Throughout her 25-year career, Céline Dion has always been filled with great pride and love regarding her French-Canadian heritage, yet in all her years of performing--since her debut as a songwriter at the age of 12--she has never put out an official French Greatest Hits disc in her first language... until now. The double-disc collection is filled with songs spanning her incredibly successful career; with liner notes (written solely in French) that talk about how Céline spent many years learning her craft from respected singer-songwriters who took a young chanteuse under their wings, from Luc Plamondon to Jean-Jacques Goldman. Aside from the previously released tracks, which include her bubbly hit "Je Danse Dans Ma Tête," the emotive "Ziggy," and the beautiful "Sous Le Vent," a duet with French sensation Garou there are three new tunes to entice fans. Only one is in English, the opera-meets-Titanic sounding "I Believe in You," a duet with Il Divo; the remaining two are the understated "Je Ne Vous Oublie Pas" and "Tous Les Secrets," a song about unconditional love. The one element that is frustratingly absent is the lack of information about the individual tracks in the liner notes: Nowhere is there a year of release for each of the 36 songs, nor a story about each song's history. That said, this disc will prove to be a definitive collection to her devoted French fans. --Denise Sheppard

5 out of 5 stars On Ne Change Pas (We Don't Change)-Perfect title for this great collection!.......2007-05-18

And indeed, she doesn't change. CD 1 is French hits from the '90's and early 2000's. CD 2 is some songs from the 90's as well as many of the French songs she recorded throughout the 80's. Listen to the 1st disc and then the 2nd disc, and you'll see that her voice was just as powerful in her later years as it was in her early career. This album will definitely show you a true artist whose talent didn't diminish with age (unlike a lot of other singers out there!). Buy this-even if (like me) you're an American who doesn't understand French a bit. It is a real treat for all Celine Dion fans. (And now that I've listened to this album, I am definitely looking forward to the release of her new French album "D'elles" next week!)

5 out of 5 stars Buy This CD.......2007-03-07

Great selections of Céline at her best! This is a must buy for any Celine Dion fan. This contains an ecletic mix of everything from Rock to Pop, to ballads, to country...all in français!

4 out of 5 stars Celine's magic years.......2006-09-01

A good and complete collection of Celine's french songs. All of her hits, plus exclusive rare bonus tracks and new good songs: the first single "Je ne vous oublie pas", as well as "Tous les secrets" and beautiful "I believe in you" with Il Divo.

It's a good album, full of memories of the past golden years, when Dion topped the charts of french speaking countries.

To be honest with you, sounds strange to read some of the other reviews, where people blame Celine for having realeased this album instead of a new collection of english songs..for those who think this way, I would like to remember that this is a french Greatest Hits album, and it's been sold in the US too, but it's not a product dedicated to the US....so why you compare it to Falling into you or All the way? It's ridiculous, it's like you compare fish with meat....

5 out of 5 stars Ju leur dirai.......2006-05-10

I find this CD very enjoyable. I love the listen to Je lui dirai and J'irai ou tu iras to put me in a good mood in the morning and s'il suffisail is just beautiful. If you don't like the french music Celine records, you should stick to her english releases.

4 out of 5 stars best of Celine (in French).......2006-03-18

Being originally from Quebec (where Celine is from), I recognized a lot of the older songs on this double CD - specially CD 2. It is a must have for any Celine fan. Listening to her old songs brought a lot of memories back and I enjoyed the CD mostly because of this reason.

5 out of 5 stars My brother is now adicted to this CD.......2006-10-27

I got this CD after seeing/hearing the "Somebody love me" music video from another music site. Something about that song gripped me so hard and I had to find it and get, probably because the lyrics are a personal cry from my own heart. This is the only CD of MWS with that song on it, so I got it. So glad I did. I love the CD, and my 12 year old brother heard me listening to it, and instantly got adicted. His favorite songs are "Cross of Gold", "I will be here for you", and "Picture Perfect. I have created a monster and now we are both MWS fans.

