Brandy Alexandra Foltz - singer/songwriter studio musicians: Vic Lipsey: guitars Izzy Rehaume: bass Paul Roraback: drums Ron Siegal: table on "Mole" Robert Von Felt: background vocals on "Misty Moon" REVIEW1: Real energy from the get-go. Brandy Alexandra could be Jewel, but angrier. Her birdsong voice and high energy are the best thing about an album. "Refuse" is catchy,... a song that'll worm its way into your head. "Little Girl", the softest number (and) perfect complement to Foltz's crystal clarity. -Matt Cooper REVIEW1_SOURCE: YH-R
Album Description
High energy and introspective. Raw honest lyrics in varying poetic styles that complement the underlying rock foundation of the songwriter's influence of jazz, blues, and folk.

Interesting, but something just doesn't gel........2007-06-23
OK, let me start by saying that I do like most of the album. I'm only really writing this review to help others like myself who only hear the clips here or on iTunes before buying the CD, only to be disappointed when they get it. All of the clips I heard were good enough for me to take a chance on this CD. However, most of the album is NOT like the clips I heard. It's not bad by any means, but it is different.
I will describe it with the recurring thoughts that ran through my head as I listed to it several times this week:
1. The music reminds me a lot of Metallica's And Justice For All. Now I loved "Justice," but a lot of fans didn't. This album is just as progressive if not more so. Very good musicianship.
2. Her vocals are very good. Reminds me of the female vocalist that Sirenia had on "At Sixes & Sevens." For me, anyway, that is a damn good thing. That was always my favorite CD by Sirenia BECAUSE of her.
3. Did someone dub the wrong vocals over this song? This is my main complaint with the album. The vocals don't mesh with the music. And by that I mean they don't sound like they belong with the music being played on some of the songs. Some of them are fine, but on some I keep thinking that the band just took her vocals and slapped them over another song that they liked playing better. (Yes, I do realize that this MAY be some high-brow experiment in musical progression that I just don't enjoy, but if it's hard to listen too, then how do they expect to attract new listeners? In 4 days, I've already had 3 people comment on this that have heard it in my truck.)
When all is said and done, it is a good CD, and I am eagerly awaiting their next offering. I just hope they tighten up the vocals with the music. Her voice deserves the respect.
Pass.......2007-06-06
I bought this album because Deadlock's "Wolves" CD piqued my interest in what other female-fronted melodic metal bands had to offer.
This one was a disappointment.
The singer is completely out of sync with the rest of the band as she seems to stay in the same 3 minor keys no matter what the rest of them are playing. The musicianship is sub-par to say the least and by the end of the album, I could only reach the conclusion that the record companies are in too much of a hurry to sign any band who sounds like Lacuna Coil.
Pass on this one and get "Wolves" instead.
Awesome CD...Buy it!.......2007-05-15
Combine the massive drumming of Fear Factory, the excellent dual-guitar work of Iron Maiden, and the best vocals this side of Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, and Leaves Eyes (ex-Theater of Tragedy), and you have just a hint of how phenomenal this band really is. What you can't imagine, unless you listen, is how their sound is so totally captivating. This combination of aggressive music and ethereal vocals, transcends Evanescence (Amy Lee is a great singer), and most other music in this genre of female lead goth/symphonic metal. It really is a spectacular debut album; I cannot stop listening...it sucks you in, and just won't let go.
It's not all that.......2007-04-24
This CD definitely lacks in being congruent. The singer seems to be in her own world while the musicians are off thrashing half the time. It's like she is singing to different music. Very strange.
A promising first album.......2007-04-21
The first comment I will make regarding this album is the strong production value. I believe the guitarist, drummer and singer are all studio engineers and it shows. Given the fact this was released on an independent label I can't imagine the sound quality being any better. The only real complaint I can make about the production is the singing of Francine Boucher is over processed at times.
The guitar compositions are very strong; Brandon Patton is certainly a master of his craft. Other than the obvious sex appeal that Francine Boucher brings to the band I am not sure that she is on the same musical par as Brandon Patton & Kirk Carrison.
Although typical of other bands in the genre, another potential grumble might be that the songs run a little long. Which raises the question, is Echoes of Eternity content being a progressive metal band or do they want mainstream crossover appeal? I feel that the potential is there to make a strong statement on the national scene with more accessible vocals and shorter compositions.
Also I have to laugh when the credits say that the band is "from LA & Japan". Stop fronting guys you know you all are from Columbia, SC. Don't be ashamed of where you came from, Evanescence hails from Little Rock Arkansas and all they have done is sell 14 millions albums and win two Grammy Awards.
Bottom line is that the CD is a worthy purchase and seems to grow on you after a listen or two (you will have "Forgotten Goddess" stuck in your head I promise). If the band does read reviews I would like to see an instrumental where Brandon & Kirk unleash the full fury in an uncompromising instrumental song.

