4 out of 5 stars our dance class loves this CD!.......2001-08-04

our dance teacher asked us to create our own choreography for this music. we've had a lot of fun with it, it's primitive yet hi-tech, powerful yet beautiful. it's really good for the kind of expressive dance that we do. i'd encourage any dance troupes that are looking for new music to check it out.

4 out of 5 stars music that has something to say.......2001-05-14

i have mixed feelings about this recording, although in general i have a favorable opinion. the title of the recording is "strange, savage beauty". it's certainly strange and savage ... which is cool in its own way ... but it doesn't meet the conventional meaning of beauty. the recording is made with just percussion instruments, so i suppose it was hard to make music that is conventionally beautiful with just percussion instruments. a good deal of the recording is complex rythyms with strange sounds ... only a few songs, such as "random acts of silliness" (which would be great for the Dr. Demento show) are really melodic. As i was listening to this recording, i kept on thinking that parts of it would be really cool in TV commercials or background music for movies ... it's got that soundtrack vibe. anyway, kudos to glossenger for making music that has something to say, rather than most of the bland music out there.

This music is like travelling through a strange land. The cover photo sets the mood ... you are travelling through a colorful, strange landscape. The music, which is just percussion instruments (drums, cymbals, xylophones, electronic sounds, etc.) is really different. When you finish listening to this recording, you'll feel like you've had an adventure. Surprising, there's a lot of humor here, and it's quite musical, considering that it's just percussion instruments. My favorite track is Irrationally Exuberant TechnoRave, which is at the forefront of modern electronic music. The track Monsters Under Your Bed would be excellent theme music for a scary movie. I recommend this to anyone who is interested in adventurous music.

3 out of 5 stars this is one crazee recording.......2001-04-24

this recording isn't something you'd play every day, cuz it's just drums and percussion instruments ... but it's good for variety. i've never heard anything quite like it before. it'll really stretch your mind.