5 out of 5 stars Smitty's creative peak!.......2004-04-01

To put it very simply; this is musically the best MWS album. There's so much happening in the music and I still to this day find new stuff in there, it's amazing. This CD really was "contemporary" or actually ahead of it's time when it came out. Given the right promotion this album could have been an even bigger mainstream hit than "Go west young man". Oh, well...
Lyrically there have been more inspired albums, but still Wayne Kirkpatrick is doing a great job.

Let's hope and pray Michael's upcoming mainstream pop album on JIVE Records will be in this vein. Maybe a producer like Dallas Austin could update Michael's sound a bit, it has become VERY adult comteporary as of recent. Less guitars, piano and strings would do him good. :-)

5 out of 5 stars Every song a winner.......2002-06-29

Is there a bad song on this album? I can't find one. What I do find are a lot of stellar, not-to-be-missed tracks like "Picture Perfect" and "I Will Be Here For You". The somewhat overlooked "Cross Of Gold" carries an insanely catchy chorus and important message, while "Somewhere Somehow" represents a beautiful duet with Amy Grant. The album also features an updated and improved version of the classic song, "Friends". How can you go wrong?

5 out of 5 stars Change Your World by Michael W. Smith.......2000-06-15

This is by far Michael's most awsome album. With just one listen you will become addicted to his music! I was instantly turned on to Modern Christian music when first hearing him. I even went to one of his concerts at the time, in Virginia, AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE TAPEING OF THE LIVE CONCERT FOR THE VIDEO OF THIS ALBUM! Michael W. Smith is truely an inspiration, and this is just one of a number of his great efforts (and certaily his BEST! ) A MUST BUY!

5 out of 5 stars My First Impression of MWS!.......2000-03-31

The Change Your World album was the first time I heard MWS and his music. I was very well impressed with his song writing days with Amy Grant and thought I'd have a go with this album. I was happy when I was through listening to the album. It had a good message and sound; good actually for the secular music world. I do have to admit that because the album has a VERY pop sound to it, it's not hard to date the album's music style (as it's on the verge of being out dated with the times) with it's Chicago band sounding guitar rythms and synthetic beats, etc., but honestly, it still doesn't make the album "less" enjoyable as it loses no flavor and never will. I'm not too much into Christian music (as Amy Grant, Jars of Clay and MWS is all I listen to in the Christian market) but his music is worth the purchases. I haven't been unhappy with any of his releases since then.

4 out of 5 stars Great Praise and Worship.......2006-03-25

i actually got this album by accident, i ordered the dual DVD "God He Reigns" and the cd from Rueben Morgan and some one at the delivery made a mistake and instead of the one from Rueben's i received this.

at first i wasn't so pleased because, you know, i didn't ordered it. but then after a few days i decided to give this album a chance and WOW! i was able to be moved inside of me to pray to God and Worship Him whyle lisening to it (The album).

Very good music, excellent lyrics and of course hugely annoited.

I believe that this woman is running her life in the path that God chose for her to be in, she has been a blessing for so many Christians and also to just music lovers. I believe that God purposes are being achieved through her work and this album is a testimony of that.

Buy it, enjoy it, live it.

5 out of 5 stars Just Wonderful...Again.......2006-01-05

This is Ps. Darlene Zschech's second solo album. She continues to increase in the anointing! She is so talented and Gifted by God to sing His praises! Here is a rundown of what I love about each song (because I know that I like when others do that for me on other CD reviews)

1. You are Here 5/5 - mid tempo ballad. very pretty string arangement. The chorus continues to build to a beautiful creshendo toward the end. A truly wonderful reminder of God phenominal Greatness and that He is mine and He is with me!

2. Miracle 4/5 - the first single released in Australia from this album. Upbeat and produced by one of the members of the Parachute Band (a worship team from NZ) really catchy.

