Opening with the methodical, hard-rocking "Cinnamon Girl"--still one of the singer-songwriter's most-hollered requests in concert--Young's second solo album introduces the cockeyed harmonies and sloppy, chiming guitars of Crazy Horse. His wide swings from soft-spoken country-folk ("Round & Round [It Won't Be Long]") to menacing metal (the punch line to "Down by the River" is "I shot my baby") indicate the multiple personalities in Young's future. His second album of 1969 broadcasts a sincere passion for the peace-and-love '60s (dig the long guitar solos) but also predicts the dark introspection of "Tonight's the Night." --Steve Knopper

5 out of 5 stars Old enough to change your name.......2007-07-19

From the opening seconds of "Cinnamon Girl," it is quite apparent this is not the same young man who offered the searching, uncertain "Neil Young" only months prior. This, the second album from former Buffalo Springfield songwriter, is a dark masterpiece full of beautiful imagery, and lush guitar solos that are dripping with sheer emotion. The production quality is distinctly more loose on this album, allowing the interplay of Young and the newly-named Crazy Horse to shine through in a way that still sounds revolutionary today.

The fact that songs like "Round and Round" are present on this album serve as a bit of a legend for the rest of Young's career. On one hand, you have the dark, hard-rocking band frontman, and on the other you have a sensitive song-craftsmen who molds melodies the way a skilled carpenter does cabinets. This dichotomy will become more and more apparent (and more polarizing) on subsequent Young releases, but here, it simply shows two sides to one of the most deservingly celebrated artists in rock history.

2 out of 5 stars sound quality not good.......2007-06-12

The sound quality did not sound as good as my old album.

5 out of 5 stars a suggestion.......2007-05-30

You know what i think would be great?
If they gave this album one of those "Deluxe Edition" jobs like they've
done with so many others such as the first Weezer album and Blind Faith and on and on. Out-takes,demo's,alternate takes/mix's....it would all be catnip to the millions who love this album.
Actually, now that i think of it....if a "Deluxe Edition" job isn't possible, they could make a nice pairing of this along with the Neil and Crazy Horse at The Fillmore 1970 CD. That would be pretty deluxe!

5 out of 5 stars A Classic----Everybody Knows.......2007-05-14

While sniffing around in the wine cellar, I looked into my considerable archive of music and this one, inexplicably, shuffled it's way off the shelf into my bony hands. Some people say that it's Universal Force and Enlightenment that did it. I suspect Guido from the empty bottles. In any event- it is an excellent choice.
What can one say about this album? Neil Young expanded beyond Buffalo Springfield with this one and, I think, came into his own as a considerable artist in his own right. With Crazy Horse, he examined and extended his creativity with pastoral landscapes, jagged-edged cliffs, outerworldly musings, and just plain country meets city sensibility. Not that it always makes sense, but that people is the magic of music. Interpretation is up to you, not the artist.
Even now, I am awed by the consistency Neil displays so early in his solo career. We are never relaxed, for one moment, that the sequence of songs will resemble sameness in any shape or form. It begins with "Cinnamon Girl" which, in some way, reveals the dilemma that many young people have a problem with. That is the in-between phase of being a child and adult. He wants to spend his life with her, but then again, "Ma, send me money". The need to be free but not quite there yet. This theme reveals itself in many of his tunes. It is a slow rocker but with such a memorable riff. Next up "Everybody Knows", a jumpy, sprightly groove that, again, reveals where he's at - between a dream and reality- essentially nowhere.
"Round and Round" is a slow acoustic sadness that, I feel at least, is about loss. A loss of yourself? Or perhaps someone close. "Down By the River", aside from allowing Neil to stretch his jagged lead guitar, proposes another dilemma for the astute listener. The protagonist is lead to possibilities with this woman - but is her non-compliance a reason to shoot her? Down by the River? An enigmatic song at best and I dare not ask Neil the meaning.
We then get to "The Losing End" which reveals an easy-going country groove with some electric guitars helping it along. The theme? Good ol' country heartache. A mainstay in that genre - now and always. The mood then changes, into some outerworldly, ethereal regret and deception. This song reveals a darkness of the mind, and this is brought forth so effectively with the inclusion of violins. An eerie offering, but so very different.
"Cowgirl in the Sand", I think, is one of Neil's most potent songs. It can be taken on many levels. It is hard drivin' (but, it takes on a whole new perspective if you heard him do the acoustic version). Neil pleads with her to stay in her company. But, her place of command is the desert. Desolation. And, this song tries, desperately, to make her see her worth. Neil knows she is a beauty. She feels she is "purple words on a gray background". I feel that this song is an aching plea. It also allows Neil to experiment with lead guitar breaks, gritty and rough and insistent on it's purpose. In all, a brilliant conclusion to a brilliant album.
This album (plus the next two- After the Gold Rush and Harvest) complete the superb triumvirate of Neil's early career. As we know now, he was to go on to more creative terrain. Some of it successful, some of it not so. In any event, plain and simple, he is an amazing artist and, I think, one of the greats in popular music.
This one is definitely a classic and well worth the investment.
Now - if only Guido would replenish my bottles!

