Album Description
Rise Against are a political punk band from Chicago who recorded Siren Song of the Counter-Culture with Rage Against the Machine producer GGGarth and Rage and Nirvana mixer Andy Wallace. The four band members came together from punk bands 88 Fingers Louie, Pinhead Circus, and the Enemy, and the emo band Baxter, and play old school punk (e.g., Descendants) with a strong political point of view.
Siren Song of the Counter-Culture has drawn rave reviews from key publications. Rolling Stone praised the band's "rousing, intelligent fury," while Alternative Press said "the band's engrossing hardcore is an urgent siren song that's appropriate for these angst-ridden, uncertain times."

i really enjoy this cd. its been a while since i bought a new punk cd. it enjoys some of melody elements of afi. it has less of the recent clean punk sound that can be heard on mtv. this still has some good aggressive singing with good points calm....
enjoy.
Hit Machines.......2007-06-08
Rise Against is such a versatile band. This CD alone has 3 hit songs on it, each being completely different from the next.
SIREN SONG OF THE COUNTER CULTURE - CD ALBUM.......2007-05-13
LATELY I BOUGHT THIS ALBUM OF RISE AGAINST. THE SERVICE OF AMAZON WAS AMAZING AND VERY QUICK, EVEN SAFE IN HANDLING THE CD. THE ALBUM IS JUST FABULOUS! I HEARD IT MILLIONS OF TIMES, BUT THE SONGS ARE FANTASTIC EVERY TIME I HEAR THEM! GOOD JOB!
Very good album.......2007-05-10
This is a really good CD to get if you are into the whole pop-emo thing. I wouldn't label this as punk (like Sex Pistols or Misfits) because it's more melodic. It's more along the lines of New Found Glory or maybe Pennywise or Bad Religion. It's probably realitively easy to find an mp3 for "Life Less Frightening", which is in my opinion the best song off the CD. If you like the aforementioned bands, then definitely get this, as you won't be disappointed.
Pretty good.......2007-01-10
this cd is pretty good, some really good songs from them thats for sure. if you like hard music you'll enjoy. Swing away is a nice song from them, something new and freash

Album Description
This alluring soprano duo blends the hypnotic voices of Sasha Lazard, whose exquisite voice is rooted in the classical-electronica scene, and Shawna Stone, whose luscious voice has graced international opera houses. Executive produced by Grammy® Award-winner Peter Asher, this duo have found a fresh, original approach to interpreting contemporary songs ranging from James Taylor ("Close Your Eyes") to Radiohead ("Fade out") to John Denver ("Per Te"/ "For You") to Kansas ("Dust in the Wind").
There are also such gorgeous operatic arias as Donizetti's "Una Furtiva Lagrima," an adaptation of Bach's "Air on the G String" and "Stabat Mater [XX]," a revisitation of the 18th century Italian composer Pergolesi.
Customer Reviews:
BREATHTAKING!.......2007-06-27
Some buyers might dismiss this duo as a female Il Divo, but this album proves that they can sing anything - with incredible range, depth and feeling. Their voices are crystal clear and beautiful. Their mix of songs range from "O Del Mio Dolce Ardor" to "Dust in the Wind," and from the lullaby rocking rhythm of "Sleepsong" to the rhythmic pulses of "Stabat Mater."
Among my other favorites: "Una Furtiva Lagrima," "Tiem" (to the tune of Bach's "Air on a G String"), and "Fields of Gold."
Excellent CD - and highly recommended.
Fantastic album.......2007-05-12
Siren has become my new addiction, I have to listen to it at least once every day. Sasha and Shawna are not only beautiful women but have incredible voices that blend perfectly. I'm giving it to all my friends.
Special Stuff.......2007-04-13
This recording is so beautiful. The two voices are exquisite, and the musical selections are varied and balanced, with beautiful arrangements and orchestrations. Sasha and Shawna have mastered a wide range of styles from opera to pop, creating a unique sound that is both sublime and sexy.
