Par Crone
Editorial Reviews
Album Description
NORTHPORT Records, sister label to Chicago's famed jazz label, SOUTHPORT Records, announces the release of PAR CRONE, the CD and the BAND. PAR CRONE hails from the mind of guitarist/vocalist/composer and visual artist GREG CURVEY. With the use of vintage analog tools and a blend of fat sounds... stereo imagery... screamin' guitar solos... and, hypnotic melodies- PAR CRONE creates a world of sonic, lyrical and visual beauty complete with sci-fi-delic arp synth. From the opening cut #1 "We Come", PAR CRONE invades the senses as the power builds beneath a liquid wall of acoustic guitar and classic synths. Track #3,"Hypnotized" questions the laws of communication "can you hear me", laced with angry guitars and a hungry beat... this is a song that you won't want to end. Track #4, "Sunny Girlfriend" begins with a short synth intro that explodes into massive guitar hooks and a very catchy chorus. "Ophelia", track #6, offers a new twist on a classic tale, painting a portrait of psychedelic beauty as Curvey's voice lifts, flashing forward and backward, mystifying the listener.
PAR CRONE was recorded and produced by the production team of Patrick Halliwell & Greg Curvey at Sparrow Sound Design in Chicago, and mastered at MONSTERDISC by Jay O'Rourke. PAR CRONE reflects a sound and vision that has been missing from the airwaves. It comes from the inner mind of the artists involved, pure and from a clear vantage point.
Greg Curvey is no stranger to the Chicago music scene. His former band, "The Luck Of Eden Hall" began at Limited Potential Records, and by their third recording, "Belladonna Marmalade", recorded and produced by Dave Trumfio- now of The Pulsars- the band's acclaim reached the Fox Network, C.M.J., Alternative Press and rave European reviews. "The Luck Of Eden Hall" line-up of Greg Curvey, Mark Lofgren and Joe Furlong added guitarist Kevin Patrick and became Par Crone in 1997.
