Chosen People
Editorial Reviews
Album Description
'Chosen People' delivers an insightful and introspective look at life, love, and the vicious hand dealt by each. Born of frustration and discontent, this album is a sobering dreamscape, awash with emotions and full of richly textured and fantastically orchestrated melodies.

The CD I waited 20 years to buy. Just as great as I remembered it!!.......2007-04-09
I was just a kid in the 80's when I got this album on tape. It was a huge influence on my musical taste and life. Most of the songs on this album I still remembered -even though I hadn't even listed to the album in 20 years! I have been looking for this on CD for quite some time now and finally found it. Well worth the wait and just as good as I could remember it. Quite a clean remastering and one of my favorite albums of all time.
Dave shows a different side as a soloist .......2006-04-19
This album shows how diverse Dave is as a soloist. Listening to this and his two earlier efforts reinforces just how much he contributed to the Kinks. His guitar work speaks for itself and his songwriting is very strong. He shares his views, beliefs and personal experiences intertwined with some really haunting melodies. All of his work is worth listening to as well as his live performances. He doesn't disappoint. Lets hope he gets back on stage real soon
Metaphysical musings and enjoyable pop from brother Dave.......2005-09-29
It's nice to finally be able to hear Dave Davies' "Chosen People" after the album being out of print for two decades. It is certainly more accessible than his first two solo efforts, which sometimes buried great songs in murky, plodding production. For "Chosen People" Dave brought in a full backing band instead of playing everything himself in endless overdubs, and the result is a tighter, crisper, and far more lively sound. Dave also turns in some great vocals, especially on the haunting "True Story" ("Are you talking to me?"). There's a good mix of rockers and ballads, but not much of the heavy metal that characterized his previous albums.
The songwriting here is fairly solid (but not as consistently good as the high water mark he would hit on his next album, "BUG"). And as always, Dave's heavy-handed peace-and-love preaching is leavened with enough mysticism and UFO lore to keep things interesting!
Overall, this is a good-but-not-great set sure to please diehard Dave fans, and probably inconsequential to anyone else. Go for "BUG" first.
Dave's third and best 80's album.......2005-09-14
Chosen People is easily the best and the most accessible of the three albums Dave recorded in the early 80s. While the first two albums sounded like heavy metal work outs, with the third album Dave chose to introduce acoustic guitars, keyboards and strings. This makes the album more diverse and the songmaterial is more mature and much stronger. Would be nice if Dave would add some tracks of this album to his setlist if and when he goes back on the road. Cheers dave!

