Raul Malo's velvety tenor is warm and dirty in all the right ways. As the primary songwriter and frontman for the Mavericks and as a member of all-star band Los Super Seven, Malo's soulful croon has bent round the blue notes of country and spread itself thickly yet pliantly between and on top of the polyrhythms of Latin roots music. A tremendous and far-reaching effort, Today (Malo's solo debut) showcases not only what a genre-blending writer and powerful singer he is, but makes clear just how connected Malo is in his delivery and phrasing, both in Spanish and in English. There's something behind and under every syllable the man utters, from the excitable title cut to "It Takes Two to Tango," a frisky duet with pal and vocal powerhouse in her own right Shelby Lynne. Today, a full-on exploration of roots and rhythm, rocks righteously and rolls with balanced restraint and abandon. --Paige La Grone

Raul Malo is extremely talented with Gods gift of reaching to ones inner musical communication of romancing through vocal tones.
I love it........2007-04-09
I love this album so much...have had it for years and it still never ceases to amaze me. Hard to pick a favorite song here...from the very authentic Cuban sound of "De Ti Me Olvidare" and "No Me Preguntes Tanto" to the soaring ballad "Are We Almost There" and the very energetic "I Said I Love You" this cd will have you smiling and dancing whether you want to or not.

Best living singer.......2006-12-31
Raul Malo could sing the alphabet, and I'd like it. I'm a diehard Elvis fan, and to me Raul Malo has the best voice of any living singer.
This album is great. It shows the range of Raul's vocal talent. I previewed it on Itunes and came here to buy it.
Can't Sit Still Listening to This CD!!.......2006-12-16
This CD is full of Cuban beat by Raul. I believe his long stint with the Mavericks allowed him to determine the course that he wanted to take with his music. Not to be branded or limited to the country music but to expand his horizons and really show his talent. His past two albums "Today" and this one "You're Only Lonely" shows amazing versitility and talent. His mellow vocalizations continue to amaze me whether it is in a Cuban song/ballad or a classic such as "At Last".
It does not matter if you are gringo, mexican, cuban, or other hispanic persuation, I highly recommend this CD AND seeing this man in concert. He shows great humor and a very appreciative manor in his performances.

Taking the cue for its visual conception from sources as diverse as British cartoonist Gerald Scarfe and the antic, rubbery surrealism of Tex Avery's Warner Bros. Cartoons of the 30's, this madcap caper from French writer/director Sylvain Chomet is one of the most delightfully skewed animated films in recent memory. Scoring such a thorough original is no easy task, but composer/musician Benoit Charest has more than risen to the occasion. Charest manages to evoke the loopy musical spirit of legendary Warner and Disney animation legend Carl Stalling in an entirely new context, fusing the score's snappy, predominantly le hot jazz mindset with everything from hip-hop and Bach (credited her as "Jean Sebastien") to the Italian opera farrago "Cieco Cieco Barber" and 1960s proto-surf-rock of "Pa Pa Pa Palavas." But that conceptual stew isn't the least of Charest's delightful surprises, as he giddily infuses it with his own Django-esque guitar stylings and a hodge-podge of "found" rhythmic instruments that include bicycle wheels, refrigerator shelves and a vacuum cleaner; surely there must be a kitchen sink buried in the mix somewhere. The result is a score that uses tradition as but a launching pad for one of the most rewarding and delightfully original animated scores in recent memory. -- Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Top notch film.......2007-05-07
I always know a film is great when I replay scenes in my mind and view the world through the lens of the film for many days later. The animation was terrific. The scenes were artistic in their rendering and the limited dialogue was true to the tradition of European animation. The sound track has kept me humming and singing the tunes ever since. Definitely five stars in my book.
Triplets of Belleville - One of the Very Best.......2006-06-30
Wonderful movie...the music was outstanding and the characters believable. The animation was like watching a well drawn picture come to life.
I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys seeing the fruits of very creative people.
"Allez les filles...!".......2005-10-18
If you haven't seen the movie, I would advise you do - it's one of the best animated films to come out in a long while, and a fine example that traditional methods of animation are not dead. If you haven't, then one thing you should know is that barely any of it is told in words - therefore, the soundtrack became very important, and what we got was one heck of a soundtrack.
