Dene Bebbington - Wind and Wire
THE BEST RECORDINGS OF 2004!
Ken Oliver
This CD and his other music takes you away to different mindscapes. Highly recommended
Album Description
It has an uplifting spirit to the album and is in more of the realm of artistic expression than it is categorically an "Ambient" album. Trajectories has 7 great ambient songs that are lush and vibrant. This music is alive and a deep sense of wonder and amazement is felt throughout the entire album. There are guitars and of course very layered ambient drones. You'll also find processed vocal, and slow-motion piano that is really enjoyable to listen to. I hope that the recording conveys more than I intended.
Trajectories
Trajectories, Music, Diatonis, Alternative, Experimental, New Age, Trajectories is a lush ambient album. There is a deep sense of being that is felt throughout the entire album. It has an uplifting spirit that is more of artistic expression than it is an "Ambient" album.

A step forward for a solid ambient artist.......2004-09-30
Diatonis' work exemplifies solid ambient work by a solid small-label artist. His "Ambient Life" series showed that he had a good grasp on music as sound, combined with the hints of a pop sensibility. Contrary to ambient artists which border on "new age", Diatonis' work is closer to the space music and Eno end of the spectrum, with only hints of "tribal" notions creeping in.
Trajectories is a solid, straight ahead creation of mature, well-done ambient music. The conceit he adopts is to permit the work to be a bit more "organic", in that performance studio flaws are not edited from the mix in the way that some slightly sterile ambient music can be presented.
Diatonis' work appeals to those who like their ambient done with subtlety of execution but directness of purpose. He's not immediately derivative of any other artist, but his work makes small in-roads, and not self-conscious defections from the ambient tradition.
Diatonis is a fellow who, quite frankly, should be better known.
Trajectories is one more step on his path to become more widely known. It's a great buy, and a solid CD.

Excellent Ambient Music in Surround Sound.......2005-05-12
This is one Diatonis' finest pieces of work next to Ambient Life. I found I connected to it on more of an emotional level. It isn't ear candy but rather music that subtlety evokes an emotional response. The surround sound element really enhances this effect as well. I would not suggest buying this album if you want to disassociate for your current state of mind. It simply won't let you, it's deep. The sound of the album reminds me of Eno in some places but is primarily in a category of it's own. It is a CDR and I've had no problems playing the album but apparently some 5.1 systems can't play a cdr.
Great Album!
This is Bad...really, really Bad!.......2005-03-27
This is not a good example of 5.1 sound in action. The `artist' seems to have no sense of quality in his recording. The pioneer of `ambient' music, Brian Eno would cringe. It's bad enough that the recordings are uninspired or lack creativity, but it's also the plain old fact that they are horribly recorded. There are `pops' and `cracks' throughout that are loud enough to startle. Sometimes there is hissing similar to an analogue recording and frequently, the sound disappears completely for a split second. Not once did I feel I was experience true 5.1 surround sound. It sounds like it was recorded in a garage, for Lord's sake! Be wary - 5.1 DTS can be much, much better than this.

Future World Prog Stars?.......2007-03-31
Since I am always on the watch for new bands to sample, particularly those of a progressive bent, I didn't hesitate to find Trajectories and order it here from an amazon partner while it was yet available after getting a strong recommendation from someone who had read one of my Glover Gill reviews.
After reading the first review here and considering the recommendation I got, I don't see any connection between the style of music Glover Gill plays, the music of King Crimson, and the music of Lost World. Oh, Trajectories is an OK album, fine for background music or just for relaxed listening, but I hear nothing that jumps off the disc at me.
Perhaps Lost World are destined to be future world prog stars, but though they are fine and competent musicians, they will have to come up with a sound that sets them apart from the sea of other contenders for ear-time.
Trajectories won't just sit in the case gathering dust. I'll listen again down the line and try to see if I hear anything that escaped me the first couple of times. In the meantime, I will be waiting to hear what Lost World comes up with next.
Mike Oldfield meets King Crimson and played by virtuoso musicians.......2007-02-05
This band is from Moscow, Russia, and all of the band's members are classically trained graduates from Moscow State Conservatory.
They play sophisticated music that sometimes sound like "classic" King Crimson circa Red, sometimes like Roxy Music, sometimes like.... Mike Oldfiled?
Four tracks with vocals (in Russian, though, but with ranslation in English)) give listeners some relief between more sophisticated and sometimes dark tracks. They are very good and melodic.
The musical palette of the band is quite rich: in addition to traditional rock instruments they play violin and fluite.
Highly recommended to fans of King Crimson, Universe Zero, Mike Oldfield and anybody who loves well produced non-commercial and challenging music!

Customer Reviews:
An excellent modern recording of a landmark work.......2001-08-08
The disc contains a mix of composer/arranger contemporaries of Bob Graettinger who were promoted by Stan Kenton. The major work is Graettinger's City of Glass originally performed by Kenton. This new recording sparkles where the original suffers the limitations of the mono recording medium of the early 1950s.
The performance has all the commitment and verve of a serious big band daring to play this sort of work - but then it is under Gunther Schuller's direction so good is to be expected.
My only misgiving concerns the performance of an earlier version of The City of Glass (from 1947). Interesting it may be, I nevertheless felt its main use was to demonstrate why the work was rewritten. The original is a little more swing-y; develops its thematic material a lot less and is nowhere as daring in orchestrastion. It is not a version I'd want to hear again specially as I'm well acquainted with the 1951 rewrite.
All in all a very good disc and a must-have for anyone interested in avant garde American music of the fifties/sixties.