Raves for 'Sasha and Shawna'.......2007-04-12
This CD is terrific. These ladies are GREAT together. Out of the 12 tracks, I just love 9 of them and the other 3 aren't bad either!! I can't wait 'til their next CD comes out. I would also like to see them LIVE in concert. Hope they come to Omaha!!!!
A pleasure .......2007-04-06
This two voices are very enjoyable.Starting with "Fade out" that has violins enchanting touch. My favorite song is "fields of gold" that it transports me to other place.Sasha lazard is amazing.I love the two voices when one is singing the other is vocalizing. or when both are vocalizing.
"Per te/for you", I'm speeechless.
"una furtiva lagrima" very nice,They had to show her operatic voices.
"I know it's real" It's going to be my wedding song.
To sum up, this Cd worth every penny.
In contrast, the song "Stabat matter" doesn't fit in the cd concept to me. This belong to "Myth of Red" by Sasha Lazard first solo cd ;that is a conceptual cd based in a myth of some godess .So, you have to buy "The Myth of Red" and 'moonfall" if you lke "Siren"

Released before Roxy Music became a de facto Bryan Ferry project, but after their Brian Eno-influenced art-rock stage, Siren is a snapshot of a band in flux, and loving it. There's little of the boundary-pushing primitivism that marked their self-titled debut. Still, Ferry's youthful edge and the band's rough-hewn melodicism will shock those expecting to hear the adult-contemporary silkiness found on 1982's massive-selling Avalon. Both camps should nevertheless admire this record for so recklessly and beautifully straddling that massive stylistic gap. Featuring their first modest hit in the U.S., "Love Is the Drug," the record overflows with choruses that reveal their hooks slowly while drawing on sunny, spare instrumentation and Ferry's loopy, still-developing croon. As the band wrestles between glam-pop, sleek dance tunes, and shiny, Moody Blues-esque rock & roll, they don't sound at all like a band running from its past. Ferry and his cohorts are just taking back the reins, revealing the brisk melodies and strong songwriting that were the one constant in Roxy Music's lifespan. --Matthew Cooke
Customer Reviews:
The Excellent Siren Album.......2007-07-09
I am very pleased that I decided to buy this album. Amazing to think that it came out in 1975 and yet the music is ageless. It remains an outstanding work by Roxy Music, for me I think maybe their best.
The 1970s SIREN song is alluring you .......2007-02-28
There is no deadly crash on the rocks listening to ROXY MUSIC'S masterpiece SIREN (and that is 1970s top model Jerry Hall posed on the cover as the siren of the title). It is simply one of the most superbly realized Pop Rock albums ever, with 9 perfect songs, including ROXY MUSIC's only USA charting top 40 hit in 1976, "Love Is The Drug" which presages the New Wave as viable product for general consumption by at least three years. Interestingly, that disturbingly insightful tune is without doubt the weakest track on this wonderful album, which says a lot. Followed by "End Of The Line" an unintended and ironic comment upon the band's measured success and eventual decline, that tune subtly segues into the eerie opening of "Sentimental Fool," more Bryan Ferry ennui, which is sumptuously distracting, and then the stunning guitar slash of "Whirlwind" or for that matter "Both Ends Burning" (heavily borrowed by the one-hit-wonder STARBUCK for their huge hit "Moonlight Feels Right" in 1976.) All these songs are tied together thematically in an unprecedented and unexpectedly sleek production that ROXY MUSIC as a band had every right to expect would finally crack the USA market that nonetheless, and unfortunately, went largely overlooked stateside.
Including stunners like "She Sells," the heart-breaking "Could It Happen To Me," and just plain gorgeous "Nightingale," SIREN is a treasure trove of some of Bryan Ferry's best tunes that does lack the unique artiness of earlier ROXY MUSIC releases, and perhaps has a kind of weird, polished desperation to its commercialism. But nonetheless the record demonstrates a band working in the context, and confines, of its era, and exceeds any and all expectations, to yield a finely crafted album that was immediately recognized as a pop masterpiece by those in the know. Ending with "Just Another High," which this album was, ROXY MUSIC never again attained the glories of this record or their earlier releases. Bands simply do not anymore make records as precise, tuneful, and catchy as this landmark album.
lumber up limbo down.......2006-12-07
The first four Roxy albums (Roxy Music, For Your Pleasure, Stranded, and Country Life) are so distinctive and undatable. There's nothing like them - this album, though, sounds like the 70's to me. It's still very interesting, and rather lovely, but it's more of its time than out of time like the others.
