Thoughts of an Exile

Editorial Reviews
John Lucas, the Georgia Straight, November 7, 2002
"...strikes a fine balance between moodiness and bliss, between headphone-friendly sonic experimentation and solid songwriting."

About the Artist
Formed in late 1999 by childhood friends, DAWNTREADER imposed a moratorium on performing live shows to craft their debut CD. Live shows are a rare glimpse into the thought process of DAWNTREADER and are undertaken with a cautious rehersal schedule to ensure quality. While not secretive, DAWNTREADER does prefer to shy away from the usual cliches involved in being in a rock band. The band has remained independent, choosing Anniedale records as a matter of community, not commodity.

Album Description
Recorded over the course of a year, the emotionally-charged THOUGHTS OF AN EXILE is an album of unwavering sincerity and ambition. The expressive full length album traverses much terrain, from the dark, cinematic open skies of COUNTRY, through the propulsive beats and grinding guitars of YOU'LL NOTICE WHEN IT'S GONE and on to the dreamy atmospheric passages and hypnotic melodies in INNOCENCE. There is an underlying understanding of the emotional weight of a song: melody, dynamics, passion. DAWNTREADER writes music that is perhaps beyond their age in sophistication, claiming influences from a select, imaginative crowd. U2, Radiohead, the Doves, Spiritualized, the Beatles, My Bloody Valintine all inspire the band, yet DAWNTREADER have been able to fuse these influences into a solitary sound of their own.