Listening to it alone, I'm immediately reminded of the soundtrack for the Japanese film "Metropolis," which is heavy in jazz. The main theme (presented in both English and French) is the finest example of this, and has to be one of the catchiest themes I've ever heard. (took a month just to get the dang thing out of my head) You'll find several versions of it on this CD, some in its pure form (including a "demo" version) and in its use as background music. But don't worry, there's more than that. You've got stand-on-their-own tracks including "Attila Marcel," (which made me feel like an American soldier in a 1940's French cafe) the two versions of the French mafia theme, a piano version of a Bach piece, and the lighthearted "Cieco Cieco Barber."
Overall the soundtrack is well worth the purchase. If you enjoyed the movie, by all means add this to your collection as soon as possible.
The Triplets of Belleville.......2005-09-12
This a terrible story - boring at best. I am sorry I wasted my time watching it.
Delicious!.......2005-05-08
As well as the animated movie, the soundtrack is just wonderful. From the Oscar nominated "Belleville Rendez-vous" (versions in French and English by M) to Madame Souza's horrible performance (which is not listed, but you can listen after the last song), a CD you have to own!

On his third solo album, Colma, Buckethead has refined his fluid, impressively articulate guitar style, exacting a precise and occasionally jazzy tone from his instrument. Encompassing a tremendous range in both tempo and expression, Buckethead is an ideal guitar hero for the year 2000. Melodic, psychotic, and with loads of flash, he has all the burning technique of folks like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, but remains steadfastly oblivious to any real commercial considerations. Accompanied by bassist Bill Laswell, drummer Brain (Primus), DJ Disc, and cellist Terry Untalan, Buckethead embraces a plaintive, near-ambient sound structure while occasionally unleashing torrid spasms and blinding guitar runs. Alternating between gentle, haunting lyricism and meta-metal explorations, Buckethead engages in instrumental guitar warfare like no other. --Mitch Myers
Customer Reviews:
One extreme side of Buckethea'd range of musical ability.......2007-07-22
I read a review by someone that was fond of a lot of what Buckethead does, and praised him most congradulatory with one word- versatile. Buckethead's work defines the word, and this can be proven with the range of his music, stepping into many different genres over less than a decade.
Colma is his fourth release, not to be mistaken by his fifth which envelopes the polar opposite of this album. Colma can most easily be "compared" and related to elevator music or music you hear when you want to fall asleep, but to say that would do injustice to what Bucekthead created here.
Like with most album reviews, I tend to point out some of the superior tracks, and where the album may lack. But I have never listened to a more consistently apealing album than Colma. As far as I'm concerned, Colma is one long gorgeous melody of rythmic beauty and excellence in song-writing.
Understandably, it is hard for me to recommend this to Buckethead fans who are used to his heavier offerings. I can't announce Buckethead's talent and incredible music easily with Colma, and I can't attract the average listener now with "For Mom" or "Ghost." I truly think that special open type of listener only can enjoy and truly appreciate what Buckethead has created with his fourth offering.
I can'y say too much more about the album itself, except that I sugguest going at it with an open mind. And I know that line is cliche, but I adore Colma, and I adore Buckethead's riffier and more "metal" albums, but Colma has a niche of its own. One that is filled with wonder and appeal, a niche that may possibly supercede the latter work of his, and remain most prevelant in making this generation realize, with truth, that Buckethead may possibly be the next greatest guitarist to whim the world under his beautiful melodies of pain, happiness, achievement, and oddities.
Mellow Bucket.......2007-07-04
This was the first Buckethead CD I bought, based on the videos I saw of him on Youtube, shredding like a master. I was very surprised when I heard it. It's very mellow, but beautifully so. I'm a guitarist and I love guitar music. This stayed in my car CD player for 3 weeks - I played it over and over. It's addictive, like Bucket's other work, but in a soothing, pensive way. Highly recommended, but don't expect anything heavy or metal. It's more like one of Phil Keaggy's better CD's - highly musical and very pleasing.
A great album, one of his best.......2007-06-27
This is one of 2 buckethead acoustic albums that i know of (the other is electric tears, also great). I don't think there is a bad song on this cd, so it really is worthwhile purchasing it. Most of the music is him on an acoustic guitar, with various musicians in the backing role.
I wish i could give it 4.5 stars, but i am only given a choice of integers. The reason that i didn't give it 5 was that it could use a little more variety in choice of songs.
