While Best Of may not be inclusive enough for the avid collector because it focuses more on Blondie's new wave dance hits than on their punk beginnings, songs like "Heart of Glass," "Dreaming," "The Tide Is High," and "Call Me" display the diverse musical styles this band embraced. It's a new wave album, a reggae album, a dance album, a punk album, and a rap album. Rock-solid songwriting and Debbie Harry's sultry vocals hold the CD together despite the stylistic reaches of the tracks. --Beth Bessmer

4 out of 5 stars I like a little of a lot of different kinds of music.......2007-06-20

I enjoy several songs off this CD, but my favorites are (I Am Always Touched By Your) Presence, Dear, Dreaming, and Sunday Girl. I have also come to appreciate In The Flesh, and One Way or Another. I am even intrigued by Atomic, and amused by Tide Is High. I grew up on a mixture of 60s rock and 50s bluegrass and country and western, so maybe it is not so strange that I like this CD. There seems to be a little of this and that, and something for most tastes.

5 out of 5 stars What got me started..........2006-07-02

Well, this was the very first Blondie cd I bought. This cd got me hooked. I'm a HUGE Blondie fan and it's all thanks to this (and "Heart of Glass" my fav song ever). It's cool because it has the popular songs and the not so popular songs that you just love! Awesome cd...

4 out of 5 stars A Good Collection Of Songs.......2005-11-23

I never owned any album by Blondie other than this Best Of, so I don't know that much about the group's studio albums. I put over half of the songs from this album onto my i-pod so I think it is definitely worth getting unless you can find a more complete compilation with newer songs like Maria and Good Boys. Anyways, my favorite tracks are Heart Of Glass, Dreaming, In The Flesh, Sunday Girl, Call Me, and Atomic. Blondie was certainly a unique talent that paved the way for other female artists. Her songs hold up quite well even today!

1 out of 5 stars Pathetic collection.......2007-07-23

This must be the worst and the most incomplete of all the Blondie compilations. I do not recommend it. There are far better ones available in the form of The Complete Picture: Very Best of Blondie, The Platinum Collection and Greatest Hits.

2 out of 5 stars Far from "Best".......2005-02-01

"Best of Blondie" is a rather deceptive title -- it would be better to call it "Blondie's Top Ten Hits." You get what you pay for in this budget CD, which contains some of Blondie's best songs, but also omits any songs from their first album, and neglect other notable songs.

"Best of" contains several songs from the classic Blondie albums, not including the recent reunion albums. Included are songs from "Autoamerican" ("Rapture," "The Tide is High") "Parallel Lines" ("Heart of Glass," "One Way Or Another"), "The Hunter" ("Island of Lost Souls"), "Plastic Letters ("Denis"), and "Eat To The Beat" ("Atomic," "Dreaming").

The biggest problem with "Best of" is obvious -- it only contains some of Blondie's hits. Admittedly there's going to be overcrowded selections if there are six albums and only ten selected hits, but "Best of" fails to give a full picture of Blondie's top tunes.

For example, their self-titled debut album is completely ignored, despite songs like "X Offender" and "Rip Her To Shreds." "The Hunter" and "Plastic Letters" have only one song each -- okay, neither is Blondie's most popular, yet each has songs that are worthy of inclusion.

What redeems the "Best of" album at all is that it's a good introduction to the works of Blondie. Deborah Harry's solid vocals sound good whether in punk or new wave (or some mix of the two), and the other members of Blondie provide a colorful, nimble musical backdrop for her voice. Unfortunately, it also suffers from poor audio quality.

"Best Of Blondie" will be a disappointment to fans, or to people looking for an overall glance at Blondie's work. As an introduction, it's a pretty good choice.

1 out of 5 stars Waste Of Time and Money.......2004-09-06

First of all the sound is horrific and it is hard to here the drums good on some of the tracks!!! "Heart Of Glass", "The Tide Is High", "Rapture", and "Atomic" have all been shortened! I would like to here the FULL VERSIONS!!! This is not a worthy compilation unless you are completing a collection or just like crappy sound quality!!! Take My Advice and Stay Away From this compilation!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy,Good Songs,Good Addition to Collection!.......2003-03-29

For the price, and for the selection of songs this is a great album. I think the sound is very good. If you like Blondie, or collect thier music, buy this one to add to your collection. It's 35 minutes and 37 seconds (10 songs) of joy.

5 out of 5 stars Great for the casual Blondie Fan.......2002-03-07

I have always liked various songs by Blondie but have never owned anything by them. This is a great ... compilation of their radio hits for the casual fan. I didn't hear anything wrong with the sound quality as stated by the last reviewer. It sounded like a good quality recording.

