A hard pill to swallow........2007-03-16
It is a hard pill to swallow intially for Pixies fans used to the insane sounds of their earlier albums.
I intially didn't like this album at all. I'd go as far to say I'd hated it for the longest time. It didn't sound right to me, and where did all of my self-mutilating, silly Pixies go? Well, they're still here, but they've matured as their music has.
After many listens I have to say this album ranks up there with "Doolittle". It's simply the Pixies at their finest. They've honed their psychotic sound and it simply rocks.
Be sure to listen to it a few times before judging it. Now, I need to buy another copy...darn friends losing my albums..
OH MY GOD!.......2006-12-09
PIXIES NEVER DISAPPOINT. This album contains the bizarre nature signature of the band and only Frank Black's vocals can pull it off without trying too hard to be something different. Trompe Le Monde is an album that sounds as if they were only having a jolly good time but not experimenting haphazardly. Their energy is contagious and you'll find yourself singing/ screaming along with the entire album. One of Pixies' best, other than Bossanova.
SPACEY DREAMS AND DISONANCE MAKE IT THEIR BEST.......2006-10-28
I have to say that after immersing myself in everything Pixies, this album came out on top for me. I mean I love all their albums; they came in this order - Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossanova, Trompe La Monde. Every one has a different side of the same vibe that the Pixies invented. The rawest sound with hints of punk is on Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa. Every one however has that unique, surreal sound, which Doolittle developed with a more playful groovy attitude. Bossanova I would say is their transition in sound between Doolittle and Trompe La Monde (which are quite different). I don't want to put down Bossanova, but I sort of think of it as a lamer version of Trompe La Monde. The sound is similar, but the songs just aren't as good, there's much less energy. Trompe La Monde, however, is the pinnacle of their sound in my opinion. Doolittle was more dissonant and pleasantly weird, and Bossanova lacked all that, having more standard melodies and a laid back feel. Trompe La Monde merged those two sounds to create songs that interchanged between, and combined surreal, dissonant, raging sounds with harmonious melodies. In a way, you could call Trompe La Monde a version of Doolittle being played by aliens in space. I've always thought of a Pixies song as being out of this world, a sort of surreal painting of something energetic and bold, like a dream. In that way their music is a wonderful escape, and Trompe La Monde is by far their most exact interpretation of how their dreams must feel.
If not their greatest, certainly close to it.......2006-09-15
Along with "Doolittle," Trompe holds up as the best top to bottom Pixies album. Not one weak song and some of their greatest like "Letter to Memphis," "Palace of the Brine" and "Motorway to Roswell." So Kim Deal does not play a major role on the album, who cares? The Pixies always were Joey Santiago and Frank Black. An addictive album that will have you listening to it over and over.
Best Pixies CD!.......2006-05-16
This is my favorite Pixies CD!! Forget Surfer Rosa, forget Doolittle, this is their best stuff. The CD should be listened to as a whole. Head On, Bird Dream, Distance Equals, are all fantastic songs. Buy this CD.
