Latin Caribbean Party, Vol. 1
Editorial Reviews
Album Description
VICTORY WORLD CONTINUES TO DOCUMENT THE DIVERSE PULSE AND CULTURE OF THE CARIBBEAN. Aguinaldos, Guarapos, Despendidas and Parang are popular Latin music genres found in various forms throughout the Caribbean, Columbia and Venezuela. Parang is derived from the Spanish parranda - "the action of merry-making, group of serenaders". Started by Trinidad?s Spanish peasants (the cocoa panyols) the music came from Spain but via Venezuela and over the years has fused elements of Columbian and Cuban music in its repetoire. This documentary features the old tradition of serenading in Spanish, accompanied usually by 4-6 singers and musicians playing cuatros, mandolins, bandolins, chac-chac, box base, banjos, violins and maracas. It is a distinct Latin rhythm ? unique from the Cumbia or Merengue. Latin Caribbean Party features music of happiness, togetherness and joy ? for all ages.
