Smooth jazz star Boney James's first album for Concord is loaded with guest contributors: old guard pros including Philip Bailey, George Duke, George Benson, and Wah Wah Watson; and young stalwarts including Faith Evans, Ann Nesby, Dwele, Esthero, and Christian Scott. You don't need to be told it's a sleekly produced affair, replete with real strings as well as synthesized ones and vocal choruses, and that it showcases James's candy-sweet sound on saxophones. But James, who produced the album, tilts more than usual toward contemporary R&B, with the Evans-sung "Gonna Get It" taking top honors. He also reaches into the Antonio Carlos Jobim songbook with "Waters of March," covered not long ago by Cassandra Wilson, and with Nesby doing the emoting, animates the Chuck Mangione ballad, "Soft," with rippling keyboards. In striving to expand his appeal, though, he doesn't sell his fans short. --Lloyd Sachs
Album Description

Wow! Boney has done it again........2007-07-15
I love this CD. He pairs up with various other artists in a little different sytle but it works. Having Boney and George Benson on the same track, is amazing and HYPNOTIC is my favorite cut. Absolutely a must for any smooth jazz listener.
Soulful journey........2007-05-26
Boney James makes late night music for adults to chill out too, and this album is no different and sees him in great form again. Well,I think this sax master just keeps getting better.
Whether your'e in the mood for.... luuuv... or driving down a busy motorway... turn up the vibes and chill, relax and your cares just float away on hearing that incredible and very recognizable sax !!
The mellow nature of his playing makes it seems as though the music is flowing, dancing... His notes are long and engaging and never shrill, so that they draw the listener in and invite him to sit for a while and relax.
He manages to vary the mood with each track - each one is incredible.
My favourite songs are " The Total Experience " featuring the keyboard/piano master George Duke , " Love Song " , " The Way She Walks " and the Brazilian bossa nova classic " Waters of March ".
You will adore the mellow saxaphone sound of Boney James : smooth, chilled and saxy!
Add the harmonic vocals of Ann Nesby ( of the group 'The Sounds of Blackness'), Faith Evans , Esthero, Philip Bailey and Dwele and here is the recipe for Boney's "piece de resistance".
Not a bad album but..........2007-05-20
if you happened to buy the six albums before this you gonna be a little disappointed. If you want him at his finest pick up Body Language and Sweet Thing.
Boney's finest work yet.......2007-05-19
Boney does it again with his first Concord release "Shine". Not only does it feature Boney's sensuous sax playing, but it does offer a bevy of guest artists such as George Duke, George Benson, even Ann Nesby (the grandma of American Idol finalist Paris Bennett). He sounds best on the tune "The Total Experience", which is heard on smooth jazz stations nationwide. I would certainly recommend this CD. Now if Boney would release a standards album a la Chris Botti, Maybe he can get Renee Olstead as a guest artist, or even Michael Buble.
Boney James Does it Again.......2007-05-12
This CD is one of Boney's finest. Being an avid Boney fan since Trust, I have gone to many Boney James concerts, most recently in March 07 at the Spreckels Theatre in San Diego, CA. Boney was magnificent! Listen to track number 2 and you will be awe struck. The entire CD is great, he has many great guest vocalists on this CD complimenting his magnificent saxophone playing. This is a must have CD, but nothing is like the real thing. You must see Boney James in concert. I have seen him at the Greek Theatre a couple of times, in the windy desert of Palmdale,CA outside at night and I have had the pleasure of meeting him in the airport and getting a super autographed photo. He is very humble and down to earth and one h*ll of a sax player.

On their second full-length recording, Australian retro-rockers Jet show they've got more tricks up their sleeve (they can, like, write songs and stuff!)--not to mention a bigger and better record collection--than most of their garage rock peers. Shine On displays swaggering but intelligent boogie rock à la Humble Pie, an ability to tear the roof off like their countrymen AC/DC, and Americana-thieving swagger rock that brings to mind the Rolling Stones. They do this rather unpretentiously; they are not pretending that anything they're doing is revolutionary or "new" in the slightest. The song titles themselves all have a ring of deja vu to them: "Bring It on Back," "Shine On, "Rip It Up," "Stand Up." Heard it all before? You bet. The thing is, every once in a while a rock band plugs into the Platonic ideal of rock & roll and actually gets it all totally right. Jet does this, and it makes them sound almost as original and exciting as the people they're stealing from. --Mike McGonigal
Album Description
Shine On not only fills a void for hungry rock fans but sets the bar for what today's rock bands can aspire to be. Jet flawlessly brings together classic rock influences with a modern rock edge.