3. Captured 5/5 - ballad. GORGEOUS. The lyrics are sheer poetry. "I need you more than the morning needs the light" This is my heartbeat for God and she captures that need for God for all of us!

4. Call upon His Name 6/5 - Yes! It is that GREAT. This is my favourite song on the album. Ballady Hymn. I see praise dancers and orchestras and the Throne Room!!!

5. You KNow my Name 4/5 - up tempo. What a wonderful thing to sing about. Our phenominal God and the fact that this Creator of the Universe knows my name. ALso talks about her longing to know Him and be with Him in His phenominal presence

6. Never Give Up 3.5/5 - Really nice. Up beat. Creative. Just not my style. Musically and sentimentally really awesome.

7. Change Your World 5/5 - First single in US. Music Video on her website. Gorgeous melody and lyics. "I'll forever hear you say, I am your child, Please will you love me, Wont you stay...I live to change your world!" Wow...powerful! Check out her website hoperwanda.com

8. Where would I be 5/5 - ballad. Where would we be without His love? Too true! really beautiful melody again!

9. Glorify Your Name 4/5 - beautiful worship song that was also recorded on Hillsongs Live album "For All Youve Done".

10. Sing over me 4.5/5 - I really love this one. The thought of God singing over me the way that I sing to Him, but BETTER! Mid tempo.

11. You are Holy 5/5 - "...at times I hold my breath and tremble and behold your majesty...in the morning I will seek you...in the evening I will love you..." AMEN!!!

12. Agnus Dei 5/5 - LOVE THIS ARRANGEMENT! You need to do something with this song (in my humble opinion) if recording it because it so well loved and so popular already. Great ending for the album

Basically, she is awesome and anointed and a true God-lover. It comes across every note that she sings. If you buy this album, you will be truly blessed.

5 out of 5 stars Great Group!.......2006-06-06

I purchased their first CD, Spiritual Warfare, a few years ago when I saw them live in Baltimore. They are just as awesome live as they are on the CD. I own all of their works including Remixed which was sold overseas before it came to the US. It too is awesome. Their music is a blend of so many genres and the messages are always positive. They are the breath of fresh air needed!

5 out of 5 stars ya'll late.......2006-06-05

If I could rate this album 10 stars,I would. I have been a fan since they used to play @ Morgan homecomings 1999 and eyond. As fellow Morgan University Graduates, I must give that home grown flavor much love!! With Maysa trading vocals with the ever so soulful and beautiful N'Vasha - superb. This will only get airplay on a quiet storm on a college radio station -like WEAA 88.9 Morgan State University radio--or even WHUR in DC (Howard University). They are the epitome of 'underground' and grew from word of mouth. I love the track titled - Culture Bandits--it perfectly describes the way the industry violates the music of today, but Fertile Ground, as well as other artists in the 'neo-soul' movement (I really HATE that term) make music for the love of music, not the fanfare, not the fame, or notoriety. I love them for that...and to see them live is a spiritual and soul-stirring experience. I wish other artist would take a lesson from them--be real--to yourself, and not be SELLOUTS!!!

Peace and Blessings,

Tina

5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD.......2005-05-28

My friend came back with this CD from NY, 3 years ago, and I was amazed!!! The whole CD is strong. I still listen to it 3 years later. Amazing voice and instrumentals.

5 out of 5 stars i had no business buying this..........2005-02-20

... i had a few extra bucks (no fareal such a thang tho, is it??) in my pocket and wasnt really expeckin to buy anything... just nosing around the local underground-music-record-store.
fumbled thru some r&b...
bumbled thru some hiphop...
mumbled over some reggae... then
stumbled across these cats.
(they was mixed in with 'house' & 'drum & bass' section... i 'ont know why... these folks is definitely NOT anything like house or dnb; not with this album anyway!)

anyway... i got to sample this before i purchased it... and i was (insert a word you caint say around yo mama anem) blown away!
not 'heavy and loud' blown away... but as blown away as downtempo, my-mellow-my-man-jazzfunk can blow a big brotha like me away... ...soft and focused.

yeah, very jazzy... jazz, um, ish... too much groove to be smoove-jazz... too underground-lounge to be some neosoul wannabe.

if you was gonna take the love of your life out to some late night coffee house for the friday open mic, then, these are the folks who'd be warmin the stage up when all the spitkickers got done reciting they flows, feal me?