5 out of 5 stars an absolute rock and roll classic........2007-03-30

"tonight's the night" is my favorite neil young album. what's number two, though? "on the beach," "after the gold rush," or "everybody knows this is nowhere." hard to choose from those three great albums. might be "everybody knows..." though. such great songs. such stunning performances. "down by the river" and "cowgirl in the sand" have some of the most originally stunning guitar jams in the history of rock and roll. and the first of those two songs is simply about as haunting a piece of work as you will find in all of the rock and roll canon. "cinnamon girl," with its power chords and great melody is another classic. the whole album is just outrageously fantastic. don't miss it.

Ride was an essential element of the wall-of-sound, trippy, melodic shoe-gazing movement of the early '90s. Nowhere is their best album and is one of the prettiest albums of that era. Songs are psychedelic wash of reverberation, and ghostly, passive vocal melodies. Born from the womb of My Bloody Valentine distortion, Ride tempers their sound with an easier melody, reaching across to the pop spectrum. "Vapour Trail" stands out as the leader of the pack--a gorgeous song that floats and drones in and out of your head like a cleansing fog. --Beth Bessmer

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars The most "pop" of the shoegazers.......2007-04-18

Is this a masterpiece? Not really. Is is great? Yes. Ride was the most overtly pop of the shoegazer bands- they wrapped their strong 1960s-like pop base with a blanket of great guitar squelches and noisy soundscapes.

However, just because it is "pop" doesn't mean it is bad. They cut a good number of strong tunes like my favorite song of the album- Vapour Trail. It is worth getting the album just for that classic song.

Fellow shoegazer band My Bloody Valentine arguably created one of the most supreme examples of shoegazing and noisy popular music in general- the album Loveless. The band Slowdive created the album Souvlaki, which is far more arty, electronic, and subtle than anything Ride would ever create.

However, this is one of the better Shoegazing albums and thus deserves attention from anyone with even a passing interest in the weirder side of the pop spectrum. It is both accessible and fun to listen to.

4 out of 5 stars Ride - 'Nowhere' (Reprise).......2007-01-31

First put out in 1990, as this was the band's first of (looks like) five CD's they released. Considered to be good British shoegazing rock. Think I remember seeing a video of them on the old Alternative MTV Sunday night show. Tracks I was most taken with were "Kaleidoscope", the rather uplifting "Polar Bear" and the uptempo "Vapour Trail". Also liked "Taste" with it's pure pop element intact.Well done.Line-up:Andy Bell and Mark Gardener-guitar&vocals,Steve Queralt-bass and Loz Colbert-drums.Should appeal to fans of My Bloody Valentine,Sundial,Flying Saucer Attack and possibly Oasis.

5 out of 5 stars A classic from end to end..........2006-07-25

Few times can you think of albums recorded as recently as fifteen years ago as classics, but Ride's "Nowhere", with its emblematic cover and its load of anthemic tracks, constitutes just that: a classic album, from end to end. Influenced by the likes of Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine, the album kicks in with the distortion-heavy "Seagull", leading into songs as huge as "Dreams Burn Down" and as deep as "Paralysed". The end result is an overload of shoegazing material that turned out to even influence Radiohead's very own Thom Yorke, who was a fan of the fan before he scored his later successes.

4 out of 5 stars ;alsdkfheohgvask.......2005-12-03

This is a pretty decent album for a bunch of young pretentious snots. I didnt care for it too much when it first came out, but on retrospect, and after hearing it again, I think it stands the test of time and sounds better in my ears than when I first played it. Of course, the vocals are still a little "lite" for me, but the playing is exceptionally decent. A heir to My Bloody Valentine? I would dispute that. If you're looking for shoe-gazey music of quality, you might want to check out Bowery Electric "Beat", later Slowdive "Slouvaki", early Verve "A Storm in Heaven", or even Swervedriver.