However, the first four songs (what was once the album's side one) are fantastic and complement each other perfectly, from the groovy "Love is the Drug" to the yearning "End of the Line" and "Sentimental Fool" (which also turns pretty groovy towards the end) to the chaotic "Whirlwind."
Then there's side two which has three mediocre songs and two great ones, "Both Ends Burning" and "Just Another High." So, the album which began with the goofiness of Love as a drug turns into the melancholy of Love as just another high. I was born as the 70's ended so I wasn't there, but this album seems to BE the idea of the 70's - the self-interest, the constant comparisons of love to drugs, and the careening from hard beats to soft pleas.
It's not up to the heights of Stranded or For Your Pleasure, but it is so enjoyable and with Ferry's ironic/sincere/jive-y voice you really can't go wrong.
Wall of talent.......2006-07-10
3 1/2
Unarguably talented in what they do, I guess the only argument lies within the sincerity of the songs, in which I feel this falls a little flat. Every track on here helps continue the legacy that this band has gained, but the problem with me lies in a lot of the in-between moments. While delivering song after song of well constructed, seamlessly executed, art-pop-rock structured classics, the band's (postured) detached abandon often goes from the alluring high's projected from the superb (though definitely acquired) vocals to the unengaging lows sleepwalking (though again, extremely competent) through instrumentation. It is often a mixed bag with me when it is clear how a band like Roxy Music has that rare chemistry and ability to pull worthwhile songs out of their hats with ease, and yet still succumb to the more inherently shallow aspects of their songs. This is not to say that this album or any of their material can't be damn fun just how it is, simply the inability and frustration of not being able to puncture through to any of the emotional core of it's showey nature, given the potential.
Articulately Passionate.......2006-05-29
"Siren" is a passionate masterpiece. Musically, the songs are a masterful alchemy. Roxy Music melds jazz, rock, disco, and a progressive injection of their own components to come up with the first album to be allegedly coined "New Wave". They were so far ahead of the curve, it would take five years for "New Wave" to become a household term. Singer-songwriter Bryan Ferry's gentle, yet passionate voice gives the songs a worthy desperation. The lyrics, guitars, keyboards, and saxophone skillfully assemble a powerful music voyage. It is mostly a mesmerizing and soaring work throughout. Lyrically, the album is closer to being a concept album than most claim to be. "Siren" tells a story from beginning to end. (The lyrics are written or co-written by Ferry with other members of the band.)
The opening and ending, "Love Is the Drug" and "Just Another High," come from the point-of-view of any bragging lover, but the tale in between is more desperate and interesting, indicating the boasts are mere posturing. "End of the Line" and "Could It Happen to Me?," both fine ballads, reveal a yearning desperation; while "Sentimental Fool" and "Whirlwind" provide evidence of vulnerability from the longing lothario. "She Sells," arguably the best song, demonstrates powerfully and playfully the alienation that exists between lovers. Some other key moments express longing well, including the mesmerizing (and sometimes gauche) "Both Ends Burning" and the poetic "Nightingale". The latter is another brilliant song that builds up to a crescendo of music and emotions. The former is a solid jazz-rock fusion. (Jerry Rafferty eat your heart out!)
Seemingly a perfect album, there are subjectively a few weaknesses. For some "Sentimental Fool" takes too long to get started, and "Just Another High" seems like an anti-climax, but I vote for these alleged weaknesses for their overall effect. "Siren" is aptly titled for its music and for "the cantos"...[they] "jazz...up".

Maybe my favorite.......2007-03-09
From start to finish I still get a rush when I play this album. I own all her recordings, audio and video, and have heard different arguments about over-production on her earlier efforts. This album is a standout from a remarkable songwriter. Check out Wonderlust for a taste of her live performace.
Good Recommendation..........2006-08-01
I enjoy this c.d.. There's a couple songs I could live without but overall - a nice sound. LOVE the song PaperCup and Heart and Shoulder. For the price - the cd is FABULOUS and well worth it.