Ambient and heartful.......2007-06-09
This album really captures a great deal of mood and portrays an immense measure of pathos and ethos. Try listening to it as you walk in a cemetery on a foggy day or watching the dawn rise over the ocean...pretty incredible. As a musician I find quite a bit of inspiration in works like this. This is now my 8th album by Buckethead. Give it a listen and then put his work to use or let it inspire you.
Wouldn't expect this from such a guitarist, oh wait, yes I would.......2007-03-26
Buckethead - a 6'6 Mike Myers mask, KFC bucket wearing, madman! This guy can practically play any genre of music and be good at it. (see Hog Bitch Stomp, Soothsayer, For Mom, Sketches of Spain, Nun Chuka Kata, etc) Unlike some of Buckethead's music, this album is very mellow and mostly acoustic. There are no soundclips (which seem to be a favorite of his) but yet heartful music. One interesting thing is that these songs blend together, creating one sweet song. Tracks that are definantly worth hearing are For Mom, Big Sur Moon, Machete, and Whitewash.

This gorgeous pair of African princesses are the latest artists with Mother Continent roots--including Baaba Maal, Ray Lema, Youssou N'Dour, Salif Keita, Zap Mama, and Angelique Kidjo--to infuse French music with the soul it would otherwise lack. Unlike those who cut their deep African funk with the cloying sugar of French pop, Helene and Celia Faussart, sisters from Bordeaux, don't give it all up to La Belle France. In clear, warmly intimate, and, yes, Parisian-sexy voices, they snake in and out of each other's way, often coming together to build glorious harmonies, always singing universally uplifting messages [translations in the CD booklet, except for their American-sounding English in "Sugar Cane"]. It's all set in clean-edged, ultrahip, sensitively calibrated tracks that draw on lush soul, steamy funk, beat-driven hip-hop and cool, flowing jazz. But this album is no pastiche of sounds looking to gobble up many demographics. Recorded in France and London, Princesses Nubiennes plays like an extended single--better yet, like a dreamy musical journey through the sounds of the modern-day African diaspora. --Elena Oumano

Empress voices.......2007-05-08
I love these girls! I really dig the tracks on this album. I loved hearing the version of 'Taboo' in French. Sade still holds my heart on this track, but to hear it in French is real nice! This album is a must, if you want to purchase one of Les Nubians cds, this is the one! Their vibe is amazing!
For the price that it is, you've to get it!
Fantastic CD.......2007-01-13
Rich, original, authentic music. Meaningful lyrics. Good musicians. These sisters nailed it with this CD.
LES NUBIANS TAKE US ON A WONDERFUL, FLOATING MUSICAL TRIP!!.......2006-03-28
Five Incredible Stars!! Les Nubians, Helene and Celia Faussart from Bordeau France, sing mainly in French but, trust me, their music renders language completely inconsequential. You'll fall in love with their music anyway. Their voices are ethereal and sultry without being overtly sensuous, hip without being assertive. Perfect complements to each other as they spin solos, counterpoints, and dazzling unison phrases. Somewhat of a Sade-like spell is cast on some of their songs. As a matter of fact "Tabou" is a riff off of the Sade version of "Sweetest Taboo". Trust me, the French language never sounded so good !!
The beautiful music floats and spins on wonderful stop-time pedal points and is truly mesmerizing. The 'Pieces De Resistance' are the breathtaking "Makeda", "Tabou", "Princesse Nubienne", and "Si Je T'Avais Ecoute". This is groove music which is perfect for "Quiet Storm"-like smooth radio stations, but it is also works for any other listening occasion. Blessed with wonderful voices, it is just a pure pleasure to listen to these young ladies beguiling us, like they have been beguiling France and the rest of Europe for quite a while now. Highly recommended. Five Wonderful Stars!!
(This review is based on a 15 track ITunes download.)
One of my Favorites.......2005-12-04
I originally purchased this CD several years back after hearing Les Nubiens on a Putumayo compilation. It's still one of my favorites. The production is amazing. It's got a very modern hip vibe with strong jazz and African influences. Their version of Sade's Sweetest Taboo (Tabou) is absolutely amazing.
Mon sweetest tabou!.......2005-10-03
I spent my summer this year ('05) listening to these two lovely ladies. A lovely summer indeed.
