Album Description
The five-song EP from this NY group contains well-crafted songs of propulsive rhythms, boiling point bass lines, convulsive guitars, and graceful vocals. An exciting forward to a band that promises longevity. For fans of My Bloody Valentine, Interpol, New Order, Joy Division.
Customer Reviews:
Pretty good sampler, hope there's a better album........2006-01-01
Prosaics can easily be compared to Interpol. And it's very true that they both delve into the same gloomy post-punkish arena, both owing much to The Smiths, Joy Division, Bauhaus, & etc. etc. I bought this album after seeing the band play live at an artshow. They're pretty good live, and the music surprisingly sounds deeper live. It may just be bad production but the gloominess they seem to be trying to attain just doesn't quite work with the crunch of their guitars or the lead singer. It's just not delicate enough to capture the atmosphere that they seem so desperately to work after. Teeth is an exceptional track, but their songwriting seems a little to jumpy and poppy. Admittedly Interpol, whom seem to draw upon the same inspirations, have crafted great gothish indie rock songs, but at the expense of critics dismissing their music altogether for so obviously using formulaic structures and well known sounds. Prosaics don't fall into that trap as often as Interpol has, and here I must commend them. But Interpol has grown to be able to use their inspirations in ways that totally freshen what could otherwise sound stale and boring, Prosaics just haven't grown to a point where their songwriting is strong enough to carry the gloominess without blatantly copying another band. But they're extremely promising. The album itself is a lovely black glossy of a Bill Henson photograph. Although this is a pretty good sampler, there are about two really good songs and the rest fall slightly into the filler category, I'm certain that Prosaics will blossom and find more confidence in their writing. I'm very excited to hear a full album by them.
Dark Post Punk at it's Finest!.......2005-02-06
If you like bands like Bauhaus, Joy Division, Interpol you are going to like Prosaics. As soon as I heard this band I had to go out and get this EP. They will soon have a full album in 2005 but prepare yourself for it by listening to this. The guitars are solid, vocals are real smooth and the melodies are so catchy. It is dark post punk but this band puts their own spin on that sound, and I highly suggest checking this out. These are 5 really strong songs, and people who have seen them live tell me that the best is yet to come. "Teeth" is such a cool track. If you like this band, Check out a band called the Organ. They are like a female version of this band. Order this, as it can be hard to find in most record shops!
Ignore the similarities..........2004-11-09
When I came across this trio from NYC my inner hipster was at once appalled at the band's likeness to Interpol: 1) formal dark attire 2) being recorded by Peter Katis at Tarquin Studios CT 3) being signed to Matador 4) being described as another 70s-80s post-punk revival band 5) having very cute faces and perfect hair. But when I bought Aghast Agape and stuck in my CD player, I was blown away. This music needs to be set apart from their image. It is truly special. Buy this EP while it is still readily available, before the hype machine begins. Prosaics are gritty, primal, anxious, and technically competent (more so than Interpol? eek). They sport complex and passionate song writing, and they are not at all oppressive or stiff. My two criticisms: I wish the songs chosen for the EP demonstrated more of the group's variety (I have a feeling the band is sitting on some slower tracks for their LP); and their lyrics, are, well, prosaic (they might be trying a bit too hard). I believe this band will be touring in small venues soon, go see them before you have to claw your way through a larger audience to see. Oh and by the way, they sound NOTHING like Interpol. They sound, well, like Prosaics.
Get in Early on a Great and Promising Band.......2004-10-20
This band has been impressing people since they formed, and even this EP doesn't showcase all of their talents. (Watch for a Matador LP next year). I love the lyrical poetry, catchy guitars and all the Prosaics songs just stick in my head. These three guys are very talented individually and in trio, they just have so much potential. I saw them tour with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, open for Interpol, but at the last CMJ they just ripped and roared and held their own as a solid act. For what it's worth and I think it is worth something, they are really nice guys too (I bought my EP from them after a show).

