The Ladies have done more than lie in bed the way Brian Wilson did; they've spent some quality sandbox time mastering the intricacies of catchy pop records, hooks and all. Sounding at times like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young after a week in the Caribbean, the Ladies mix a dash of rap with a pop backbeat on "One Week," while "It's All Been Done" is classic 1960s Top 40, right down to the "woo-hoo-hoo" backing vocals. The lyrics are the hidden joy on this record, with lines like "I love you more than I did the week before I discovered alcohol" and the male voice singing about tying his pantyhose around his neck. The songs are well crafted and the production flushes out the Ladies' hidden musical talents, resulting in their best effort since Gordon. --Katie Sigler --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
Entertainment Weekly
Stunt's real pleasures are undercut by frenetic kitchen-sink arrangements and arch lyrics that suck the life from the tunes. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

BNL.......2007-03-09
If you are a BNL fan then I need say no more.
This group is one of the most creative I have heard since the Beatles and I am a huge Beatles fan.
BNL's music and lyrics are original, fresh, and addictive.
BNL.......2007-01-10
This is a delayed response for feedback...ive had this quite awhile and all other BNL's masterful hits! I cant say enough about these guys...they are a wonderful band to see in person...and im like way too into them to have any one say otherwise....They songs are unique and the harmony refreshing....much talent here that is underplayed....maybe they keep a low key on purpose....Stir it up a bit...you gotta give a listen!!
A smart , funny album.......2006-09-16
Everyone knows that "One Week" is a great song; there is a reason it was a massive hit. And "It's All Been Done" is a lot of fun too. These first two tracks are the first two singles. Maybe that would be enough to buy the album, but that is just the beginning.
Every time I listen, I annoint a different song my favorite. "Alcohol" is a blast with its rollickingly drunken phrasing. "Never is Enough" never fails to crack me up with lyrics like "You get your PhD/How happy you will be/When you get a job at Wendy's/And are honored with Employee of the Month". "Some Fantastic" is filled with whimsy and I love the goofy subtitle "(Ivory and Ivory)".
Basically, while I don't love every song equally ("Call and Answer" has been skipped before), there isn't a real dog amongst them. This is a great album to start your BNL collection. Trust me, buy this and you'll be looking to buy all the others (a good idea in my book - and don't miss them live!)
Naked Stunts Rock.......2006-06-10
It was finally in 1998, that the Candian band Barenaked Ladies released their breakthrough record: STUNT. They caught the public's, radio's, and movie soundtrack industries' ears. The band was continuing their performance of light Pop/Rock with a slight Swing feel. Their sound was umistakenly what the public wanted to hear. Even artist "Weird Al" Yankovic did a parody of Barenaked Ladies' "One Week", and the song also landed itself a spot as part of the soundtrack to the film 10 Things I Hate About You. The track "It's All Been Done" landed a soundtrack spot for the film "Drive Me Crazy". All of the tracks rock and over all this is a very good record. It is easy to hear why Barenaked Ladies finally hit it big with this album.
Best album I've heard by them.......2006-02-08
With songs like "Alcohol", "Leave" and hits like "One week" and "It's All Been Down", you can't go wrong. Although "When You Dream" seems a little off balance with the rest of the album, songs like "Never Is Enough" blend funny lyrics with great instrumentals. This is one of the few albums I can listen to all the way through.