Not only are Celia and Helene great with words, but heck can they sing! ...And furthermore, can they mix music styles! This is African, jazz, soul, pop, hip-hop, and much more all mixed together to create their creative Nubian sound. I can best describe it as "Sade meets Erykah Badu".
The lyrics on this album are quite well-written. 'Babela', one of my most favorite Nubian songs provides such great encouragement for anyone trying to reach a goal in life. I put it on whenever the going gets tough! My only disappointment is that I hadn't discovered this Nubian secret any sooner.
Thank you ladies for writing such great music.
A wonderful debut album!

Ottmar Liebert's most famous, if not most accomplished, effort gave a new genre its title, the New Age market a new champion, and flamenco purists--like Paco de Lucia, who despite a thank-you on the album, has called Liebert's music "worthless"--a new punching bag. All of which is a little beside the point; Liebert's rhythms may not be complex compas, but he perfectly captures the laid-back, open-space feel of his adopted home of Santa Fe with simple two-chord progressions and piquant nylon-string guitar lines that remain memorable long after listening. The indelible "Heart Still Beating" and the elegaic "Moon over Trees" bear this out. Liebert would up his technical and compositional ante considerably on Sola Para Ti and Borrasca, but there's still something undeniably balmy about this low-key debut--replete with lush New Agey synthesizer washes--that begs one to light the scented votive candles and get cozy. --James Rotondi

Catch this one!.......2007-06-09
Ottmar Liebert has contributed notably to a second air of the flamenco a heartfelt and moving Spanish rhthym so enjoyed for many people aropund the world.
This album encloses what we might call the real spirit of the flamenco in its different moods. On the contrary, I think this is a gratyfying album, plenty of inspiration and vibrant emotions.
music from my childhood dance years...........2007-06-04
NOVEAU FLAMENCO, by Ottmar Liebert, is an album that brings back memories of jazz dance recitals. We used to warm up to NOVEAU FLAMENCO, particularly the first track, "Barcelona Nights." Liebert has been equally criticized and proclaimed for his laid back approach to "nouveau flamenco." While flamenco purists will most definitely have some cutting remarks to make about this, his debut album, how sleepy and "plugged in" it sounds, others who are just looking for relaxing music that they don't have to think too hard about will definitely enjoy it. For me, this European born, Santa Fe-based musician balances his own jazzy licks with flamenco inspired guitar work, and it works well as back-up music. Would I shell out thirty dollars to see him live? Probably not. Yet, I definitely can't dislike NOUVEAU FLAMENCO's range of songs. While some are peppy, others are great if you are trying to get a good night's sleep. There's nothing wrong with that!

I love this CD, I could listen to it all day long. Wonderful flamenco, makes me feel like I am on vacation in Cancun. Great to listen to while vacuuming - really brightens the mood around the house. If you like fabulous guitar flamenco music you will love this.
Truly inspiring !!!.......2006-05-24
I have listened and studied this album over and over again it truly is a work of art. I found it so inspiring that after years and years of bouncing around bands and different musical styles I found my one true love, modern Flamenco. My CD "Changes" would have never been conceived if not for the incredible influence of Ottmar. And for that I say thank you. I hope that everyone will perchance this CD and find the Joy that I have.

This compilation project's official title is already long enough, but for true accuracy it should read, The Best of Ottmar Liebert's First Two Recordings, Volume 1. Barcelona Nights strings together the more upbeat and animated selections from his two earliest recordings, Nouveau Flamenco (his famed debut) and Borrasca (plus one track, "Festival," from Poets and Angels). The package serves as the first installment in a two-disc series; the subsequent Surrender to Love will patch together romantically inclined selections of those early 1990s recordings. It's the same music, but with different sequencing and different packaging. As such, it offers graceful and pleasant listening, though the similarity in tempos gives the disc a slightly homogenous feel. Many like-minded guitarists have traveled the path that Liebert originally blazed, and Barcelona Nights offers an appealing reminder of the qualities that elicited such a huge initial reception: nimble, articulate fingerwork; charming, uncomplicated melodies; and just enough flamenco authenticity to convince maturing pop listeners that they had discovered something exotic. Highlights include the beckoning cheer of the well-known title track, and the earnest, uplifting energy of another early hit, "Heart Still/Beating." --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Great High Octave Guitar Jazz.......2006-08-24
I have been a fan of Ottmar for a long time. This album is very good. Every tune is great to listen to. A great sound for all guitar music lovers.