4 out of 5 stars MOSTLY THE COMPLETE PICTURE.......2004-11-11

Blondie is a band that you can never get tired of. Their music is done with style and creativity. I purchased this album and was excited because I thought it would be perfect. It is except some songs are shortened. "Island Of Lost Souls" is (3:50 sec), but the album version is (4:40 sec). It was hard to hear Debbie's voice on "Heart Of Glass". The very begining of "The Tide Is High" is sort of cut off. On the good side we get the (5:36 sec) version of "Rapture". Deb's solo work is great and "Well Did You Ever" is a pretty fun song. If your a fan of Blondie then buy this. It's ok.

5 out of 5 stars Probably The Best.......2004-01-18

This is a must have album for any fan or music collector. The album has it all and it leaves nothing to chance. It also introduces the listener to some tracks of Debbie's from her solo albums as well (which I think a lot of people have really overlooked) So yes the album is a bit pricey but look at what you get. It's a good buy especailly here on Amazon where at the record shop I've seen it priced as high as 39.99 and you have to have it through a special order.

5 out of 5 stars HITS, HITS, HITS AND MORE HITS!.......2004-01-06

Well c'mon. What more could you want? This is a glorious batch of singles that most artists would give their left thingie for. What a swell party this is!!

5 out of 5 stars A COMPLETE PLEASURE.......2001-06-08

Blondie started out as a bunch of poppy punks, progressed into artpopdom and in the process became one of he biggest selling acts of the late 70s/early 80s. With Deborah Harry, the priginal blonde of pop, as frontperson and a repertoire of fluent, supercharged songs like Heart Of Glass, I'm Always Touched By Your Presence, Dear and Denis, they jostled for number one position with those other blond phenomena of the period: Abba and the Police. This album proves that Blondie have aged well. Other highlights include Sunday Girl, Picture This and Dreaming, which overshadow Harry's later solo material such as French Kissing In The USA. Not that she had lost her touch - her duet with Iggy Pop, Well, Did You Evah!, displays lots of streetsmart exuberance.

5 out of 5 stars Down & Dirty Good.......2000-06-14

The Complete Picture is one of the best compilations I've ever heard. It's obvious that a lot of thought went into not only picking the tracks but also to the order in which they appear. This CD tells the story of an incredible band named Blondie -- and it doesn't leave out the "import parts." Complete Picture has both "French Kissin' in the USA" and "Island of Lost Souls." It has the surreal "Well, Did You Evah!." The sound quality is sharp and clear. This is one well-mastered CD.

Complete Picture has just about all of Blondie's best known songs. (The only glaring omission I can think of is "X Offender" and I'm probably the only person who likes it. Grin.)

If you're looking for a "best of" Blondie, you've found it. The Complete Picture is worth the extra cost. Buy it. You'll be glad you did.

An odd compilation from Blondie! But if it has Blondie on it I will BUY!!! Most compilations have the world famous "Heart Of Glass", "One Way Or Another", "Call Me", and "Atomic", but this CD went in a different way and put some other songs that weren't noticed as much. The other good songs from the early years including Platinum Blonde, Susie and Jeffrey, War Child, In The Flesh, X Offender, and Rifle Range.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Not very Best.......2006-03-18

Blondie was one of the most exciting 1970s bands, with its roots in New York punk, its spectacular exploration of pop and its later ventures into synthpop and dance. This Best Of collection is weighted towards their later work and is not comprehensive at all. It opens with the brilliant Heart Of Glass, a hypnotic slice of synth-driven dance-pop from the Parallel Lines album.

The next track, Dreaming (from Eat To The Beat), is a wistful pop ballad whilst The Tide Is High (from Auto American) is a catchy reggae ditty. Sunday Girl is another lovely pop tune, but Hanging On The Telephone sounds a bit jarring now and Rapture doesn't work for me. One Way Or Another isn't great either, but (I'm Always Touched By Your) Presence Dear remains a masterpiece.

Of the synthpop tracks, Call Me was a huge hit but it always lacked a good melody and hasn't aged nearly as well as Heart Of Glass, whilst Atomic remains at least interesting. In The Flesh and Rip Her To Shreds are excellent early pop-rock numbers from the Blondie debut album and still sound good.

The worst omissions are Picture This, Denis, Fan Mail and Bermuda Triangle Blues, all exceptional tracks from the Plastic Letters and Parallel Lines albums. Although Best Of is an enjoyable collection, Greatest Hits with its 19 tracks definitely has the edge as it includes memorable hits like Denis, Picture This, Island Of Lost Souls and Maria.

