I bought this CD because I missed listening to the music my grandfather played. This CD brought back a flood of memories for me. Wonderful compilation of my favorite italian classics.

We bought this CD for our daughter's wedding. After reviewing it, we could have saved our money. The version of Funiculi sounded like the Salvation Army band and it was totally lifeless. Lou Monte's Hey Gumbaree (it is actually Eh Cumpare in Italian--that should have given it away) was awful, and he consistently butchers the Italian language in all his other songs (annoying, I mean, couldn't he have learned the right pronunciation?).

While Perry Como and others have melodic voices (and very wisely sing in English because they don't know Italian), these are '50s versions of the songs, for the most part. While you have to appreciate them, they are really old and reflect the '50s type of instrumention and style. Would have loved to have heard all these songs done in a fresh and original way. Soldi Soldi was our favorite by far, and that is why we gave the CD two stars.

Could have gone to the library for this one.

Thanks for letting me voice our opinion. We are a big Italian family and just spent hundreds of dollars buying every CD out there for our daughter's wedding and figured we would share our opinion with others.

She was famous as both artist and model, infamous as political revolutionary and social libertine, and Frida Kahlo's controversial life couldn't help but seem the stuff of great musical theater. Her story is brought to the screen by director Julie Taymor, whose musical compatriot here is also her husband; Elliot Goldenthal, student of both Copland and Corigliani, shrewdly sublimates his modernism in service of the rich, evocative music and songs of Mexico and Central America. I absolutely love this soundtrack! Everytime I listen to it, I feel as though I am in Mexico during the revolution and Frida's life. Everyone should choose their own life soundtrack and this one allows us to see into Frida's life more clearly.

Fell into the movie trying to avoid study and hang out with a jilted housemate. If I'm honest, Salma Hayek was the main draw. Wafer thin.
However, I was enraptured by the story of Frida and the amazing performance (no wonder she was oscar nominated).
I bought the soundtrack the next morning. It really got to me.This is a great soundtrack and, yes, it does help if you have seen the movie but not necessary. I loved the latin passion (highs and lows). Chervala Vargas as Elliot Goldenthal describes in the slieve was once Frida's lover. I loved her Paloma Negra. So powerful.
There is something for everyone in this long soundtrack.
Do as i have: watch the movie and buy the soundtrack. Worth the time and money.

I purchased this CD after seeing the movie. The music is enjoyable to listen to and passionate as I would think Frida was. I purchased this CD a second time to give to a female Hispanic artist who identifies with the trials and tribulations of Frida. This artist now paints while listening to this CD. Her artwork not only has improved but has become popular. I defiantly recommend its purchase.

It's no accident that among the great albums Jerry Jeff Walker has made, most of them have been recorded in front of a live audience. If you want to get the feel of the rowdy Texas music scene of the early to-mid-'70s, look no further than ¡Viva Terlingua!, a rowdy, goat-ropin' classic of sing-along mayhem recorded in the tiny town of Lukenbach in the summer of 1973. Walker marshals his Lost Gonzo Band through a number of tunes that went on to become classics, including Guy Clark's "Desperados Waiting for the Train," Ray Wiley Hubbard's anthemic "Up Against the Wall Redneck," and his own "Sangria Wine" and "Gettin' By." I don't even consider myself a country music fan, yet this album is in my top five favorites of all time, easily. You really can't categorize Jerry Jeff Walker as "country" anyway...

I think some call his brand of music "outlaw", "gonzo", etc. -- but whatever you want to call it, it is timeless.

Back in the early 70's, my parents used to have big parties, and they would put this album on -- and that was when the party really started. We kids would all be upstairs, listening to the songs and also to our parents getting rip-roaring drunk while shouting out "Up Against the Wall Red Neck Mother". Hearing those songs over and over, I knew all the words by the time I was about 7 years old!

After my dad died in 2002, I was going through his extraordinary album collection, and spotted this gem. I was so excited to find it, and took it quickly before my brother could get to it, LOL.

Other reviewers here have done a much better job at describing the songs, but I just wanted to add an "amen" to the chorus. I also wanted to confirm that you do NOT have to be a country music fan to love this music.

My husband (alternative rock fan) gave me a smirk and a "yeah right" when I told him it was not your ordinary country music. Needless to say (to JJW fans) he has changed his tune, and is now a big fan himself.

Nobody, and I do mean NObody, could play it like Jerry Jeff. Long live Terlingua!!