Hits like a super nova, then disappears.......2006-06-12
Excellent, moody CD that is both surreal and uneven in spots. Not for everybody, but for those who like the neo-chicklit rockers, you might just have a love affair with this collection.
beautiful vocal, great music.......2006-02-05
Heather is very talented in both vocal and song writing this I have to admit. But the reason I gave her four starts instead of five is because she's too much of a chick singer to me. I usually like female singers but this time the "female" part went just a little over the line for me.
Don't get me wrong, she's great, I just didn't have "the feeling" that will make her my favorite. The feeling I got is just that it's too chick-ish.
Perfect for today, but great anytime.......2005-10-04
Nietzsche, meet Heather Nova. I have a CD called `Siren' that sounds great, with a variety of music, all songs written by Heather Nova, that reflect the range of musical interests common to people who were raised on rock 'n' roll. I am most familiar with the first song, "London Rain (Nothing Heals Me Like You Do)." My hearing is terrible, so to me it sounds like *Nothing*heals*when*I'm*near*you.* Either way, it shows signs of a society that knows how to spoil people rotten. Desire is a sickness that says "Keep me in your bed all day, Nothing heals me like you do," which is exactly what the chorus of this song says. The first verse is eight lines long, but the second, third, and fourth verses each have four lines. Nietzsche's great desire for music might actually be the malady that Heather Nova suffers from:
There've been changes beyond my dreams
Everybody wants me to sing
There've been changes beyond my grasp
Things I'm sinking in.
Nietzsche's great insight that we don't have a choice of philosophies, all we can identify are particular philosophers, lines up with the problem in the second verse:
And when somebody knows you well
Well, there's no comfort like that.
And when somebody needs you
Well, there's no drug like that.
London Rain is the sound for verse three and "Nothing falls like London Rain" is the main idea of verse four. The people who want Heather Nova to sing probably want to hear her at night, "So keep me in your bed all day" might be the best way for her to stay healthy, and "I'll close my eyes and sleep" sounds like great medicine. Early in THUS SPOKE ZARATHUSTRA, Nietzsche wrote about a sage who taught, "And avoid all who sleep badly and stay awake at night." (The Portable Nietzsche, p. 140, "On the Teachers of Virtue").
Nietzsche might also be interested in the second song, "Blood of Me," which has a line in the chorus on "You're the truth that hurts." Rain and "You're my medicine" are similar to the theme of the first song. I don't want to make all the songs sound the same. The fourth song, "What a Feeling," unwinds the clock with "And all the birds are in my head." The fifth song, "Valley of Sound," is about music. The sixth song, "I'm the Girl," will sound familiar if you have ever heard:
I'm Joan of Arc, I'm the girl next door,
I'm the mother and the daughter
of the mother and the daughter before.
The twelfth song, "Make You Mine," has a line, "I'm gonna make you mine," finally, after a few "I want . . ." lines, and five "I'll be . . ." lines. The chorus is only at the end:
On another side of time
Before the sea runs dry
On another side of time
Where the love runs high
I'm gonna make you mine
Make you mine. make you mine.
In the chorus of the thirteenth song, Heather Nova sings, "I've been waiting for the sky to fall." Millions of people had that feeling, waiting to see where Hurricane Rita would hit land and cause massive flooding. I probably shouldn't even be on a computer. I see lightning just outside my window and can hear rain pouring down, myself. The final song, "Not Only Human," starts the last verse with "Life is something set to music/I can hear it when I'm sad." This might not be as famous as Joni Mitchell singing, "You turn me on, I'm a radio."

Ragtime at the Magical Kingdoms.......2006-08-23
THIS IS A FANTASTIC ragtime/Disney CD...I am now searching for
anything else I can find by Chris Calabrese, the pianist! It
is right up there with my alltime favorite ragtime CDs...and I
have many! If you like ragtime piano and/or Disney music, this
is a must have! I would rate it at 10 stars if it were up to me!