The line between evangelist and entertainer has always been somewhat indistinct. But as showcased on this 43-track, double-disc collection culled from his '87-'96 recordings for Elektra/Nonesuch/Atlantic, Michael Feinstein's dedication to spreading the gospel of the American song often blurs it beyond recognition. While the singer's pedigree for the task is impeccable (a long-term stint as Ira Gershwin's assistant and early career sponsorship by Liza Minnelli), his interpretations often succeed by playing off a tense axis of fervent emotionalism and a joyous sense of irreverence.

If his readings of romantic standards can sometimes tend toward the precious, they're often balanced here by sheer dramatic power and telling insights ("Isn't It Romantic" fairly bristles with ironic chauvinism) and a few loopy curves ("The Mole People," the Sherman Brothers' "The Ugly Bug Ball," and the previously unreleased "Rhode Island Is Famous for You"). Feinstein's dedicated song archaeology is also showcased on several gems: "Violin," a duet with Liza Minnelli; "My Favorite Year," a rejected ballad for the film of that name; the sublime "lost" Gershwin classic "Ask Me Again."

Sprinkled with live performances (the forum where Feinstein's talents seem most energized) and studio outtakes and featuring a lengthy print interview with the singer, the set chronicles both the pioneering efforts of one of pop music's most successful revivalists and, crucially, the cream of his beloved American songwriters, from stalwarts Gershwin, Berlin, and Porter to later legends like Herman, Styne, Lane, Martin, and Mercer. --Jerry McCulley

3 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings.......2005-10-05

This album has some GREAT songs on it; sophisticated swing being one of my favorites. However many of the other songs are too operatic and lame. I give three stars but this album is definatly worth it just for some of the better songs.

5 out of 5 stars Your love for this superb collection will be here to stay..........2002-07-18

The magnificently talented Michael Feinstein has made one wonderful album after another for nearly two decades. Now that Elektra and Rhino have put together this anthology, I am blown away by the versatility and diversity in Feinstein's recorded output. Such amazing rare gems, combined with the most beloved favorites in the history of American Popular Song. Assembled with wit, intelligence, and obvious affection on the part of the record company, this set is a keeper. You'll love it!

5 out of 5 stars He's done it again.......2002-07-15

Is there anything this man can't sing? This collection is so varied as to be the definitive collection of songs for any occassion.

This is perfect background music for a dinner party for a whole group but especially for two. Light, romantic and just gorgeous. You just can't go wrong when Michael Feinstein is your musical choice.

Way to go Michael, you've done it again!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely 'S WONDERFUL!.......2002-06-10

There are very few contemporary performers who can hold their own with the truly great interpreters of American popular song. Michael Feinstein is truly the ONLY performer of the "younger" generation who really understands what these songs are all about. His incredible knowledge of this music, and his enthusiasm and passion for it have fueled his career. Rhino Records has done a truly outstanding job of putting together an anthology that exemplifies why Mr. Feinstein has become so beloved by audiences around the world. The packaging is excellent, and filled with interesting photos and background information about many of the selections.

This collection not only contains all the favorites one would expect, but a neat group of surprises too. I especially love the duets with people like Liza Minnelli and Rosemary Clooney, and the various collaborative efforts with songwriters like Jule Styne and Burton Lane accompanying Michael at the piano.

This collection is a classic to be treasured. Bravo Michael!
Bravo Rhino!