My wife and I listened to Jerry Jeff (even drove once for 5 hours through a mid-western snowstorm to hear him in a small Chicago club!)when we were married over 30 years ago... then recently discovered at a college graduation crawfish boil at our daughter's home that many of her friends listen to him now. I decided that it was time to upgrade the LPs, which I still have, to CDs. Hearing these songs again in a pristine, clear state, without the bumps and scratches of the years brings back many memories. I'm on a campaign to encourage friends to do likewise so we can party again like we used to - now with our grown kids and thier friends!

OK. So, Jerry Jeff Walker isn't a native Texan. As the saying goes, he got here as soon as he could. With "Viva Terlinguia!" he stamped his Texas credentials for all time. It's rather odd that one of the signature anthems on this Texas Music masterpiece isn't a Jerry Jeff song at all! "London Homesick Blues" by Gary P. Nunn is reason enough to own the album. (I have the vinyl from back in the 1970s.) Jerry Jeff Walker burst into the music world in the late 1960s with "Mr. Bojangles," but that was before he came to Texas. This CD is Texas Music with "Sangria Wine" and "Little Bird" penned by Walker. And, he leans heavily on Texas songwriting legend Guy Clark's "Desperados Waiting for the Train" (another reason to own the CD) and Ray Wiley Hubbard's "Up Against the Wall Red Neck." Hubbard once said, don't record a song unless you're prepared to sing it at every gig. "Red Neck Mother" is one of those songs, and Jerry Jeff pulls it off so very well. "Viva Terlingua!" came out in the '70s country cross-over music surge, but this music--This Texas Music--has a life of its own transcending genres and decades.

This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!

For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.

This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.

I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."

This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

With a rush, a push and then bang! It landed. Morrissey's first album. With such a successful first solo album, one would have thought that happiness is around the corner for Manchester's Black Sheep son, but alas, this is only the first cut of the many wounds he would inflict with his later album releases. It was inevitable and all so sad that the Rogers and Hammerstein of the 80's, Morrissey and Marr, were to break up. But Morrissey must walk the path of gloom alone and this first album is ominous of everything else that was to come.

With youth still on his side, sadness and anger was oh so fresh, vibrant and inspired. Morrissey takes the back seat of the internal revolution of life's chaos and misery and pours it out in one, big, voluptous and elegant sigh with this debut album.

This is a great debut by the brilliant Morrissey. This is probably the solo album that came closest to the Smiths sound, probably due to the fact that Stephen Street, the engineer on many Smiths albums, wrote the music for this album. The opener, Alastain Cousin, is a powerful song. I love the melancholy and beauty of Everyday is Like Sunday (which Morrissey performed in concert when I saw him). Suedehead is a funny, pop masterpiece, but the final song, Margaret on the Guillotine, is a haunting, sad, acerbically hilarious song, reported written with then PM Margaret Thatcher in mind. While some will say "it ain't The Smiths", well, you're right, it isn't. But I still really like this album a lot...

Morrissey is a very talented individual and this cd is my personal favorite of his after the break-up from The Smiths. 'Margaret on the Guillotine' is an amazing track with the lyrics and instrumentals. I dont believe you can find it on any other Morrissey albums. A true talent like this deserves much credit.

After leaving his first band "The Smiths," Morrissey embarked on a solo career, and instantly become one of the most distinguished talents in college-pop rock. His first album, "Viva Hate," is far from perfect, but features a good number of galvanizing and danceable tunes; all orchestrated with Morrissey's poetry, and clearly decisive voice. From the first song Alsatian Cousin, in which a sifting bass-keyboard sound fires, this solo-debut heralds something special. The music and lyrics corrosively develop into a melee of Morrissey's frustration with someone in his life, in which he asks them the direct question, "Were you and he lovers?" It is these themes of love, heartbreak, nostalgia, political bashing, suicide, and lines that speak of wanting an Armageddon, that make this album nearly break from its downpoints.

Most noticeable about this debut is the inclusion of the keyboard, and this sharp sound somewhat makes up for the absence of the stunning instrumental work, and musical construction of guitar wizard, Johnny Marr. The great number of stylistic strokes in many songs could have a meaning, like the bashing cymbals on "Little Man, What Now?" that seem to match the song's themes about childhood dreams squashed, appropriately, and add more heart to the beautiful voice of Morrissey. While images of nothingness, leading to a bitter depression are in the next song, "Everyday is Like Sunday," a piece about a derelict and dangerous coastal town with dread-ridden lyrics like, ""How I wish I was not here/ in the seaside town. /...That they forgot to bomb." It is by this grasp on human loneliness, and regret, that makes Morrissey's songs so fascinating, as they inhibit a serene feel of a summer breeze, with a nagging sensation of developing tragedy.

