golden Globe, and Oscar and too many other honors and hosannas to mention, the man knighted in 1992 certainly doesn't need an introduction. Now Decca Broadway pays tribute to Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber with "Now and Forever," a spectacular 5-CD set compiled and produced by Sir Andy himself. It's cheaper than a
ticket to "The Producers" ... and more much exciting. This treasure trove contains highlights from all of Webber's shows, and a bonus disc of tunes sung by Betty Buckley, Barbara
Streisand, Jose Carreras, Boy George, Charlotte Church, Madonna, Tom Jones, Petula Clark, even Elvis! A must for lovers of theatre---and good music.

A Must Have for Sir Andrew fans.......2002-05-21

This five-CD collection of Andrew Lloyd Webber's career is fantastic. It leaves virtually no stone unturned. I have no doubt that diehard Webber fans will love this, especially for the 5th disc entitled "From the Vaults." This disc alone is worth the price as it contains tunes never before heard by the typical fan. Who knew Elvis did a Lloyd Webber tune?!? I didn't! Also the tune "Benedictine" which the composer wrote for his most recent marriage is not only pretty, but it has the same medley as "The Lady's Paying" from "Sunset Blvd." which I found highly enjoyable. Another great track is the composer himself singing a cut song from "Cats" entitled "Pollicle Dogs and Jellicle Cats" which has the same tune as "Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats," but to hear Sir Andrew sing is a blast...he sounds a lot like Al "Year of the Cat" Stewart.
The cuts from the musicals are great but are likely owned by ALW fans as they are on the original cast albums. And I'm glad that there were tunes included from the composers most recent efforts which have yet to make it beyond London (Whistle Down the Wind, Beautiful Game).
My only complaint is the inclusion of way too many tracks by Sarah Brightman. She must've received a great divorce settlement that included having tunes on any ALW collection until the end of time!! Her interpretations of some of the tunes were limp and uninspired. I would've much rather heard casts from around the world rather than yet another song by this disdainful soprano! How about Colm Wilkinson's version of "Music of the Night" from the original Canadian cast of "Phantom"? Or Michael Crawford's version of "Unexpected Song"? What? No Betty Buckley from "Sunset Blvd."? And of course there are songs you KNOW are going to be on the collection before you even listen to it as they have been on EVERY ALW collection for the past decade or so.
A great collection but too much Sarah Brightman!

Time Capsule.......2006-11-30

The voices and instruments, like the songs, are straight from the mid-19th century. If you want to be transported back in time 150 years to a wonderful parlor performance of Foster's songs, this is the album to do it. The voices are marvelous and trained, and one must imagine that the strict phrasing and style are what one would have expected at the time. The cheap upright piano is perfect.

But the one perfect moment for me is the ONLY good extant rendition of "Was My Brother in the Battle?". Accompanied on a harmonium or pump reed organ, if this song doesn't tempt a tear, you simply aren't a romantic.

Very highly recommended.

Unexpected.......2005-11-26

Quality of this recording is fantastic! Performances are superb! However, they don't fit being an example of Foster's music and times. I was expecting banjos and a Mississippi Sound - therfore, very, very disappointed in this CD and consider and a waste of money. Be sure to LISTEN to a few examples to match what you are looking for and what the CD offers. I, unfortunately did not listen before I bought. I rate this low only because my expectations were shattered. This IS a fine CD if opera styles are ok for an example of this southern, 1800's composer's work.

An album to treasure.......2004-09-23

The landmark Library of Congress album, now on enhanced CD. Years
ago, I went on a six-months field assignment to a remote area of
Africa, where I could take only what music I could carry in a vest
pocket. I chose a tape player and two albums: a recital by Perlman
and this album on tape, and was content. If you love American
music, sung poetry, beautiful singing and deeply moving musicality,
this is an album you will treasure for a lifetime.

A classic recording of American songs.......2004-08-22

What can I say that hasn't already been said below? I only wanted to reiterate how wonderful this album is and assure the reader the sound is spectacular on CD. This is a live recording, and intentionally so, as the idea was to create a "parlor" experience as these were parlor songs to be sung by family and friends around the old upright piano. I especially liked the comment about the upright piano which, indeed, does croak and clank throughout the performance adding a note of "authenticity" without becoming obtrusive.

If only Ms. DeGaetani had graced my parlor...

I have never heard such unadulterated extraworldy sound emanate from two human voices and what would otherwise be firewood (the period instruments played by Gilbert Kalish). It stirs profound patriotism and a deep sentimentality for our early days when a civilized people pined to find virtue by examining its own body-- the north and the south, the small town, the simple flag, and the beauty of gentile manly and womanly love expressed through equisite song. There is no other music I would rather hear 'when summoning up the remembrance of things past.' The ghost of the early American parlor will prick your skin through these simple hymns and you may escape for a moment our troubled and busy times.

This was a true slammin' cd by Vertical Hold and it also catapulted Angie Stone's solo career. This cd is very hard to find and i suggest to anyone who do come across it, you'd better keep a watchful eye on it because someone will snatch it. I love that track "Seems you're much too busy".

