Scared Straight is a blazing romp through Stooges/MC5-style punk rock. The New Bomb Turks blast away with typical reckless abandon, twisting a handful of distorted power chords into catchy little ditties, while vocalist Jim Weber spins all manner of clever wordplay. Scared Straight is considerably more cleaned up than the New Bomb Turks' previous releases, but it suits the band and the newer material well. The group is still sloppy, but the edges are a little less rough. Aside from the really bad cover artwork, this is a near-flawless, adrenaline-fueled (and intelligent) punk rock album. --Adem Tepedelen --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