Customer Reviews:
Second Album Shine On is a Charm by JET.......2007-07-17
This album is a great second album, really surpassing their first album, Get Born, in consistency. Yes, it is retro, it is fashionable, it is likeable and really, quite lovable. This album ROCKS and will quickly become a timeless classic album of rock ages. You can feel all the influences of the Beatles, Stones, and all those great bands from the 60's-70's. And yet, quite current and refreshing from this young Aussie Band. An album you will not tire of listening to. Really.
70's revisited.......2007-06-20
Jet remains the most successful 70's revivalist bands (Wolfmother is another up-and-comer) with bluesy guitars playing over huge, bombastic drums.
I didn't find this as immediately enjoyable as the debut, but it's not bad.
More Cowbell.......2007-04-23
Power chords, a backbeat so strong white boys can dance.
All that is missing is the cowbell.
Solid as rock.......2007-04-06
If you liked Get Born, its near impossible not to like Shine On. Jet doesn't take to many risks on this cd and keeps if safe, sticking to their retro rock style. This album is a little softer than their debut, and the soft ones shine bright, Shine On and Kings Horses are brilliant. Overall Shine On is pretty solid, but it feels as though it's missing something, some sort of progression or evolution maybe? But then again it just wouldn't be Jet.
Key tracks: Stand Up, Rip It Up, Holiday, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, Kings Horses, Come On Come On, and Shine On
A little Beatles, a little Supergrass, a little Stones........2007-03-24
What a great album from a some first-rate songwriters. My son turned me on to this group and I've got them going round and round and round in my car, my computer, the home stereo, the iPod.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful, but not my first choice.......2007-04-07
I believe this was the first recording of Elijah in English that used an "international" conductor and some international singers. Fruhbeck gives a good, dramatic sweep to the piece, with some wonderful dramatic moments. This is an old fashioned performance, with only a solo quartet, and if there is a semi-chorus, I can't tell the difference. This means that the soprano is the Widow, and an Angel, the mezzo the Angel and Queen Jezabel, etc. You really should have a libretto, but you don't get one at this price.
Fischer-Dieskau roughens up his voice for the role, and therein lies a problem. The voice spreads and his diction suffers because of it; that and his unidiomatic pronounciation, with far too many rolled "r"s. He does the drama well, but what works well in lieder works here less well on the large scale. Odd, given his success as on opera singer (check out his Iago), that here he frequently comes off blustery.
Dame Gwyneth Jones belies her reputation and gives a contolled, dramatic performance, using her "edge" to advantage in "Hear Ye, Israel". Gedda's diction is amazing, with exactly the right color for this literature, and projecting a little more blood than an English tenor.
Dame Janet Baker is my star in this performance. Dramatic, heart-rending when need be, and in wonderful voice. She'll chill your blood when she tells the people of Baal to "slaughter him, do what he hath done!".
And as for the people of Baal, the Philharmonia Chorus is wonderful. Incisive and dramatic, with beautiful tone. I could do without the trick of the boy choir for "Lift Thine Eyes", and I miss the small ensembles, but all in all a fine performance, and good recording, circa 1968.
First choice in English, Daniels/Terfel: better Elijah in Terfel, better recording, more authentic orchestra, small vocal ensembles (as per the score) but inferior women (including Fleming: beautiful tone, but where's her head?). In German, it's Sawallisch/Adam all the way.
But if you're singing Elijah, and have a score, this is a good choice.
THE BEST recording of the BEST oratorio ever..........2006-08-15
Okay, I'm gonna admit I'm biased- I first sung in the chorus of Elijah when I was 14 and it made a BIG impression on me!