When "Viva Hate's" forth song hits your ears, the album begins to stem some instantly forgettable songs. Bengali in Platforms seems underdeveloped, and lacking Morrissey's brutal emotional punch. While others are well intentioned, bad ideas; such as Hairdresser on Fire, a social satire that just ends up feeling empty, and too obvious. Many of the next songs jut between moments of greatness, (Suedehead is a corky rocker) and soft-pop rock misfires (Last Night, Maudlin Street, a well-written song that sadly goes on a bit too long.)

While "Viva Hate" never deteriorates into below average music, it does not quite reach the level that Morrissey has put forthright with "The Smiths" albums. However, Morrissey's skill has not diminished, as both a songwriter, and a singer. Despite a few underwhelming missteps, "Viva Hate" is an album that is still essential in every music fan's collection.

This album played by The Smiths lineup, might have surpassed The Queen is Dead or Meat is Murder.

As it stands it is very good. Probably the most Smiths like of his solo albums which isn't suprising given it was released soon after the regrettable demise of The Smiths. The main difference is that Johnny Marr is irreplacable, though Stephen Street is competant and compliments Morrissey well.

My favorites on this album are Angel, Angel..., which might be the most haunting and beautiful songs he ever penned. Every day is like Sunday, Suedehead, Hairdresser on Fire and Alsatian Cousin. The rest are just so-so, but not bad.

If you are new to The Smiths or Morrisey, check out The Smiths, as his work with Johnny Marr and co is unbeatable, and then start with this and go through his solo catalog.

    and passionate singing, you won't be disappointed. While Corelli certainly had his flaws, they are minor in the larger picture of this unique, magnificent force of nature. Then get this set for your friend who thinks Andrea Bocelli is a great tenor.

    Franco Corelli had one of the powerful tenor voices of the twentieth century. Think Mario del Monaco with more beauty and grace; think Richard Tucker with a smoother voice. He had annoying touches in his singing, such as those "catches" here and there. But, with Tucker, he is, in my estimation, one of the two most powerful and attention riveting tenors in the past century. Other tenors were more artistic, provided better characterization (think Domingo, Gigli, Pavarotti, Gedda, Caruso, and some others).

    But Corelli was a wonder of nature! Some samples: "Ah si, ben mio. . .Di quella pira." If there were an aria made for Corelli, this would be it. His big, rich, powerful voice fits this cut nicely. Not much subtlety here. In "Di quella pira," he hits the high notes in a stentorian manner. There are those mannerisms, but they are so easily forgiven, taking into account that rich, lustrous voice.

    "Celeste Aida" is another representative cut. This is a powerful version. Also, note how he goes from forte to piano at the end of this aria. A powerful effect indeed.

    Then, there are the twin arias from "Tosca." In "Recondita armonia," his rich voice is well manifest. He exhibits a smooth line in his singing. This is a powerful version of this well known aria. "E lucevan le stele" displays again that rich voice. At one point, he goes from forte to piano in a mesmerizing manner (Who'd have thought it?). His final "la vita" grabs one's attention.

    Finally, "Nessun dorma." Well, smoothly, and powerfully sung. The final "vincero" is powerfully rendered, leaving goose bumps on the spine.

    This is the very best of Franco Corelli. Those who want to get a sense of the vocal prowess of one of the most powerful tenors of the 20th century should attend to this double CD set.

    Franco Corelli is the greatest tenor of this century. Although there are many fine tenors including Carlo Bergonzi - no tenor comes close to singing with the pure heart and animal magnetism of Franco Corelli. Surprisingly, he was also quite comfortable with bel canto, listen to the incredible "A te o'cara". I've heard "Nessun Dorma" sung by many excellent tenors and hands down, none can touch the sublime beauty of Corelli's version. This 2cd set of his greatest arias is a wonderful gift for any opera fan. "Recondita Armonia" is my personal favorite. His thrilling vocal beauty and intensity of performance is truly unforgettable.

