About the Artist
One cloudy day not long ago, a song fired up between us. Suddenly it was there, the visitation that arrives from somewhere over your left shoulder once in a lifetime if you are lucky, and hollers out to be heard. And so, these songs are trails to what lives and breathes between us all. We hope you enjoy them.
Album Description
From the undulating mandocello to the electric slide guitar, the strings reach for the sweet spot behind songs about love, loss and growth. Wake Clinard's musical instincts (mandocello, Hawaiian guitar, lap slide guitar, bouzouki) highlight Sheridan Hill's emotional vocals and lyrics.

No Fences captures Garth Brooks just after his initial success yet before superstardom. Though it includes "The Thunder Rolls," another of the pop-country power ballads he'd introduced with "The Dance," No Fences bounces mainly between impersonations--often catchy and engaging ones, but impersonations nonetheless. "Wild Horses" is straight-up George Strait, while "Two of a Kind" and "Friends in Low Places" are John Anderson and Hank Jr. respectively. The best moment, the Dan Fogleberg-like "Unanswered Prayers," relays a message either highly spiritual or hugely rationalized. Regardless, it succeeds because its delivery is earnest, sweet, and humble--something Garth wouldn't be for long. --David Cantwell

I got this CD out and played it and really like it again I like the song Unanswered prayers
Half .......2006-02-15
I wanted to rate this latest release half, (three stars), because Pinoccio only has one woman to complete him right now. This is really starting to show through in his latest cd. The old stuff was FAR better. I love Garth's old stuff.
When Garth meets the other women he desperately needs in his life, and becomes "a real boy" - I will give Pinoccio five stars. I'm sure his music will improve then.
Isn't that what life's all about? Do a little memory dance through life, pat your wife on the head for being a good sport, and keep truckin until the next stop? What an ego! I am asking, because I am not as old as him yet, and I am still trying to learn.
His ex-wife may not be a glamorous singer, but she must be an amazing woman to devote her life towards his happiness.
I guess Hollywood will make a movie soon, and try to make her look evil or something.
Review: Garth Brooks, No Fences.......2005-09-13
No Fences is one of the best albums that Garth Brooks has ever created. He managed to record an album that appealed not only to his normal country listeners, but the pop crowd as well. This is shown through the album's sales and numerous number one hit singles. The title of this album shows off Garth's ability to not be pinned down to any one type of music style. This is shown by contrasting "Friends in Low Places" with "Thunder Rolls". While "Friends in Low Places" is a fun and energetic song to be played in a local country bar, "Thunder Rolls" has a much more serious and somber tone because it is about a cheating husband.
While there is no question that Garth is a country artist (in fact many consider him to be THE country artist), he also tries to tie in other sounds from other genres into his music. This is evident in his number #1 single of all time, "Friends in Low Places". He combines his tried and true county sound with a lead guitar, piano, and a violin to create a catchy tune that almost anyone can enjoy.
The main reason Garth is as big an artist as he is because of his voice. He can make you cry and be overjoyed all with his voice in a matter of minutes. The song "Unanswered Prayers" is about how lucky he was to have his initial prayers of love unanswered, because it lead to him finding true love and his wife. While listening to the song, you cannot help but feel the passion that he does while he sings.
Garth wins friends in many places.......2005-07-08
Country music changed forever in 1989, led by Clint Black with his hugely successful debut album that spawned several number one country hits. Garth started at the same time as Clint but his debut album, while also very successful, didn't do as well as Clint's album at the time. With his second album (this one), Garth took country music to a level of popularity never previously known and became its leading star for much of the nineties. Indeed, Garth outsold all pop singers in America for a few years. I don't know how many copies this particular album has sold but I know it passed the ten million mark long ago. I was one of the early purchasers but, brilliant as it is, I never expected it to become that popular.
The four big American hits are The thunder rolls, Two of a kind working on a full house, Friends in low places and Unanswered prayers. None of these songs made the UK charts. Garth was unable to reproduce his American success in Britain although he eventually made the UK top twenty with a song from a later album. Friends in low places is a classic lightweight drinking song that Mark Chesnutt recorded at around the same time. More dramatic and equally brilliant is The thunder rolls, about a woman waiting for a man to come home safely during a stormy night - he does but she realizes that he's been cheating. Another classic is Unanswered prayers, in which Garth shows his gratitude for not having his old prayers answered, preferring his wife to an old flame. Sadly, Garth and his wife eventually went their separate ways some years later. Two of a kind working on a full house uses a poker game analogy to describe a couple in love although it makes no mention of a family, which you might expect from the title
Quite apart from the hits, there are other great songs here including New way to fly (about people looking for love that lasts), Victim of the game (about cheating), Wild horses (about a man's love of rodeo), Same old story (about a one-sided love), Mr Blue (a cover of a fifties pop song) and Wolves (about rural hardship - this song is by the brilliant but obscure singer-songwriter Stephanie Davis).
If you enjoy Garth's music, you should definitely buy this album, which is a classic.
Garth's Best .......2005-07-02
Garth Brooks is to Country what the Disco era Bee Gees are to Rock 'n' Roll: the music made pure pop drivel and/or a reflection of the lowest common denominator tastes of the market at the time. Garth is Country Lite and cutesified; which means that continuing the beer analogy, Garth is not merely Lite; he is also Lite without any trace of alcohol and way too much sugar and gawdily colored packaging. If, as Bono says, all other singers are sissies compared to Johnny Cash, then Garth, based on his choice of material more than his voice, is the biggest sissy who ever released a #1 Country album.
That said, No Fences is the best Garth album (of the first 5 he released; after that, I refused to bother giving a listen). That is so, I think, because, as David Cantwell says, the album is slightly more mature than the debut album but before the massive superstardom that allowed Garth to indulge all his apparently bad taste.
Even when he records something that in the hands of a real Country singer who exudes character, such as 'Friends in Low Places,' could be quite interesting, an astute listener will see in his mind's eye a picture of a freshly scrubbbed Mama's Boy donned with cowboy hat (like PB&J eating Leon on Andy Griffith) doing his best to sound tough and independant like his older brother, convincing only those who either wish to be duped or don't know any better.
Avoid this pop-Country tripe and purchase something worth hearing.