This recording is in every way wonderful. Starting with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. He IS Elijah to me. His singing is perfection. He has amazing phrasing and his diction makes it possible to understand the lovely, inspired libretto to this heavenly music. There are so many pieces that are ephemeral, but a couple of my favorites are: #14, Lord God of Abraham and #37, For the Mountains shall Depart. Dieskau does a great job of what I think of as compassionate, heartfelt singing. His interpretation sounds like the voice of God himself. It has a quality of kindness and yet he sounds just as convincing reprimanding the people of Baal. He is the true highlight of this recording.
That said, the rest of the cast is wonderful as well. Gwyneth Jones has a lovely, silvery voice that has a clarion bell-like tone that rings over the large orchestra with ease. She has occasional "misfire" but is a consistent performer. Dame Janet Baker and Nicolai Gedda both perform at a consistently lovely level. The orchestra and chorus are both wonderful. #15, Cast thy Burden upon the Lord, #32 He that Shall Endure to the End, and #38 Then Did Elijah are all highlights.
All said, for me the main reason to get this recording is Dieskau's Elijah- after all, he's the main character. But don't forget the lovely music. This story is exciting and passionate and sacred all at the same time. For me, it's the best oratorio that has a moving story and great music too.
Too bad there are so few recordings of Elijah.......2006-07-03
This is a good recording of an oratorio that deserves more attention. The chorus and soloists are very good--I just wish Fischer-Diskau wouldn't slide around so much in singing the title part!

Eight releases, 14 No. 1 radio hits, top reputation as a live act--not bad work if you can get it. That's what the Newsboys have accomplished in 14 years, and the scope and breadth of their success is documented well on this 17-track hits collection. In songs like "Shine," "Take Me to Your Leader," "Spirit Thing," and "Step Up to the Microphone," the Newsboys magically melded a modern pop beat with a strong, spirit-filled message. The end results were endearing radio hits that sounded fresh, vibrant, and nonapologetic for their religious zeal. And that explains why these lads from Australia garner such a buzz in the Christian pop world. The Newsboys never met a pop hook they didn't like, a fact all too apparent when listening to this collection. But they do it so well. Longtime Newsboys fans will appreciate the remake of "God Is Not a Secret," featuring a blistering rap from DC Talk's Toby McKeehan. Three new tracks--"Joy," "Praises," and "Who?"--give listeners a hint of what's to come. --Michael Lyttle

I got all my favorite songs in one CD. Captain Crunch (Breakfast), Shine...Wooyoo!
It is a delight to just spin their hits!
Better than caffene to wake you up!!!!!.......2007-02-10
These guys are great: full of fun, full of faith, full of great music. In trying to keep up with my son's love of contemporary Christian music, I fell in love with the style of the "Newsboys" and bought this album. Yeah, their music is quirky and loud, but I'm not dead yet, so I like to have fun with my "tunes." This is soooo NOT "Rock of Ages," but soooo honors Jesus! It's guaranteed to get you smiling, tapping your feet, and banging your head in praise of God. And these are only some of the Newsboy's hits! Look around, there's a new album out called "GO" with the best song yet.
Shine.......2006-12-01
The Newsboys have got to be the BEST music group in the world. Phill (one of the Newsboys)has such a high vocie that in Blessed be your name I did not relize the high voice was Rebeca Saint James. Almost all the Newsboys come from austraila, but they are a whole bunch of different people God put on earth the give him glory and spread the good news.
Great Newsboys collection.......2006-11-19
I allways love newsboys but and the only reason why I did not give this CD five stars the collection fell a little short becasue it did not have any of their songs from love, liberty disco (this CD came out in 1999 the newsboys greatest hits came out in 2000). There were good songs on the love, liberty disco CD for example Beautiful sound or the self title song love, liberty disco. I had to make my own best of news boys cd to have these songs inclued.
Perfect Introduction to a Top Christian Band.......2006-11-04
The Newsboys have been one of the top Christian artists in the last 10 years. A greatest hits collection should serve as a thorough introduction to what a band is all about, and this collection does this as well as any you will hear. Their early work is represented as well, but wisely this album focuses on their best three albums, 1995's "Going Public", 1996's "Take Me To Your Leader" and 1998's "Step Up To The Microphone". If you have heard a song or two of the Newsboys and want to know more about their sound, this collection is an outstanding way to start. The Newsboys' lyrics and topics have always been trendy, clever and challenging - particularly the super-cool "Reality" - and they carry a message everyone needs to hear.

