5 out of 5 stars World of Warcraft Sountrack.......2007-02-26

simply amazing! this soundtrack has every good song in the game, with advancments!

5 out of 5 stars A great collection of music from the game........2006-11-10

I bought the Collector's Edition strictly because of this CD. The music is a large part of what I like about WoW. Every track goes perfectly with the areas that correspond them. listening to the music brings imagery from the game and the vast vistas of Azeroth.

The only problem is it doesn't have every track from the game, but that is understandable since the game is so vast. I'd like to see a follow up, maybe the one from BC will cover this.

I also would like to add that this CD can be bought directly from Blizzard for 10 bucks. The price some of these guys are trying to charge elsewhere is a bit ridiculous. Especially since it's the exact same CD as the one from the CE.

Highly recommended.

See you on Bronzebeard.

5 out of 5 stars Chip n' Carrie are da hizzzel fo-shizzzle dogg!! .......2007-03-23

I took a chance on this album, and I'm very glad I did. I bought it two weeks ago, listened to it for a week, and then picked up two more of their albums ('Angel of the Morning' [a live disc] & 'Red Dog Tracks') both of which - I think I can aver, from two days exposure - are as good as this one.

For those who are not aware (I wasn't until I listened to this, and did a little research) Chip Taylor has quite the career as a singer-songwriter (penned 'Angel of the Morning' - of Juice Newton/Merilee Rush fame, and 'Wild Thing' sung by - what was it - the Troggs?) interspaced with periods as a professional golfer & gambler (banned form Atlantic City).. Anyhow, we can all rejoice, because he's given up both frivolities, and thankfully returned to where he belongs, to song. (See ChurchoftheTrainWreckdotOrg, for the story straight from the man himself..)

Some few apparently dislike his voice - a West Texas breeze fluting sagegrass & cracked deadwood (ahh.. cut me some slack, impressionistic metaphor, there..) - a warm, sonorous country folk gravel, rent by an occasional crack or twang; reminiscent of Willie Nelson cut with Johnny Cash's lighter tones (and Chip does in fact do a mean Johnny imitation, check out the bonus track.) It's gently rough & musical, I dig it.

As for Carrie, she is sweet. That, in more ways than one. Her voice melds with Chip's like honey on peanut butter - she reminds me of a brasher Natalie Maines, only these guys' material is much better than the Dixie Chicks' (a band I've liked historically, because of their folk & bluegrass influences, but gone too pop-rock glitz for me these days..) Chip & Carrie, in contrast, are nothing but country-folk-bluegrass fusion. Eclectic, yet masterful. And Man oh Manoschevitz, do I love it.

Two of my favorite instruments are prominent here, Carrie's fiddle, and Chip's harmonica. Being a harp player myself, I've been jamming along with this album, which is *much* groovier than singing to it. Good times.. Yessir.

Songs. Couple honorable mentions: The first, and last ('hidden' - but not too deeply, thank goodness) tracks are simply super.. 'Don't Speak in English' & 'Find Me a Killer..' They name check Puff Diddy, Johnny Cash (inspiring Chip's Cash "Bridge Over Troubled Water" rendition,) John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, etc.. and include a snippet cover of Hank Sr.'s I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You..)

Chip on the MTV awards show: "Now Puff Diddy's the host, but Carrie, Diddy's doin' nothin' for me.. (Carrie interjects: "And this isn't my kinda music, really") ..but the girls sure look pretty, least that's the way it seems around here these days.."

Well, I'm with you on that first bit there, Chip. But I gotta say those hop hip mommas'll never touch Carrie..

Anyway, suddenly Chip's anomie verges into laconic (satiric?) revolt: "Oh me, ain't breakin' a sweat, gonna find me a killer, get me a contract and shoot out the TV set.." Heh heh. Since mercy killing is against the law, they unfortunately can't advocate capping P Diddy & the rest of those obnoxious nihilists.. So Chip & Carrie take a rhetorical 12-gauge to the major media & music industry. Pump a couple buckshot into your radio, then listen to these guys, instead.

Live the folk. Music of, by and for the people. Take that Clear Channel!

Anyway: Check this one out, I doubt you'll regret it.

