Back in 1990, three of the world's most celebrated tenors--namely, José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti--combined forces to create the Three Tenors, now celebrated on a best-of CD. They gave their first concert in Rome. The event was recorded and went on to become one of the best-selling classical titles of all time.
This latest release brings together tracks from that night in Rome (including "Nessun dorma" and a competitive rendition of "O sole mio") with music performed in a 1994 concert in Los Angeles and at the 1998 event in Paris where the Three Tenors sang to an audience of thousands with the Eiffel Tower as their backdrop.
The 22 tracks making up The Best of the Three Tenors range from operatic standards, such as the joyful "Brindisi" from La Traviata, to popular songs like "Singin' in the Rain" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" (from Carousel). There are no solos on this disc; each piece is performed by all three singers. And with plenty of applause and cheering to be heard, not to mention the sense of fun in the singers' voices, the disc captures the atmosphere of these extraordinary musical events. --Rebecca Agnew
Customer Reviews:
Nice songs from this album.......2007-07-22
This is the first album I have acquired of the Three Tenors, and it was wonderful. The selections were easy to listen to and familiar to me. None of the heavy operatic selections. It is the best. I will buy more albums of them.
Not bad.......2006-03-18
This is a good recording. If you don't like the 3 tenors, then look else where. It's that simple. These are recordings from concerts where they WERE supposed to show off. This ain't opera. If you want opera, go out and attend one.
The best from the three greatest..........2005-08-11
The first thing we must establish here is that this is not meant to be opera. This is three exceptionally talented tenors enjoying themselves and giving tremendous joy to those listening by singing mostly popular "evergreens" and also some operatic arias. The beauty in music lies in the diversity, in my opinion. One can better appreciate one type of music when one knows about the others. And why should we limit ourselves to listen to just one genre in music. It would be the same as having steak for dinner every day for the rest of your life, wouldn't it? So why should we limit three wonderful tenors to only sing operatic arias for the rest of their lives? If so we wouldn't have "Maria", "You'll never walk alone", "Singing in the rain" or any of the evergreens on this recording and that would be a shame.
There are no solos on the cd. I think I've read somewhere that they felt there had been enough "three tenors cd's" and if they were to release yet another one it would be one containing what the audience demands, the three of them joining forces and performing together in the songs.
The result, in my opinion is highly recommendable. The three voices blend perfectly together. I have to admit that I have a personal favourite among the tenors and that I would never buy an entire recording featuring only one of the two others, but I recognize their talents and -as stupid as it may sound- since they are performing together I can also appreciate the other two. (I like them too, but in smaller doses....)Some people have commented on their problems with mastering the english language. If anything, I think it just adds to their charm. By the way, who is perfect??
The songs on this cd is a mixture of beautiful songs, heartwrenching songs, toe-tapping songs and powerful songs. It's wonderful to just listen to the beauty in the three voices. It's fun hearing Pavarotti pushing his "high-note-button" in "O sole mio" and Carreras and Domingo copying his stunt. I have no idea what they're singing about in "Manha de Carnaval", but boy does it sound romantic...... And "Dicitencello vuie" brings tears to my eyes (even if I'm still left in the dark when it comes to understanding the meaning of the words...) In "Because" Carreras takes my breath away when singing "because God made thee mine, I'll cherish thee...through light and darkness, through all time to be, and pray his love may make our love divine...." (What woman wouldn't like to hear those words..??!?) Their rendition of "You'll never walk alone" should satisfy some of the soccer-fans since it's the anthem of a European football-club and "Nessun Dorma" will probably satisfy the rest of the soccer-fans, being the antheme of the 1998 world soccer championship. In short, there should be something for every taste on this cd.
It's a very "versatile" cd. You can play it almost everywhere. You can sing along to it in the car, you can dance around the house to it while doing your chores, you can put your feet up and unwind after a hectic week. Or you can write an Amazon review while listening to it.... (Feel free to add suggestions of your own here.....)
To make a long story short - a very enjoyable cd!
Just Like the Real Thing!.......2005-07-14
A few years ago I was lucky enough to actually see a Three Tenors concert. The experience was amazing. Later I bought this CD. I was so happy when I listened to it because the CD captures the mood of being present at the concert. I like the variety and every time I play it, I am taken back to my personal experience at the concert. Hearing the audiences on the CD really gets you excited about hearing this amazing trio.
Powerful and moving!.......2004-10-21
I got this CD as a gift and it changed my life! I was always a rocker and liked classical music, but never was much into this genre of music. This album changed all of that. Since getting the three tenors I've found a whole new world out there. Thank you guys!