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful 2 disc CD-another hit for Michael.......2002-06-09

I have every CD Michael has ever made and this is by far one of the best ones because of Michael's range in singing and his wonderful singing voice. I love his duets with Rosemary Clooney and Liza Minelli. He is a wonderful performer on this double CD and am looking foward to the next CD.

2 out of 5 stars painfully uninspired songwriting from Ocasek, as well as flavorless production.......2006-06-04

Released in 1993, "Quick Change World" finds Ric Ocasek running on empty, and it's hard to tell if he was even aware of it. On the one hand, he sprinkles in a couple of spoken voiceover pieces which could be seen as a way around having to come up with melodies. On the other hand, Ric originally conceived "Quick Change World" as a double CD that was also to contain a book of poetry, a collection of photographs, and more--in other words, a multi-media thing--and that's kind of incredible considering how weak this single disc distillation is.

The first 7 tracks on the CD are labelled the "Right Side", and apart from the opening spoken voiceover piece, these tracks, which were produced by Mike Shipley, find Ric trying to squeeze every last drop out of the Cars sound, and a majority of the time, he ends up sounding like a sad Cars imitation. Flavorless and annoyingly in-your-face production values weigh the proceedings down even more. "Hard Times" features a dull, overly-repeated, sludgy guitar riff, and his usual attempts at hip wordplay sound forced and annoying. "Don't Let Go" and "She's On" both suffer from painful predictability and a lack of hooks. "Feeling's Got To Stay" is an ultra-bland and pathetically predictable adult contemporary ballad--it sounds like Ric 'wrote' it in his sleep, both melodically and in terms of the chord changes which you can see coming a mile away. A couple of the tunes are a bit better--"A Little Closer" is at least respectably melodic and wistful, even though it's just a lesser rewrite of "Everything You Say" (with a sprinkling of "Steal the Night" and "Keep On Laughin'"); and "Riding Shotgun", though again sounding like he just cut-and-pasted a couple of his older songs together (featuring that damn I-VII-V-VI chord progression on the verses that he'd already used god knows how many times before), does have catchiness and a nicely contemplative feel, plus it rocks a little and has some nice effects.

The "left side", which Ric produced himself, is supposedly where he gets experimental; unfortunately, for the most part, that ends up meaning that Ric tries (and fails) to find various ways to distract you from his weak songwriting. It actually starts off nicely with the brief, dreamy "I Still Believe". But in almost no time Ric starts to fall back downhill, starting with "Come Alive", another fast-paced quasi-metallic blast, but unlike "Door To Door" which at least has an irresistible riff, "Come Alive" is exhausting and thin. The title track has sort of a funky groove, but wanders along aimlessly and features an annoyingly exagerrated Ocasek vocal. "What's On TV" sets a nice moody atmosphere, but again, there's no worthwhile development, and with Ric's artsy, repetitive, deliberately stoned-sounding spoken word vocals, it really becomes annoying. Tucked away at track number 12 lies the one truly excellent song on the album, the wonderfully exciting "Hopped Up"--it's a high-flying rocker with a great bass line, exhiliaringly silly lyrics, a great Ocasek vocal, and great tension created by the unpredictable transitions between just two chords.

With so many inexpensive copies of this CD floating around, Cars/ Ocasek fans will basically get their money's worth if they snap one up. Overall though, unless you're a really really 'easy-to-please' fan of The Cars/ Ric Ocasek, this album is a big-time disappointment. Ric, by and large, was running on empty (no pun intended).

4 out of 5 stars A Great Sequel To Fireball Zone .......2005-05-09

Despite his diminished-come-cultish status by the early 90's, Ric Ocasek was one of the most powerful synth artists since David Bowie. He even went so far as to request Bowie's "Let's Dance" producer Nile Rodgers for 1991's Fireball Zone.