If you are looking for new sounds come and get it!.......2006-06-12
Among the most creative and imaginative musicians in the last generations, Liebert must be included in the most representative lists. His creativeness and above all his powerful vision in what it concerns to the necessary oxygen the Flamenco needed, was intuited by him and so dedicated all his energies in search of its renovation, achieving a remarkable success.
To my mind the most interesting tracks of this valuable album are: Heart still beating, Barcelona nights, Santa Fe, Isla del sol, Bullfighter's dream and La Rosa Negra, but there is not any minor track.
If you really are searching for new inspiration motives and creative sounds, this album is a must for you.
Very nice music, Ottmar is very talented!.......2004-02-09
I don't understand why people so closed mind, this is new millenium, think out of the box, there is no right or wrong about music, there's only about good or bad, who really care about so called "real" Flamenco, as long as easy listening, and creative, I think Liebert is very talented. I like "Barcelona Nights" very much, I play it in my car, at home, never tired of listening. Keep up your good work, Liebert, play more new song!
Don't bother........2004-02-01
Disappointing all the way. You can call Mr. Leibert a sort of `Yanni' of the guitar. Need I say more?
Cross-pollination angers Nationalists.......2003-09-30
Oh please, all these people who are so worried about this genre blending with their sacred "Flamenco." Some of the best Flamenco-inspired music is stuff like this and the work of Steve Stevens, artists who think outside the box. Music is flexible and evolving; what you call it or label it doesn't matter. Nobody seems to mind that Ricky Martin or Enrique Igelsias represent "Spanish" or "Latin" pop music. To me, Alberto Iglesias would be the real deal!
In my estimation, Flamenco has always been an art form influenced by many different forces and subject to change and evolution. Why is there such a nationalistic pride among many of its fans that ends up precluding such visionaries as Liebert, who have devoted their lives to making wonderful music, from taking part? Is it because he is not 100% Spanish?
The same exclusionary mentality that wants to limit Flamenco works well in Bible music in the South. The irony is that a Latin talent is often more welcome in other genres than a Gringo's is to Flamenco. The entire genre of Flamenco suffers much more from exclusionary thinking than it does from cross-pollination. How sad that such a beautiful art form is tainted by control freaks. Those of you who bash the likes of Liebert bash one who is intensely accomplished and pays such homage and utmost respect (not to mention commercial attention and longevity) to the art form. Very sad, indeed. You should be bashing Ricky and Enrique first!
Those of you who are so close-minded (You're probably ignoring me because of my Gringo status, anyway) should check out a really cool blue grass band I know. You'll be made to feel much more welcome than Liebert has in the wild world of Flamenco "purists."
This album is a wonderful collection of soulful, technically masterful sounds from a true visionary who pays the highest tribute to Spanish guitar by infusing it with fresh blood and vouchsafing its wonders to the masses. And it's better quality Flamenco than lots of other stuff on the market! Oh, sweet blasphemy! This is no dilettante - this man lives and breathes his music.
Other genres should only be so lucky!

Wow!!!.......2007-02-07
All I can really say is Wow! This blew me away, with all its shredding and little excerpts of weird characters talking about "head cheese", but dont get me wrong, he puts in a lot of complex music, its not all fast guitar playing, like in "Who me?" when it sounds like he's crying during the slow playing. and there's techno like in "Nunchaka Kata". Overall great for the kids, if your kids are sick twisted freaks who love great rock-funk music. Highly recommended.
Second rate, forgettable guitarist... WAY WAY OVERRATED!!!.......2006-07-17
You deluded people must be on crack AND antidepressants! I purchased and listened to this CD with high hopes, given some of the enthusiastically positive reviews here. Aside from the masturbatory pseudo-rapping and ridiculous and infantile chicken-klucking sound effects, and other miscellaneous and ridiculous utterances, there are some guitar moments where 'Buckethead' shows he can somewhat shred, but it ultimately all sounds the same and quite gimmicky. Sure he can play fast, but he is most certainly NOT a world-class, STYLISTIC technical player like Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Alex Lifeson, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi, Ritchie Blackmore, Glenn Tipton, Dave Murray, Akira Takasaki, Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Romeo, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Rik Emmett, Brian May, etc. etc., just to name a few greats that 'blow away' KFC-head. In fact, Buckethead is a cheesy, second-rate guitarist who pales in comparison to the world's masters! I'm sorry, but he is BORING. He plays nothing that hasn't been played or tried before. Don't waste your money or time. My copy is going to end up in my local retailer's 'bargain bin'! And with good reason.
