"Chiming guitar notes and xylophone distantly follow each other in a parade to oblivion."
About the Artist
Cleveland native Frank Longano is the man behind 2.2 Kid Life. Frank has played music now for a number of years and has been under the current mark for the last two. 2.2 Kid Life's medium is synth-pop covered in guitars accompanied by program beats. The songs are catchy, sometimes moody, but always sincere.
Album Description
Villains is 2.2 Kid Lifes sophomore releases on the Philadelphia based Ionik Recordings Company. Often exhibiting a Pavement-like fragility, Villains ten songs blend ethos of indie pop with guitar work and arrangements from the Johnny Marr school of rock.

Wiff.......2007-03-10
Wow, I haven't been this disappointed in an album in a long time. Granted the song "The Freshman" is a timeless classic, but the rest of the album is far from it's greatness. The album lacks melody and is infested with poor song writing. If you like "The Freshman" buy the single, stay clear of "Villains".
Hard to believe this is 10 years old , great stuff.......2006-06-24
Thought this was a great effort by The Verve Pipe. I really thought there wasn't a bad song on this one. Unlike most, I didn't really like "The Freshman" that much, maybe because I heard it ten thousand times that year. However, it was a decent song and there are some definite great ones on this album. My favorites are "Cup of Tea" and the last song "Veneer." Great alternative album definitely. It's too bad these guys didn't take off more.
And, to the reviewer who gave one star, why did you rate 3 songs 4 stars or higher on the album if you gave it such a low rating?
One of my favorite all-time albums........2006-01-13
This album came out while I was in middle school, and I'm not sure I listened to much else back then. I originally purchased the album for "The Freshmen," but I think it's now the least-listened to song (thanks to the overplaying of it on the radio). My music collection has added several thousand songs since then, but I still find I listen to this album more than just about anything else. The transition they make from gentle gentle lyricism to surging melodies and back again has given me a true appreciation of versatility at a time when there's so much that sounds the same. The Verve Pipe has a truly original sound that just can't be duplicated.
Big Disappointment.......2006-01-02
I bought this CD for $2.50. It was worth that, but it is definitely departing from my CD collection. I was so disappointed with this CD. I see many reviews saying how this is a good CD, and it is TVP's best. If this is their best, then I don't wanna touch their other stuff. Songs:
1. Barely If At All (2/5) - Nothing to offer. Sounds like a song you would expect on a first album maybe, not this one.
2. Drive You Mild (1/5) - Sounds like the previous song, only worse.
3. Villains (1/5) - Quieter than the last two, but still awful. And TVP decided to make this their title song?
4. Reverend Girl (2/5) - Better than the last two, with somewhat decent music, but still a below average song.
5. Cup Of Tea (3/5) - Right when I thought all was lost, I actually somewhat enjoyed this one.
6. Myself (2/5) - Drops off down into the level of their first four.
7. Freshmen (5/5) - I've heard a better version of this song, but without a doubt the best song on the CD. One of my favorite all-time songs. Lead vocalist is very passionate in this one.
8. Photograph (1/5) - One of the worst on the album. Very bad choice sitting this one next to 'Freshmen'.
9. Ominous Man (4/5) - Quickly rebounds from 'Photograph' to bring the second best song on the album. Fun to listen to.
10. Real (1/5) - Back into the musical famine. By this point I wanted to just stop listening.
11. Penny Is Poison (1/5) - Not very good lyricism at all. No good music. No passion in the song at all.
12. Cattle (4/5) - The last good song on here. Cool music and good lyrics. Displays some passion and meaning in creating the song.
13. Veneer (1/5) - Horrible way to end it. Worst song on the album. Nothing at all to offer and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
Overall, don't get this CD. If you insist, it may be worth the $2.50 total you pay on here for those few good songs. If you want to get a CD by these guys, get the 'Freshmen' single CD. That CD is amazing.
Great Album.......2005-09-26
Although this album has not recieved as much play time in my CD player as "I've Suffered a Head Injury" it is a great album and one of the TVP's finest efforts. Although this is "The Freshman's" third incarnation I would say it is not one of thier best versions. I am not sure when Brian and co. will be happy with this song, but nontheless it is on the album.
The finest song on this album is Cattle. You can almost feel the drive on HWY 31 that Brian is taking you on in this song. If you are not from Michigan or never been - you need to take 31 from south to north in the fall and put this song on. You will feel every note in the sights and smells that pass you by. Now that I love outside of Michigan this song makes me miss home.
Songs like "Drive you Mild", "Reverend Girl", and "Cup of Tea" are all worth the price of the album individually.
This was TVP's first real album to get airplay and I am not sure why thier career did not take off to the moon. I think it was Brian's unwillingness to write songs that the pop culture will easily be able to soundbite. I think this has caused some tension in the band over the years. I think Donnie (the drummer) would like to write more pop friendly songs and I think Brian would not. Perhaps Donnie's style of songwriting would garner more popularity but I for one am happy they have stayed the way they are. A perfect mix of catchy songs and deep writing.

