Side Street Cafe
Editorial Reviews
From the Artist
Thank you for taking the time to check out my CD. I'm really proud of this work. All the tracks are a little bit different in style and texture. I had a great time making this and I know you'll have a great time listening to it. I picked my personal favorite for a sample here, but everyone who's heard it seems to have a different favorite song.
About the Artist
Mike Germano plays alternative singer/songwriter music that aims at an adult contemporary audience creating music that includes elements of jazz, rock, and acoustic. His voice is smooth and articulate and ranges from baritone to tenor. The well played guitar parts tend to be finger style or syncopated rhythms with a penchant for "jazz chords". The melodies are simple, strong and memorable and define the songs.

Album Description
Side Street Cafe is a multi-genre project by Mike Germano that features seventeen songs of various styles and instrumentation. Do you know those wonderful cozy little places that you find in travel books as alternatives to the big chain hotels? This album takes you on that kind of a musical journey off the beaten path to a special place called the Side Street Cafe.
The ambience is friendly and familiar, everything is made from scratch and the coffee's piping hot, and the twists and surprises keep coming for the entire experience. At seventeen songs, this almost seems like a double album, but several of the songs are short and served as appetizers between the main courses.
The songs on this album are all presented as items on the cafe menu and each has it's own distinctive flavor and style. If you're used to the typical album these days where all eight or ten songs sound exactly the same, well, this just isn't that kind of place. A some point through, you'll stop trying to guess what style and flavor the next song will be and just relax and let it take you along.
Mike Germano has a smooth and articulate voice that melts like butter over the blended set of dishes that this album has to offer. The crafty guitar work and other instruments are a unique blend of acoustic, rock, jazz, and alternative music with syncopated rhythms and run the gamut from solo acoustic guitar to full band arrangements and everything in between. There's sure to be something on the menu to suit everyone's taste. The album ends with a rich and delicious dessert track. You'll feel so full and satisfied after sampling all the items on the menu that you'll just want to sit back for a while to savor it.
This is one cafe you'll be sure to visit again and again.

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

a talent deserving wider recognition.......2004-01-20
He plays assorted stringed instruments and also assumed the vocal duties. What is apparently clear after listening to this consistently fine album of originals is the level of playing of musicians. An old-fashioned feel can be felt all through out the disc even if he plunks his guitar that owes much to c&w and rock and jazz. His vocals is like most songwriters whose voice grow on you because of the simplicity and directness of their storytelling. His voice can do baritone and tenor but opts for the lower registers most times. He also peppers his album with guitar etudes and asides to give musical space to the succeeding song. The album has a nice cover of a typically Southern road side cafe that is this inch of decay but maintains a degree of glory. His cover art is fresh and down-home. And although most people don't notice production notes anymore, I am happy to report that it was well-thought of and is not prone to the abstractionist art that is usually preferred by upcoming artists in their debut albums. And lastly and this is probably trivial, this disc is best played while driving preferably a convertible. Or when indoors, it cries to be played in the mid-afternoon.
Jazz-flavored Adult Contemporary.......2003-07-22
Side Street Cafe is a taste of the old-fashioned, 50s-style crooning you don't hear much of anymore. Everything about this CD is lush, from Germano's smooth vocal to the use of cello, piano, and brushes on the percussion instruments. Even the sad love songs (and there are many) sound romantic with such elegant presentation. We get some short instrumental samples between longer tracks, interludes before Germano tries a different flavor in the next song - swirling in a little country feel or maybe a Latin rhythm.