This is not the first collection of David Gray's "pre-success" recordings, but it is the best one. Unlike many such collections of early works by noted artists, you're not seeing the artist's abilities in their infant state--each of these 15 songs is already great. The Mancunian musician's performing abilities were well developed by the time he first recorded in the early '90s; one might even argue that they sound best in the often stripped-down, more raw state on display here. The songs themselves, however, have definitely matured since Gray hit the alt-adult-contemporary big time with the electronica-tinged White Ladder in 2000; such songs as "Wisdom" and "Birds Without Wings" do show the marks of other singer-songers (notably Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan). These days, of course, David Gray is himself often used as an adjective, to describe all the other scruffy-bearded blue-eyed songsters reaching for the sensitive crooner's crown. --Mike McGonigal
Customer Reviews:
Why are you considering buying this album?.......2007-07-01
David Grey's early work is a treasure trove of brilliance. Some otherwise good performers put out hit-and-miss albums, and it's best to wait for the anthologies to grab the good tracks. Not here. The albums this anthology draws from are all stunning, from the first track to the last.
I'm not a DG fanatic; I'm just saying they are good. Very very good. So please, do youself a huge favor, and go pick up "A Century Ends", "Sell, Sell, Sell", and "Flesh". You're already here on Amazon, so go on. Consider it an investment in your soul, and you'll save shipping costs to boot. Because, after you hear these songs, you're just going to want to come back and hear all the tracks you're missing, like "Gathering Dust" and "Let the Truth Sting".
So buy this album if you must, but consider yourself warned: You'll love it.
Shining Before Babylon.......2007-05-17
This English singer-songwriter took a while to catch on in America, but he had released several acclaimed albums and EPs prior to achieving success in the U.S. This release is a compilation of the best tracks from these early British albums, and while these albums are now available themselves in the U.S., I get the feeling that this album is a pretty effective representation of the best efforts of those previous releases. Also, these tracks are relatively unadorned compared to those on Gray's recent releases, so the actual songs come through quite strongly in these recordings. Standout tracks: "Late Night Radio", "Everytime", "Debauchery", and the title track of his debut album, "A Century Ends".
Best of the Best.......2007-04-03
I used to have a mixtape of my favorite David Gray songs -- my "Best of." This CD is nearly an identical mix of that tape. These are the best of the early years. They are the best of David Gray. Usually, on a "Best of" compilation, there are always a few question marks in the eyes of fans that already have all the songs, but this one doesn't have any. One flawless CD.

Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

turned off!.......2007-01-15
Bought this CD after reading the rave reviews. Not what I look for in music. This group seems to be more about sex appeal than music. More about production than real music--one can barely notice that there is a string quartet playing. Could only stand to listen to this once-could find nothing of interest. One heck of a photo shoot, though. SOmeone must have had a field day with that. This CD seems to be more for the sake of some sexy pictures than its music. A real turn-off.
Bond Shines Another Day.......2006-06-11
Fans only had to wait two years for Bond to punch out another Classical/Pop/Dance album. The finished product is some of the string quartet's best work. With the return of violins, a viola, and a cello, these instruments provided the basis of Bond's Classical music sound. But to acheive the full sound of Bond, the electronic instrumention for Pop/Dance music returned as well. This time around, Bond dove further into the Classical genre and arranged pieces to match their own sound. With a name like Bond, the string quartet also performed their version of a James Bond Theme entitled "Bond On Bond", and it landed them a spot to the score and soundtrack for the film The World Is Not Enough. With the release of this remarkable record, it was clear that Bond and their new form of Classical music would not diminish.
Stand out tracks include:
"Allegretto"
"Shine"
"Fuego"
"Speed"
"Gypsy Rhapsady"
"Bond On Bond"
A Good Band.......2006-01-05
It is a good party music. All are very talented individuals. Everyone has their own taste of music, and Bond is mine.
Shine On!.......2005-06-02
This is the album that I really liked. Although I downloaded it, I also play this one nonstop. I love the whole CD, and that's rare for me!