4 out of 5 stars Ride's best, but what is that saying?.......2005-10-17

Ride and shoegazer fans love this album, but for me the only two songs worth anything are the Cocteau Twins influenced "dreams burn down" and the glorious "Vapor Trail," for which I deserve a commission from the band since every time I play it for anyone they always go buy the album themselves. A super excellent song, now a timeless shoegazer classic.

After buying into Bush and Alanis Morissette, Hanson is just what we deserve--Silverchair by way of the Partridge Family, the first pretty-boy fake alt rock group that doesn't pretend to be anything but. If only for truth in advertising, Hanson deserves our admiration. But as it happens, Middle of Nowhere, the debut album from Tulsa brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zachary Hanson, warrants attention for other reasons as well. At their best, as on "MMMBop" or "Thinking of You," Hanson makes perfect '90s bubblegum, Jackson Five vocal interplay offset by slick power pop guitars and sharp hip-hop production care of the Dust Brothers. Even the more questionable material, such as the cheesy ballads "Weird" and "I Will Come to You," is--at worst--music for, about, and by kids sixteen and under. Such songs are not only more palatable coming from a 13-year-old than from a post-grad, given the age of the writers, the lyrics are actually pretty darn sharp. Granted, these lads had help with both the songwriting (including veterans Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil on the weakest track) and instrumentation (a full cast of session men) on Middle of Nowhere. Still, as young writers and musicians with an indisputably authentic three-part harmony, Hanson is as real a band as it needs to be. Real enough, at least, to be a perfect antidote to MTV's other poster boys, Marilyn Manson. --Roni Sarig

This CD is Hanson debut. Good music, good CD. Anyone would like it. Especially "Man From Milwaukee". "MMBop" is just a classic.

5 out of 5 stars Hanson.......2007-04-27

Wow!!! I can't believe it! I remember having the casset tape to this. When I first heard them on the radio I fell in love with them. I was in love with the youngest one, Zack. My favorite song was MMMMBob. I remember when I was having daydreams about me and him being married. I know that sounds stupid! But, we all had those days.

Hanson was very awesome back in the day. Those were the good old 90's.

4 out of 5 stars decent bubblegum.......2006-10-18

I'm not familiar with anything Hanson has released recently, but back in the day I distinctly remember when Hanson hit the big time, and a couple of their big hits flooded the airwaves. The radio used to play those few songs over and over but, truth be told, I liked those songs, and I *still* like them.

My friends never liked the band in high school because they weren't cool (my friends, I mean) but when you realize the music of Hanson is just friendly bubblegum pop with a few adolescent ballads throughout the Middle of Nowhere album, you really can't ask for anything more.

5 out of 5 stars hanson is amazingggg.......2006-08-03

i'm 14 and when hanson came out with this cd i was probably somewhere around 5 years old. i loved it then but definately not as much as i do now. these boys have AMAZING talent. they are so passionate about theyre music and seeing them live last year was probably the highlight of my year. i hate when people hate on them and say they have no talent because of mmmbop, you know what mmmbop is amazing and they wrote when they were like 12 i'd like to see those FAT LARDS write something better when they were 12. ok well yea, buy this cd you wont regret it. : ]

5 out of 5 stars It's a corker!.......2006-05-29

When these lovely ladies burst onto the scene with Mmmmbop back in the nineties it was obvious they had a classic on their hands. The other songs on this marvellous album stand up just as well and I think people will still be talking about Middle of Nowhere 100 years from now. Verdict: very good indeed

A captivating hybrid of 80s electronica and aggressive guitars, curiously fused with a cinematic quality of melodic progressions. Their 2005 debut, "Violet" catapulted them into the hearts of not only electronic but rock fans as well. While the band works on their next album for late 2007, Metropolis is re-releasing this out-of-print, self-released 2002 record, featuring early versions of the popular tracks "Happy Birthday", "Horror Show", "Video Kid", "The Dream", and five unavailable since the band's release went out of print.

5 out of 5 stars Great band with big sound.......2006-07-19

I went to see the Kings of Leon at the historic Ryman Theater in Nashville and the Secret Machines opened for them. Not only did they open but they blew the Kings out of the water and in their own home town! This band produced so much sound and rocked so hard I had to get the album. This is a tight great sounding album, put it on loud.