Thematically, Quick Change World is a politically charged album with only a few flaws in that it has a little too much variety. Most of the songs are a lot less new wave sounding than you'd think. While certain songs fall short . . . such as "the big picture" and "what's on tv?", QCW is a very welcome early 90's album that served as a continuation of massive creativity for Ric Ocasek.

My Four Favorities from Quick Change World are :

The atmospheric "Feelings Got To Stay"
      The driving "She's On"
The beautifully ambient "I Still Believe"
The politically charged Title Track is a groovy and hypnotic

2 out of 5 stars Worst CD in my collection.......2005-01-19

"Quick Change World" isn't bad at first, the first half of the album really is pretty good with the exception of the first song (total garbage). Then the "left side" of the album comes on, as it is listed on the CD case, and it's total garbage. The whole second half of the cd doesn't have one good song, "What's on TV" is a good example of how bad they are.

If you are a big cars/ocasek fan, you should check this out for the first part of it but you'll soon find this cd in the bottom of your cd collection if you bother with the other half.

4 out of 5 stars Best CD for Ocasek.......2004-01-22

For those of us who enjoy Ocasek's lyric and musical style, then this CD is his best. There isn't a Top Ten hit on this release, but "Don't Let Go," "A Little Closer," and "She's On" may have had a chance for Top 40s during the Car's era. Personally, I like the title cut, "Quick Change World" best. A worthy purchase.

2 out of 5 stars There's a reason this is out of stock.......2003-08-11

It's the mid 90's. Ric Ocasek and "The Cars" have long since disbanded. There's nothing new for Ric to say. Full of production thing-a-ma-jigs and whirly-gadgets and vocal alterations.

Just a jumbled mess. OK, there's a couple cuts that make the grade. And, this might have broke the top 40....in 1982. In fact, when I listen to the cut "Hopped Up", I can almost see the group Flock of Seagulls performing it.

      For Cars/Ric Ocasek completists only.

With a dozen years of releases under their belts, Outrageous Cherry are the preeminent power pop rockers from Detroit (a city primarily associated with Motown and the garage punk of The Stooges and The MC5). The disc opens with the punchy and incredibly catchy song, "Pretty Girls Go Insane." This opener sounds so right it's amazing it hasn't already been written. Singer-guitarist-songwriter Matthew Smith has matured into a composer who draws on the past without being trapped by it. These songs bristle with immediacy, with nary a hint of nostalgia to be found. The twelve songs clock in at thirty-seven minutes, proof once again that brevity can be a powerful tool. --David Greenberger

Good 2005 release from the long-running(15 years now)Detroit band, that continues their tradition of bringing to you, their own brand of 'trippy psych'.Almost as breath-taking as their 2001 'Book Of Spectral Projections' effort(see my review).Tracks here that make the grade are the catchy opener "Pretty Girls Go Insane"(good point!),the rocking "Detroit Blackout","Trouble Girl" and "What Have You Invented Today?".I would suggest to,listen to the sound clips first before purchasing this CD.A should-have.

Thank god for Outrageous Cherry. This is fantastic, sunny, Nuggets-era pop that makes me smile like no other band. I recently saw them on tour and was overjoyed at their sound. Thank you, Outrageous Cherry, for keeping the power pop alive.

4 out of 5 stars Sunny day Pop.......2005-05-10

A staple of Little Steven's Underground Garage for the past few months...Outrageous Cherry's new album OUR LOVE WILL CHANGE THE WOLRD opens with the catchy "Pretty Girls Go Insane" and thus begins yet another tasty pop confection brewed up by popsmith Matthew Smith. The late 1960's sound radiates throughout like a bright sunshine. "(You're Not) A Nice Girl" sounds like it was pluked from the airwaves from an Oldies radio station. The band does a good, throughout-tracks like "Why Don't We Talk About Something Else" and the titular track really groove above and beyond the call of duty. While this kind of nostalgic, fun pop music may not be for everyone-but for those who yearn for a return to the happy-go-lucky days of Top 40 music...this record will change their worlds.
