Echoes of The Birthday party everywhere, but in a more raw manner, the guitar is also different, less free-form-psycho-billy in Rowland manner, instead more punk, with much more noise. About the voice? Raw, the rawest possible, coz this is a pure and original art form without any producers or mainstream filters. It's a tough listen but the reward is awesome. In my honest opinion, the bonus EP is even better than the album itself. Check out please. Have fun, i'm having

some of the other reviews almost scared me off, but boy am i glad i checked this out. great music and awful vocals that somehow hit home. ween fans should enjoy this.

Imagine, Mojo Nixons unfunny, mentaly challenged, red headed stepchild. You almost have Killdozeer. Now imagine that he dosen't sing as good as Mojo.
Now imagine a musically impared Tom Waits; but he quit smoking about six months before his voice really turned into anything besides a low growl.
That's Killdozer.
Kind of my fat, beer drinking uncle; without the talent!

5 out of 5 stars Get it for "River" (5 Stars for "River").......2000-07-01

While I am not that familiar with the album as a whole, I have a copy of "River". Even if I hated every other song...I would still shell-out $ for a copy of "River". The discorded violin gives the listener a brief window into raw emotions related to insanity. Years later, listening to it still gives me chills. This is one of those rare gems that manages to mix a non-classical violin style and hardcore without sounding like a freshman year art project. Inversely, this is not your typical rock-ballad-violin garbage either. The only debate is whether or not you can live with paying $ for a single song. I think it is worth every penny.

Killdozer was one of the best and most underated bands of the last 15 years. All their stuff is killer. I see one reviewer doesn't get it. Their loss: not for fans of overly-produced kiddie punk. If you've ever crossed state lines on a dark winter night just for a 40oz of Schlitz Red Bull, Killdozer is the band for you.

An good EP, this will be of interest more to people already fans of GVSB. It shows the early side with the current line up, and the last three songs are what remain of Fugazi's Brendan Canty's short-lived career with GVSB. I would recommend this to anyone already a fan of GVSB, especially if you like the albums prior to Freak*on*ica. However, this would definitely not be a good starting point if you do not own any GVSB albums.

Back in the early 1990's, the musical consortium known as Girls Against Boys existed as a co-operative of various artists in and around the Washington DC punk underground. 90's VS 80's showcases members of the Dischord spirit rockers Soulside (who make up the band as it exists today) as well members of other Dischord bands like Fugazi and Fire Party. 90's VS.80's demonstrates GVSB techno roots, the sound of GVSB before the velvet metal of the late 1990's. Six songs of trancendental drum and bass grooves, combined with post-apocalyptic guitar, Girls Against Boys will make you wish you insured your car against damage caused by armed insurrection and nuclear fallout. Also recommended is their sophomore effort, Tropic of Scorpio which cools the hot, sticky, city summer nights like an oily gin cocktail.