5 out of 5 stars WOW, this album is amazing........2006-05-01

On a surface level you might shrug and go, do we really need another band that draws heavily on the past or a generic overproduced new band that isn't pushing things forward? But look again, this certainly is no throw away, they totally take their inspirations (none of which I can say they individually rip off) but they make an excellent melting pot of heavy, ambient, simple songwriting that just flat out rocks. I have said to friends before that this band leaves the build up out of what you would find in most rock songs and just sticks to the straight up rocking out. And before I fail to mention- do yourself a favor and see them live. This album is an excellent one to have cranking in the house, but this is a show that should not be missed either. As for their new one.... we'll see what happens, this one gets all my thumbs up.

    4 out of 5 stars generally outstanding.......2006-04-27

Some songs on this record keep me pumped up for hours. A lot of simplicity, but these guys play together really well, so they end up with a groove that's almost impossible to articulate with words. Tracks 4, 5, 7, and 8 all get stuck in my head (in a good way) My only reservation is to disagree with what a lot of other reviewers have said- the zeppelin-esque drum sound on the first 2 tracks just doesn't do it for me. When Josh Garza stops trying to channel John Bonham and instead just drive the songs, the album really takes off. In the unlikely event that Mr. Garza is reading this, he's prbably scoffing, but anyway.

5 out of 5 stars Sublime, hazy, sweet melancholy from Iceland.......2007-04-04

I feel lucky i had discovered Bardi's music (he's the genius behind this album). I discovered Bang Gang while i was in Reykjavik visiting a friend and i have been a huge fan ever since. I sampled and immediately bought this in Iceland back in 2003. The CD has lots of beautiful ethereal female vocalists, with lots of melancholy trip hop, accoustic-rock songs and some very dark and bittersweet and seductive lyrics. The mood is somber, hazy, sensitive and emotional.
I just love all the songs. They feature some brilliant vocalists such as Keren Ann, Esther Talia Kasey, Daniel Agust (of Gus Gus fame), Phoebe Tolmer and Nicolette (of Massive Attack fame), so all these international vocalists add a different note to all the songs and they all have their own distinctly different introspective notes. The songs are somewhat dark, lonely, frosty i would say, they are slow paced, contemplative, full of longing.
It's a CD that i just love to put on and relax to on a cold winter day, a CD to relax to and just enjoy. I'm very happy to hear it is getting a US release finally. It's about time...

5 out of 5 stars Stunning... a disc that will get repeated plays.......2007-01-19

I don't usually listen to soundtracks as they are usually just a grab bag of unrelated songs that don't work so well together as a CD and therefore don't sustain my attention for very long. Some of the exceptions would be Samsara, Himalaya (a stunning CD), Baraka, 1 Giant Leap... and now Nowhere in Africa. There's beautiful symphonies, chanting, drumming, occasional bird sounds, native Africans and other effects that evoke whole range of moods and emotions over this powerful, inspiring and uplifting one hour journey. This academy award winning film really touched my heart and I think a good part of it was the beautiful score that accompanied it.

This is first class music that you will play again and again. If you enjoyed the film, be sure to pick up the soundtrack to Nowhere in Africa. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

    >Nowhere In Africa was a breath-taking movie with music that can take you away. This is definately a must-see film. UNBELIVABLE! Now let's get down to the music here, since the product is the soundtack that is being sold here. They have this one voice that sings a song that they play multiple times during the movie. It is made to sound like a child. It goes...

    Eee-OOO Ah.
    Eee-OOO Ah.
    Eee-OOO Aaaaahhhhh.

The sound is just so beautiful. This is the kind of music that is so soothing it could put you right to sleep. But the music is strong and has a message hear of what this family had to go through to survive and what they had lost when their families died when they refused to leave their Nazi Death Chamber. Sad but a must see (and listen)!

5 out of 5 stars "Magnificent score reflects the country ~ Niki Reiser".......2003-05-07

Best Foreign Language Film winner of 2002 from the Academy Award people and nominated by the Golden Globe is "Nowhere in Africa", from director Caroline Link ~ is captivating to say the least. From Nazi Germany one family escapes in 1938 to a new beginning in Kenya ~ from the autobiographical book by Stefanie Zweig is truly an amazing story ~ but wait it only gets better with an award winning score by Niki Reiser, the Swiss Composer who leads the Baset Symphony Orchestra inclusive of sweeping strings and native chants. Very short (less than a minute) tracks of a child singing with harp accompaniment is haunting.

