5 out of 5 stars sunrise and astronaut in general.......2005-12-05

many people review astronaught and make comments about the time the boys were away from one another, how bad the music was when they were apart, etc. that may be so, but as a true fan of the fab five, i have purchased AND LOVED each and every track of each and every album/cd/dvd/etc., they have ever put out. the only one i truly had trouble with was the album LIBERTY however, its not that hard on the ears. simon - the voice - was never lost in all these years of the bands turmoil - he stood for DURAN DURAN while the others were finding their way back. i never lost the faith that they would. and in sunrise and other tracks on astronaut it is very apparent that the other 3 have definitely come home. you hear rogers unique sounds, andys missed guitar, johns lamenting bass, as well as nicks keyboarding/synths. but it all gels together - no matter who is behind him - as long as simon is there. this has to be THE number 1 cd - astronaut does not have 1 bad song on it. i was in a hospital room awaiting a heart for a heart transplant when i was up that morning i first heard sunrise on good morning america. i kid you not, the nurses came running in and tried their best to keep me from being too excited. but it could not be done. THE BOYS ARE DEFINITELY BACK AND WERE MUCH MISSED.
5 months after my heart transplant, i was in the corestates spectrum in philadelphia pa absolutely enjoying my boys back on stage where they belong. if you dont get this cd, you will have missed the meaning of the last 25 years of duran duran and all they mean to us duranies.

3 out of 5 stars Sunrise--very good! Know it all---FLAT! .......2005-03-02

I just bought the single for the Know It All song that is not on their Astronaut album. While Reach Up for the Sunrise is very good and sounds like it was recorded in an arena in front of thousands of fans, I didn't like Know it All. Know is just eerie sounding and more of an instrumental song, with one member singing over a vocoder. Sometimes, you hardly know what they are singing in the song. I can see why they left it off of the Astronaut album, where the 12 songs on there are very superior. So while you're dancing to Sunrise, skip the CD button on Know it all. It sounds flat.

5 out of 5 stars Back Together and with an Out Of This World Album.......2004-11-15

Five British pop stars hailing from Birmingham, England and starting out at a local pub called the Rum Runner Club and playing catchy tunes like 'Planet Earth', 'Careless Memories', and 'Girls On Film'. You know who I am talking about. Duran Duran.
They were the pin-up boys in the 1980's and now they are dads. They have a new album out called 'Astronaut'. Very much a danceable album and has great rhythmic tunes such as 'Sunrise', 'Astronaut', 'Bedroom Toys', and 'What Happens Tomorrow'. They are just a few to mention as well as other great songs off the new album. 'Astronaut' has launched Duran Duran into high gear ever since they have reunited back in the year 2000.
After reuniting together again in 19 years, their world has become astronomical. They have received 'Lifetime Acheivement Award'.Duran Duran has been playing sold out shows, appearing on national TV at the Super Bowl in 2003. And now they have a new album. Congratulations.
Their success has been long overdue and with 'Astronaut', it's not far behind. Lead singer Simon LeBon and keyboardist Nick Rhodes, has teamed up with the Taylor boys. They are drummer Roger Taylor, bass and <a href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=11&k=acoustic%20guitar" onmouseover="window.status='acoustic guitar'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">acoustic guitar
John Taylor and guitarist Andy Taylor. None of the Taylors are related. Bu needless to say, Duran Duran is where they should be in life. They have this great connection with each other. And the last time they ever had a number 1 hit, was back in 1985 with 'A View to a Kill'. Which is also the last song Duran Duran ever did before they split.
Soon after that there was no more number 1 hits and no more Andy Taylor and Roger Taylor. Then in the next few years, John Taylor decided to do a solo career. Which by then, John has left Duran Duran as well. But one thing was realy clear to Simon and Nick, they wanted to have a number 1 hit again and to have the Taylor boys back.
So now they are back together again in full swing with their new appearances as being dads and putting out a great album. And they could not be any happier in life as of right now. Duran Duran sure has come a long way. But to put everything into perspective, they are still making music, making history and still making very woman in the world crazy over them all over again.

5 out of 5 stars Duran Duran is back and better than ever!.......2004-10-13

AS a longtime Duran Duran fan, I have to admit that over the past 10 years or so I really lost interest in their music. Albums like Pop Trash and Medazzland never really appealed to me, and judging from the sales and reviews from critics, most everyone else in the world felt the same way. The lineup was a shadow of it's former self and it was truly reflected in their music.

Now that the whole band is back together, they have found their groove once again. "(Reach up for the)Sunrise" the first singel of their "Astronaut" LP is an uplifting, upbeat song that shows that these guys never lost it...it just took all of them getting back together to realize it. With Roger Taylor's "Girls on Flim" sounding drum line and Simon's suprisingly straightforward lyrics (remember, this is the guy who had lyrics like "Shake up the picture, the lizard mixture"), this song is sure to be a hit if the radio stations programmers get off their butts and relize that this is not just a one-off song from a nostalgic band, but a great song from a band that has managed to weather the ups and downs of the music industry for over 25 years! Give it a chance...Duran Duran will not let you down!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome !!.......2004-10-08

No doubt that this single marked the Big Five come back. Yes, their back together again!! And its really really a great single ever!! It's like the old days coming back again.... back to the glorious era of Duran Duran. Its a must have single to all duranies all around the world!! Its a very Duran Duran's style which combined Nick's touch with all the Taylors' style along with the sexy voice of Simon!!