Released during the era of leisure suits and pet rocks, the film Superman: The Movie has aged about as well. But the often-clumsy charms of Richard Donner's cartoonish, hit-and-miss take on the Man of Steel was blessed with at least one superlative artistic effort: John Williams's epic score. The composer's Oscar-nominated music (coming on the heels of Star Wars and Close Encounters) was a wall-to-wall heroic symphony, rife with memorable melodies and ominous arrangements. Almost every original cut on this soundtrack appears in an expanded version, supplemented by nearly a dozen previously unreleased cues and alternate takes. Featuring a deluxe slipcase and extensive, new liner notes, this is the definitive release of one of Maestro Williams's greatest scores. --Jerry McCulley

Original 1978 Recording?.......2007-04-04
FIVE STAR FOR MUSIC. 1 STAR FOR AUDIO. Ok I've wanted this recording for almost 4 years. Now I got it. I am a discerning listener. This soundtrack is not the best quality. Tape hiss is very pronounced. You can tell it's taken directly from a cassette recording. I have other digital recordings of this music. They are miles ahead of this cd. Soundtrack is on the Rhino label. What? Rhino is not known for high fidelity. So it is very deceiving for one to buy a cd thinking it's John Williams conducting on a new recording in 1998 or whenever. It's the actual 1978 recording. Now let me unleash my rage. This thing sounds as if it's recorded with a single microphone in a bathroom, at a truck stop. Yes the music is phenomenal. My favorite track is #2 Krypton. I was hoping to discover some new hidden melodies that I've never heard in previous recording (original 1978). Nope. This IS the 1978 recording. So I will be getting the Debney recording just so I can hear what I'm missing. Love the music. Just can't hear it. ALL OF IT! But cool booklet. I can't listen to a booklet. But I got it. Whoopee.
AWESOME! John Williams shows again why he's the master of movie scores.......2006-08-31
After over a year of trying to find a seller of this fine soundtrack, I finally found it! It is high time that the full score was released on CD.
The original soundtrack release from 1978, while still an excellent collection, was sadly lacking in several of the best cues from the film. Most important of these was Track 12 (Disc 1) in which the helicopter crashes on the Daily Planet's roof and dangles precariously above the street. Williams builds on it, introducing Superman's theme into it as Clark Kent runs across the street, then rips open his shirt to reveal the 'S' - the symbol of the House of El - then enters the revolving door & exits as Superman. At the end of this is one of my favorite cues; the Superman theme is played as the Man of Steel appears above Metropolis, flying over the city on the hunt for criminals. 'Crime of the Century' (Track 6, Disc 2) was one of my favorite cues; this one portrayed the missile convoy as it made its way along the freeway, where Luthor staged the accident to get his cronies close enough to sabotage the missiles. There are too many new tracks to list here that should have been included the first time around, just a lack of space precluded this from happening.
Is John Williams Superman???.......2006-08-20
After listening to the CD, John Williams must be Superman. By far, the greatest movie score ever written.
Excellent!.......2006-08-10
Other than the over kill of "Can you read my mind", an excellent collection.
Hector, about the liner notes..........2006-07-14
I have the previous edition, and the notes that came with it were nestled next to the CD in a thick booklet (with a cover of Reeve in front of an American flag) that was large enough for the slipcase cover, but too big to fit into the CD case front. Otherwise, the one-sheet cover that came with your soundtrack is identical to the slipcase version.

Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup sure know how to pick 'em. Their Heroes & Villains might be the coolest soundtrack of the summer of 2000, as well as the best repellant for Townsville's evil monkey, Mojo Jojo. Inspired by the Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls series, this delicious disc delivers a handful of exceptional contemporary pop-rock tunes customized especially for the occasion. And the music's so good that it may supersede the cartoon itself. Produced by Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh and Bob Casale, with fave groups picked by Powerpuff Girls creator Craig McCracken, Heroes & Villains has nary a clunker in its bunch. Disc highlights include the Beatles-like "Walk and Chew Gum" (Optiganally Yours), Komeda's killer "B.L.O.S.S.O.M.," Apples in Stereo's hook-infested "Signal in the Sky (Let's Go," Shonen Knife's hard-edged "Buttercup (I'm A Super Girl)," and a fun story thread that runs between songs. Of course there's Devo's own simian cheer lead, "Go Monkey Go," clearly another de-evolutionary breakdown at the hands of the mindless monkey Mojo. Play it again and again at maximum power. --Martin Keller

Heroes and Villians.......2007-07-14
Heroes and Villians is everything I hoped it would be, and more.
It's the perfect PowerPuff Girls soundtrack.
Awesome CD..........2007-05-26
I bought this for my niece for her birthday. She absolutely loves it. The music is great.
Superb Soundtrack.......2006-08-19
The three young superheroines star in this amazing audio adventure where they save the day and play a little music, too. There are songs like "Go Monkey Go" by Devo, "The Fight" by Cornelius, "Walk and Chew Gum" by Optanganally Yours, "I'm a Super Girl" by Shonen Knife(they kinda sound like Puffy Ami Yumi), and of course, "The Signal in the Sky" by The Apples in Stereo. Note that some of those aformentioned songs became really neat music videos on Cartoon Network. Each song surprisingly goes along with the storyline, which is even neater. Also stay tuned on the final track, because of a hidden song will eventually play based on the "Mime for a Change" episode(as seen on "Cartoon Network Christmas Volume 2: Christmas Rocks" DVD).
They say that the Powerpuff Girls Rock and this soundtrack happens to prove it !
Makin' a better day through the power of music!.......2004-10-16
This CD is just incredible! The genre style is dream pop-indie. Songs like "Bubbles" by Dressy Bessy, "Don't Look Down" by The Sugarplastic, and "Signal in the Sky (Let's Go!)" by The Apples in Stereo, will wake you up with it's healing power if you're down, as well as float you away to the clouds if you're tense. Either way, the majority of songs here are powerful and plain irresistable. This is also stuff you'd really want your kids to listen to.
It has credibility whether you really are a kid with a sweet tooth for infectious music or an alienated teen like I was when I fell in love with this record. "Fight the Power" by Bis and "The Fight" by Cornelius are highly danceable and fully forced pop and techno, "B.L.O.S.S.O.M." by Komeda and "Pray for the Girls" by Frank Black are two more choice tracks which both give a kick and are very thoughtful or a little brooding. And finally "Friends Win" by Bill Doss has an interesting 80's sound to it that reminds me of Human League and/or Haircut 100.
I didn't care for "Walk & Chew Gum" by Optiganally Yours or "Go Monkey Go!" by Devo, but they're good songs.
Fabulous and fun!.......2004-06-20
My husband bought this when it first came out because my daughter loved the Powerpuff Girls. I have to say that it is one of my favorite CDs and I am not a big music fan. It is so much fun to listen to as a kid or adult even the music is more for adults than kids.

Floating in on the last wings of Britpop, this Southern California band named after a Northern California college town (or singer James Grundler's nursery school, depending on who you ask) is out of time and out of step. Yet, they create some of the dreamiest pop to emerge on the U.S. side of the pond in recent years. Winsome, anguished, and brainy, paloalto conjures up the spirit of both Pink Floyd and Radiohead in their introspective epics of triumph and self-determination. Gorgeous, buzzing guitars, sleight-of-hand drumming, and extravagant instrumentation create a lush, swelling wall of sound from which Grundler's fragile voice emerges like a ghostly specter, chiseling out affirmations and grave pronouncements with a haunted gentility. --Jaan Uhelszki

Why didnt this album make it big?.......2006-11-09
Im kinda behind on writing this, but Ive enjoyed this record so much. The guys voice is so pleasing to the ears, although kinf of grinding on some songs. Sleeping citizens is one of the best songs Ive heard in awhile. Simple but you can feel it so well. This is just a good rock album.