The album is liked so much in my house that my mother and father take it from me--and I recently had to make copies of the CD so they can play their own!
"Shine" is a great addition to your collection if you love Bond, no doubt about it.
Does it come with a scratch and sniff?.......2005-04-15
Read my review of Lara St. John's "Re: Bach" album and substitute "Bond" where it says "Lara St. John."

Not a Bad Song on This Album.......2007-07-14
I bought this album back in, well, I don't remember when, but it was a very long time ago. Since it was vinyl, it has been sitting in a box in my closet for the better part of 30 years.
I have wanted to listen to it on numerous occasions since then. Unfortunately everything, including my music, is now on CD and "It'll Shine" was not available on CD. In order to listen to it, I would have had to pull out my old turntable, find a place to put the turntable in my current audio system, and hook it up. A real pain in the arse. So, the album stayed where it was, in the closet.
As soon as I saw "It'll Shine When It Shines" was available on CD, I bought it. Oh, the joy!! Nearly brought tears to my eyes. By the end of the first song, "You Made it Right", I was back in full Daredevil mode. "Jackie Blue", arguably their most recoginizable commercial hit, was as pure and purty as ever. Such memories!
If you like you country with a pinch of Bluegrass, a helpin of folk, and a big dollip of rock, you can't go wrong with this album. If I could give it 10 stars I would!
Great CD Reissue From An Underrated Band.......2007-07-03
IT'LL SHINE WHEN IT SHINES is a great CD reissue of a 1974 album by Missouri's Ozark Mountain Daredevils, a Southern rock band who weren't quite in the same league as the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, or the Outlaws, but who was? These guys were, nevertheless, still a great band with a unique sense of humor, and, as on the predecessor and the followup, most of the songs here feature lots of harmonica and guitar (ironically, only the big hit, "Jackie Blue", doesn't). It's great that this album has been reissued, as this band were among the worst-served by their record company. But I guess that when you support stern justice in a high profile kidnapping case (as these guys did regarding the Elizabeth Smart case), everybody's desperate to reissue your out-of-print albums on CD. If you get this CD, the self-titled debut, and THE CAR OVER THE LAKE ALBUM, you'll have everything you need by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.
The Ozark's, 'It'll Shine When It Shines'.......2006-03-04
This is the Ozark's brilliant 2nd album. The playing and muscianship is second to none with perfect timing. The harmonies of the group are up there with CSN&Y. For me there is only one song which I am a bit complacent about and that is Jackie Blue. It is the more populist of all the songs and at the time got a lot of air play on radio which probably explains my lack of enthusiasm for it. All the other tracks are unique and faultless. If you love this brand of country rock which is infused with bluegrass and roots derivitives, then you have to add this to your collection.
Great 70s Sound.......2005-09-30
After listening to this CD, I felt like I was a teenager again. The music is still good today. I loaned it to some younger friends who enjoyed it also.
Keep on Shining.......2003-12-24
The ozarks remain one of country rocks best kept secrets. Although the New Musical Express here in the UK described them as 'One of the finest bands of the '70's in any field' they are not well known - but they should be.
Hailing from Springfield, Missouri the band are amongst the most eclectic in rock, almost every band member wrote material, sang and played an array of instruments. Their harmonies certainly equalled the Eagles, and their sound incompassed 'down at home' bluegrass, FM rock, melodic folk country, but also more experimental arrangements such as 'Colorado Song' on their debut release.
'It'll shine' is the ozarks second offering and it's great to get it on CD. There was a trend for bands in the early 70's to get back to the country, well the ozarks never really left it recording the material at a pre Civil War farmhouse with Glynn Johns producing.
There is a real joy on this disc, of a band in tune with nature and each other playing to their strengths. Everyone will know Larry Lee's 'Jackie Blue' which was a big hit for the band and is good straight pop rock, but not entirely representative of the rest of the material, although 'Look Away' and 'tidal wave' show the band can rock.
For me it's the lighter and rootsy material that make it. 'You made it right' with its southern gospel feel, 'Lowlands' with its magnificant harmonies and the slightly zany 'EE Lawson' typical of steve Cash's work.
The disc closes with the title track leaving on a sentimental, and uplifting note. This disc is waiting to be discovered by any serious music fan - give it a try.

