Editorial Reviews Kyler's brand new album, "A Flower Grows in Stone", includes "Higher Ground" and "Dead End" as well as 12 other powerful songs. Other highlights include the inspiring "Something So Beautiful" from which the title was taken: "somehow you defied all reason and rhyme/ youre like a flower that grows in stone" and the sexy-grooving love song "Snowed In": "we got snowed in/ in our little love den on the third floor in Brooklyn." The album was released late July, and Kyler will tour nationally to support the record throughout fall 2003. Produced by her long-time collaborator, Richard Oliver Furch (Kyler's album "If the World Would Just End" 2000, and EP "How Many Angels?" 2001), this collection of songs finds Kyler coming into her own as a songwriter of both depth and pop rock appeal, and her voice walks the line between strength and beauty more gracefully than ever before. Inspired by the music of Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, Pete Yorn, and U2, Furch's production combines the best of modern pop rock with Kyler's organic songwriting, giving the songs an urgent and relevant edge. Kyler currently lives and performs in NYC though shes rarely home for long. Armed with her acoustic guitar and a good road atlas, Kyler played well over 100 shows a year in 2001 and 2002 with her tours taking her from Atlanta, GA to Nashville, TN to Boston, MA and everywhere in between on the east coast as well as from San Francisco to LA on the west coast. Over the course of her travels she has shared the stage with artists such as Melissa Etheridge, Meredith Brooks, Liz Phair, Shannon Curfman, Emm Gryner, Pete Francis, Josh Joplin and Mary Lou Lord. In addition to her own records, Kyler was featured with her song "Stronger" on the February 2002 Epic/Sony Records release, SHEKINAH 13 ARTISTS, a compilation of female Berklee College of Music alums which received rave reviews from national media sources including Billboard, Downbeat, the Associated Press, the Boston Globe, VH1 and the Oxygen Cable Network. In 2000 she was nominated for a Boston Music Award, her songs have received national college airplay and been featured on multiple daytime TV programs. In October 2001 Kyler was interviewed on Bostons top commercial station Magic 106.7 for their Exceptional Women program and her song "These Four Walls" was aired.
About the Artist
What is truly unforgettable about singer-songwriter Kyler is her ability to peel back all the layers, holding nothing back. Kyler takes aim straight at the heart as she wraps her sultry, molasses-thick voice around memorable pop melodies and lyrics that are at once raw, simple and meaningful. Born and raised amidst the beauty and southern charm of North Carolina, Kyler recently took top honors as the winner of the 2002 North Carolina Songwriters Competition for her songs "Higher Ground", a graceful ballad about finding a way to live with loss and the rocker "Dead End," an urgent message to a loved one running away from their pain.

This is definitly her best work. Each song on this album is so thoughtfully created and has spoken to me about different times in my life. It's definitly a must buy. I go through weeks where I never take it out of my cd player and I always come back to it. I never tire of her beautiful voice and writing.
I definitly recommend this cd and I also recommend trying to attend a live show. They're amazing also.