WOW!!!!!.......2006-02-25
Edgy but beautiful . My first Buckethead and she's a bute!! If you like guitar gods such as Steve Morse, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai etc than this is definitely a cd to wet yourself upon. Enjoy the listen ..... I did again again and again!!!
no finer bucket..........2006-02-11
buckethead's best work is when he feels free to be himself and not obliged to consider sounding like someone else, and on this CD he is totally at his best; perhaps having claypool around does not hurt either. i have listened carefully to most of his work and this i believe is head and shoulders above the rest. one has to determine what it is they seek from an artist and in buckethead's case it is his raw fingernumbing bunkerbeat and great turnpike sound. i appreciate his ability to be very tasteful and even classical, but someone who calls himself buckethead has to consider his own invention above all else and that's what he's done on this his finest work, in my book, to date! This CD will not leave you twitching for full throttle because it's all there.
Buckethead's Electric Opus.......2005-12-22
While Colma may have shown the best of Bucket's softer side, Monsters and Robots takes the cake for Buckethead's electric work. And what an album it is. Allow me to take a song-by-song review:
1.) Jump Man- Great song, an effervescent opener that reall gets the blood flowing. Bootsy cracks me up on this track, and all of Buckethead's trademark shredding is in place. 5/5
2.) Stick Pit- Awesome follow-up to Jump Man, Stick Pit continues the shredfest with its high-pitched sampling and non-stop guitar. 5/5
3.) The Ballad Of Buckethead- The "single" from the album, this is really more of a Les Claypool song. Whereas Les sits off to the side on most tracks such as Stick Pit, Revenge of the Double Man, and Nun Chuka Kata, his bass is clearly the centerpoint of this tune. The lyrics are excellent, the bass and drums booming, and Bucket's chilling guitar adds greatly to the song, although minimally- that is, until the solo kicks in. 5/5
4.) Sow Thistle- This song includes Bootsy talking over a loop, while Buckethead adds some creepy horror movie guitar. This is an example of Buckethead's techno side, with shredding of course. Not for everyone, definitely for me though. 5/5
5.) Revenge Of The Double Man- This song is one of my favorites on the record: Les and Brain hold the groove while Buckethead tears. PhonosycographDISK, also known as DJ Disc, adds a great scratch solo over the top of this tune. Buckethead then proceeds to rip his guitar in half (or so it sounds) on another amazing guitar solo. 5/5
6.) Night Of The Slunk- An acoustic, laid-back version of the groove from Jump Man. Buckethead then picks up the slack with some electric guitar, and really adds some interesting licks and solos amidst the acoustic setting. Out of nowhere come insane guitar patches, only to recede back into darkness to let the acoustic guitar shine through again. A wah-wah solo closes the tune. Quite a good track indeed. 5/5
7.) Who Me?- Up until now, the album has been pretty much going strong and running wild. Here, Buckethead slows things down with an acoustic interlude. However, gentle as it may be, menacing it remains, as in the background, there seems to be the sounds of something terrible happening...unless thats just Buckethead breathing through his mask. You be the judge. 5/5
8.) Jowls- My favorite song on here. Jowls is the best example of a great Buckethead song- Tremendous grooves, insane ripping, loops, horror-movie licks, and absolutely terrifying vocals and guitar patches. Can one ask for more from a Buckethead tune? 5/5
9.) The Shape Vs. Buckethead- Buckethead and Michael Myers face off- Double M with his giant blade, Bucket with his guitar pyrotechnics. Bootsy and Ovi Wey narrate the battle, and PhotosychographDISK adds sound effects. The winner?...listen to find out. 5/5
10.) Stun Operator- If you were on a rollercoaster from hell in Buckethead's theme park Bucketheadland, this song would be playing as gravity took you to your demise. Needless to say, a creepy and excellent song. 5/5
11.) Scapula- TechnoBucket. I'd list this under "songs that might not be for everyone" along with The Shape Vs. Bucket and Sow Thistle. This song includes a very dance floor-type guitar pattern, with soloing over the top of it. A great tune, and an excellent addition to the album. Still, a very strange Buckethead tune nonetheless. 5/5
12.) Nun Chuka Kata- There is only one way to end a Buckethead album, and that is to shred until there is nothing left to give. Nun Chuka Kata encapsulates what is left to give from Buckethead, as he serves it to us with a one-two punch. The album ends on a great note as Buckethead launches into a full-on solo that truly makes the album complete. 5/5
Yes, I realize I gave every song a perfect rating. But that is because they all contribute to, in my opinion, Buckethead's finest effort thus far. Although parts aren't for everyone, if you are truly a Bucket fan, you will definitely enjoy every second of music on here, like me. Beginners out there, buy this and Colma to start, and then make your call. Veteran fans, add this to your collection and make your Buckethead variety loads better. Skeptics, pick this up and prove yourselves wrong.