Like the relationship between Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson in Sofia Coppola's film, Lost In Translation, the intergenerational bonding of Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez works in a way that eludes easy analysis. The elder former hit song writer ("Wild Thing," "Angel Of The Morning")/professional gambler and the younger singer/fiddler harmonize telepathically, while their vocal timbres compliment each other, matching his Billy Joe Shaver gruffness with her Lucinda Williams attitudinal twang. The Trouble With Humans builds on the back-porch feeling of their debut record with improved sonics that increases the intimacy to a point where the tunes feel almost accidentally overheard. While it would be wrong to call it a concept record, there is a strong theme running throughout. Lines like "don't say words I understand" ("Don't Speak In English"), "don't say a word" ("Memphis, Texas"), and "some words should hit the air like silence" ("Curves And Things") speak of the failure of language, ironically on a CD rife with well-crafted lyrics. But truly, for Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez, it is their unique musical kinship that speaks greater volumes. --Michael Ross

5 out of 5 stars Chips in his true haven!.......2006-02-05

I've been following Chip since "Big River" in the early seventies. And after his long hiatus he's finally back; it started with "The living room tapes" and just keeps getting better than ever. His teaming up with Carrie has been nothing but phenomenal! and "The trouble with humans" fits right in there with their other work. His songwriting, their singing and musicianship, and the help of all the other great people contributing on this project is just outstanding. I love him, and her, and them together!

    5 out of 5 stars I love their duets!.......2005-10-05

What an intensity! And what a moving way of singing of both Carrie and Chip! Simply a new meaning of the word "duets".....

I had the pleasure to see and hear them live in Oslo some weeks ago. What an awsome night!!!

Please hurry to make another album - I play the three you've made over and over again.

My next trip to Austin, Texas will have to correspond with their tour plans....

5 out of 5 stars Country Music like it Oughta Be .......2005-09-14

Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez have made four albums and they get better with each. This is the second. Chip writes most of the songs, sings lead, and plays guitar and harmonica. Carrie joins in the singing with a twang that would curl a tuning fork -- think about Iris Dement -- and plays a mean violin.

Chip and Carrie don't sing together as much as they take turns with verses and choruses. Their songs are literate and kind of a mixture of folk and country -- with a cello joining in on several tracks to add an additional touch of class to an already classy act. They've achieved a sound that's not quite like anybody else.

All the twelve songs on this CD are good -- and a 13th playful tune is hidden at the end as a bonus. I especially like the uptempo "Curves and Things" and the rollicking "Laredo" and lines like "she gets that feelin' in her jeans...and what's hers is his." This is good sounding music that's smart and complex enough to listen to over and over.

3 out of 5 stars Trouble With Taylor.......2004-11-03

Based on the positive reviews, I had high hoped for this disc. There are definitely some good songs, and I like Carrie Rodriguez's singing and fiddling; however, Chip Taylor's voice is so far gone that I find his singing nearly unlistenable. There are so many interesting people in this genre (Darrell Scott,Kim Richey, Radney Foster to name a few) that I would pass this disc by in favor of any of the above artists' work.

5 out of 5 stars Faith, Poetry, Dark Skies.......2006-08-16

Just revisited the vinyl last night. Needed to hear the context of this couplet: "You get bigger as you go...bales of memory like boats in tow." For, of all things, a sermon I'm giving. It was good to revisit this early-middle album of his. I saw him around this time at the Paradise in Boston. The late Hugh Marsh, in a canadian military jumpsuit, wailing away at an electric violin. He did "The Strong One" in total darkness at first. Very stark chorded melodies. His skills as a wordsmith would overwhelm a lesser guitarist and he would be called a rock poet, a Canadian Leonard Cohen. If he weren't such a good writer he'd be lumped with guitar virtuousos like Al Dimeola, fellow Berkeley School of Music student.

But here, in Humans, you have the insufficient hope of reconcilliation in marriage "Gonna tell my old lady gonna tell my little girl there isn't anything in the world that can lock up my love again." It fell apart anyway, even though it was "sealed in the presence of the father". Here he has to take his estrangement along with his faith and struggle, much as Amy Grant, another Christian songwriter did later in Behind the Eyes. There are the great challenges to faith expressed in Festival of Friends earlier confronting murder, suicide, the guerillas, pulling cars out of rivers, despair..."at at certain point, you can only die." If art is born of agony, here it is. A quarter century later, I can still count on one hand the songwriters who have risen to his equal in moral vision, in insight and in skill. "I wonder if I'll end up like Bernie in his dream
A displaced person in some foreign border town Waiting for a train part hope part myth While the station changes hands
Or just sitting at home growing tenser with the times Or like that guy in "The Seventh Seal" Watching the newly dead dance across the hills Or wearing this leather jacket shivering with a friend While the eye of God blazes at us like the sun

Musically, he's growing with an ensemble here, further experimentations with Reggae, "something shining like gold, but better." The music is ecelectic, world music before there was a name for it. There's intensity even in the ballads, or should they be called slow laments. I could go on, but you can't learn more about this CD without listening.

