Editorial Reviews
Sunday Grey, Music, Eleven Eleven, the sunday grey ep is melodic english pop in the style of the cure, coldplay and radiohead. "indie pop" would best describe this jangly guitar assault under emotive vocals.
About the Artist
weaving dark themes through layers of melody and lyrics, eleven eleven is music for the rainy day that never stops. this philadelphia area band formed officially in this lineup in 2001 and with a tour of london under their belt forge on to the ears of "the different crowd." a clever presentation that borders on the edge of jangly pop ecstacy only to plummet lyrically into the greyest of days. lead singer guitarist jeff giuliani reflects a young robert smith (cure) with his vocal delivery and lyrics. influenced by texture geniuses like smith, johnny marr (the smiths) and kevin shields (my bloody valentine), jeff's guitar approach recalls an era where guitars had personality and tone. jeff met drummer rich franchetta while in the 2nd grade and has not been in a band without him since. rich cites john bonham as a major influence and lives in "the pocket" backing all of the watery musical landscapes. jerry ramos followed on bass with influences ranging from jaco pastorius to guitar and vocal phenom jeff buckley. jerry supports the music with rich bass lines complementing every aspect of the melody and exploring unchartered approaches to his instrument. eric mallon soon joined after with parts parts parts. eric chooses his parts from many different influences and rounds out the complete sound of eleven eleven. not afraid to experiment, he sometimes uses his instrument as anything but a guitar to get the right mood for the song. eleven eleven are currently recording their next full length cd at jeff's "upstairs room" studio. the album is tentatively scheduled for a February 2004 release. with tour plans scheduled for early next year and a performance on the conan o'brien show, eleven eleven are well on their way to indie stardom which is just fine with them. "we don't really like the idea of having anyone in control of the music but us. keeping it small keeps us more in touch with our audience and releases us from the pressure of having to sell too many units to break even. we like the fact that our fans keep us in their pockets like a love note in eighth grade. they share us only with those who will appreciate us. that's what it's about for me."
