Dandelions

About the Artist
Born in Portland and raised in Eugene, Oregon, Eric began playing violin at age five, and at age fifteen was singing, playing guitar, and writing songs. He moved to Boston at nineteen to attend the Berklee College of Music, the prestigious jazz and pop school. Eventually settling in Seattle, Eric fronted the pop/punk outfit Skeptic Tank, playing in top clubs at the height of the grunge era. Later he fronted the progressive/alternative band Bake, releasing two full length CDs, both met with excellent reviews, radio airplay, and continuing club dates. Now Eric is setting forth with his most sophisticated solo material. He has assembled a crack band featuring former Skeptic Tank cohort Andy Cummings on guitar, pro bassist Brian Lake, and the fabulous Gabriel Cuevas on drums. The five song dandelions EP was released by Saucer Music in the year 2000.

Band Members: Gabriel Cuevas - drums
Andy Cummings - guitar
Brian Lake - bass
Eric Weber - voice, guitar, piano, percussion

Album Description
Singer/songwriter Eric Weber combines elements of jazz, soul, and blues into a unique contemporary pop blend. His songs are sultry, heartfelt tales of romantic lamentation, forgiveness, and redemption. Erics honest, direct voice and introspective yet moving words are the trademark of his craft. But the real depth is in the music rich harmonic structure behind catchy, complex melodies - creating tunes that will stand the test of time. Eric Weber should appeal to fans of pop, triple A, Americana, and just plain good songwriting.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful.......2006-06-24

I am sure this would have been classified as experimental or punk when it was released in 1989. This album sounds like what many young indie bands are currently striving to achieve... artsy, intelligent, catchy.
The electric violin alone is enough to make the Dandelions stand out. It has a much different sound than you will hear in classical or bluegrass recordings. It could be described as haunting at times.
Some might say that the songs begin to sound redundant (mostly due to the punk-style drumming and constant use of the violin), but the group manages to change things up just in time and held my attention well.

5 out of 5 stars Eric writes, plays, and sings like he means it.......2000-11-02

Eric Weber's Dandelions is a wonderful release! - Five carefully recorded songs about relationships that are played with skill and sung with vim. It's a treat to listen to someone who both sings and plays guitar so well, but high quality songwriting is where Eric truly stands head and shoulders above the herd. This man is a great songwriter! He brings full-on melodic clarity to his tunes, and his words and music dovetail perfectly. The melodies on this album play themselves in your head and will populate your dreams. And Eric's lyrics are obviously personally meaningful and heartfelt - this allowed me to relate his songs to my own life.

Listening to Dandelions all the way through is intense.

Rich acoustic guitar leads off, steering the listener into the wistfully soulful territory of the title track. The moody meat of the album follows: Darkened heart is a haunting expose of what can happen when emotions are not allowed release, Never changing blues is a gritty masterpiece about hanging on to love through rough times, and How could you. . . is an honest plea for forgiveness. Finally, Probably perfect is a charming serenade that leaves you upbeat.

    Thanks, Eric.

    Record more soon.

Martinu counts as one of the most important composers of the first half of the century. He was a bit of a globetrotter but every now and then he would go back to his roots, to his childhood in West Moravian Highlands. This ballet is no exception. It was in fact written for children - it is a string of popular East-European fairy tales. It overflows with motives from traditional Bohemian and Moravian folk music which makes it all very poetic and pleasant to listen to. Modern clasical music is usually considered very difficult to listen to but with this particular piece of Martinu, you may be inclined to change your view - this piece is perhaps a little bit like Orff's Carmina Burana but not as dark and demonic as Orff.

If you love piano music you will really enjoy the music of Kerri Sherwood.

1 out of 5 stars Moose In Heat.......2003-12-20

A first grader could write Lyrics better than this! Kerri Sherwood sounds like a hoofed mammal in heat. There are a few exceptions, like, "As Sure As The Sun" where she does sound like a squealing pig. Check out Jim Brickman and Nora Jones for a soothing and tasteful music, both have elegant and creative lyrics and soulful tunes.

5 out of 5 stars A Set of Late Masterpieces.......2004-04-26

Written towards the of Martinu's life, these choral pieces are a simultaneous celebration of Czech rural life and an expression of the composer's acute sense of exile. Martinu's exile began in the late 30s with the German occupation of Czechoslovakia and continued through to the end of his life because of the Communist dominance of his homeland. The text of these pieces was written by Martinu's boyhood friend, the poet Miloslav Bures. These four pieces are arranged in a seasonal round, beginning with spring (The Opening of the Wells) and ending in winter (Mikes of the Mountains). The last piece, completed just months prior to Martinu's death, contains a clear presentiment of death and a profound sense of loss at never again seeing his homeland. Martinu communicates what must have been for him profound emotion in an almost understated way with lyrical and powerful music. The performances on this CD are very good.