And now that I'm an icon let's make some art.......2007-03-16
For all of the earthshattering impact that Purple Rain had on the popular music universe, Around the World in a Day seems to be the Prince album that means the most to me these days. "Condition of the Heart" is really the core of the album for me. We have the Indian influenced title track and then the Beatles-inspired "Paisley Park" and "Condition of the Heart" just changes everything up totally. I've had some deep conversations with a good musical friend about this track and what it means and how the operatic quality of it totally meshes with the lyrical content. It's saddening and deep and meaningful and helps hyperintellectual cats like myself find connection with the sadness and blues and Spirits that we wrestle with when we meditate on the frustrations of love.
And the rest of the album is pretty good too. "Tambourine" is an oft-overlooked track, but it hangs will with future spare funk jams like "Housequake". "Pop Life" and "Raspberry Beret" are the two killer singles. "America" is really filler to me and stuff like "Partyup" on "Dirty Mind" puts it to shame.
This album is not as airtight as "Purple Rain" from a pop perspective. But Prince showed a lot of audacity going for a sound like this after The Industry expected him to just keep cranking out singles like Michael Jackson went "Bad" after "Thriller".
And to think in one of my previous musical philosophical incarnations I though Prince was profane and I couldn't dig it...
Ashamed to think about that looking back....
5 stars

Around the World in a Day..........2007-02-15
Bought this remastered ($7US). This album for me yielded two tunes:
1. Raspberry Beret (good song...weak video)
2. Pop Life (an interesting song, if I do say so...)
Still, this is Prince. No one could really match the body of work that the man had put out up until this disc. Three stars!!
Uncompromised.......2006-04-04
It's amazing that a musician as sonically adventurous as Prince would become one of the biggest pop stars in the world, but in the 1980's that's just what happened. And yet at the height of his popularity, Prince never seemed to try to cater to the masses. "Around the World in a Day", which followed the runaway success of "Purple Rain", is evidence of Prince's uncompromised vision. Easily the most experimental album of his career, Prince combines Beatles-like psychadelia (the title track), classical music ("Condition of the Heart"), political protest ("America"), standard Prince libido ("Tamborine") and good old-fashioned pop ("Raspberry Baret"). "ATWIAD" is second only to "Sign 'o the Times" as my personal favorite Prince album.
This album is so beautiful........2006-01-19
I love Prince music. Some looked at this album as a step down from Purple Rain but that is complete b.s. It is more of a creative artistic move from Prince and The Revolution. My personal favorite track is The Ladder. The back up vocals are superb from Wendy, Lisa, Susannah, and Taja Sevelle. I love it.
Welcome to Paisley Parc, The World of Prince!.......2005-11-29
After the albums 1999 and Purple Rain, Prince was already multi-selling superstar and he could basically do what he wanted, he went one step further again and released a album that is pop-psychedelic with songs simular to Beatles "Sgt. Pepper" but with more pop. This album wasn't the biggest hit and critics often critisize it for it differences from previous albums. However, they're all wrong. This album is fantastic, both musically since it feautures loads of fascinating instruments and lyrically it explores new levels of Prince's brillianct song writing. The colourful cover of this album is a good way of descibing it's versatility. "Around the World In One Day" is too unique too not be enjoyed.
It starts with the title track, it got both African percussion, flutes and a whole lot off odd instruments. It stands for a good intro to what is coming. "Paisley Parc" his second song was also his new label. Musically it gives a good preview on the psychedelia. The song is about an utopia, (an alternate world) where everything is good and people get along. "Condition of the Heart" is a ballad, it starts with piano 2:30 minute before he starts singing. This melancholy song is exceptionally long, no hit single but good ballad. "Raspberry Baret" was the big hit from this album! And listening to it you can understand why, it's cathcy as hell. "Raspberry beret, The kind U find in a second hand store
Raspberry beret, And if it was warm she wouldn't wear much more"
"Tambourine" is really odd, but coming from Prince and this album in particular I'm not surprised. "Close my eyes what's it like,What's it like inside your tamborine?" and "All alone by myself Me and I play my tamborine". "America" is funky as hell (Especially it's riff), the song itself critisise political America and it's fight to destroy communism in the 80's instead of taking care of it's own citizen. We can draw paralles today to the Iraq War that's been a political priority. "Pop Life" is my favorite pick of this album, it's a very cathcy song and it's about how celebrity status can change people's life for the worse. So true.
"The Ladder" is simply amazing, it a slow paced song that feautures saxophone, it's starts spoken where Prince desribes a king from the land of sinapeny that didn't deserve to be. He doesn't do anything right and does not know where he comes from. Neither the love from Electra is adeqaute for him, all he wants is "The Ladder". The song is about finding yourself I think, and finding the right path in life. Something that is very difficult, for everyone. If you wanted something very heavy, the you got it with "Temptation". It feautures horns and heavy guitar riffs. The song is about what the title suggest.
Overall, A diffrent but fantastic album, Prince had the guts to record a very unique album, both musically and lyrically. The album is not as much about tabu's and sex as other album, this one's more political and personal. Before you listen to critics, listen to the album yourself and you should enjoy this other side of Prince.