This was a really good album!!.......2007-06-27
This album is old and my review is way late but this is one of my fave albums. "Hippychick" is probably the only song most people recognize but the album was full of catchy songs.
"Love Generation" is the first track and it's a feel good, dancey song that makes you want to listen to it again. Probably the best track on the album.
Other good tunes are "Freaky" and "Goddess". You cannot listen to this album without wanting to get up and dance.
This group was talented. I wonder whatever happened to them?
It's okay.......2002-10-29
I thought about 3 of the songs were good. #2 is my favorite and that is why I bought the CD, Hippychick is a song I haven't heard since I was 10 yrs old. It's been great to hear it again after 13 years of not hearing it. That guitar begining was something I was never able to get out of my head. Overall, the CD is okay, not great, but I still like track #2!
Still one of my favorites..........2002-05-28
I still love this CD as much as I did when I was in high school...it contains a little something for everything - fast & upbeat; melancholy & lyrical; techno-esque beats and fun lyrics. Not too deep, but good "convertible" or "summer music"
Soho's Cuff Sisters are now members of Copenhagen.......2002-04-18
Hey, if you're missing the exquisite vocals of Jacqui and Pauline Cuff, the voices of Soho, they are alive and recording with the group Copenhagen in the UK. They still have their great twin sound. I hope Amazon will soon add Copenhagen to their inventory. Currently, the Cuff sisters are singing with Neil Henderson who leads the group. Tim London, who produced Soho and played guitar is still the preferred producer for Copenhagen---so the gang is alive and well in the UK as Copenhagen. Check them out!
Very Hip Effort !.......2000-09-15
One of the best pre-alternative/soft hip-hop/trip/hop bands to come out of the early 90's. Too bad after only two or three c.d.s Soho became "so long".
All sentimental sincerities aside, Goddess proved to be more of an underground success from the U.K. then a top 40 mainstream pop band for commercial consumption. A good thing, too; This only showed that Soho did it more for the art than the industry. When I heard the female lead singers (the Cuff sisters) before seeing their video, I had a strong mental image of the two resembling a couple of Anglo American gals ( a look between Joan Osbourne and Sarah McLachlan or Alanis Morissette). Was I surprised and delighted to find out they were from England of Negro descent with closely shaved heads and a free-style artistic experimental attitude !
The entire album does not contain a single toss out track or tune based on mediocrity. It possesses an almost retro-feel of the 60's with 70's and 90's musical pop influences. Soho only produced three albums, Noise, Goddess and Thug. Skip the first and last one. Goddess is a Godsend !...