    Such a pleasing voice. I can't believe the clarity and perfection. He was well before my time and others have become more 'popular' since then, but for some reason his voice seems better than the more current singers. I do not know much about opera so I will have to rely only on my own ears. I happily recommend this double album. I like to have it playing on the 5 CD changer with other opera cds, mixing through them...it is a perfect saturday morning accompaniment. enjoy.

    I was looking for a CD to listen to on my way to work, so I stopped by a music store and started looking. And I came across this little CD. I like Viva La Bam, and I knew that Bam has good taste in music, so I bought it. And boy am I glad that I did! HIM, The 69 Eyes, Cradle of Filth, and Children of Bodom are all bands that I love! But I heard this CD, and now I like Negative, The Sounds, KillHannah, and D-A-D!
    If you love music, and also love listening to new music, buy this CD! You won't regret it.

    *****Viva La Bands is a must-buy. Pretty much for all tastes, whether you like the more melodic stuff of HIM or Negative, the catchy girlie-vocals of the Sounds, or the screaming death-metal of Cradle of Filth or Children of Bodom. I originally bought this because I am ridiculously obsessed with HIM and knew that Bam Margera was too, so I figured he must have good taste in music.
    *****And he does. Even if you glance at the list and see band after band that you don't like, consider getting it anyway if there is even one band you haven't heard. This CD has so many different types of music you are sure to find something you adore. I like the songs from 69 Eyes, Negative, and the Rasmus the best, but I actually got hooked on Cradle of Filth and Children of Bodom which surprised me.
    *****And if all fails, get Viva La Bands for the DVD. The Bam stuff is hilarious (hint: a claustrophobic person going over a waterfall in a stolen barrel from a chemical plant) and the music videos are worth watching as well. If anything, get this so you can watch the "And Love Said No" music video. The "Lost Boys" video is also one of my favorites.
    *****So run out and buy this before they're all gone. You get good music regardless of your preferences, a chance to watch Bam & crew do absurdly stupid things like smash rental cars and apartment windows, and of course you get to watch all the hot people in the videos (yes, there are girls in some of them as well). SO BUY IT!!!!

    From the melting pot of New York's East Village come two ultrahip and very tasty expatriate Japanese music-makers, Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda, calling themselves Cibo Matto. That the name (pronounced "cheebo motto") means "food madness" in Italian is appropriate: the female duo sings about things to eat (apples, beef jerky, artichokes, birthday cakes) on all 10 tracks of their debut album, Viva! La Woman. And even if the record's lyrics are generally nonsensical, food makes for a great text: ripe with metaphors, it's sensual, colorful, irresistible, and quite universal. But as in another East Asian export--the 1994 Taiwanese film Eat Drink Man Woman--food is the canvas on which the artists paint their story, and not the story itself. Cibo Matto could just as easily stand for "sample madness." Sound, not taste, satisfies their appetite, and the disparate ingredients they pop in the blender--ambient bursts, random noises, hip-hop breakbeats, trip-hop swirls and churns, Afro-Cuban percussion, muted cool jazz trumpets, funky bass and keys--produce a sonic collage of rhythms and melodies that makes for some of the most successful sampler-based songwriting to date. Like Soul Coughing --a similar-minded downtown New York outfit--Cibo Matto don't replace real playing with sampler loops, they just bring the sampler into the mix as a limitless source for all the crazy sounds their conventional instruments can't get to. And like the Beastie Boys, Cibo Matto compose music the way kids play with toys--so naturally and so ecstatically it makes us all want to come out and join in their irrepressible fun. --Roni Sarig

    Cibo Matto's first release, Viva! La Woman (1996) is a strange concoction - a unique mix of Hip Hop, alternative, electronic, dance, jazz and popular music influences that deosn't sound quite like anything you (or at least I) have heard before. Before I launch into my opinion on this astonishingly addictive and catchy album, I will make it very clear that I absolutely love it. I own a lot of CDs; some I have grown out of entirely, some I bought for only a couple of songs (or even one), some that were ultimately forgettable. Viva! La Woman, however, has remained one of my very favourite CDs - a kind of talisman to which I continually return for relaxation, escape, or inspiration for my own pursuits in music.

    It also has to be said that it is not a CD for everyone. People with conservative tastes in music will see the ostensibly nonsensical lyrics to be nothing more than, well, nonsense. Others may listen to a track like 'Apple' and discard it as dissonance. I suppose you have to approach a pairing (Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda) like Cibo Matto with an open mind. We're not talking John Cage or Kraftwerk here, but it has to be said that Viva! La Woman is radically different to the music that you will hear in the charts. The Australian charts, anyway...