When former Jefferson Starship guitarist Craig Chaquico (cha-KEY-so) reinvented himself as a pop instrumentalist in 1993 (the year he released Acoustic Highway, his solo debut), he brought the still-fledgling contemporary instrumental genre one of its freshest sounds in years. Chaquico blended skillful pop-rock-blues songcraft with studio savvy to produce a lush, layered acoustic sound so full-bodied that at times he seemed to be leading a guitar choir. His initial hit, the title track from that first disc (and the concluding piece on this best-of package), remains one of the most cheerfully infectious tunes in this category. Other selections on Panorama, a retrospective that samples his first five recordings, also capture the hip, lyrical joyfulness of Chaquico's early work ("Native Tongue," "Sacred Ground," "Return of the Eagle"), where new melodic ideas might pop up at any point in the composition. Elements of smooth jazz began surfacing on his third disc, A Thousand Pictures, and that trend has persisted ever since, draining some of the organic, free-spirited spark from Chaquico's music. The two new tunes found on this disc, "Café Carnival" (a Latin big-band production) and "Beyond Words," suggest that pattern still prevails, and while Chaquico can make smooth jazz sound pretty good (try "Sweet Talk"), that easy-listening glaze is an unnecessary crutch for such an imaginative player. Nevertheless, Panorama is an attractive package; just a touch too sweet in places. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Craig Chaquico's best is best!.......2007-04-19
This CD is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I was familiar with several of the songs before I ordered the CD, but there were other beautiful songs on the CD that have made me a true fan. While I recognized Chaquico as having a mellow Spanish-guitar style, I really got a sense of Native American tones in the music on this CD - a really well-developed theme and a great sound. This CD was WELL worth the price!
Soothing.......2007-02-19
This is an excellent CD to fall asleep with. I love it & even my children ask that I put it on at night. It is so peaceful.
Magnificent Talent.......2006-08-28
I am no expert, by any means, on acoustic guitar music. I just know what I like. I LOVE this album. The music weaves and meanders into your soul. Soothing at times then building to a crescendo of ecstacy. You can almost feel the strings vibrating as Craig applies his talent. I can listen to it over and over.
Ambrosia for the Soul.......2005-08-18
There isn't a track on the CD that doesn't inspire your soul in some way. Whether being touched by some of the darker, brooding music or the livelier, uplifting sounds. Sometimes artists should just let their music come through and forget about lyrics. Panorama is a perfect example of what other musicians should strive for. This is an excellent CD and the guitar is fantastic.
Panorama is the most to say about this album !!!.......2005-02-10
Panorama is the most to say about this album because this album is like a mental vision of a series of events!Since his 1993 debut Acoustic Highway, Craig Chaquico's creative blending of snappy guitar melodies and subtle Native American textures has contributed something of a spiritual nature to smooth jazz. The twelve "greatest hits" tracks of Panorama: The Best of Craig Chaquico bear out this evolution. Earlier material like the soundscape-heavy "Gathering of the Tribes"(my favorite song) and the full of energy "Native Tongue" let his guitar lead the way."Cafe Carnival" is a latin influenced song that makes you wanna dance after you hear it. "Sweet Talk" and "Autumn Blue" added the blistering tenor counterpoint of Richard Elliot's saxophone. This CD is a time travel bridge to Craig Chaquico's days with Starship. All I can say is this album rocks and I always have this album next to me in my car and I NEVER get tired of listening to it.My favorite song from this CD is "Gathering of the Tribes".This is because I found my inner connection listening to that song. When listening to this CD, all my problems and troubles go away.I am in debt to you Craig, for putting a smile on my face when listening to your music......

