Can you imagine a compilation including Electric Frankenstein, Blind Pigs, Toxic Narcotic and rap artist Busy Bee on the same piece of plastic? Can you stomach a CD that slots the Pietasters, Dee Dee Ramone, and The Ducky Boys on the same bill without explanation, cause, or numerous liner notes. Sounds insane, implausible, impossible, impractical, irrational…nuts??!! Not if you’re Adam Gecking, VMS label head and musical conceptualist behind the new compilation "One Man’s Trash". Featuring all the bands listed above as well as other notables like Against Me, Down by Law, Ann Beretta, Big D and the Kids Table and many more, Gecking has assembled an awesome collection of unpolished gems in one reasonably priced packaged under guise of finding value in what others throw away. And as strange as this may sound, some of the biggest records in music history started off a b-sides or throwaways, castoffs or misfit cuts. Adding to the flavor of the record are off-beat additions like hip-hop party rocker DJ Kool and retard rapper Prince Charming Chaz. Mix street beats with pure postpunk pop heads Something About Vampires and Sluts, and you’ve got a recipe for a unique record make even the most competent dumpster diver proud.

I was fortunate enough to see this band perform several times - including their last performance the night of the tragic car accident that killed two of the band members. The Jody Grind was all about Kelly Hogan - a singer who deserves much more recognition than she has received to date. While Hogan's later work has been mostly rooted in alt-country, the Jody Grind was eclectic to the extreme - jazz, R&B, rock, and soul all mixed together. To put it simply, if you are a fan of great female vocalists, you need to seek this CD out. While Hogan is best appreciated in person, this will give you a taste. After you've digested "One Man's Trash" be sure to follow up with her solo recordings. Everything she does is worth hearing.

I particularly love "One Man's Trash is Another Man's treasure", "It Aint Necessarily So", and "Peter Gunn".

Even though this album came out in '91, I was never exposed to it until '96. Upon listening for the first time, I thought that it was ok...but not what I needed to stay awake for my graveyard shift. A couple of days later I listened again, when I could relax and take it all in, and was transfixed by this beautiful woman's voice taking me away to a smoke-filled jazz lounge. I could almost picture her sprawled over a piano, delivering these delicious jazz melodies.

Since then, whenever I feel like relaxing, I will have a couple of cocktails, put this disk into the cd player, and be swept away once again. I never grow tired of this one.

This is my all-time favorite CD. It's jazzy, smooth and a little torchy in places and sung by a woman with a voice like milk from a goddess. I have almost worn a hole in this disc. I'm not a music critic or even very eloquent, but I had to take this opportunity to encourage folks to buy this while it's still available! This group would clearly have been a major success if the lives of several band members hadn't been cut short in a tragic accident. The world truly lost an amazing group, and all of Atlanta mourned.

      This disc spans the entire career or Charlie from his native Nebraska recordings to the Austin recordings. Clever songwriting is Charlies nitch. The early stuff is in the rock/rockabilly vein progressing into a more seudo country flair in the latter work still keeping a nice edge. At times the work seems almost tongue in cheek. This is a must have for roots rock fans.

      The Jody Grind were one of the most interesting roots-rock/country groups of the early '90's & a showcase and
      springboard for a distinctive singer, Kelly Hogan. This album is an eclectic mix of country, blues, & "classic pop"
      standards, dipped occasionally in Georgia Southern Gothic imagery and touches of various folk rhythms. Perhaps a bit too eclectic
      at times-- but it would have been interesting to see where the group might have gone. Essential though for any Hogan fan, and definitely of interest for anyone with a taste for alternative country, roots rock or country blues.

      An eclectic mix of original and cover songs. A strong flavor of blues permeates this album with a hint of country and big band sound. The stronger titles, by far, within this album are the band's own titles. Kelly Hogan's voice dominates this album and rightfully so. Her voice has remained one of our favorites for the past 9 years. It is sad that the life of this band was ended so tragically. I continue to hope to hear this sound in the future.

            Little known Finnish band, I've had this CD for awhile now but I happen to spot this posting so I thought I'd review it. Twelve nicely arrainged tunes that features some very good playing, decent vocals and great keyboard work. Best described as progressive pop, with psychedelic elements. Most notable cuts are the title track "One Man's Trash", "I'll Be Your Dream", "A Fast One", the ballad-like "Living On The Edge" and the somewhat adventurous "My Dear Old Problem". Also was impressed with "Now Ann", that's a well-written radio friendly tune. Whole CD has a good 'flowing vibe' to it, I thought. Might appeal to fans of Small Faces, Nick Drake, The Who and possibly T.Rex.