Customer Reviews:
This jazz duo swings with the best........2002-02-07
Julie and Kelly have elevated the Tuck&Patti formatt of jazz guitar and vocals to a new level. I was impressed and I could hear how much this duo has grown over the years. I was most impressed with their connectivity between improvation and traditional blend style of jazz. Although the only pit fall on the cd is when traditional jazz balads have been given a dramatic finish. Most needed a fade out. Overall this a great cd and I would recommend it to friends.
Naked - Davis and Dow.......2001-08-12
For all of us who remember June Christy and Stan Kenton in "Duet" of the late 1950's, or those who have discovered them, or those who should, Davis and Dow's "Naked" is the new millenium's discovery of what jazz should be. Julie Davis' voice is equally mellow and scat, whatever she wants it to be. Her command over her voice is phenomenal. Kelly Dow's guitar is the perfect accompaniment that has will of its own when they want it to with solos that leave us wanting to hear more of him. Listen to the wonderfully innovative and delightful lead-in to the old classic, Julie London's "Fever," then settle into the sensual sounds of Davis and Dow. You won't regret it.
Davis & Dow are Sensational!.......2001-04-29
The first time I heard them was when they were performing to a crowd of two on an open air bandstand at the Riverwalk in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
After telling them that they were even better than they thought they were, I invested in their first CD.
When they got back from an extended gig in Japan, I invited friends to hear them perform at the Bar Amici Restaurant on Las Olas Blvd. The food was excellent, but Davis & Dow were even better. I was happy to buy a copy of their new release. They keep learning and get better every time I hear them.
When I met them at the restaurant and complimented them on their performance I found out that Julie was the talker. Kelly speaks volumes with his guitar and is content to let Julie make new friends.
If you like to hear the standards done in a jazz style that is reminiscent of Ella, June Christie, Anita O'Day, and Lee Wiley, don't miss Davis & Dow.
Jazz Shines Brightly on "NAKED".......2001-03-23
Davis and Dow's place in jazz history will be most definately assured with their new release "NAKED". Blessed with a wonderfully flexible voice and a natural feeling for swing, jazz, blues and scatt ,unmatched {only by Ella}jazz singer Julie Davis and Kelly Dow on guitar give spectacular performances here on "Naked".Given the subtleties of such material, Davis and Dow try on many different roles, much like actors. The arrangements of each song are so incredible you will encounter many shadings of mood. Always interested in the clear articulation of the words of a song, Davis and Dow graviated to the best lyricists . Julie's vocal qualities served her well on the ballads. "Passion Flower" and "What are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life" are exquisite proof of how well the Davis and Dow magic works. Dow's accompaniment on "Take Five" is pure genius and Davis's scatt is breathtaking! All tracks are equally brilliant due to the manner of how the songs are treated. Each one is like its own masterpiece. The most striking interpretation of "My Favorite Things", I have ever heard! Dow's original "Deja Vu" is haunting. I am eager to watch Davis and Dow's career grow as time and life experience can only enhance their God given gifts. Dont miss these great artists!
Refreshing and Unique!!.......2001-03-20
This CD is wonderfully refreshing! I was really delighted when I heard all of their unique arrangements. I absolutely love Julie's crisp, clean voice! She is truly a purist with a totally fresh style all her own. And Kelly's guitar playing is innovative and powerful. Together they have produced a great collection of favorites. This couple is doing very well and I look forward to hearing as much new material as they can muster. And if any of you live in Florida, go SEE THEM LIVE...they are absolutely mesmerizing!

Album Description
Agape-Agape (Love-Love), originally released in 1983, offers deeper insight into the Popol Vuh machine from that era. Still utilizing a choir for Gregorian chant-like ethereal intensity though they sing in Byzantine scales pianist Florian Fricke, guitarist/percussionist Daniel Fichelscher, guitarist Conny Veit (who came back to the fold after a prolonged absence), and vocalist Renate Knaup delve deeply into the drone world of Fricke's sacred music muse, often described as "cosmic space rock". The new issue is remastered and contains the bonus track Circledance.
All Popol Vuh re-releases are manufactured as high quality collector's series with stickers indicating the bonus tracks. The Digipak spines have a design and when all are put together they form one big picture.

One of the great ones........2007-03-13
This is classic Popol Vuh, not to be missed by any means. Includes an extra bonus track not on original album. Next to "Aguirre - The Wrath Of God", this is my favorite album by the German prog rock band.
A beautiful album terribly remastered.......2005-07-13
The music here is unique, subtle, intense, and very beautiful ... but this "remaster" is appalling. Muddy, like a non-Dolby cassette with the Dolby turned on; detail gets lost in the murk. And the master tapes sound damaged, particularly during the first track (lots of breakup). I have a 15 year old tape of this album, and my cassette sounds better than this CD. Very disappointing.

Product Description
Agape's debut EP is 6 searing tracks of grind-dance electrocore. Fusing noise and dance rock with a nod towards the west coast thrash core scene of the early 90's, agape is probably one of the most intense live acts on the planet. Mastered by Dan Maier (PTBUTET, Gasoline Please), with artwork by Kate Wentz (Kill Me Tomorrow, Tender Buttons) the Agape self-titled EP is not to be missed.

Give Love A Chance!.......2003-07-09
I was given this cd by a close friend of mine. It was kind of strange to be listening to people I once sang under as a member of New Birth's choir. This has to be one of the best instrumental cd's I've heard in quite a while. Actually lyrics would have taken away from the message this cd expresses so well. There is not one song that I didn't listen to twice the first time I played it. I was extremely moved by the heartfelt expressions of love I heard resonating from this cd. The music, though gospel can be listened to while doing any number of things. If you're trying to set the mood....as a backdrop at a wedding reception, driving or just sitting at home chilling. I was extremely surprised to see I was the first one to review it. New Birth...where you at? Spread the word. These brothers are absolutely awesome! Don't say I didn't warn you... be on the lookout for The Catalyst a trio of supremely impressive gospel rap artists. Do buy this project. I promise you, you will be quite pleasantly surprised!