A vibrant tribute to MGM's legendary confluence of brains, talent, hard work, ambition--and dare we say it?--massive egos, Singin' in the Rain long ago took its rightful place among the first rank of the studio's dizzying catalog of film musicals. This double-disc, 46-track 50th-anniversary edition features all of the film's familiar songs, as well as numerous outtakes and extended versions, many culled directly from the film's original recording masters. Its second disc also chronicles the film's clever--if studio imposed--self-referential musical gambit of recycling a slate of Arthur Freed/Nacio Herb Brown songs from Metro's first decade by including 14 of the originals, including performances by Jeanette McDonald, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, and Freed himself. Featuring a dozen previously unreleased recordings and an illustrated booklet containing the insightful reminiscences of the film's original writers, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, it's the ultimate musical companion to one of cinema's magical, enduring masterpieces. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
the perfect movie.......2007-03-10
My old Gene did it: the perfect movie, the perfect american history, the perfect music. Some people think musicals are "B" movies. I say them: look about the dream, the performance, the music.
Who can say what is beatiful? Look at faces of Gene and Stan during the shooting on the set: whole concentration and attention for everything.
This is a unique moment in their story, and in the story of cinema.
Unforgettable.
I LOVE MY FAVORITE SONG, AND THANKS TO THIS CD I CAN LISTEN TO IT ALL DAY LONG!!.......2007-01-28
I love Singin' in the Rain. It was the movie that made me like musicals, not those simple, mellow movies like South Pacific and the Sound of Music, but REAL musicals, with people like Fred Astaire or Eleanor Powell tapping their hearts out, or great singers like Frances Langford or Dick Powell putting over a song like they mean it.The Singin' in the Rain 2disc special edition introduced me to my favorite movie, the Broadway Melody of 1936, the MOST AMAZING MOVIE EVER! So I was so glad when my parents got me the soundtrack to Singin' in the Rain, and besides the music of the 1951 versions of the Nacio Herb Brown/Arthur Freed, there are also the original versions of the songs in their original movies. I am so glad that Rhino put the duet of Robert Taylor and June Knight singing I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin' on this CD set! It's my favorite song, and now I can listen to it! Hooray!! It's the best song EVER!! There's also vocals of Charles King singing the Broadway Melody, which is great! And many more, like Bing Crosby, Frances Langford, Jeanette MacDonald, and other great singers I can't think of right now. This CD set is great, the sound is nice and un-staticy (mostly), there are 30-plus songs, and the price is phenomenal. I love my favorite song, and now I can listen to it all day long!! Yay! :)
Wonderful Soundtrack to a Wonderful Movie.......2006-06-16
Yes, this is it--the first real musical I ever saw. Okay, I saw "Wizard of Oz" and "The Sound of Music", and I love both of those musicals dearly. I had even seen "My Fair Lady." I thought musicals were all like those. Until this one. I had never seen such dancing. And this CD causes me to relive the joy of the musical each time I listen to it. Complete with the tap sounds. I love that they included even the deleted songs. Now we just need a DVD that has all the deleted scenes in context. But the studio probably threw all those away. Oh well, our imaginations can take care of what is missing.
Great CD.......2006-03-20
This is a great CD of music for your family to listen to. Our family enjoys it very much.
musical memories.......2006-03-14
I enjoyed this CD very much, as I remember seeing the movie years ago. I grew up watching MGM musicals and this was one of the best. I loved all of the wonderful songs that came from this movie. Great sound on this CD.

Wow.......2004-11-23
If you like Hill's "A Beautiful Day" recording from 2002, you will love "The Day The World Stood Still." It features the same rhythm section of Hill, Scott Colley, and Nasheet Waits as found on "A Beautiful Day" along with a line-up of six Danish wind players. The whole ensemble sounds very cohesive and comfortable, allowing Hill's beautifully intrepid compositions to fully achieve their brilliance. The recording quality is excellent- the best live jazz recording I've heard in a long time. Colley's bass, which I found to be very undermixed on "A Beautiful Day", comes through especially clear. Check it out- this one's special.

Solid Trio Jazz.......2006-03-19
I had a piano teacher who used to rail against modern pianists for playing too high and for grabbing too many notes. "They want to stuff every damn tension on every damn chord," he used to grumble. "Just keep it simple!" He'd like Kasper Villaume.
He was right, of course. Pianists emulate Bill Evans and they try to lather every chord with spice and richness, and it sounds like mud. What you want to do instead is to grab only the two or three notes that you really mean, and sell them. Kasper Villaume has got that locked. He doesn't play anything "just because," and the result is solidly old-school. It's a great record.
He's backed up by Jesper Bodilsen on bass and Jeff "Tain" Watts on drums. American writers always focus on Tain because he's the only guy they know, and that's a shame because Bodilsen ranks with Vinding and Lundgaard as European bassists who are real heavyweights, guys that every American writer should know about. And because Villaume leaves plenty of space in his playing, all three players drive this album -- which is smart, because these guys are some of the most dynamic performers on their respective instruments, and if you're going to put propellers on a boat then you might as well put it in the water.

'Breeze' says, worldjazzpercfusionists need this!.......2003-03-16
This is some of the finest emotion-soaked, expressive MUSIC that I've had the chance to add to my collection in quite some time. Disc 1, for me, flows from one track to the next as if it were one entire piece of music, stunning. Disc 2 is a nice surprise for experiencing the multi-faceted styles of Mazur's tasty musical excursions. Marilyn's approach to percussion, voice, composition and her next-to-perfect selection of musician line-up is captured here like a fine gem. I recall catching two memorable Marilyn Mazur performances in Copenhagen, Denmark, one prior to and then one directly following her work with Miles Davis. To see/hear her live is like watching a sound scientist as she is sculpting the moment. The 2 disc recording is not only an indication as to why Mazur was recipient of the 2001 JAZZPAR award, it is also one of the finest qualities in 'live' recording that I have heard to date. Anyone who enjoys various genres of expressive music formats; world/jazz/percussion/fusion & more, needs to own "all the birds". Oh yes, quite clever, environment-friendly packaging as well.