Great Album .......2007-03-28

I bought this album to see how Angie Stone was before she became the Queen of Neo-Soul, and I was not suprised. No wonder why I love Angie Stone so much. She has been putting out great music for years. You can listen to every song on this album and you would not have to push the skip button. My favorite songs are A.S.A.P., Matter of Time, 7,6,5(For Love), Don't Say Goodbye, and of course Seems You're Much Too Busy. You can see that video on youtube. But this whole album is fantastic. I need to get it replaced because someone stole it.

Don't sleep on this album plese .......2006-06-11

As the first two reviewers said before this album is not getting the amount of airplay it deserves. When I first bought it. I bought it mainly because of the title track then as I began to listen to it every song ministered to me in it's own way. My favorites have to be Welcome in your Presence, Still Here, God Can, You Survived, My father knows and you are holy.

This album deserves a lot more air play then it has been receiving. If you are looking for an album that really ministers to your soul then this should be in your collection. The title song itself is enough for you to purchase the album. I know that even though i went through a lot of hard times in my life, I am still a survivor. James fortune & Fiya keep ministering and letting God use you.

It seems like a lot of people are sleeping on this album. When I heard the title track "You Survived" on the radio over a year ago I knew I had to find out who the song was from. WHen I finally got the CD it really ministered to me from day one. It is such a uplifting album. I think it's great for young adults, well I think everyone can recieve something from this album. "God Can" is another uplifting track. Also, "I'm Still Here" really spoke to me, because I am a college student and it always seems like something, whether it be financially, in classes, with time or anything is going wrong.

Love the CD, I hope others will pick it up and I pray that is ministers to them like it did and continues to do with me.

Excellent album. Upbeat tracks and lively music for young christians as well as the young at heart.

Wow. What more to say than wow. This album is mad hott. If you like gospel and you like some hott cats usin their musical gifts to the fullest, then this album is for you. Excellent vocal talents featuring Shawn McClemore, Nikki Ross Turneley, and EB layin down the 16 bars. This is one of the HOTTEST gospel joints goin on right now. Also in this album is the work of keyboard player Terrence Vaughn, who is a phenominal keyboard player. Terrence helped produce this album, and works with LL Cool J and Brent Jones. All the players on this CD are top notch musicians. Best of all James keeps it real and tells it like it is, his lyrics are down to earth and for real. You gotta love this CD for what it is, and for the incredible talent displayed throughout each track. Two hott tracks to check out are "Praise Anthem" and "Dance (remix)". The best thing I can compare FIYA to is Tye Tribbett and GA, or John P. Kee. If you like gospel this is the CD to get!!

Not to be missed!!!.......2007-04-30

This CD is simply excellent! Anybody who ever cared for TV soundtracks should give it a chance. The only better thing is Barry Gray's music for "UFO" TV series, which has been promised from Silva Screen (and has been published by "Fanderson" and since sould out). So, whatever somebody think of the series, this music will not fail to delight. Impressive and nostalgic, mysterious and enthralling, this music really deserves to be heard by everybody.

Great year one compilation.......2007-01-09

This remastered version of Space:1999 year one or series one sounds excellent. It is very clear and you can better appreciate Barry Gray wonderful job.

If you are Space:1999 fan, it is a must have.

Fantastic Future Score.......2005-04-01

Space:1999 - the series - may be one of the most controversial SF shows ever. People either love it, or they hate it... there seems to be little middle ground. As a kid I was thrilled with the series, although even then I could see the weaknesses in science, story, and characterization. But from a purely visual and aural standpoint, the first series rarely disappointed.

Especially when it came to the music. As many fans know, Barry Gray scored only 4 episodes - the rest being rounded out by reusing his cues for those episodes, plus liberal doses of library music. This disc gives a good overview of the magnificent music written specifically for the series, as well as a sampling of some of those library cues. As a previous reviewer said, the ultimate soundtrack to the series was released several years ago by the Fanderson organization ( which one had to join as a member to be able to order ) and is sadly out of print. Copies can be found on the internet, often selling for prohibitive prices. Unless you are a diehard collector, willing to shell out a good sized portion of your paycheck, this single disc is the way to go.

Sound quality is superb, and in some cases surpasses the previously mentioned two disc set, as several of the tracks have been remastered to remove wow, flutter, and distortion that could be heard on the Fanderson set. The main title was remixed to make it truer to the on-screen version, and the tracks from the episode "Black Sun" are in stereo on CD here for the first time ever. The previous release featured the episode's complete score, but only as a monophonic version, as many of the multitrack masters for that particular episode have been lost. For that alone, this disc is worth owning, even if you have the Fanderson set.

However, it is Gray's music that is the true reason to own this soundtrack - regardless of your feelings about the series. Full bodied, sweeping, emotional and grand... not at all your typical seventies television soundtrack. Years before John Williams revived the popularity of orchestral scores for science fiction projects, Barry Gray was filling small screen speakers with epic music that would have sounded perfectly at home in a motion picture theatre.