The two best Blondie albums are Plastic Letters and Parallel Lines, and they are like greatest hits collections themselves plus they contain great album tracks found nowhere else, such as Fade Away And Radiate and the aforementioned Fan Mail and Bermuda Triangle Blues.

      4 out of 5 stars Hanging.......2005-02-25

Started as a punk group and them slowly becoming a pop group...that's the main history of Blondie. Blondie's vocalist is Deborah Harry, a woman that has also made the songs for Blondie. The first recordings "X-Offender", and "Rip Her to Shreds" has that kind of innocence...they are not the songs that are easily in UK list top 10. The next songs were a little bit more commercial "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear" and "Denis" from "Plastic Letters". Their greatest success was withouth a doubt the album "Parallel Lines"...that's why they are so famous. The PL-songs "Heart of Glass", "Sunday Girl", "Picture This", "Hanging on the Telephone", "One Way Or Another", "I'm Gonna Love You Too", and the peaceful song "Fade Away And Radiate"...that makes seven songs from "Parallel Lines". They are somethin' between pop music and punk rock. The next albums have hits "The Tide Is High", "Atomic", "Union City Blue", "Dreaming", "Rapture" whcih were popular live songs too. After that Blondie's carriere wasn't so good anymore. They started to make too strange songs, just like "Island of Lost Souls" and "War Child". I think this collection would have need "Detroit 442" an upbeat punk song from "Plastic Letters" as well as "Eat to the Beat".

Some Good And Bad Here!!! A purchased this for my collection. It has great sound I have to admit!!!

5 out of 5 stars The many faces of quality Pop.......2004-03-24

For some reason known only to the record company, the tracks on this compilation are not in chronological order. The album thus opens with 1979s synth-rock track Atomic and then moves back one year for the equally electronic but far more catchy Heart Of Glass, the pop and dance classic.

Track 3, Sunday Girl, also comes from the excellent Parallel Lines album, whilst Call Me (theme from American Gigolo) is another electronic dance track that has not aged well because it lacks a good tune. Next comes The Tide Is High, a lilting reggae number from 1980s Autoamerican. Denis takes us back to the brilliant 1977 album Plastic Letters, whilst Dreaming and Union City Blue come from 1980s less than inspiring Eat To The Beat album that also contains Atomic.

Plastic Letters and Parallel lines remain Blondie's best ever single albums, as demonstrated by the beautiful ballad I'm Always Touched (By Your Presence Dear), the snappy pop song Picture This and the dreamy, experimental Fade Away And Radiate. X Offender and Rip Her To Shreds from their 1976 debut show the raw punk promise that was to develop into their delicious take on pop in the aforementioned Plastic Letters and Parallel Lines.

Atomic concludes with two interesting remixes of the title track. Blondie made original and intelligent pop music that encompassed hypnotic synthesizer textures (Call Me, Atomic, Heart Of Glass), melodic ballads (Denis, Presence Dear), rap (Rapture), reggae (The Tide Is High) and punk rock (X Offender, Rip Her To Shreds). This is a great compilation album, like The Complete Picture (20 tracks) or Greatest Hits (19 tracks), and it is difficult to choose between them.

5 out of 5 stars A great very best of Blondie compilation.......2002-09-19

Sound quality is very good and it contains all their hits including I'm gonna love you too which was a hit in Europe, War child is included and the fantastic Fade away and Radiate not a single actually but it's on this CD probably I'm not the only one who think this song is a real beauty.

However a new Blondie Greatest Hits will soon be released all remastered hits, this hitcollection will be updated with Maria their recent UK #1. Fade away, War Child and I'm gonna love you too will not be on that one but therefore you get the US single The hardest part which is a rocky Blondie classic !

It is a matter of choise, my advise: buy the new Greatest Hits collection instead of this one together with Parallel Lines, Blondie's biggest selling album, if you go for the hits !

5 out of 5 stars All the Blondie hits you need on one CD........1999-07-27

This is probably the single best Blondie compilation available, all the hits and none of the filler. All of their best songs like "Heart of Glass", "Call Me", "Rapture", "One Way or Another", and "The Tide is High" are included, as well as some ones that I hadn't heard like "Island of Lost Souls" and "Union City Blue". While "Best of Blondie" is a neat little package, "Atomic" is the most complere Blondie collection. The remixes are not that great, though, but that is just a minor fault. Anybody who enjoys female pop stars should at lease know where they came from. An essential part of any good music collection. But it!
