The Light-Fingered Feeling of Sushirobo

Editorial Reviews
Alternative Press
"Lyrics with haiku economy and lethal wit."

Amplifier
"Quirky, addictive, caffeinated angle-pop from another dimension."

Album Description
Inspired by the art-punk bands of the late ‘70s/early ‘80s as well as more modern electronic experimentation, Seattle’s Sushirobo creates retro futuristic, jet-fueled music for analog robots.

The band’s sophomore full-length, The Light-Fingered Feeling of Sushirobo, takes listeners on a headphone joy ride shimmering with pixilated, beeping, sweeping and soaring stabs of sound the likes of which you’ve never heard come from a guitar (although that’s exactly where they’re coming from).

Working within the format of a traditional four-piece rock outfit, these Seattleites concoct otherworldly ditties glazed with the candy sheen of psychedelic post-punk pioneers Pere Ubu and Wire coupled with the juicy hooks of early-era Brainiac and modern-day heroes The Dismemberment Plan and Enon.

If you are an indie rock fan, like myself, you will love Sushirobo's latest CD. This one does not have those annoying guitar solos and the boredom of other popular indie rock albums. This one is not self-absorbed and full of "feelings." Also it does not have all those experimental sounds that come from a 14-year-olds laptop. In addition, this is a great album for dancing. The sounds are very clear and focus on minimalism, which is nice after a long day.

There really isn't much to be said about this album, only that it's sort of like Seattle's solution to Radiohead. It's a bit more poppy, but not in a bad way. "Light Fingered Feeling..." is excellent indie-noise-rock, that's completely new and different. The vocals aren't flawless, but work well with the intriguing lyrical content. The music itself is expansive and oddly fascinating. My only complaint is that it's not nearly long enough, clocking in a bit over 30 minutes. It's a pretty big let-down when you realize the CD just ended, but no worries. It's the type of thing you can repeat.
