About the Artist
Crosley Field is a loose collective of musicians fiddling about with many genres of folk music. It's alt-bluegrass, alt-country, alt-mariachi, alt-psychedelic folk. Realizing that there are more similarities than differences in many of the world's folk songs, and living in a city (San Francisco) that is truly a microcosm of the Earth, Crosley Field takes Mexican accordian and organ, British fiddle, Oklahoma banjo, and a tenor guitar to spin dark, Americana gothic tales. Simple stories simply told. After a recent show, a critic quipped "if Lou Reed kidnapped Union Station and made them make a mariachi 'Nebraska' on mescaline" it would sound something like that.
Album Description
'216 Stitches' is the first of three albums to be released in quick succession by Crosley Field. The title song is a nice banjo inflected ramble about heartbreak and baseball. "Her Sugarland Express" connects the Lusitania sinking, the Hindenburg, and the Titanic, with all events being dwarfed by personal loss. "The cows came home last night" is the type of song that country used to make, but doesnt anymore. From the recounting of a man being arrested for killing his lover to the last fleeting thoughts of a murdered prostitute, the album is full of old fashioned murder ballads and thoughts of redemption. Simple stories simply told.