    I first came across Cibo Matto in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and again in Michel Gondry's fantastic music video for 'Sugar Water', and the love affair grew from there. It is hard to describe exactly what I find so addictive about Viva! La Woman. From the perspective of an audio production student, the album is an excellently-produced blend of the aforementioned musical genres, where sampled accoustics meet electronics to create some ridiculously catchy tracks that will stay in you head for... Well, its three years and counting for me, so far.

    Then there's Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda's incredible vocals. The lyrics will at first seem whimsical, even childish. The more I've listened, however, the more the lyrics have combined with the music to articulate such feelings as love, sadness and jubilation better than any other album I own. Perhaps it's just me, but Viva! La Woman takes me on an emotional ride, stimulating my imagination all the while.

    There's something more though. Like the cult TV show on which I discovered Cibo Matto, Viva! La Woman is just effortlessly cool. There's no better way of putting it. It's anything but ordinary, maddeningly catchy and really, really addictive. Highly recommended, and a worthy purchase for anyone who likes electronic and alternative music.

    For the record, the 1999 follow up, Stero Type A, is brilliant as well.

    when this first came out, it was interesting and unique and different. but to me, it has not held up very well over time. there are some pretty cool songs on here, but the nonsense lyrics tend to make it very gimmicky and Cibo Matto always seemed to me as more of a novelty item than a functioning musical unit. a curse that this band never seemed to escape. but they can be charming and i found myself warming up more to their later releases after this one.

    Japan is a strange place, Just listen to this album and you'll agree,
    After being introduced to Cibo Matto by mom (you heard that right,she listes to everything from green day to Gorillaz)
    Everything on this Album is great but the highlights have to be
    Beef Jerky-Irreverant and funny, plus the say "A horse's ass is better than your's"

    Birthday Cake-After about 15 seconds of silence you hear a click and someone yelling some incoherent thing followed by some wierd squeling and "SHUT AND EAT-TO BAD NO BON APPETITE-SHUT UP AND EAT-you know my love is sweet" gets blared in your ear so loud that the first time i litterally had to throw my headphones off(due to the max sound due to 15 seconds of silence)Propbably the best song on the album,irreverent.

    Chicken-Quirkiest song on the album, hard to explain need to listen to this one yourself.

    Artichoke-A double entrendre fest topped of with the line "Can you squeeze a Lemon on me?" Zed Zeppelin anyone?

    Like i said this album is great all aroud(though theme is a little long) For those of you that have been to japan this is probably not that wierd to you
    for the rest of us this is the best thing to come out of japan since video games.
    Too bad they've broken up though

    Hmmmm....what can I say? Remixed is the 3rd album Bond has released, consisting of remixes of old favorites and several new tracks. For those of you who don't know, Bond is a rock string Quartet made up by 4 young women. Similar in style old Vanessa Mae.

    The Album starts with an exciting opening, of Viva! (Orion Mix). This is made up from a remake of Antonio Vivaldi's Allegro from Winter (The Four Seasons). Its an enjoyable piece, very simple, but the drums and the occasional shouting of "VIVA!" makes it a great song.

    The second track is a remix of one of Bond's more famous piece. Victory was a huge success, but the remix wasn't so in my opinion. The 'Sharp Boys Wild Strings Edit' was a strange one. It didn't contain much of the original. After a tedious drum beat and strange sounds for about 1 minute and 10 seconds, a short clip of strings come on the original melody. For the next minute more drums, then more repeating of the melody heard in the middle.

    Third track was a remix of Wintersun. Wintersun (Bobby D'Ambrosio Mix) was basically the same, but a bit more of a disco style.

    Again, with Speed (Crash Club Mix). Sam thing, but a lot more of the disco sounds. I actually found myself enjoying it more than the original! It really sounds like some one is...driving a car or something.

    Fuego's remix (Caliete Mix) I also enjoyed more than the original. It has a longer introduction, and more music to back up the strings. It also has a very fast sita (sp?) solo in the middle, making it sound very Spanish!

    Homecoming, Atlanta and Time are new tracks. Not my most favorites, but they are very calm, remind me of Asia. Except for Time which sort of gives you the feeling that all the clocks are moving at the same time. Bond also uses Clock sounds in the middle for effect.

