Album Description
With No.1 and Top 10 singles already under their belts, and a third hit set to repeat their success, The Shapeshifters have forged a musical path beyond many of their contemporaries. Their debut artist album, Sound Advice will firmly dispel the myth that dance bands can't write songs, with a depth of song-writing and further exploration of musical styles that far exceeds their earlier promise, it could very well make 2006 their year. 12 tracks. EMI.

This group is awesome!!! .......2006-07-03
I just listened to the whole CD and I love it!!! The sounds of Lola's Theme are just awesome, love singing to it on the car on my way home, and always makes me smile and seat dance. Back to basics is another one of my favorites as well as Incredible.
This whole CD is great, if you liked Lola's Theme or any of the other singles is a deffinitely must to buy it :D.
A Thank You For The Great Advice!.......2006-06-30
Well what can I say!? It is about time this album was released... ever since I heard "Lola's Theme", I couldn't believe my ears. Was it the new Basement Jaxx single? Was it by Silicone Soul? No. The groundbreaking "Lola's Theme" was in fact by two London-based DJs Simon Marlin and Max Reich who made up The Shapeshifters. And then came "Back To Basics" and I thought to myself, when are these guys actually gonna release an album!? I want more from where this came from.
Released March this year, Sound Advice is The Shapeshifters massive debut. Think of Sound Advice as The Shapeshifters' contribution to dance music as was Keane's contribution to rock with Hopes & Fears. That's just how powerful this album is.
From opener, "You Never Know" until the last track, "Instead of Falling", Sound Advice never disappoints for a split second. Apart from the aforementioned tracks, the other two singles off this album, the ever-funky "Incredible" and the catchy "Sensitivity", are of course extremely impressive. But don't worry, I assure you every single track on this album is single-worthy... there just isn't a single filler in here.
For fans of funky house, this album is not to be missed. Get it right now and start enjoying this masterpiece of an album as soon as you can.
A solid debut.......2006-04-01
Alright, if you are reading this review it's because you've stumbled upon the Shapeshifter's debut album, while taking a glance around to see what this site has to offer. I am going to assume, also, that you've at least heard their HUGE summer '04 smash, Lola's Theme. Perhaps not, perhaps you know them from their song Back To Basics, under the moniker Shape:UK. Or perhaps, even more unlikely, you know them by their current amazing single, Incredible. Whatever the reasons, here we both are.
Now, you look at the price of this CD and wonder, should I? Is it worth it? I daresay it is, but perhaps that isn't enough for you. Why, that you're even reading this review as opposed to processing the transaction this very second is all the proof I need that you need some convincing. So I shall start at the beginning.
The Shapeshifters have almost molded the scene to suit them, much like Madonna does to the pop scene. House music wouldn't be where it is today without the instant success of Lola's Theme, and that's saying a lot. They continue to be a breath of fresh air, providing something new and refreshing amid a stale scene. This album is no exception.
From the getgo, this album sets out to prove that there is so much more to the dance, and subsequently, house, genre than meets the eye or ear. Take the opening track, You Never Know. Most listeners would expect to open up to a dancefloor smash, their booty shaking almost immediately after pressing "play". But what do the Shapeshifters do? They give us a pop track, slower with beautiful vocals, lush synths and bass, and a great lyrical hook. And what is it about? Wow, she says, "It might be the last time you close your eyes." Take a chance, take a risk. What an amazing message, the very first song.
But don't worry, the latest dance craze is but a song away, in the form of the string & guitar-driven Sensitivity. About half the album has actual vocals, and while those tracks are interesting enough, it is tracks like these that make the album shine. You'll find yourself singing along in no time, bopping around wherever you are, regardless of what you are doing. Lola's Theme and Incredible follow (check my other reviews for an in-depth of Incredible), and then on to the track Really Feel. This song has a smidgeon of vocals, but it is more of a showcase of their music rather than their lyrical skills, or the skills of their amazing vocalists, Cookie, Jenna Gibbons, Kelly Marie, and an assortment of others. Over Me is the next song, and it starts off beautifully with a simple drum beat, shortly joined with a beautiful string arrangement and some effects. This is another great slower, more pop-oriented track. The great thing is that all of these songs would sound great if remixed (properly, that is), but sound amazing even without any.
The album follows in that general progression, although the next few tracks are mainly instrumental, with some slower vocal tracks bringing up the end of the album. All in all, this album is like a pleasant beach vacation, the perfect mood to a perfect day.
And heed the advice given in "You Never Know". Take a risk and pick this up.