The BEST Ragtime I have ever heard........2005-10-14
This CD is the most amazing, colossal, and genius display of ragtime that I have ever heard. I bought this CD on Main Street at Disneyland and I need to buy 5 more for all of my musician friends. I am a Concerting World-Champion Pianist from LAs Vegas and it takes a mountain to impress me, but this CD is one of a kind. I am a huge disney fan and piano is my life. This CD is so highly reccomended I would buy it for you if you were my friend. Really it is just Subperb. Chris Calabrese is the finest ragtime pianist alive in the world today.
Bad Piano.......2005-06-20
I have just listened to that CD. I am disappointed. Unfortunately the piano is electronic and it seems played by computer or MIDI sequencer.
What a pity! All the tracks would be better with a real pianoforte.
A real treasure.......2002-12-29
Ragtime is indeed a music that goes hand in hand with the Disney theme parks, and as Chris Calabrese proves, not just with Main Street tunes. This CD was a real treasure to me, because it features some rarer, even extinct attractions, such as "If You Had Wings". This was my favorite Walt Disney World attraction as a kid, but it went belly up when its sponsor, Eastern Airlines, did. It was so wonderful to hear that melody again! Parts of it I had forgotten, but then I listened to this album, and though, "Oh,yeah! That's how it went!" I also liked hearing that catchy jingle from the Rio del Tiempo ride at the Mexican Pavilion at Epcot. Once you hear that tune, it's in your head forever!
It's good Disney, and it's good ragtime........2000-08-12
The upbeat, gentle, main-street American genre of ragtime works perfectly with the upbeat, gentle, main-street American theme of the Disney parks. He doesn't need to sacrifice either to the other, even in such unlikely ragtime tunes as Maroon Cartoon, Golden Dreams, or the Hawaiian War Chant.
You could believe that you're listening to him as you walk down Main Street, and maybe you have.
Then when I thought it couldn't get any better, I came to the final cut -- an interview of Walt, including a short clip of him doing Mickey's voice. What fun!
My, oh my, what a wonderful day.

Congress's most musically talented member.......2006-10-29
I must admit. I was interested in hearing this recording out of curiosity, since John Hall was running for Congress in my district and I become a volunteer on his campaign. A while back, at a campaign event, I got him to autograph my copy of this.
Having said that, I actually find myself really liking the music on this, even though I lean much more in the direction of indie/alternative rock. I remember the two big Orleans hits from my high school days, songs I always found likeable, but the versions here, which are kind of "unplugged," are really great. John sounds really passionate in his delivery of them, and his supporting musicians, including the great Tony Levin, do a fine job in backing him. In fact, I can't seem to stop listening to this version of Still the One; it's my song of the month this month.
Other songs here are quite nice, as well. Good Enough has a great rhythmic line and some good lyrics. The reggaeish Give One Heart is also a really nice song and a nice message. Half Moon sounds to me like it could be a Steve Winwood tune, with some really good singing by Mr. Hall. Two Faced World has a really nice funk sound. And the song Power is great, showing a deep social consiousness, one which was responsible for the No Nukes movement. Overall, this is a really decent record by a really really good guy. (And I rejoice that he won the election, and even got to sing a bit at his victory rally on election night.)
Refreshing.......2005-02-15
Classic radio stations tend to play great songs to death: Mr. Tambourine Man and Turn, Turn ,Turn by the Byrds; Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones; Dance With Me and Still the One by John Hall and Orleans. "Recovered" highlights these two songs and others in new semi-unplugged versions written by John and his wife Johanna and one written with country artist Steve Wariner. Johanna wrote the liner notes telling the history of the songs origins beginning with Half Moon in 1969 which was recorded first by Janis Joplin in 1970 and in 1973 by Orleans.
John's guitar playing both acoustic and electric is full of emotion and with an intimacy that helped me to better appreciate the original versions. He is backed by Tony Levin-bass, Ralph McDonald-percussion, Peter O'Brien-drums, and the incomparable Robbie Dupree-harmonica.