    Shine (Dubsharka Mix) is by FAR the best song on the album. Its a fantastic dance track, with a fantastic solo and playing in the song. Its a Bollywood styled song, making you think of India. I was a little disappointed however, since this song was released on their earlier album (Shine, 2002). Although I love it, they should have put the Indian Summer Mix on instead, which cant be found anywhere except on Atlanta/Time

    Duel and Bond on Bond (Both 'Hectic Mixes') I just couldn't stand. They were absolutely ridiculous. Just having the tracks played twice as fast. If I wanted to do that, I could have gone into Media player and pressed Fast Forward x2.

    The Last song is Jingle Bell Rock (Pussy Galore Mix). Its an interesting one, just jazzing up the original Jingle Bell Rock.

    Overall, this album is great for something like a party, for its mainly disco music. Not the best Bond Album, but very good anyway.

    However, If you are a big bond fan, I would suggest you get the Import (Includes 2 videos of Victory and Fuego) or the Japanese Edition (Includes and Extra mix of Viva!, original Jingle Bell Rock, Duel Indonesian Mix and Innocent)

    I got Bond's debut album a couple years ago.  Although not as exciting as Vanessa-Mae's album "Storm," it was better than Vanessa-Mae's debut crossover album "The Violin Player" and approximately equal to her third album, "Subject To Change."  The Bond debut had a lot of energy, but to me it was begging for a little stronger beat.

    So when I found a Bond remix album late last summer, I grabbed it!  How cool can that be--a Bond remix album!  Whoo-hoo!!!

    When I got it home and listened to it, I was a bit disappointed because it wasn't quite remixed enough.  I wanted the mixes to be hotter, and the bass and drums more pronounced.  But under-remixed is far preferable to over-remixed, which is a problem with Vanessa-Mae's song "Storm."  This is my favorite Vanessa-Mae song; the four-minute album length is not nearly long enough for me, so when I learned there was an 8-minute remix, I just had to have it!  I had to buy this Vanessa Mae CD single from a store in England (via Amazon's used CD vendors) since I could not find it stateside.  And I was very disappointed:  The remixer had so vastly remixed it that not only did it lose all its energy, it wasn't even recognizable!  So between over-remixing and under-remixing, I prefer under-remixing, thus I am happy enough with the remixes on this Bond album.  But they could have done better, I think.

    Although I was a little disappointed that the mixes not being spruced up quite enough,  it does not mean I do not like this album.  Au contraire! I love this album! It is an album full of energy, life, vitality! It is an album that I nearly always play very LOUD! It as an album that I play when I'm wound up, feelin' good!!! Nearly every song is fast, and the beat never stops!

    The album opens with "Viva!", a song that is also found on their DVD, which I bought around the same time I got this album. What a perfect song to start this album with! A sample of a group of females shouting 'VIVA!" plays from time to time throughout, adding to the energetic playing of the strings. On the DVD, this song is backed with video footage from their concert at the Royal Albert Hall in England; in the video, when the shouts "VIVA!" are heard, fireworks shoot out from the balconies and the stage at the theater--so exciting!

    The next song is the remix of their first radio hit, "Victory," which starts out with a hot Latin beat and Spanish guitars. "Victory" and another track, "Fuego," feature frenetic string playing. The best song on the CD for dancing--and my second favorite song on the album--is "Duel." This has a driving bass line and percussion beat, an upfront electronic synthesizer riff, and a beautiful ethereal female nonverbal vocal accoutrement, with tubular bells even added toward the end. Spine-tingling! Wonderful!

    Although "Duel" and my favorite song "Viva!" rule supreme in the degree of spine-tingling awesomeness, they're not the only ones to bring such a pleasurable reaction to me. "Wintersun" is played with deep heartfelt emotion; "Atlanta" also is full of emotion. I like "Speed" and "Time" because of their European technopop sound, especially "Time," which has a nice melodic, minor key electronic keyboard riff. "Shine" has a bit of a Spanish or Italian flair, another of many romantic flavors of this album.

    There are only two songs on the album that I don't care for. One I absolutely don't like is "Jingle Bell Rock," but that's because I hate the song, not because I don't like their version of the song. If I am forced to listen to that song, I would likely choose their version. The other one I like okay, but it doesn't do for me what the rest of the songs on the album do: "Bond on Bond." This is a track of them doing the James Bond theme. A cool idea, and it works, but again, doesn't float my boat. Fortunately, these two songs are at the end of the album, so I can just end the album at the third to the last song, which is also my second favorite song, "Duel"!