Good to the bone.......2003-09-24
Classic Fender piano sound of the seventies along with the sensational vocals of Earth Wind & Fire. Other tracks combine all the thrills of good jazz/funk musicians to accomplish a really polished album. Never a dull moment!
Very Good But A Tad Samey.......2003-09-18
"Sun Godess" and "Hot Doggit" more or less sell this album-
both feature Earth,Wind & Fire. But I would reccomend the same
years "Don't It Feel Good" over this (if you can find it) because
this album doesn't hold up as whole quite as well. But nothing on
here is terrible and the title track alone is at LEAST two out
of the stars here!Completly jazz-funky but a bit predictable too.
Classic!!!.......2003-08-13
What more can be said about this recording. I wish I was present in the recording process.
Sun Goddess..........2002-12-02
to this day is one of the BEST instrumentals on the planet with its gorgeous melody & sleek groove. Ramsey Lewis, a master keyboardist and jazz legend in his own right combines forces with the "elements" to make this musical gem. Not only does EWF lend an unforgettable vocal melody, with Maurice and Phillip on percussion, Verdine and Johnny Graham on guitar, Don Myrick on sax and Charles Stepney on fender rhodes, "Sun Goddess" is the epitome of a classic jazz masterpiece. The drumming on this track is amazing as all other solos (check out Myrick's sax and Verdine's bass...too funky!) "Sun Goddess" is 8 1/2 minutes of bliss.
The seventies vibe continues flowing with "Living for the City". The S.Wonder interpretation is laced heavily with rhodes and a punchy string arrangement by Richard Evans. "Love Song" features Cleveland Eaton on upright and fender bass while Ramsey puts in serious work on all 4 kinds of keys as well as guitar. The horns and strings on this track add just the right flavor. "Jungle Strut" is a fun track that showcases the playful verbal antics of Derf Rehlew Raheem, adding African ryhthmic sound effects and dialect. "How Dawgit", like the title track was produced by Maurice White and features the smooth vocals of Phillip Bailey. "Tambura" has a spacey feel to it with its sound effects and percussive arrangement. Kinda brings the image of Bootsy Collins en route to the moon to mind. "Gemini Rising" is another great track on which Maurice Jennings drumming and C.Eaton's bass playing stand out, especially on the solos within the song. Ramseys keys ride the track smoothly.
Overall Sun Goddess is a great CD for jazz lovers or anyone who wants to slip back down memory lane and relax in the mid 70's. Go ahead and put those platforms, bell bottoms, sunglasses and apple caps Right On!
CLB.
Fabulous jazz, fabulous funk.......2001-06-02
Ramsey Lewis, whose work as a "conventional" jazz pianist had been unremarkable, found in jazz-funk a medium through which he was able to create a work of singular genius, albeit with the aid of the well-seasoned White brothers, Maurice and Verdine, of Earth, Wind and Fire. Sun Goddess stands not only as a prime candidate for the best jazz-funk album ever, but as an example of the realms jazz musicians could have explored in the 70s had they taken the possibilities of jazz-funk more seriously.
Ramsey Lewis took jazz-funk to another realm. To single out a track for discussion would threaten to fragment the continuous experience of the album. But perhaps unavoidably one must mention the extreme oddity of "Tambura", which stands alone as an almost ridiculous exercise in grandiloquence, and yet emerges as an engrossing, perfectly constructed electric sound event. There is something in the funk that resides in nothing else, and this album captures it.

A classic addition to the new age movement........2007-01-16
I first heard this album in High School(boarding school), when one of my roommates played this CD at bedtime. He had eclectic tastes to say the least and is responsible for me getting into Nine Inch Nails and other...more interesting bands. So it's odd that he'd have music like this in his collection. Anyway, I've always been one to listen to a wide variety of music myself, and we swapped many CDs during the years I was away. To this day Goddess stands out as one of my favorite relaxation CDs. I put this CD on when I am giving and receiving massages, studying, chilling with friends, going to sleep. It's surprisingly versatile. The tracks themselves are all very different, but blend well together. I think that Goddess is best enjoyed in one listen rather than picking out individual tracks to listen to.
I recommend this to anyone with eclectic music tastes who appreciates new age, piano, meditation music. This will likely become a regular fixture in your collection.
Trancendence. Beauty. Magick.......2006-07-27
'Goddess' by Troika has to be one of the best New Age cds I've ever heard. Each song is relaxing, gentle, and simply beautiful. They take you on a journey to explore the power and mystery of each goddess. An excellent cd for meditation, ritual, or just relaxation, it is a must have for anyone interested in New Age spirituality, Paganism, and Witchcraft. Simply magickal.
Nice compilation.......2003-12-15
This was my first Troika cd so other than listening to snips on Amazon I didn't know what to expect - just knew that the snips sounded great. As it turns out the whole cd is great. It reminds me a lot of Kitaro in terms of both sound and rhythms. There are no vocals - its all instrumental. The songs are very well done, each is different, interpreted I think to the goddess after which it was named - one may have more piano type sounds, another some chimes, another harp, another drumming. Personnaly, I wouldn't be able to listen to one and say - oh that one definitely embodies Athena, or this one definitely says Kuan Yin - but the idea is great and the songs are all really well done.
How do you mimic a Goddess' soul?.......2003-06-10
Yo listen to this Album. A beautifl tibute to the mothers of the earth. To those that inspire poetry and prose, you have yet another masterpiece of musice dedicated twords your esence. May all who listen hear the heart of each goddess beat and feel her soul stir with in you breast. Blessed be all ye who know and feel the Goddess in all her forms. A must have for those who wish to feel the Goddess or be a goddess.
"Takes you to other places...".......2002-11-29
Goddess is new age music at it's best. I used it as background music to give a massage to one of my clients, a spunky 65 year old lady. She absolutely loved it and commented that the music "takes you to other places"... a realm of enchanted feminine magic most certainly. It was perfect for massage: never overbearing or too fast and yet never boring.

