    4 out of 5 stars Rich & rollicking.......2001-08-14

I am a 26 year old female from Minnesota. It wouldn't be at all likely that I would ever have heard of Cookie and the Cupcakes were it not for the fact that my mom is from southern Louisiana and she and my dad met and courted down there while they were listening to Cookie and other swamp pop greats. Let me just say that "Got You on My Mind" is probably the best Louisiana song there is. I love others, but as soon as I hear that rich, rollicking opening with the swaying beat and then that luscious piano playing... Ooh let me tell you I just ache to be in Louisiana, my home away from home, visiting with family, eating gumbo, and throwing back a cold one. The other great songs in this collection are "Mathilda" (naturally), "Belinda," "Sea of Love," and "Betty & Dupree." "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" and "I've Been So Lonely" are pretty good as well. Some of the other offerings are a bit thin and pale in comparison with the great ones, but the good ones make purchasing this collection well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT CD A MUST HAVE IN YOUR SOUTHERN COLLECTION.......1999-11-17

My Dad played sax for Cookie and the cupcakes,Known throughout Southern Louisiana as "HOT ROD REYNAUD" I was a little young to remember him in the band and traveling, but after listening to this CD, I was proud! The Quality and sound is all great, and to this day, just like Little Richard, no one in the group get any profits from any sell. Never the less, it is a must have for those of you who like the southern flavor with lot's of spices.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......1999-03-26

This is one of the great albums. If you love early 60's music, you will really love this album. It's a shame this album is out of stock and not avilable at this time. This is a great lost to the music world. Lee C.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Songs.......1998-10-16

Should be issued. Mathilda is one of their best. It is the national anthem of Louisiana.

3 out of 5 stars One Amazing Song.......2000-06-28

Track #3, "Future Girls Future Boys," is one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. If you don't buy this CD, find a way to own that song.

5 out of 5 stars "Cupcakes" is an excellent album, guaranteed to impress........2000-06-16

Well known throughout the Chicago area for their compelling and energetic live performances, the Cupcakes prove themselves to be equally talented studio musicians on this, their self-titled debut album. "Cupcakes" consists of a mixture of playful and thoughtful songs, from the witty cynicism of "Welcome to the Candy Store" to the futuristic anthem-like "Videots" to the optimistic cry of "No Regrets." The Cupcakes depict a view modern day society with a humorously ironic twist, as shown in the songs "Future Girls Future Boys," "Cosmic Imbecile" and "Black Helicopters." This album captures a wide range of moods, and sets them to some amazing music. Powerful guitar chords, rhythmic basslines and intensely precise drumming and make this album one of the finest musical efforts out there to date. I highly recommend this album. The Cupcakes won't disappoint. :)

The cupcakes are my all-time favorite band... the more I listen, the more I crave for their high-energy sound. I was lucky enough to see them in concert in Orlando, and I haven't been the same since. DEFINITELY BUY IT - you will LOVE it.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely High Speed Cakes.......2000-06-14

Just got a hold of this CD and I'm impressed! This band has an amazingly unique sound--edgy enough to draw you in, dynamic enough to keep you listnening. Every track leads you to the next--leaving you with with not-soon-forgotten sounds and lyrics that make you think. Too bad this CD doesn't come with a Cupcakes live performance! (saw them in chicago.) Singer Preston Graves' awesome voice and unabashed body language command your full attention. This band can truly pull off a live show! On record, Cupcakes gives you guitar-done-right and excellent vocals. Buy this CD!

This album rocks....it's as simple as that. My friend and I got to see these guys live in New Orleans and in Athens, GA....they are LOUD and full of pure Rock energy. The sign of a good cd..is where you can listen to the whole darn thing without skipping a song....making this cd top my favorite list. Every song is well written, easy to get into..and relate to. ROCK ON CUPCAKES!

    4 out of 5 stars Great debut.......2001-10-21

Impossible Recording Machine's debut Axioms is an interesting piece of work. The songs, although broken into three groups(these parts are still intermixed) blend together well.
Standouts are 'Compulsive 3,' 'The Bells," 'Safety in Numbers,' & 'The Soft Wire.'
Both 'The Bells' and 'Safety in Numbers' are among the songs on the album that have vocals (only select songs do) and stand out as intelligent sounding pop songs. The songs are not only listener friendly but also invigoratingly fresh, not the kind of recycled sound so common to current pop music.
'Copulsive 3' is a fast powerfully energetic track that could be considered a 'dance' tune in the club scene except for one fact, it is humanly impossible to keep up with this track.
Overall a great album, has a few slow points, but for the most past is an amazing conceptual disc and I can't wait to see where this leads.

IRM's brains and brawn collaborated for a project called Retina for an album titled Batterie a few years ago. For those of you who are familiar with this project and are looking for this to be a sequel, I think you'll be disapointed.

Axioms is rather a completely new offering in a completely different setting from these two musicans. Rather than an edgy rock/electronic offering, this album is slower and more experimental than its predecessor. Comparisons are naturally going to occur, but both albums do stand by themselves.

The album has a lot of different personalities. One song will be a pop-almost-radio-friendly song and the next will be a soundscape which defies most genre classification. So when you buy this album, don't expect one particular song to sum up the album.

The quality of music is definately par for the course, in terms of what these guys are capable of putting out. There are some moments where experimentalism seems to take precedence over good songwriting, but this is where some of the conflict, pop verses experimentalism, rise on the album. Some of the songs are arranged conservatively, complete with vocals (in a verse and chorus structure) and other pieces are very lose or jagged. You must be able to recognize these arrangement differences in order to grasp the album. Otherwise, your head will be left spinning!

This album is really cool. I bought the cd because solomon snyder is now in Year of the Rabbit (bassist). So I was curious to what his previous band sounded like. I would consider this pop-rock, but not the annoying kind. Lots of digital stuff, awesome guitar riffs and vocals, drums etc. I actually bought my copy for real cheap and it turned out to be this with the bonus track "Intentionally Vague", which rocks also! My favorite song off here is probably "Welcome To The Candy Store", because of the chorus but the whole album is addictive... trust me.