Space 1999 Year One Soundtrack Available Once Again!.......2005-03-09

I give this soundtrack 5 stars only because the soundtrack is awesome, but if you want a more complete compilation, you need to find the Fanderson version.
The year 1 music definately set the tone for the TV show back in 1975. It gave it beautiful character and feeling for the show. It was ashame that for the second year that they had changed so much (even the music) and lost that character and feeling (but that is a whole other debate).
In 1976, RCA records released the year 1 soundtrack with a beautiful gate fold cover and for about 20+ years, that is all we had, until Fanderson. The year 1 soundtrack is no longer available through them, but it is the most complete. This CD, however, does well to capture the feeling of year 1 and does throw an additional track for you sun bathers out there. It is a nice 30 year anniversary gift to myself. Happy 30th Birthday: SPACE 1999!!!

In spite of his many new forays into the world of acting, Randy Travis will always be country music's Great Stoneface, an unreadable character with one of the five greatest male voices in country history. Travis's singing is so rich, so spot-on, he could revarnish an entire patio with a single three-minute tune. Travis live is just like Travis on record, except that when he has a good audience there's a buoyancy not usually found on disc, which happens to be the case on this concert album. Clocking in at nearly 80 minutes, the CD is a companion to the DVD, released simultaneously, but it's more than just a Travis hits package: it's an hour and 20 minutes of Travis at his best, doing his best tunes, for an audience that really cares. This is a great CD! I just love it and listen to it over & over! I am a true Randy Travis fan and have most of his CDs. This one is one of his very best ones! It ranks right up there with You And You Alone as his best work to date! I just wish I could find it on cassette too. If you love to hear Randy sing you will want this in your collection!

Why, Why, Why???.......2003-09-13

I love Randy Travis, and I have yet to find a bad album in his discography. That's why I hate to include this in his discography.

To me, this is kind of like an "unauthorized" release. It just doesn't fit with the rest of his material. And yes, that is weird to me, since this is basically a greatest hits cd.

But getting down to business. Randy is in good voice here, and he does the best he can. This is just another night on stage, with the same old songs.

I wish he would have forgotton about a live release and went ahead and waited and had another studio album.

This is one of those cds you will buy, listen to a few times, then find under the seat of your car, and think to yourself, "I forgot I had this."

Just pass this one on by.

When travelling the States (frequently coming over from Europe) it's hard to avoid Randy Travis on any of the stations, and I must admit that I have hummed along to a lot of his songs, too. Even bought a CD in 1998 because of the strength of hits such as as "Digging' up Bones" and "Out of My Bones".

As a music fan, I've always loved live recordings, so I went and bought this one recently. Randy Travis admittedly has got a remarkable voice, but after three or four tracks (and strangely they all clock in at exactly 3 minutes) I found the individual songs pretty much alike, be it his recently Gospel-flavored stuff or older hits, not too much variety here. The arrangements are C&W-neat but sterile throughout, including the one-liners between songs.

I really love handmade country music, but this recording (as well as the DVD) offer just too little variation to anybody but the dedicated fan. Other great live performers with roots in Country Music (be sure to check out Willie Nelson, Dan Fogelberg or John Denver concert recordings) give their audiences an evening of Country PLUS Blues, Rock, Pop - whatever, and they've also had a hand in writing their own stuff, while Randy Travis basically just interprets the same three-minute song over and over again (custom-written by others).

With a great voice like his, Randy Travis could and should really aim for higher ground. Sorry if anybody feels annoyed by this, but not all of the ratings can be 5-stars :-)

Randy Travis Performs it Live in "Just a Matter of Time".......2001-09-01

Whether you are looking for that CD with a lot of great Randy Travis hits, or whether you are looking for a CD that will give you the feeling of attending that Randy Travis concert you've never been able to attend, this one's for you. From the most upbeat hits like "before You Kill Us all" and "Better class of Losers" to the ballads of "Spirit of a Boy, wisdom of a Man," you can enjoy that soothing baritone of one of the best traditional country singers still recording today. As a reviewer who had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the show, I can say the crowd was certainly energized by the variety of songs this release has to offer. You too can join in, clapping along to such songs as "If I Didn't Have You," "Shallow Water," and others as the audience did and just sitting back and listening to that melodic voice sing his rendition of the old Brook Benton tune "Just a Matter of Time,." "Look Heart, No Hands," and "Baptism." With the CD nearing the end, the two encore songs of "Runaway Train" and the old Roger miller tune "King of the Road" will only leave you wanting more. Unlike when I attended it live last December of 2000, with the CD you can just hit the replay button and sit back and relax. Now you've got to admit, there are not too many live shows you can just have instant replay.

If you have had the chance to previously attend one of Randy's shows, it is sure to bring back memories of many of those good old hits you heard that evening.

If you have never experienced Randy's performances or never experienced any of Randy's music, why not consider it now. Available in DVD, VHS, CD and cassette, each version has a little something to offer. While the CD and tape are in general the songs and introductions to the songs themselves, the VHS has one short interview prior to the show, a joke and introduction of the accompanying band members, while the DVD (although the show portions is much the same as the VHS) has an extensive interview one can enjoy.

I made the trip from Texas to California to attend this show live but now you can enjoy it in the comfort of your own living room or wherever you choose. Don't let this one get away!!!