Bootleg-savvy Stones fans understand why Mick Jagger's solo albums tend to be curiously pop-precious and testosterone-challenged; if Keith Richards had his druthers, we'd likely have Exile on Main Street Vol. XI by now. Indeed, given Jagger's decades-old rep as the most virile dinosaur of the herd, it can be jarring to have the Vulnerable Mick ponder "Wonder if you catch my mood / Can you feel my solitude?" as the strings well on this album's "Don't Call Me Up." But then, being a caricature so large (and ludicrous) can drive an artist to do desperate things, like sewing his heart firmly to his sleeve in a quest for Truth. Infused with a welcome sense of renewed musical adventure on tracks like the jangly, alterna-nervous Lenny Kravitz collaboration, "God Gave Me Everything," the East-West fusion of the title track, and the modern techno-murk of "Gun" (both cowritten with coproducer Matt Clifford), the icon seems finally to have found a solo persona that fits: Spiritually Awakened World-Weary Rebel. There's even a devoutly uplifting, Pete Townshend-backed duet with Bono ("Joy") that among other things, makes the U2 singer's reservations at Jurassic Park all but official. Still, it's hard to teach an old cur new licks; the best here is undercut by genuflections to chart-conscious predictability (the Rob Thomas collaboration "Visions of Paradise") and hoary-ironic arena-ready sentiments like "Everybody Getting High" (with guest guitar deity/substance abuse expert Joe Perry) that Keith Richards must understand all to well. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
If you love Mick..........2006-06-06
Everyone in the Stones is special, but if you love Mick Jagger this is the album for you. I think there is space for Rolling Stones albums and the members' solo albums. I like the variety that the group and the solo albums provide the fans with. The highlights for me on this album were Visions of Paradise, Hideaway and Don't Call Me Up. I bought a copy when it came out and when I moved I had to leave my CDs behind but this is one of the albums I most miss.
Who's Noticing Her...I Love Mick.......2006-05-26
With Pete Townsend and Lenny Kravitz guesting, how could you go wrong. This album could very well be a Stones album, that's how good the songs and music are. And, Mick did say in an interview I heard that he wrote a few of these songs for the Stones, but they decided not to use them, so he did. I think it's Mick's best work to date. Hope he does some more soon. Even if you're not a fan of his solo stuff, I think you'll really like this one.
Great.......2006-04-01
This album was given to me as a gift because I'm a big Stones fan. I never heard of it or of Mick Jagger doing solo work so I was a bit apprehensive before playing it. Well, it is all I've been playing in my car. I love it. My favorite is "Hideaway"...probably because I know someone who is always talking about doing just what Mick sings about in that song. I play that track over and over. But they are all good.
I LOVE IT!!!!! AWESOME.......2006-02-22
THIS IS TRULY A GREAT ALBUM.ITS NOT THE STONES...ITS MICK FROM
THE HEART.I LOVE JUST ABOUT EVERY TUNE ON IT.THE BEST IS HIDE AWAY IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE DRIVING TO THE AIRPORT EVERY TIME I HERE IT! VISIONS OF PARADISE ALSO AWESOME..
I JUST LOVE IT!!!!
DISAGREE .......2005-08-25
This album is actually very catchy. Is it a five start album like Rolling Stone magazine gave it? Absolutely not, but it is still a very solid album. I don't want it to sound like the Stones because it is not the Stones. I also like all the guest artists that appear on this album.

The classical heritage .......2006-04-16
The visible embellishment of this noble instrument was enriched still more by the Spanish composers, who following the traces of his contemporaries. In the case of Fernando Sor, Haydn was his musical guide, where as Aguado, could establish himself with major vehemence, due its particular style, based in the notable right-hand articulation, eschewed the classical patterns, being able to print his own music a flamboyant and refined character.
In the particular case of Fernando Sor, we have a wisdom blending of the counterpoint technique, an evocative mood from his own that, added the well known influence of the Italian composers (Domenico Cimarrosa and Giovanni Batista Pergolesi) and his beloved love for the Operatic genre, allowed him to enrich still more the lyrical possibilities of the guitar. Besides, unlike Nicolo Paganini, for instance fortunately did not transform the guitar in a simple device to show his overwhelming gifts. He used the guitar to play music, on the opposite approach of Paganini who used the music as mere device to play his instrument.
In the guitar genre there has not been most deserved and superb tribute to Mozart that this Variations Op. 9 based on a motive of The most famous Mozart ?s Magic Flute. Loaded of such imaginative freshness and enraptured inspiration you may notice that one of the Variations conserves an undeniable Italian flavor; this is one of the most beloved hidden treasures the guitar can offers us, which raise with special charm in the hands of this formidable soloist.
Aguado on the contrary acquired due his personal state of things, a notable adroitness who excelled by far, to Sor, so his musical approaches rode in opposite directions, trying to exploit at maximum levels the technical possibilities of the instrument.
Julian Bream makes a colossal tribute to both composers in this egregious and golden album.