They are ridiculously underrated.......2006-01-13
They are now a new band, known as "golden state". Don't get confused, there is already a band out there known as golden state that is horrendous. These guys are the best below radar band I've come across in so long. I strongly recommend you go see them live, they are unabelievably talented...and talk about an unreal singing voice. I wish I could give these guys 6 stars. BUY THIS CD.
Love This Band.......2005-11-12
I love Palo Alto and their songs. They are way better then Coldplay. They maybe lesser known then Coldplay but they are definitely better. I first heard Palo Alto on the Daredevil Soundtrack with the song Fade Out/In. It made me by this CD and as I listened to their songs I fell in love with their songs and their ability to create great music. Not boring music that makes you want to fall asleep like Coldplay in which all their songs sound the same, Palo Alto is able to make the difference between songs that makes them great musicians unlike Coldplay who plays the same things over and over.
beautiful music.......2005-10-21

Brilliant...again!.......2002-11-03
This band are simply phenomonal. They are masters of what they do. but again the Saw Doctors have produced a cracking album. It's different...that's for sure. There are new styles such as the heavy guitars on the title track and the brass on a lot of tracks. but it is classic. This Is Me, Villains?, DNA and Bound To The Peace are as classic as any Saw Doctors material. The first time I heard the CD i wasn't quite sure. but the next time I definitely was, and they are great live.
ehhh........2002-08-14
so, sing a powerful song was, is GREAT. this one... not so much. i mean, i can listen to sing a powerful song time and again. the songs are passionate and real and though they're firmly rooted in the band's irish heritage, speak with a wonderful universal quality.
villains... is just not so good. at times they sound like they might be close to having a great song on their hands, but then it just falls to pieces. this album sounds like it's trying to hard - like they've forgotten whatever it was that made sing a powerful song such an incredible album.
my recommendation, buy 5 copies of sing a powerful song. keep one for your house, one for your car, wear one around your neck a la flavor flav, send one home to your mom, and leave the last one at your local bar in the hands of serendipity. don't even bother with villains.
just saw them get blown off the stage in buffalo by a local band named jackdaw.
A Change of Pace, but in the right direction.......2002-02-24
If you've ever experienced a live Saw Doctors show, you know that the energy and excitement doesn't really translate to a studio recording. This album is the exception. Quality recording, a good mix of fast and slow songs, and three songs (This is Me, Chips, and DNA) that are among their finest. Leo and Pearse really shine on this album, they are truly emerging as powerful songwriters. A must-buy! And be sure to check them out live. As the other reviewer said, this is the bast band you have never heard of!
A Great Irish Band Scores Again.......2002-02-15
The first time I listened to this CD, I thought it was very good. The second and third times, I realized this was a great CD. A solid, enjoyable, thoughtful and fun CD. SawDoctors fans will love it and newcomers will be glad they bought it. And, if you ever get the chance to see these guys in concert, do so. They are an excellent live band.

Album Description
Fun collection of Disney classics that spotlight the villains of many of their famous cartoons and movies. Disney may be more famous for the cute and delightful characters that they've created for nearly a century (Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Woody, Annette) but their villains have always been just as memorable, if not more so! From pirates to witches, Disney always offered a slice of darkness in their otherwise uplifting features (Cruella De Vil? More like Cruella Devil!). This compilation gathers together music from those films and cartoons including The Pirates Of The Caribbean ('Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life For Me'), 101 Dalmatians ('Cruella De Vil'), Peter Pan ('Elegant Captain Hook') and more. EMI. 2006.

Customer Reviews:
can't get better than this.......2007-07-05
One the most wonderful recordings of all time. Most amazing group of wind musicians I've ever heard. Unmatched collection of compositions mostly from the Scott Joplin era. All of the B side is instrumental selections from Joplin's only opera.