5 out of 5 stars Through 2006, this remains for me Bruce's best art.......2004-11-02

"Humans" is so aptly titled. After listening to earlier and subsequent albums, I can say the artistry of the lyrics on this album, imbued by the music, is not only one my most coveted Cockburn records but one of my most coveted albums ever -- alongside Michael Hedges "Aerial Boundaries" and Bob Dylan's "Bringing It All Back Home." There are other great albums, but let me not digress into a long list of comparisons.

"Humans" is such a biblical record -- ripe with tragedy, hope, human longing, and exploring each shade of a 64-gray scale. What about the bond? Bruce, tell us more about our problematic marriages.

    5 out of 5 stars Not Afraid.......2004-06-14

Bruce has never been afraid to mix politics and love together. He shows it in this album..his humanistic style and compassion toward the human race show through with multi-colored success!

5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest albums of all time.......2004-01-23

This is just an astonishingly wonderful album. Very dark and bitter yet catchy at the same time. I must have listened thousands (literally) of times. Much different than the cheery "dancing in the dragon's jaw"; it's like the evil cockburn twin (not really evil, but certainly aware of it...)

    5 out of 5 stars Bruce's Best.......2003-10-31

Kicking off the 80's,"Humans",saw Bruce beginning to add political awareness to his Christian spirituality. An album that builds on his fine late 70's albums,("In the Falling Dark","Further Adventures of" and "Dancing in the Dragons Jaw".)and foreshadows the increasing militancy of the rest of his 80's output.
All the songs are first rate but "The Rose Above the Sky" stands out as a gorgeous song about coming to terms with loss and reconciliation.
The remastered version is particularly welcome, with the enhanced sound bringing out the feel and instrumentation of the record that much more.

4 out of 5 stars An unfortunate CD release.......2006-07-24

While this 13-track original score is largely incomplete and (as many have commented) full of the more useless cues; stuff we could do without, there is a 34-track bootleg floating around. I don't know how to get a hold of it, but it's circulating through the internet, giving David Newman the true audio release he deserved for one of his best musical efforts.

      1 out of 5 stars Pointless.......2005-10-06

Why have a soundtrack that has all of the songs people don't care about? Basically this cd has all the background music that you never notice and quite frankly don't care about. Most of you who want to buy this cd is the same reason why you would buy any other, because it has one or two (very rarely three) songs that you want to get. The song that you are probably looking for is when the three of them with the baby are walking to the peak (where they ride in the ice caves) togather. It's called "Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root. Hope that helps

I would like to thank everyone for listing the song Send me on my way. I was specifically looking for this song and did expect it to be on the CD. So thank you all for looking out for the other people interested.

1 out of 5 stars Song not on CD.......2004-04-26

To those of you interested in this CD in lieu of finding the "songs with lyrics" in the movie ICE AGE, got bad news for you. They are NOT here! I really do hate it when a soundtrack is put out for a movie and they don't include the best or features songs in the movie. Anyway, the song that pretty much everyone wants when Manny, Sid, Diego and the baby are together and walking towards Half Peak is called "Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root. It is on their latest album "When I Woke". Put Rusted Root in the Amazon search engine and you should find it. Hope this helps those looking for this song.

        5 out of 5 stars AMAZING CD........2003-12-10

i'm so glad i found this cd !!! i heard the song "time and time again"...with the lyrics "oh, to love you...to love you not...makes no difference, it's all that i've got. there's no reason for you to watch while i wait for you to be perfect."
how amazing are those lyrics? the whole album is really good....I describe stretch princess to my friend as a cross between Michelle Branch & Avril Lavgine, with a rock twist....check out this cd, you will NOT be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Such an Amazing band..........2003-10-28

At first i thought this CD was ok, but afterwhile if you give it a chance and listen to it more and more it really REALLY grows on you. It is now one of my favorite albums and I listen to it all the time. Freakshow is a really great song with very clever lyrics, just look them up. I love the line..."I dont want the ocean in my seashell, i just want a boyfriend with a brain cell." lol I thought that was a cute lyric. Anyway, if you haven't heard of this band before i suggest you check them out, there great. Jo has such a beautiful voice and as i said, this cd just grows on you.