This is one of EMIs wonderful content protected CDs. Make sure you read exactly what this is compatible with. If you are using an iPod (and who isn't?), you will only be able to install this into iTunes if you also have a Mac. It's a shame, its a great CD.

Shape: UK?.......2006-10-11
For those that don't know this is "Shapeshifters" debut album. For whatever reason they've retitled themselves as "Shape: UK" for their American domestic release. Anyway, the albums pretty good, though I wish they'd included the original full non-vox version of "Lola's Theme" rather than the 5 minute vocal version included here. Anyone who picked up "Junior Jack" or "Tim Deluxe"'s albums will for the most part enjoy this album. Some of the vocals border on a little cheesey but for the most part the albums grooves are pretty well infectious & enjoyable. Kinda poppy but it's at least worth a spin. If you look up "Sound Advice" under "Shapeshifters" you'll find alot more reviews if mine isn't detailed enough.

Buyer beware. This is NOT an audio CD, but an instructional book with an accompanying CD. I, unfortunately, found this out the hard way, but I figured I'd let future buyers know before making the mistake I did.

what the....?...?.?...?.........2004-04-07
k, this is probably the most artistic thing i've ever heard from grouch. after hearing it one time thru, i'm locking it in a drawer in an envelope the reads "listen on mushrooms". i loved it but i think grouch has transcended past the label of MC, as shown by his speaking in tounges on the microphone starting on "Different Everybodys." just look at the track name. it's really proper english format with slang thrown in in a Yoda kinda way. he even says he ate mushrooms in there, so it's gonna be beyond your normal comprehension, you could only hope to understand this, as i hope to when i open up that envelope...........
poop.......2003-10-21
smoke a bowl needs to go blow grouch. we all know he wants to. just because this is grouch doesnt mean it is good. this is trash. those noises you call symphony beats sounds like a trumpet blasting out of my a*s. the songs he "rips backwards" should be listened to backwards abd maybe it will sound ok. if you are a true hip hop fan, or even a grouch fan, you will understand that there is good music and bad music, this is bad music.
u must not like the grouch if you don't like this album.......2003-10-09
yes this ablum is very different from previous grouch stuff but it still kicks ass. whoever said that this album sucks is a dumbass and shouldn't be allowed to listen to grouch in the frist place. there are a lot of spmphony beats in this and a few of the tracks grouch raps them backwards. it takes a few listeinings to get used to but once you hear it a few times it will grow on you. This is one of my favorite Cd's and your grouch collection would not be complete without this.
One of the best emcees simply falls flat. what the............2003-10-08
Grouch is the best legends rapper and to me- second best rapper today(behind Canibus). we all know he can rip tracks apart with his heart-filled,emotional lyrics.
This whole cd was a waste of studio time. poor production(only the second track was banging- really great!) expiremental? just like the "love cd" from outkast- too expiremental. He should stick to his usual simple production technique that we've all grown to appreciate. sometimes (honestly) barely.
i hope Grouch doesn't see this as a diss directed towards him. we all know he gets down.
save your money- buy grouch's other cd's. trust me- i made this mistake.
maybe 2 1/2 stars...............2003-09-25
i was dissapointed by this album. it is grouch, but with a style like you have never heard him before. dont get me wrong, i love grouch's music and i own every album, but he was trying something new this time and i just didnt like it.
instead of having melodic beats like those on grouchs previous albums, daddy kev lays down more fast-paced beats. some of them are just strange. after listening to this you will know what i mean. grouch also sped up his flow on this. at times he almost sounds like Dose One, just mumbling and uttering words. on top of these things, the longest out of 11 tracks is only 2 minutes 42 seconds. seems like grouch rushed through this.
maybe i am wrong and i am guessing a lot of people will disagree with me, but i wish i hadnt bought this cd. if you are expecting another f*ck the dumb or dont talk to me, dont pick this up. it seems more like expirimental hip hop than LL hip hop. sorry grouch fans