Great compilation - and that's just the first half........2005-09-14
I first got this on cassette in the summer of '94 and listened to it every day, drawn by its thematic range and compositional depth. And that was just side-one.
Elfman pioneered the sound that drives today's movie adaptations of comic-books and darker-themed children's stories. Side-One kicks things off with a rollicking, hyper-cartoonish theme from the first Pee-Wee movie - the one where Pee-Wee searches for his beloved bike. Elfman's theme contains layers of different rides - on tightropes, highways, in the middle of a NASCAR rally - which rudely yet melodically crash into each other.
The Batman entry actually contains several pieces - the opening credits, the extended sequence in the cathedral and the climax - which show Batman's darkened extreme at its "Frank Miller" best. (Dir. Tim Burton couldn't sustain the mood in the next sequel, and the franchise took a turn towards the camp of the TV series with the next 2 movies.)
The theme for "Dick Tracy" is perhaps the most romantic on this disc, a quality that surpasses the theme's comic-book origins, but ends on an ironic note that's pure Elfman.
"Beetlejuice" (opening & closing credits) gives Elfman's childish ID a chance to stretch its legs, or in this case, slam-dance.
"Nightbreed" is an enigma wrapped in a dark mystery, and that's just Elfman's score. Elfman's work on this movie is as good as the movie wasn't, having a more powerful narrative than the script - easily the best track on the entire disc, one likely to exceed the movie in its dose of chills.
"Darkman" doesn't quite rise to the occasion, though the score may be hobbled by the movie itself, which seldom surpassed one of the many "Batman" clones of the early 1990's. "Darkman" (the movie, I mean) excelled as a parody of many comicbook staples (the wronged hero, the relentless villain, the scientific breakthrough with just one flaw), but not enough to escape being largely anonymous. Within those constraints, it's still a moving if scary piece.
When is Elfman not like Elfman? When he was in the mid-late `80's and scored "Back to School" (A Rodney Dangerfield vehicle) and "Midnight Run". Horns in "School" bring it closer to Elfman's over-the-top style, while "Run" sounds like a love-theme for the run-down, out-of-the-way parts of America that seldom appear in Elfman-movies. "Run" is a fun score for a fun movie - it's nothing like Elfman's previous work but it perfectly captures the on-the-road-without-a-map craziness of the movie.
To this day, I don't know why I never ventured to Side-two, but it's irrelevant. Even half this disc is worth it
The best of Elfman!!!.......2005-09-05
I was obsessed about getting this CD right from when I heard about it. I found it at the library and was so excited about it, and it didn't let me down. In fact, it was a lot better than I expected. It's a fun and creepy (strange mix, but it really works!) collection of Danny Elfman's film and television soundtracks. The first track, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, is probably my favorite. Also, I really like Batman and Wisdom. Batman is creepy and dark, and Wisdom is just weird, in the best possible way.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes film music, or everyone who is even the tiniest bit an Elfman fan. It's amazing!
Great Collection, A LIttle Too Eclectic.......2003-08-19
You should be able to tell from the movies and TV shows listed here whether or not you'd be interested in this collection. It's a little too eclectic for my tastes (hence only 4 stars) but better than volume 2. I think thatthe miscellaneous collected ites here along with the previously unreleased stuff should make this worth buying. Especially if you're a fan of Elfman's movie soundtrack work.
What Great Music.......2003-05-11
I fell in love with the music of Danny Elfman when Beetlejuice came out. There was something different about the music that he made. When Edward Scissorhands, and then Nightmare Before Christmas - I knew this man was a musical master. Its the verbal form of surrealism.
super.......2003-04-17
What a great CD. Danny's music is so original and inventive. this CD contains his pre 90's quirky, gothic music. it's all very well written and beautifully orchestrated. batman and darkman contain some really excellent long, dark, gothic cues that really take u away from reality. in my opinion no one, apart from howard shore, is as inventive and original as danny in the world of filmmusic. he far surpasses the repetitive works of williams or horner. buy this, and volume two, and keep supporting one of the greatest film composers of all time.ohh...and buy fellowship of the ring and two towers by howard shore....amazing work!
