About the Artist
Tautologic is a Chicago based composition, performance, and recording project headed by Ethan Sellers and Pat Buzby. Formed in late 1997, Tautologic has gone through numerous incarnations, including one which featured a string trio, and has played at various high-profile venues in Chicago. The band has begun extending its range to regional tours of clubs, festivals, and colleges.

Performers
Ken Arai (cello), Henry Bigelow (violin), Pat Buzby (drums, keyboards) Vince Canter (electric and acoustic guitars), Kristen Davis (viola) Mick Hirsch (acoustic guitar), Jennifer Justice (viola, vocals), Becky Rule (violin), Ethan Sellers(vocals, keys, guitar), Daniel Veidlinger (bass, guitar)

Album Description
Like Tautologic's dynamic, imaginative, heartfelt, and occasionally humorous live shows, West is North, East is South offers up a challenging yet accessible mix of styles ranging from rock to classical to jazz to world music - all tied together by our signature wit, canny melodicism, rhythmic invention, and arrangemental finesse.

For those of you living outside Chicago or otherwise unfamiliar with roads in Chicago, West is North, East is South is a reference to Interstates 90 and 94, which run through Chicago. Like most of the songs on the album, it hints at some of the topsy-turvy nature of the town Tautologic calls home.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars a band with many directions.......2000-06-23

"West Is North, East Is South" is from an up and coming band from Chicago, Tautologic. The band is headed by Ethan Sellers, singer and main composer, and Pat Buzby, drummer. If you like complex instrumentation (without boring "jams"), introspective lyrics, and just plain "good music", this CD is for you! Think Ben Folds Five crossed with Dave Matthews, a little Celtic sound, The Beatles and a teaspoonful of King Crimson, and you have the Tautologic Sound...Headphones are highly recommended! Hear "Tube Socks" or "Hype Dark" in the samples at AMAZON.COM to get an idea of the progressive sound of Tautologic.

4 out of 5 stars Tautologic--band from Chicago on the rise.......2000-06-20

This band from Chicago has set its sights on complex instrumentation (but no boring "jams"), great melodies, and introspective lyrics--with a sense of humor too. Fans of Ben Folds Five or Dave Matthews Band will enjoy this disc, as well as King Crimson or Alan Parsons fans. If you like celtic sounds, psychedelic-era Beatles, and just good tunes, you'll love this album! Listen to "Jim's Home Brew" and "Hype Dark" to get a taste of this versatile band.
