5 out of 5 stars Never has new wave seemed so...ummm...well....COOL!.......2003-02-23

THE quintessential modern new wave album. This stuff is enterprising in every way. Aside from AOJ's trademark loopy synths & pseudo-robotic vocalising, the most stylish identifying factor of this band is its unique song structuring & chordplay.

Hop Litzwire & Company are masters at creating addictive hooks that decorate music that would seem to be almost impossible to hum along to. Often falling in & out of scale within the same song, the music is VERY unconventional. There is little predictability in the structure & underlying riffage goin on in each song. Then you add Hop's immaculate & tasteful vocal melodies & it all comes into focus. He has proven that a solid hook is worth its weight in gold. If this were an instrumental album, I might've had a hard time really understanding the logic of the chord progressions & songwriting. However, his pitch perfect vocal melodies bring these songs to the fore & the payoff is ultimately rewarding & memorable.

...Just consider AOJ the 2nd chapter in a band who'll hopefully leave behind a novel's worth of chapters for years to come. Rock forth, AOJ!!!

Oh, and with regard to the prior reviewer here...there is one band who is quite similar to AOJ & oddly enough from the same area of TX. Check out Chomsky, who now have a new disc out entitled "Onward Quirky Soldiers". Good stuff there too & you can't help but hear the similarities. :)

5 out of 5 stars The Best Band of all time!!!.......2002-12-07

I would have to say after deep thought that Adventures of Jet is my all-time favorite band. They're the most unique band that you will ever find!! I have not found another band that even sounds remotely like them at all. If anybody knows of one, please tell me!! First of all, this is a great album. I mean it when I say there is absolutely nothing wrong with this album. Most albums you buy have some songs that you don't like and that you skip.Adventures of Jet does not have ONE song that is bad.Every song on this album is awesome!! Hop Litzwire has a great voice, the guitars are awesome, and the lyrics are great. But the most important thing in the music is the one thing that makes music awesome-a SYNTHESIZER!!If you like awesome synth bands like The Rentals, Reggie and the Full Effect, and Ozma(essential synth albums), you MUST get Adventures of Jet!! Get this album, and you won't be disappointed!!

4 out of 5 stars Texas Rock Synth-Pop...eh?.......2002-04-01

Take a few kids with some spare time, give them some Weezer records, and a synthesizer and it would probably turn out similar to this. Every song is a gem and shouldn't really be missed, but then again, after doing such a thing, this cd shouldn't take up all your time just trying to find it. Even though bands like Ozma have taken this sound and turned it into something even Rivers Cuomo can enjoy, the Adventures of Jet are still gearing up to take that charge. Some songs are lesser than others, and some take the cake entirely. The lyrics are at times poor, but fitting, and the melodies and music leave you with a song in your head!

These are the cake stealers, should be tracked down and forced to share with the others...but then what would the fun be?

1 - The End of the Planet
    2 - Wasted Time
    3 - Don't Make It So Hard
    4 - Radio Noise
    10 - Tell Me When It's Over

After taking a careful approach in listening to these five songs, ask yourself what makes a catchy record, and then go back to listening, knowing the answer all along.

post elementary punk with something that HAPPENS lateron cheap, and rough.LIKE the heavenly beat that seduces electronic w\ electric in a sharper imagery.SUPPOSEDLY you cant retrieve those sounds better than you can see them!blisteringly better than the last time...

5 out of 5 stars ITS 1980 & I JUST PLUGGED IN MY KORG KEYBOARD!!.......2000-08-25

WHY THIS BAND ARENT WELL BIGGER THAN THEY ARE IS A MYSTERY, I CAME ACROSS THIS BY ACCIDENT BUT IT WAS AN ACCIDENT I ENJOYED!! anyway the cd is a melting pot of 70/80S new wave, early ELVIS COSTELLO & early SQUEEZE,the confusing thing is that this music is being lourded by some of the punk scene at the moment and bands such as THE STEREO, REGGIE & THE FULL EFFECT & THE GET UP KIDS are getting all the limelight ...buy this and lets see this band get the attention THEY DESERVE ...now wheres that adapter gone?