Soundtracks are a mixed bag at best. Some are little more than an assortment of pieces, but others hang together effectively on their own, like this one. The idea of Chinese music--both popular and operatic--juxtaposed with the sounds of Nat King Cole performing Latin music might seem bizarre, but it works beautifully, sustaining a lush, romantic mood created both by the strings and the '40s Chinese music, itself a tinkling Hollywood pastiche. But as atmospheric as all this is, one track stands out above the others: "Blue," actually a version of the classic "St. James' Infirmary," takes on another dimension in Chinese hands. While familiar but completely alien at the same time, the slithering Asian sonorities mesh perfectly with the African-American form to create something evocative but with a sadness that goes beyond blues. The movie is of a time and place; the soundtrack is of a mood and yearning. Listen at night, with someone you love close by. --Chris Nickson
Customer Reviews:
Awsome Instrumental Music.......2007-03-09
The soundtrack is really good; I didn't like some of the songs (the Chinese ones) but there are only 3 in the whole CD. The instrumental music is awesome making the soundtrack an average good.
The Bing Crosby songs are very good but...........2006-07-17
In my opinion it`s the Bing Crosby-songs that makes this album worth buying, but these songs can be bought on compilations. The rest of the music is for people with special interest for backgroundmusic in films.
AMAZING! Hauntingly beautiful..........2006-05-09
So beautiful and emotional, it makes you want to cry! The score for the film and the collection of music together is absolutely breathtaking....
A great soundtrack for a lover of WKW films.......2006-03-22
I loved the film, so I love the soundtrack, which brings back memories of the film. WKW uses period music to evoke the emotions and feel of the time period of the film.
as gorgeous as the film!.......2006-02-11
Film soundtracks are often disappointing---there are songs from the movie that are not on the CD, songs on the CD that were not in the film, different versions of songs on the CD than in the film, etc.
Happily, this soundtrack is absolutely faithful to the film, and it is masterfully interwoven with dialogue excerpts from the film which complement and build on the music instead of being obtrusive. I don't understand a word of Chinese but still enjoyed listening to the actors' voices, and also liked the bits of traditional Chinese music as well. There are some tracks that I don't remember from the film but they are not throw-away filler in any way, just beautiful extras in the same vein.

Album Description
Dramatic flamenco guitar, ambient synthesizer tonalities, and moody, wordless vocals evoke a windswept plain, or the ocean at dusk. It's music as mood. Mood as music. It's the aural atmospher that will soon be providing the soundtrack to your life. It is B-Tribe.
Customer Reviews:
Lives up to it's title "Spiritual, Spiritual".......2007-03-15
I've been a huge fan of B-Tribe ever since their first album "Fiesta Fatal" and although "Spiritual, Spiritual" is a departure from their previous work, it's absolutely beautiful. The pace is slower, yet it moves with the grace of angels wings and it's warmth is that of candlelight. I've had this cd for several years now and I never tire of listening to it. "Sketches of St. Antoni" brings visions of a cathedral lit by candlelight as doves fly past in a flutter of wings and "Matador De Sa Pena" captures the graceful moves of a matador and bull in the ring. I couldn't be more pleased with this cd and I would recommend this to long time B-Tribe fans and newcomers as well.
Breathtaking.......2006-07-17
This is the second album I own from B-Tribe. From start to finish it revives my tired soul, takes me to places in my mind that I've never been to before. You will never be the same after you experience this music..."She Moves through the Fair" is my favorite track off this CD. It moves my soul!!!
A must have for Yoga and Driving.......2006-05-16
If you are thinking of purchasing a B Tribe CD, and you are on the fence about which one to get, think no further. Spiritual Spiritual provides a constant flow of beautiful music that leaves the ears completely fulfilled. I personally feel that this is a much stronger album than 5. I will never get sick of this CD, and I will put it in heavy rotation in my yoga classes. Definitely a great CD for peaceful driving during a bad commute.
Spiritual, Spiritual.......2005-10-03
What a great CD. Each cut on this CD tells a different story and never repeats. Kick back with your favorite, listen with an open mind and see where this CD takes you. Hold on because it will transport you into a dimension like no other CD can. Enjoy the ride!