Impressive, Inspirational and Delightful.......2002-03-03
As a bellydancer for the last 12 years, I was very impressed, inspired and delighted with this CD. Some of the tracks such as Emerald Treasure and Jupiter Suite are amazing Egyptian orchestral songs filled with tempo and rhythmic changes, dramatic accents and lovely melodies that are fantastic for performing bellydance. Others, like Java Breeze and Pele have a tropical flavor that is fun and delightful. Kama Sutra and Tabu are very exotic and inspirational and Goddess Salutation and Devotion are very relaxing and calming. With so much variety, this CD is a must for bellydancers or anyone that enjoys world music.

Slow, sensual rhythms.......2005-06-18
The person who said these cannot be danced to obviously has never heard of TAXIM, as bellydancers define it: slow, sinuous music suitable for slow, sinuous movements like undulations. The songs on this CD are almost all very slow and would suit taxim and perhaps veil dances, which can be done by both novices and experienced bellydancers. It's also good mood music in my opinion and though it is very New Age-y, it does have a very Middle Eastern feel. If you think it doesn't sound like "traditional" music, you ought to listen to some Turkish pop!
I liked this cd but found it oddly the same as another.......2003-05-25
I really like this cd but was a little disappointed when I listened to it the first time and found that at least one of the tracks was the exact same music with diffrent instruments as another cd I own by another musician. I was really hoping to add more variety to the belly dance music I aquired.
It's still a great cd with nice rythems that make me want to get up and dance.
Great for practice or dance class.......2002-09-25
This CD is probably not for use in show performance or restaurant work, however it works very well for home practice or for the classroom. Very well recorded, with beautiful oud and flute work and drumming that'll really get the hips moving.
Good For Those With Two Left Feet.......2002-09-18
The songs on Dolphina's albums are too plain and boring to use for a show, but it might be good for those who are just developing some rhythm in their dancing at home. The music does not have a very authentic feel at all. Intermediate and advanced students/performers may find that this music feels quite silly dancing to it.
Wonderful CD.......2002-09-10
This cd was really worth each penny. It contains a variation of rythmical bellydance music. It is great to dance to and some of the songs are a real pleasure to listen to. I would really recommend this cd.

still great-second time around!.......2005-10-02
Laura Powers has done it again.I loved her first album so much, that I bought her second one unheard. No mistake-it's as great as the first one!If you love music with a celtic twist, you will love this....
Goddess Bless Laura Powers!!.......2003-11-09
Laura Powers does it again, with her 2nd CD that proves to be as heart warming and mystical as the prior! Laura's voice allows you to connect with that part of your soul that opens up to the flowing and meaningful music that she creates. Dynamic and Soothing all in one! I can't say enough about Laura and her music, it will take you to a new level!!
Smooth........2003-10-08
A nice blend of moods and quite mellow as well.
Beautiful and moving.......2002-10-13
I may have a new favorite artist. The harmonies and light instrumentation blend to give the listener an aural caress that lasts for the whole album. I prefer music where the singer blends into the music and becomes one of the instruments instead of insisting on being the focus of the spotlight.
Beyond the Pale continues the magic.......2002-01-03
Laura Powers does it again. Legends of the Goddess II Beyond the Pale, has all the magic and beauty but is unique. Beyond the Pale has everything you could wish for. Her songwriting is poetry and if you liked the Mists of Avalon or Braveheart you will love this cd. I especially loved the Songs A Heart in Winter and Long Way Down. I cannot say enough to express how much I love her music, you simply must see for yourselves.

From songs like the mythical "Morrighan's Quest" to "My Avalon" her music captures the heart and soothes the spirit.

sing whith your heart.......2006-05-24
the music is beautiful she has a beautiful voice the instermental part of it is beautiful the only thing that does not compare to enye and lorena is that I think she does not sing with her heart if she were to put her heart into her singing it would compare equally
Legends of the Goddess.......2006-03-03
Absolutely beautiful music. Lilting at times vibrant at others. I am a huge Loreena McKinnett fan and have been searching for someone with similar talent and the same ability to stir the soul with music. I have found that talent and ability in Laura Powers. I would highly recommend this CD and am anxious to try more of her music.