Pop songs in the Nude!.......1998-07-12
With the release of this great new collection of "Recovered" gems, Songwriter/Activist/Sailor/Ski Bum John Hall shows that he belongs amongst the elite of today's finest songsmiths. Along with the lyric talents of longtime wife/partner in song, Johanna, Hall brings sweet harmony and sky high melody to an almost perfect union. If you are a fan of Hall's 70's pop-rock hitmaking group, "Orleans"..remember, "Still The One" & "Dance With Me" ? you will be able to re-visit those old standards with a new appreciation. If You are a fan Hall's early 80's material, you will be amazed at the power that eminates from behind these not-quite-unplugged versions. This album has been in my cd player for days now. In a perfect world, these versions would have been the original releases. Thank's John & Johanna for letting your message of enpowerment & light grace my ears in such a wonderful manner. Buy this cd now...you won't be let down for even a moment!

Product Description
“Siren Songs” is the aptly named latest release by Gretchen Lieberum, a seductive and sophisticated vocalist whose beautiful lyrics and sultry voice evoke a dreamy state of mind. Ensconced in catchy retro rhythmus and a lush soundscape of organic and electronic grooves, Gretchen’s songs have a way of transporting you to another time and place, effortlessly conveying moods and locales of moments gone by, full of nostalgia, longing and love. Comparisons to great songstresses of yesteryear like Billie Holliday are fitting because of Gretchen’s ability to emote, but the music on this record comes off more like Goldfrapp or Zero 7. The instrumentation is beautiful and serene like the voice, but in an incredible counterpoint performance it is not afraid to go to some very dark places such as on the hauntingly spare chords and spaced out vibe of “Can You Hear Me” or in the melancholy musical wanderlust of “Avila.” And in some cases the music is gorgeously surreal, such as in the wave of sound that slowly comes to a climax in her song “Opus.” With new musical ideas and creative interpretations of old Jazz standards, such as in the first track "Key Largo," Gretchen reminds both old Jazz lovers and new Trip-hop gurus that artists can still expand the boundaries of style. The album never loses energy or enticement; it keeps you involved the entire way through, ending with "Grace," a song that leaves you willing to give your right arm to be longer. The songs are all at once lyrical, thought provoking and wonderfully familiar. As she notes in the lyrics of her song “Paper Tigers”: it’s easy to lose yourself in the hazy glow. And losing oneself in the hazy glow of “Siren Songs” is a welcome retreat into this talented artist’s musical soul.

A must own.......2007-07-15
Siren songs played while the many friends ate and drank. One after another they would ask what was playing, "gretchen Lieberum" none of them knew who she was. Siren Songs was a gift from my sister and overall rating its a must own for any lover of, laid back, relaxing, beautiful, chill tunes. Her jazz laiden vocals is perfectly paired with the slight, electro beats, creating pure bliss and sometimes ethereal landscapes in ones mind. beautiful. Shes definitely an artist to watch!Spread the word.
beautiful lyrics and sound to match.......2007-07-09
Gretchen's music is both beautiful and stirring. Her latest CD, "Siren Songs" is a triumph. She stays away from predicable harmonic progressions while lulling you into a trance-like state with her sound and depth. Her music also never gets tired, instead it becomes richer as you listen repeatedly.
Excellence.......2007-07-05
I first heard her music on Myspace, which I suggest you check her out if your still curious about how much she rocks. Her voice is classically beautiful and very strong. I love to listen to this particular album when I'm going to sleep, as her voice is soft and her songs, at times, almost dreamlike. This album is also excellent music to have playing when you have company/a dinner or if you're just wanting to have a little R&R at home. Since I first heard her I have been listening to her almost every night before bed. More specifically I am obsessed with the song, "Can You Here Me" it has a play count of over 100 on iTunes because I have it on repeat when I sleep, I can't get sick of it. The softness of her voice, the deep and rich bass compliment each other to make an excellent lullaby. She is great and I would highly recommend her, in fact I've already got my roommate loving her!
damn........2007-07-05
damn i love this album. gretchen has the sweetest and sexiest(!) voice ever. and songs like 'you closer' and 'grace' are, simply put, romantic lulabys written from a place where dreams come true after all.
