About the Artist
LOST AND FOUND is Michael Bridges and George Baum. Michael plays the acoustic guitar and George plays the piano. They have been writing, performing and recording songs together for nearly fifteen years. In January 1999, the LOST AND FOUND song, LIONS, was chosen as a grand-prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Twelve winners were chosen from 21,000 entries from around the world.

LOST AND FOUND made their first national concert tour on bicycles. Originally from New York, they rode their bicycles (with no accompanying support vehicle) from New York to St. Louis, to Miami, to San Diego, to Seattle, and back to New York. The trip took them 340 days, covered around 8,000 miles and provided them the opportunity to play 270 concerts.

Though they mostly fly places these days, LOST AND FOUND concerts still have the spirit of two guys riding their bikes around the country, meeting people, forming friendships, and selling original recordings of their songs from out of their backpacks. Through it all, the one message they wish to share is that God has loved each of us with an everlasting love whose name is Jesus.

Album Description
This is a collection of traditional hymns, performed and recorded by LOST AND FOUND. Though the songs are traditional and well known, the style is traditional only to those who have seen and heard LOST AND FOUND for years. We play the songs in our usual acoustic thrash style, and sing them with the urgency we think they deserve.

The whole idea for this CD grew out of our desire that more people, especially those worshipping in congregations using contemporary "worship songs," or, "choruses," would have the chance to consider the rich hymnody of the Church. It seems to us that many people have dismissed the hymns because they only think of hymns as agonizingly slow, requiring immense musical and vocal skill, and always including a pipe organ. We think the content of the songs as well as the tunes are worth recovering and conserving. In fact, the content, we think, is so significant in some of these hymns, that they are worthy of further discussion along the lines of poetry. While we understand the need and desire for simpler songs with words that are easily understood on the very first read, we also think there is room for these more meaty theological songs in the worship life of the Church. We grew up singing these songs—and 560 others in this vein—and we’d like our listeners to sing and appreciate them as well.

The CD includes text files of discussion guides for your group. These are easily used with any age group, and they are designed to be easily adapted for length and time.

5 out of 5 stars My second favorite Lost and Found cd.......2005-12-25

Behind only Speedwood 2 (though I like their old, old cassete tapes like Hengh, Our Third Album, and We All Are best, but good luck finding them anywhere).
I love hymns, and Michael and George picked some great ones to do on this cd. Their cover hymns on previous cds (Crown Him, God of Grace, Church) were already songs I loved to hear, so a whole cd of songs like that is great. I love songs with content, and hymns are just packed full of it. Unfortunately, hymns also tend to be a bit slow, but Michael and George remedy that and turn them into loud and fast songs, which sound great coming from them.

5 out of 5 stars Lost And Found's best CD.......2004-10-23

There are no original songs by Lost And Found on SPEEDWOOD HYMNS, however, it has got to be the best CD by Lost And Found to date.

You will not find rich deep voices, pipe organs, and flutes on this CD.

Rather, you'll find two guys who want to say, "Look at what these songs say! This is the great news proclaimed in music! You should really listen and make a joyful noise unto the Lord!"

They sing hymns in a way they deserve - with urgency and joy, almost shouting the good news to the masses.

Yet, for one who can appreciate the words of the hymns and not worry about the perfections of instruments and voices, this CD is a wonderful addition to your collection.