Highlights ~ "NOWHERE IN AFRICA", rhythmic percussion interwoven with the string section, wind instruments join the pulse sating journey ~ "LOVE SCENE", piano solo as strings close in with solace and meditation ~ "JOURNEY THROUGH KENYA", opening sounds of a hoe-down and chants blend within each passage and counter drum beats within the percussion section.

Hats off to Higher Octave Music for sharing this wonderful soundtrack with all the "film-score-buffs" who look forward to unique and global world scores ~ this album will sit on my top shelf for continual enjoyment in the next days and weeks forthcoming.

Sometimes you're in a Stereolab mood, sometimes a Latin Playboys mood, sometimes a Sea and Cake mood. And sometimes you're just the genius that hops fluidly between each disparate sound, making them all continuous--singing a Lorca poem in Spanish, playing in a haze of organ and guitar and fuzzy rhythms. That's Apostle of Hustle for you, the ensemble led by Andrew Whiteman, better known as Broken Social Scene's guitarist. Like BSS, Apostle is a giant mix-up, with spacey interludes of guitar, shuffling drums, and piano right next to a laconic vocal, a voice that gets shoved into choruses by suddenly driving guitars. The highlights on National Anthem are the rockers, "Justine, Beckoning" and the title track, both frontloaded with a wall of guitar that's infused with keys and horns as the vocals peek from behind an artful gauze. This is a visionary album, easy to consume repeatedly. --Andrew Bartlett

      Album Description

National Anthem of Nowhere is Apostle of Hustle's follow-up to their debut album of 2004, Folkloric Feel. On the track, "My Sword Hand's Anger," Andrew Whiteman (also the lead guitarist of Broken Social Scene) "sings that he's `looking for a new technique,' but weighing this track from Apostle of Hustle's second album against material on their debut, it sounds as if he's already found it." - 4 STARS, Pitchfork Media.

On this album, everyone who feels they have no voice or can't be heard, they are suddenly united. They hear the title and something stirs inside them. Then they hear the song and they feel that they "know" it. They meet strangers in nowhere places and will never forget those meetings. They wander out into the suburban, in-between zones and there are welcomed.

5 out of 5 stars The 1990s Best Ska Album.......2005-01-25

I heard Hepcat's first release during the Ska revival that plagued MTV and pop-radio during the late 1990s, when people were force fed crap like Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake, being told how those bands were playing a type of Jamaican music made popular in the 1970s by British bands like The Specials and Madness. Man, comparing that Circus-Music to anything of the 2-Tone era is insulting enough, but putting it in the same category as classic Jamaican Ska and Reggae pioneers like Desmond Dekker (King of the Ska), Laurel Aitken (Godfather of Ska), and the Skatalites ('nuff said...) is an insult to those legends! Luckily, the Ska revival also brought forth bands of such respectability as The Slackers from New York and Hepcat from Southern California. Hepcat, since hearing this album (originally released on the now dead MoonSka NYC lable), has been my favorite ska band, ever! This album still stands as a testament to the vocal talents of Greg Lee and Alex Desert and the early songwriting talents of David Hillyard, who went along to join The Slackers. The group takes its cues not just from Jamaican music legends, but also American Jazz legends, paying tribute to the likes of Duke Ellington in thier music. One of the most soulful, beautiful, and dynamic albums I've ever heard, it is a must for anyone who loves Ska, and especially for Hepcat fans who were never able to find this album, as the MoonSka version (which I'm lucky enough to have a copy of) has been long out of print. Do yourself a favor--BUY THIS! The fact that you're reading this review shows you got taste...now prove it.

5 out of 5 stars This is a CLASSIC, rereleased.......2004-10-23

This album is one of the greatest traditional ska albums ever. It came out once long ago, but the label they were on folded and it became unavailable. If you like any traditional ska, if you like hepcat, SHlT, if you like music in general, this is a great album. Many of today's 'traditional' bands do not retain the moody flavor of O.G. ska straight offa the island. Man, I paid 200$ for a plane ticket to see these guys, which was 10$ at the door. Also, Hepcat broke up, formed Dubcat with Long Beach Dub Allstars, then got back together again because of all the fans' heartbreak. So do em the honor of buying this, who knows it could be the last chance (again)

      5 out of 5 stars A Tremendous Recording.......2004-01-30

I've never heard cello music sound like this. It was first introduced to me by a friend. I don't find his work to be confined to being "New Age" or "Classical". It's very univeral.

Each recording layers intense drones and pluckings of the cello's voice which still have me guessing at how he could create such noises!