    Most of the DVD's music comes from their first album, while this remix CD has the best of their first two albums. I now have their third studio album, "Classified," which I like better than their first album (I don't have their second), but no surprise to me, this remix album of theirs is clearly my favorite. "Storm" by Vanessa Mae is my favorite secular album of all time, all genres combined, so naturally in the genre of classical crossover it is my favorite. Bond's "Remix" is my second favorite classical crossover album. It reaches down and touches the heartstrings of my musical soul and stirs them up to make a fabulous and emotional listening experience for me!

    Bond has impressed critics with their somewhat controversial performances of classical-crossovers. From using trance beats to the sounds of African drums... there is no limit to how much and what they can do to enhance classical music that they play.

    With Bond Remixed however; it is quite a drag to put it simply. The album is a total re-mix album, so think of it as a compilation of single re-mixes put together. But also, there are three original tracks by Bond: Homecoming, Atlanta, and Time. All three of these tracks rely a lot on synth sounds and trance beats. Which get boring after listening to all these re-mixes, but keeping in mind that it is a RE-MIX album after all... so although the originality of Bond's previous albums: Born and Shine are not there, it is because they are re-mixed.

    One of my personal favorite tracks is Viva [Orion Mix], which for those who have the Bond Live at Royal Albert Hall DVD all should know (For those who do not know, it is an extra video on the DVD, a live performance of Viva). Though I would have to say it takes repetition of classical music to its red line. Another great track to listen to is Jingle Bell Rock [Pussy Galore Mix]. Great example of good trance, combined with classical sounds. Bobby D'Ambrosio's mix of Winter, originally named Wintersun, is interesting enough by creating a new intro into the song. The rest of the song is shorter with a different beat.

    The rest of the tracks seemed to use the original songs, but just add a different beat, more bass, and more synth. It puts the name of "re-mix" to a shame. Besides Speed [Crash Club Mix] which adds more excitement to the song as it is called Speed, the listener is better off listening to the originals. The prime example of horrible remixing is Duel [Hectic Mix] and Bond on Bond [Hectic Mix] (It's funny how both of these songs were badly mixed by the same person). In Duel, Hectic makes the song more faster-paced and adds a synth sound to the beat, which has a deeper bass. The song relatively stays the same. As goes the same for the Bond on Bond mix, where there is only a different, harder dance beat added to the original song. Also, Shine [Dubshakra Mix], doesn't even sound different. After listening carefully, you will notice the very subtle addition of more tambourines. But it sounds exactly the same; I listened back and forth from the "mix" to the original on the "Shine" album, and could not really tell.

    If you want re-mixed Bond songs, this is terrible album to try to find some. Re-mixes are supposed to be a variation of the original song, almost as if the mix was a whole new song. But these "re-mixes" are sad to listen to. I am ashamed for whoever compiled this horrible playlist of tracks. Also, the original tracks by Bond are not what Bond is noted for, as if they were rushed to do these tracks.

    A lot of artists do a "filler" album. Bond may have used a re-mix album to give themselves a year off, either for time off recording, or to make more time to record their 4th album, "Classified". Most likely it was to give the girls some well-deserved time off after releasing "Born" and "Shine".

    Any fan of Bond will most likely find this album oddly dissatisfying, leaving a caustic taste in the mouth, and a penetrating headache. I would not recommend this album, unless you are a die-hard fan. But please, if you are a first-time listener to Bond, listen to "Born" or "Shine".

    *There is two videos that can be played on your computer however; a video of Fuego and Victory, are fun to watch. But they are from their other albums, Victory from "Born" and Fuego from "Shine".

    I generally stay away from remix albums simply because it's tough to improve on an original. However, I'm a huge fan of techno music and these remixes are heavier fixed with the sound of the dancefloor than the original tracks are. As you can tell by some of the reviews, some people love this, and some hate it. I think the ones that hated this CD are not fans of modern dance music and miss the whole point of dance CDs to begin with, so you can't judge anything by what they say.
    This is a great dance CD, period. For the more consertive use of dance beats, see any of Bonds other releases, but this one is definately for the club fans out there. Another killer dance CD I want to suggest is Mr.Deviant's "Techno Obsession" which mixes power rock with killer dance beats to create some very original dance music. Both CDs are great!