Cool Sdtk...But..........2006-10-04
I'm gonna keep this one short & sweet...I'm a lifetime fan of Star Wars, loved the music as much as I've loved the movies themselves, sought to buy the original scores, had to choose between the real deal and this one, saved 20 bucks buying the Story Continues, and loved it from day one. However, once listened to a few times from start to finish one can't help but spot the obvious, while this is an awesome production and re-recording of the original scores, the Global Stage Orchestra relies solely on synthesized instruments and you can feel the absence of REAL instruments. But it's still a keeper...especially for the Imperial death march. ~*REDD*~
Actually a decent re-recording of classics.......2006-10-01
Let me start out by saying that this album isn't nearly as bad as many people are saying. I bought it about a year ago at a store up here when the initial album I was looking for was sold out. Not wanting to leave empty handed, I glanced around and found this totally by chance (maybe the force made me find it, who knows:)) and decided to give it a shot.
I wasn't entirely sure of what to expect when I put it in once I got back. Initially after the first fifteen minutes of listening to it, I started to feel as if I maybe should have bought something else, BUT at the same time it was still catchy enough to leave in until the end of the first disc. Before I knew it, I listened to all three discs in one sitting while working on a paper and I must say, it was definitely worth whatever I payed for it.
The music is different enough where if you're getting tired of listening to the same things over and over, you can put it in and not worry about listening to something you've heard millions of times over. However the music is similar enough where if you're in a Star Wars mood, you can put it in and still be satisfied.
The "sythnesized" Star Wars sound is very catchy after a while and a very good addition to any hard core Star Wars fans' collection, or just to anyones collection of music in general. It's interesting to hear how the music is still able to catch all of the emotion that is in the original soundtracks (especially in Episode III) and still sound different. I will admit that the tracks seem to be a bit out of "order". While episodes 4, 5 and 6 come first (which is fine) episode 2 is next, followed by 1, then episode 3, and then back to episode 2 again. Not sure why this is, but it's not a real big deal, just a little odd. Definitely worth buying if you're into collecting all things Star Wars.
Fake instruments leave much to be desired.......2006-01-21
The synthesized instruments sound horrible. First off, when I bought this, I saw the name "Global Stage Orchestra" and was looking forward to hearing an orchestra -- of real instruments. What I was in for was a bad synthesized interpretation of John Williams wonderful music. If he were dead, I'm sure that he would roll over in his grave.
Many instruments sound so bad that it's distracting. For example, the smooth woodwind lines in "Duel of the Fates" sound detached and mechanical. Some brass instruments (which Williams uses liberally) sound more like car horns. Obviously not put together by a vocalist... the rear cover reads "MUSIC AND VOCALS PERFORMED BY THE GLOBAL STAGE ORCHESTRA." Apparently vocals are not music... which may be close to the truth in this case, since the vocals sound like hollow midi sampled voices. With so many great recordings out there... spend the extra few dollars and get a recording from a real orchestra.
The Force is NOT strong with this one..........2005-07-11
My friend loaned me these CD's recently, and let me say they are nothing compared to the original soundtracks.
The recordings sound actually half decent for synthesized instruments, but after hearing the superb London Symphony Orchestra in the original recordings, any artificial orchestra (and even some real orchestras!) is a real let-down. Especially painful are the sequences which call for lots of brass; the LSO was so great at delivering a theme at full blast in an intense action scene, and the MIDI brass just sounds cheesey. The interpretation is poor in a few key sequences as well, too.
Star Wars fans really deserve better than this; get the re-mastered trilogy set:

up to date with revenge of the sith.......2005-06-01
I just purchased this 3cd set while in Europe. It's indeed not the original soundtracks but high-quality "studio orchestra" selections from all 6 of the Star Wars movies, including R.O. Sith, mastered in SBM 24 bit sound. A good listen for Star Wars and John Williams fans at a nice price, attractively packaged in a 3 cd fold out digipack.

Customer Reviews:
Breathtaking Solemnity.......2001-01-25
I don't know a word of Russian language. I love serious choral music which is appropriate for worship. I am a choral singer. This recording and all the others in this rich series, hover over the listener and reverberate in the soul. The absence of the distractions of instruments is so subtle, one is well into the listening process before the realization that it is the human voice, and the human voice in agreement, which dares to approach the Throne of God. If these choral scholars are not devout Christians, they certainly fooled me. It is ethereal, robust, and earthy, all at the same time elevating in the transmission of devout worship. This is the music I use to meditate. This is the music I play in my ear as I drift off to sleep at night. I feel that this music and the music in the entire series is transcendant of culture and language. It probably is transcendant of sectarian or denominational belief. What a treasure they have revealed to these poor, simple ears!

great electronic and guitar fussion style of music.......1999-09-22
Echo Stylus cannot be labeled into one catagory, all the music is electronic based (what I mean by electronic based is that made with keyboards and samplers not "electronica" as in techno). Very dreamy guitars and synth sounds. There's some shoe-gazzer (Slowdive, My bloddy Valentine) type songs, a bit of trip hop, Depeche Modie sounding tracks and even a bit of gothic/industrial. Even with all these different styles all crammed on one album, Echo stylus still put his own trademark on each song so it doesn't sound like a compilation CD. Definetly recomending for people who like REAL "alternative" music.
Perfect CD! Sonically perfect production........1999-09-22
This CD is a must have for those of us who appreciates great artistic music. Deep lyrical meaning with supporting melodies and groove. A definate must have.

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic Album.......2006-03-01
I have known most of the guys for years, went to school with one of them, and they have come a long way. They deserve the very best, and if this album is only a start or a hint of things to come, they are destined for greatness. Their head singer has great vocals, and his brother the lead guitarist comes up with some of the most creative riffs and solos. Chosen X is easily a fan of those who like NFG, Rufio, or any other band that is emo or emocore, even metal fans will find some metal in their songs. Get this CD while it last!