I know Duran Duran earned every sinlge dollar I put into the purchase of this CD! The single "Sunrise" is the best song to wake up to! Some of the words are identical to what I think! If I could REACH UP FOR THE SUNRISE, I would! As a Mom of three, it's exactly what I would want all of my children to feel! So, Thank you Duran Duran! A Definte 5 Star CD!

4 out of 5 stars reaching out to be burned.......2005-02-24

Among the singles that sprung from the latest album, this one - in its various incarnations - is a rockin' upbeat number that pleases at many levels. However, for 13 American bucks it would have been nice if they had combined versions 1 and 2 and sold them in one pack. Give us at least 10 mixes of the song if we're gonna drop over ten bucks.

4 out of 5 stars Reach Up for the sunrise and Radio allow this to be a hit.......2005-07-16

"Reach up..." is a good, bouncy tune that one can sing along to and should of become the anthem on commercial radio. But the song does not break any real new ground for the band though and the song seemed like it was missing an element, maybe an extra guitar or something. The Jason Nevins Radio edit stays true to the original version and gives it the extra meat the original lacked. The other remix found on this single is decent also, but I would stick to the Jason Nevins Radio Edit any day.

      5 out of 5 stars Back 4 More...........2004-12-31

As so many of the 80's are returning, it was only a matter of time before Duran Duran added on to the long list (eurythmics, simply red, depeche mode, culture club (and the Boy's own projects) talk talk, and even prior to that barry manilow with the 2005 mixes of "Copacabana" via Ralphi Rosario od stewart with the new remixes of "Do ya Think Im Sexy" thanks again to Ralphi Rosario AND Pete Rauhofer, to name a few. But the entire DD CD is great, this first remix is completly pleasing to the ear. It is well worth buying the CD single BUT it comes in SO MANY forms, but for great vocals go for the Peter Presta (apple jaxx)remix, and the hard to find FULL vocal Jason Nevins remix 7:06, and I recently got an unreleased the HOTTEST mix of all on 12" vinly from the crew at ALMIGHTY RECORDS. This version of Sunrise is SO HOT you really can't touch or possibly reach out for it(still unavailable ? future release) just under 8min, so if U are a fan of DD then get this come back single, Simon sounds as great as he did 20 some odd years ago, when the euro invasion took over. Now its the gay and Gay freindly remixers, that are twisting your every day CD versions, into MAJOR CLUB HITS, this has been going on for quite some time however, 20 years ago it was not the "thing to do being out of the closet". Speaking of comebacks, it would be so great if Barry Harris (aka 1/2 of Thunderpuss) would remix one of his OWN originals "I BEG YOUR PARDON/KON KAN" what a hot 2005 that would be but in 1988, it was just good to be "known" and today it's the "cool" thing (to be out or out friendly) So go 4 the DD maxi mixes, there is alot of potential for the fab 5 on this CD, I certianly enjoy it, Hope this is of help. Jason Prof. DJ

4 out of 5 stars Reach Up For The New Duran Duran!.......2004-11-24

This one is worth pulling down off the shelves. The waiting is over, "Sunrise" is here. Bright, optimistic, upbeat electro-pop from the guys who invented the genre'. Just stick it in your CD Player and let it flow out of your stereo speakers. Go with the groove and turn on the lights. Your favorite band is back and they're as good, or better, than they've ever been. It's okay to come out of the closet and admit you've always been a Duranie. The Sunrise is here, it's a brand new day. Celebrate.

The single version here is the strongest mix of this song yet. Of the remixes, the "Cosmic Mix" works best for me. The others, especially the "Tribal Mix", I can take or leave. And is it too much to ask for some of these modern remixes to actually SOUND like the original song? "Know It All" is a curious studio creation that sounds like Nick and Simon messing around with a voice snythesizer at 3:00 AM. Still, it's a fun track.

4 out of 5 stars It'll grow on you .......2004-10-25

I have been a Duran Duran fan since I was 15 years old. And now being 34 and having my musical tastes having had changed over the years it took me a couple of times of listening to the album to get into it. Sunrise is awesome and certianly a good way to get everyone reinterested in D2. Bedroom Toys is a the funkiest and most fun song on the album, with infectious rapping of Simon Le Bon. Another favorite on the album is What Happens tomorrow, poignant and timely response of the band to what happened in NYC on 9-11.
I am thrilled that my teenage favorite group is back and has also shown the public they too have grown & evolved as a band too. Do buy this album you won't be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome single -- breaks, acid trance, all good..........2004-10-19

I bought this single on a whim for the Ferry Corsten mix, and the single delivers across the board. I'm not particularly a Duran Duran fan, but found the single itself to be a fair and catchy single. However, the mixes are terrific!
The Adam G mix is a fun nu-school breaks mix with a bit of electro-style drums thrown in along with a funky mainline.
The Corsten mix is very much in his new (and excellent!) style a-la his Right Of Way album, which is more acid trance than "euphoric" or cheese trance.
      Highly recommended!
