Album Description

This is a 2 disc set. The uppers are the upbeat tracks that make you dance and sing, a treat that will pleasantly surprise Fisher fans. And the downers are, of course, the songs that make listeners feel, those "reactive" songs that Fisher have become known for.

"Uppers" also contains Fisher's "L-O-V-E made popular in Chrysler's PT Cruiser commercials.

Uppers and Downers is a self-contained gauntlet of emotion. This collection of songs moves from scratching the surface of perkiness and joy, to quirky frank commentaries, to the ache of the hungry soul. There wasn't a single track that I felt the need to skip past; each one was a delight. Kathy Fisher possesses the amazing ability to mold her voice to fit the mood. She seldom repeats the tone or the nuance of the song. The music will echo in your mind long after both discs end, begging you to hit play again.

Future Release.......2004-10-28

This is actually a review of a song that I know only a brief piece of, that is, "Beautiful Life" the song in a Toyota T.V. commerical - the one where a tire rolls through all the scenes. The lyrics are "It's a beautiful day, it's a beautiful world, it's a beautiful time to be here." I searched the internet to find what this song was and the enthusiasm is HUGE. I hope this song in it's entirety ends up on a future album - please Kathy Fisher. What a great voice and I LOVE this song.

Brilliant Work.......2003-12-23

This is one of those CDs you listen to and realize why you love music so much! The emotion roller coaster you evoke upon is brilliant! The music of Uppers is an exciting and interesting. Not my favorite disc but still worthy. "Dream On" is the best song on that CD Followed close by the sexy and seductive "Mrs.Ophelia"!! Downers is amazingly beautiful and painful. By far the best CD Ive ever purchased!! "Ordinary Moment" is a nice song, gets alil sappy towards the end but still good. "Missing" Theres nothing to say that will do this song justice, I cryed the first time I heard its soo painful and honest. The best song on the CD. Other amazing tracks include "Something To Believe In" Happy playful but still honest. "Too Late" My second favorite. Again you feel the heart breaking pain she feels. Her voice and musical arrangement is amazing! I wish this CD was more popular than it is..or does it make it that much more personal? Hmm you decide...

Amazing Album!.......2003-03-05

I have been a Fisher fan for almost 2 years now and didn't think that UPPERS & DOWNERS could compare to TRUE NORTH but I WAS WRONG!
The first CD, UPPERS, is incredible! With tracks like NOTHING IS REAL, DIRTY GIRL and a great cover of Aerosmith's DREAM ON, you can put this cd is and just let it repeat! and repeat! and repeat!
The second CD, DOWNERS is a wonderful mix of smooth songs that are perfect for a night in front of the fire with that special someone!
Kathy Fisher has an AMAZING voice! The best way that I can describe it is VELVET! It is smooth and sultry and can make you melt!
Fisher has come through again!...

Great album!.......2002-11-10

Another excellent collection from Fisher! Just one thing I'd change if it were up to me: Instead of having all uppers on one CD and all downers on another, I'd mix them up on the two discs. Listening to the Downers CD can be--well, too much of a downer--without some lighter tracks to keep it interesting. It's nothing a CD burner won't cure, though.

At first glance, the Yo-Yo's seem to be a modern-day reincarnation of Ramones-era punk rock. They've got the bad-boy look, the four-chord anthems, and the attitude. A few spins of Uppers and Downers eventually rubs some of this aura away and reveals another possible, if less likely, musical touchstone: Kiss. Its nods to current technology aside, the track "Cellphone Psychophobia" could easily be mistaken for a Paul Stanley-penned rocker circa Dressed to Kill. "Out of My Mind" also recalls Kiss, although in this case Ace Frehley--it's not "Shock Me," but the swagger and melody are undeniably in the same arena. In fact, half the songs recall an era when pyrotechnics pounded punk silly, while the other tracks beg to differ. In the world of the Yo-Yo's, it would seem that arena rock and punk can finally be seen kissing in public.--Jason Josephes

These hard rockin' Brits were too early to benefit from the garage rock hype of 2002, but even if their timing had been better I'm not sure the forecast for their destiny would have improved. They aim for a sound that is halfway between the Ramones and Creedence Clearwater Revival - and they succeed in the same way Joan Jett succeeded in mixing the Sex Pistols with Gary Glitter. That is, with the best parts of both antecedents crushed down into a decorative powder. So while I kinda like "Uppers and Downers", I can't get behind it with much enthusiasm.

This CD is SO Rock-n-Roll it hurts! I have been listening to it for the past 6 months straight. An absolute must-have desert island disc. The Yo Yo's are relentless hookmeisters who will have you singing along with them just seconds into the chorus. This release is a timeless classic; it could be from the Gene Vincent era OR the late 70's NYC punk scene. Reminds me of my favorite bands like Johnny Thunder's Heartbreakers, The Clash, Cheap Trick, The Ramones, Sex Pistols and Eddie Cochran. Not to mention classic stuff from AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Kiss, and Aerosmith. With a little Motorhead thrown in for good measure. DO NOT live your life without this music. I am BEYOND sorry that Danny McCormack and The Yo Yo's have already split up. I hope and pray that it's just a temporary thing because never hearing more music from this band would simply be criminal. Buy it now while you still can; buy 2. If The Yo Yo's ever get back together and play live anywhere near you...GO and experience authentic rock-n-roll nirvana! "I don't need you, I got my big shoes and tattoos!"

At Last.......2000-08-27

I saw the Yo-yos first about 18 months ago and have seen them once more since. I went on the basis of the Wildhearts link and was well impressed by what I saw. This album has been long awaited by many rock, punk and pop fans and doesn't disapoint. Simpler than the wildhearts but just as catchy the album has pop rock roots and is the most rock'N'roll album to come out of Britain for years. Classic Matches their brilliant live performence well with almost every song being a sing-a-long belter. The 2 singles aren't even the best songs. I now eagerly await the next album

Ear candy with an attitude!.......2000-08-22

Warning: This music will stick in your head! The Yo-Yo's combine great pop hooks and harmonies with driving guitars and drums. They have the pop sensibility of bands like 'The Smithereens' and 'Cheap Trick', plus they throw in some 'Ramones' influence to liven it up a bit.

Several of the cuts are worthy of Top-40 status. "Time of your life" and "Head over heals" each have the requirements to be played by Casey Casum himself.

Some have labeled them 'punk', but this disk has a lot to offer pop and rock fans as well. It may be a bit formulated, but it's a great formula!

Punk + Rock + PowerPop = Yo-Yo's.......2000-08-19

I bought this CD because I thought it was supposed to be punk. It's punk and then some. There's definitely a heavy rock flavor and some great "poppy" elements. I was listening to the disc and my wife asked if it was Cheap Trick. I took this as a compliment. I can also hear some echos of an 80's rock band called The Unforgiven. Basically, this disc rocks. Crank it loud in your car and sing along!
