About the Artist
It’s country with a kick, Texas Country, Americana, or whatever you want to call it. And, of course, it's the creative chemistry of four guys from West Texas who together make up one of the Lone Star State's hottest music groups, John Paul Martin & Southbound 35.

The past year they've played Judfest, Top Gun Bullrides, Sandhills Rodeo, and Sul Ross University Rodeo Club Christmas Bash. They have also played private parties for Target Corporation and GE Power Systems. Like a bundle of dynamite, the band has exploded onto the heralded Texas music scene.

They have shared the stage with some of Country and Americana music’s biggest stars, including Pat Green, Dub Miller, Doug Moreland, Charlie Robison, Gary P. Nunn, Rodney Hayden, Blue Edmondson, Los Lonely Boys, Mike Graham, Trick Pony, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Kevin Fowler, and many more of today's top acts. They have headlined shows at many of Texas’ finest venues, including Graham Central Stations, Blaine’s Pub, Gruene Hall, and the Corona Club in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico. They have performed in Texas, New Mexico, and even south of the border in Mexico.

With their performances of dynamic self-written songs, and their energetic stage presence, John Paul Martin & Southbound 35 draws and holds a crowd --- to the delight of the club and venue operators as well as the fans. Graham Central Station General Manager Glen Starnes has recommended Southbound 35 for different local functions needing entertainment, including a private party for GE Power Systems, during the 2002 Permian Basin International Oil Show. Starnes said, "They are unique, have a lot of energy, and the crowd loves them. This band has a very good future.

4 out of 5 stars If you're a fan of country, you'll be a fan of Southbound 35.......2003-03-22

John Paul Martin and Southbound 35 are one of the up-and-coming acts in Texas Country music. Already a West Texas favorite, the band is quickly gaining popularity across the country. 'Jamaica, Texas' is a showcase featuring ten original songs written by John Paul. The band stays true to their country roots, not straying off into the pop-country that can be heard on the radio today. However, they are not afraid to rock on some tracks. In fact, the first track, 'Tailgate Parytin' is a loud, wild, 'Ain't Goin Down Till The Sun Comes Up' kind of song that pays tribute to one of the best reasons for owning a pickup. There are also slower songs on the album such as 'Best I Ever Had' and 'The Tears Look Like The Rain' both of which deal with heartache and lost love. One of my personal favorites is 'Livin on the Caprock,' which anyone who ever grew up in West Texas can relate to. 'Take Me Back to Texas' is another outstanding song. In fact, there is not one song that I skip over while listening to this CD. Often, I listen to all ten tracks, fast forward nine minutes and forty-five seconds into the last track to hear 'Drunk ABCs' and then start over at track one to go all the way through again. This CD is a must have for any true fan of country music. I also reccomend seeing the band live if you have a chance. But, be sure to get this CD.
