Five O'Clock Somewhere (self titled)

Editorial Reviews
Mix Magazine
"Producing this band was rewarding because they let me help shape the sound that has now become their signature" If you loved Crowed House, still like that one really cool Del Amitri single - Barely Breathing, and love Revolvers era Beatle, you will love this CD." Maurice Jones, CEO Very Juicy Records

The Rocket
"Five O'Clock Somewhere , a virtually unknown band just might be the freshest thing coming out of Seattle. These guys come out from the gate with powerfully memorable songwriting, world class production value, and melodic guitar hooks."

4 out of 5 stars Solid record..........2007-03-06

The only problem is, a few fillers weigh the album down.
"Neither Can I", "Dime Store Rock", "Beggars and Hangers On" and "Back and Forth Again" are all killer tracks...

3 out of 5 stars A nice start for a great career for Slash.......2007-02-23

Slash's first venture outside GnR gives a great showcase for Slash's bluesy-rock guitar style, and demonstrates from the first song here that Slash was very limited in his old band. Note: the band is much better LIVE than on disc, but the disc is worth getting, no doubt!

4 out of 5 stars Had to get over the fact that this is no GNR.......2006-06-24

The first time i listened to this I couldn't get through the whole thing I disliked this very much I a now relize now why it's because it's not Guns N Roses just because some of the members are in it as in VR they do not sound like GNR get over that and there is some cool songs on here heavyer then GNR and probally VR but it's still cool. Also I think is as much a matt solo as slash in many ways matt has some amazing drumming here.

3 out of 5 stars Needs more Slash.......2006-03-10

When I bought this album, expectations were low to say the least after reading some unflattering comments about 'bargain-bin stuff'. However, this CD is good and very enjoyable. What detracts from it is the vocal work. Eric Dover is a screamer who makes Axl Rose sound delicate. What really mars the CD IMO is the endless repetition of choruses. At least half of the vocals could have been cleared to make room for the real thing - Slash, that's why you bought it, isn't it? Unfortunately, there are only a few solos where I was hoping for more, but there are still some excellent moments, particularly 'Neither can I' and 'Beggars and Hangers-on', which would have been one of the better tracks on Appetite for Destruction.

4 out of 5 stars The CD that should have been the last Guns N' Roses album.......2005-12-24

"It's Five O'Clock Somewhere"(1995).Slash's Snakepit's first album.

By the time the mid 1990's had arrived, even though Slash had pretty much proven himself to be the Eddie Van Halen of the late 80's and early 90's,things were not going well for him. While Guns N' Roses had done a great job at letting Slash become so famous,GN'R was quickly falling into seclusion, leaving Slash with very little to do. However, after Slash had recruited three of his former Guns N' Roses band members(Gilby Clarke,Matt Sorum, and Dizzy Reed),along with vocalist Eric Dover and Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez, his first post Guns N' Roses band(Slash's Snakepit)released their first record, entitled "It's Five O' Clock Somewhere". How did the CD meausure up? Read on for my review of this:

This album, while it may not be "Appetite For Destruction",is very easily the best album any member of Guns N' Roses released after leaving GN'R. It is an album consisted of blues music and a little bit of 80's and 90's rock, and when it was released,it did a good job at showing how good Slash could sound when he wasn't doing Guns N' Roses projects. This CD's opening track,"Neither Can I",does a great job at starting off slow and then getting really hard and suspenseful from beginning to end,"Beggers and Hangers-On" has a great Western sounding intro to it and does a good job at being a little bit "moody" during it's running time of lyrics, music, and singing, and there are several other fine moments on this record. I won't give away of all of them, but "Good To Be Alive","What Do You Want To Be",and "Doin' Fine" are good, feel good hard rock songs,"Take It Away" is a nice,"suspenseful" ballad, while this album's closing track,"Back and Forth Again",has really nice melodies to it and is a good way to close an album. Slash's guitar solos on this CD sound both blues and rock influenced and really good, and that, along with the great songwriting on this record,is what makes this album so good. It really is a shame that the material on here was never used for a Guns N' Roses album(note that the material on here was actually going to be on what was supposed to be Guns N' Roses' last studio album until Slash had a fight with Axl Rose, which resulted in GN'R not using the material on this CD),as it would have helped GN'R make a comeback from their dreaded and infamous punk rock cover album("The Spaghetti Incident"?)and given GN'R a new sound as well, which would have been a really good thing. Eric Dover's vocals on this record sound great, and Dover, along with Mike Inez, did a good job at helping Slash form sort of a new Guns N' Roses with a different band name, considering the fact that everyone from the line-up of Guns N' Roses on "The Spaghetti Incident?" is on this CD,with the exceptions of Axl Rose and Duff McKagan.

If you are a fan of Guns N' Roses and happen to really like Slash's guitar playing and songwriting, this CD is a must have. It was cool to see Slash do his own project aside from Guns N' Roses, and it is a shame that Slash's Snakepit are no longer around these days. In other words,if you like blues music,80's/90's rock, and Guns N' Roses, you are at the right location.