5 out of 5 stars Great New Sound.......2003-09-30

I first heard stretch princess in a movie and really liked it. I got the first cd and enjoyed it, and I must say the same for this one. It's an awesome cd and the songs are new and really catchy. Pick it up if you can!

        3 out of 5 stars Candy Rock.......2003-05-01

If you love a sexy female singing voice backed by an up tempo drum beat and clean guitar licks Stretch Princess's second CD, Fun for Humans, won't disappoint the pop rock fan. Led off by the defiant song about a lovers break up, Freakshow, you be humming lines from this ditty all day. The album is dominated by mostly sophomoric musings about relationship woes and falling in love. Some of the songs are touching (Dying to Begin, Favourite Lunatic,Over and Over). This album is huge improvement from their previous self-titled effort. Stretch Princess, a British/Australian trio, could be described as female dominated cross between Third Eye Blind and The Cardigans. Take all the sultry female vocals of bassist Jo Lloyd and mix it with catchy guitar riffs of Third Eye and Stretch's sound is born. The only gripe this reviewer has about the album is the candy rock polished sound. While all the songs are catchy they tend to get old quickly. Stretch Princess brings no new innovation to rock and mostly feels like a replay of The Sundays on Prozac with less meaningful lyrics. The real highlight of the band is Jo Lloyd's beautiful voice. This album is a fun listen with no dogs on it. I bought it and think fans of The Cardigans, The Sundays, and Third Eye Blind will enjoy this in their music collections.

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A fun, upbeat, and very electronic take on nostalgia.......2006-06-27

Contrary to what another reviewer stated, this album is very enjoyable, in a mildly twisted--but very catchy--way. It contains a wide variety of tracks in terms of overall style, separated by short audio sketches (under 25 seconds each) which often directly relate to the game after which this album is named. These lead-in tracks help make the otherwise eclectic album easier to handle in a single session, smoothly passing from the JunkieXL's slick and elegant remixes and originals to Timo Maas' faster paced "Help Me" (which has some fantastic vocals working with the hybrid electronic/brass backing), to Meat Beat Manifesto's grungy, noise-heavy tracks.

This album will never appeal to everyone. On top of this, it is the Soundtrack, *NOT* the Score, and as such, it largely contains "Inspired by" works. "Destroy All Humans" is an excellent compilation of tracks which otherwise boost the Scifi-retro atmosphere of the game. Do not make the mistake of assuming it will come with the game's score. Just read the track list and you'll see for yourself.

I don't like Techno, and I don't like Dance, House, or Club music. But this ain't any of those, and I love it. (It's also a album for any JunkieXL fan.)

4 out of 5 stars Not the score, but fun theme album........2006-02-09

I was originally looking for an CD of Garry Schyman's wonderful score for "Destroy All Humans". Well this isn't it, but I decided to order it anyway and am so glad I did. It's a fun and well done album, a nice mix of music that loosely follows the theme, interspersed with comical/ironic comments from a "radio announcer". Alot of the music has a 50's/60's flavor to it. Good fun. P.S. Would still like to see an album of Garry Schyman's "Destroy All Humans" music only, but until then am enjoying this CD.

2 out of 5 stars Not the real game soundtrack.......2005-12-01

I love the game "Destroy All Humans" and I love the original and appropriately retro score by Garry Schyman. This CD is NOT that score! Oh, there's a clip here and there of Schyman's excellent homage to 1950's sci-fi music, but it's been stomped on all over by already dated hip-hop beats. Why did they do this? If you loved the music so much that you wanted to purchase a CD of a soundtrack from a video game, then you want THE SOUNDTRACK. If you want a typical house music hip-hop CD then you'll probably look elsewhere anyway. Sure is a shame. Garry Schyman's score deserves a real soundtrack CD. The this would have been 0 stars if not for the few clips of Schyman's score.