Lieberum Serenades With "Siren Songs".......2006-07-06
I highly recommend this album to all jazz lovers or those simply wanting a soothing melodic sound. Gretchen Lieberum sings beautifully, like a real jazz virtuoso, making you feel like your in some 1920's night club with a real jazz band and its ragtime dancers. Lieberum's lyrics paint lovely pictures and metaphors for the senses. Gretchen Lieberum's vocals chill to the bone, including the album's instrumental orchestrations, but do so in a good chilly warm way. One can tell a lot of soul and passion was put into this music. This is an extraoridinary album that truly does speak to the soul.

VIENNAFEST A FEAST FOR THE EARS!.......2000-11-07
Erich Kunzel is the baton and the heart of the Cincinnati Pops. I am fortunate enough to live in the Cincinnati area and have seen and heard the Pops in person. It is an awesome experience. However, if you cannot get to Cincinnati or to one of his on-tour performances, the Telarc CDs are as close to live as you can get! Viennafest is no exception. The care that is so evident on every Cincinnati Pops release is meticulous. The waltzes and marches are melodious and true to the theme of the CD. I eagerly await the release of each Erich Kunzel CD--BRAVO!

Customer Reviews:
Vocal Genius.......2000-09-05
Not only does Jonell possess one of the most incredible voices on the planet, she also brings an intelligence and art to her music that I have never witnessed. I was fortunate enough to hear/see her perform recently in Dallas. Wow! I was weak all over. Awesome!
Absolutely Riveting!.......2000-05-22
I recently purchased the So Like Joy CD, and have been listening to it constantly. Every song is masterfully and powerfully performed by the artist Jonell Mosser. She is tremendously talented and this CD clearly showcases the range and depth of her skill. She sings movingly and from the heart. She is at once earthy and spontaneously soulful. I love each of the songs, but I am particulary drawn to the title track, Ordinary Splendour, and You know Who You Are. Jonell Mosser has a lot of class and quite a bit of soul. You are reminded of Phoebe Snow, Janis Joplin, and Tracy Chapman. What an exciting talent this woman has! You won't be sorry you purchased this CD, so do so immediately!
Charismatic and dynamic!.......2000-05-06
This album delivers an unparalledled performance from charismatic Nashville based Jonell Mosser. A compelling portfolio exhibiting Jonell's abilities in Country, Rock, R&B - and don't forget SOUL!
Her soaring, energetic and powerful voice, combined with dynamic guitar and drum beat - drive your hands together and bring you to your feet!
"Do you Love Me" reminds me of Joni Mitchell. Title cut - "So like Joy," is a wonderful piece that brought tears to my eyes. "Parasite' - will get beneath your skin," and "ordinary Splendor," a duality of reality.
If you enjoy Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin and richly textured songs that are sung right from the soul - you need to get this album.

Customer Reviews:
Tarja rocks The Katacoombs..........2005-10-22
...in my modern Gothic novel, One Star Awake. The Katacoombs being a Gothic/Dark Culture nightclub, in which the likes of Bauhaus, Switchblade Symphony, Nightwish and The Mission UK tend to be played, in a dry ice-drenched wasteland in New England.
In the real world, I must throw myself at reviewer Erica Anderson's feet for recommending this superb band. The combination of Erica's rightful praise of Nightwish (I also ordered their latest DVD) and the title The Siren made me take a chance on this CD single/mini album, as my own book is heavily laced with mermaid/siren imagery.
From the outset, when the band come at you with a chunky wall of cello and electric violin, this CD delivers value off the scale. Tarja's operatic vocals (especially evident on the closing track,) soar majestically over a solid Gothic Rock foundation, and it is a pleasure to have three versions of this superb song, along with an excellent live version of Megadeth's Symphony of Destruction. Dave would be pleased, I'm sure.
While there is a very Germanic feel to the band and even in their looks, they hail from Finland, where they are understandably huge. My copy came through (from Holland, I think) in less than a week, so it's a safe bet to order this and other CDs by the band.
If there's a more beautiful woman in this world than Tarja, I have yet to see her. Having a classically-trained goddess like her fronting a band as powerful as this one, especially given the band's writing prowess, is just about as good as it gets.
Superb.