It might feel a bit dark and solemn upon the first listen, but its a lot more complex than that. David Darling is a magician of a craftsman, and this record never stops astounding me.

      artist: David Darling
      title: Cello
      label: Editions of Contemporary Music
      [released 1992] ECM 1464 (cd#511982)

Revisiting old acquaintances portends, sometimes, a pleasant journey. I still remember those long lost ECM LP's i had years ago ; for some time, i explore the current ECM catalog which contains many splendid silver discs.

There are things that, for mysterious reasons, did not resurface on the market, such as a fine atmospheric recording by french-horn player John Clark ("Faces" [1980] ECM 1176). Similarly, i regret an excellent album from Arild Andersen ("Clouds In My Head" [1975] ECM 1059). Alas, looks like several great ECM recordings from the LP era will never make it on cd. But, as a consolation, one thing is sure : In the bunch of recent recordings (those of the 'CD era') there are truly superb ones---many of them as remarkable as the first generations ECM's.

That leads us to this admirable recording, certainly one of the great albums on ECM in the 1990's and, indeed, from their entire catalog. Listening to David Darling's "Cello", i felt immediate images ; here the cinematic quality of the music emphasizes communication between musician and listener. The beautifully crafted sonic universe is rendered at no less than audiophile quality level, thanks to Manfred Eicher's production at Rainbow Studio in Norway (top engineering is a usual trademark of this label).

For this work Darling uses the acoustic cello and completes with the aerial and wonderful sonorities of the eight-string electric cello, to which sometimes he adds special effects such as the use of a digital delay. The recording has lots of space, an ethereal, vast and contemplative atmosphere, not unlike that of John Surman's "Upon Reflection" (ECM 1148). To my view, here is music to unfold the sky ; i imagine myself dancing alone, in a field, looking at the passage of clouds above my head, under the winds of a vast autumnal landscape. I don't want to sound esoteric---this music is neither esoteric nor is it really new age... It is pure and simple contemporary in good old ECM fashion.

David Darling succeeds in the presentation of his solo works (more compositions than improvisations, i guess): Darkwood 1 is much like the overture to a classical composition. In fact, the album starts on a mood that recalls the eerie pastoral response typical of the finest classical/folk works from Scandinavia or England. The sonic crossroads of "Cello" build bridges between different styles of music---folk, classical, jazz and world music. The result is an extraordinary sort of contemporary music, in my opinion... The album surpasses the abusive limitations of a definite genre.

"Cello" is all about atmosphere. Still, it is at once strange and melodic. Most of the tracks sound enigmatically distant and sombre like a late November afternoon. I can't think of another record that can bear comparison to this one.

Darling is a classically trained musician who played with the Paul Winter Consort in the early 1970s. He also played music with many notable jazz musicians, including Jan Garbarek and Ralph Towner. This CD shows to great effect the 'verbal' utterance and articulation of this wondrous orchestral and solo instrument. Another unusual and, indeed, essential recording by the ECM label. *****

5 out of 5 stars Soft Cello for the soul and the mind........2001-11-26

Generally I don't beleive that New Age music has to be so Preachy as it tends to do.......after all, not everyone who listens to New Age music listens to it to Meditate or to Reap its universal messege of oneness......I personally dont agree with all that stuff........I listen to it strickly for the peacefullness and to escape from the Rock music sometimes.

David Darling is proving himself in my mind to do exactly what I buy his music for..........I find myself listening to "Cello" in my car in the morning before going into a stressful day of work.
I listen to his music on the way home from such a day also.
I leave it up to God to ease my thoughts and my restless spirit,
However......listening to this music is like taking an Asprin....
it at least gets you prepared for whats ahead and perhaps prevents more headaches to come.

I Own Six David Darling Cds.....the 2 Musical Messege Cd's.....
"8 String Religion"........"Darkwood"........"Cello" and "Cello Blue".
I Can't say I favor one over the other.
David also worked along with my favorite Piano music.....Michael Jones on an LP called "Amber".......I own that on LP but cant find it anywhere on CD..........I highly recommend that to those who enjoy David.

5 out of 5 stars Music to hear a hundred times or more.......2001-04-28

I've had this CD for at least five years and it has never really left my pile of CD's that I listen to on a regular basis. It is quiet but tough and never vapid. There is grit here as well as serenity. I always liked the music in Godards films and several of the pieces here are dedicated to Godard and are very evocative of his films. The best CD I have heard by David Darling.