It's not opera; it's not a pop concert; it's not Broadway. It's all of these and none of them. Once you accept the fact that this sequel to the original blockbuster concert recording is less about music and more about entertainment and the power of musical personalities, you can appreciate what you're hearing as an event--phenomenal and bizarre, momentous and frivolous. This is an occasion to celebrate the voices and egos of three huge superstars, and to have fun listening as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras interact, bouncing lines off each other and playing to the overwhelmingly enthusiastic audience. Much of the fun and flavor of the concert is dependent on seeing the action, though, and without the visuals you notice flaws in the singing much more. Domingo comes off as the more solid performer, and his voice is in far better shape than the other two. But if you crave big, high, and loud--and you don't take your opera too seriously--you'll love this disc. --David Vernier
Customer Reviews:
The Three Tenors has/have become a cottage industry, churning out one CD after another for every imaginable event and in every combination. This does not mean that the results are necessarily inferior but it does imply a commercial, layman's approach. And maybe this is better - spreading the joys of fine music to the masses. After all, where besides figure skating and cartoons do most people have a chance to even hear opera?
This event, like the first one in Rome, has a magnificent setting but, like Rome, the show was marketed mainly to the American audience. They still include the dreadful "Maria" with the hilarious pronunciation and even added "With a Song In My Heart" (or, as Carreras is wont to sing, "Weeth a Soeeng een My Haht"). Though some may deride the choice of encores, they were almost perfect. The Three Tenors, despite their prior celebrity, are creations of our culture of entertainment in ways that Caruso could only dream about.
Synopsis: Carreras stands out, Domingo substitutes volume for quality and Pavarotti soars when he doesn't have to.
The Most Enjoyable Evening IN !!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-05-01
I am not a regular Opera fan, hoever these THREE are the Best. their songs they sing together are SUPER!!! And the range of NOTES REACHED ARE REMARKABLE. tHE MIXTURE of songs is a treat for all, even if you are not an OPERA FAN!!!! Great show!!!!!!
Hmmmm...........2002-04-21
Not what I thought it was going to be. I like only about 4 of the 20+ tracks on this CD. I shoudl have just bought the DVD instead and actually watched them perform. Much, much more entertaining.
Last Encore of songs missing off C.D........2002-02-06
The Three Tenors are my absolute favourite singers. The 1994 Concert was undoubtedly their best in my view. I taped this live concert from the television, and have played and played and played it!! I also taped it on a cassette, however, when I bought the C.D. I was really disappointed that they did not include the last set of encore songs, which included O Sole a Mio (don't know if I've spelt that correctly), where Placido and Jose try and outdo Luciano!! It received such a fantastic reception from the crowd, (one of the many standing ovations), and really showed how much the Three Tenors seemed to enjoy performing the concert. How come this was not included? I don't know if it was on the Video because I play my own.
Many thanks for your time,
With kind regards,
Pam Sargeant.

Long out of print in the U.S.! Out In L.A. is a virtual alternate audio history of the band, focusing on non-album tracks and remixed and alternate versions of tracks not normally included on RHCP compilations. For starters, six of the songs are unavailable on any of their albums in any form ('Blues For Meister', 'You Always Sing The Same', 'Stranded', 'Flea Fly', 'What It Is' and the seasonal favorite 'Deck The Halls'). Also featured are remixes of 'Higher Ground', 'Hollywood Africa', 'If You Want Me To Stay' and 'Behind The Sun', plus live versions of 'Castles Made Of Sand', 'Special Secret Song Inside', and 'F.U.'. This CD even contains demo versions of 'Get Up And Jump', 'Out In LA' and 'Police Helicopter' amongst others! A treasure trove of RHCP gems at your fingertips! EMI.

Editorial review error.......2007-07-03
in the Editorial review it said that the songs You Always Sing the Same and What It Is (a.k.a Nina's Song) are unavalible on any of their albums in any form. Wrong. the chili Peppers debut album The Red Hot Chili Peppers has You Always Sing the Same as the 10th track and on the 2003 Remastered version of the album, it ft. What It Is as a bonus track. get it right amazon. although i dont own this album(i do however, own The Red Hot Chili Peppers, What Hits?! Stadium Arcadium and jus ordered One Hot Minute) any rhcp fan could figure this one out. u can do better amazon. get it right
Some interesting work, but ultimately superflous........2005-09-27
A disjoint collection of demos, remixes, and live tracks, most of which surfaced as b-sides or ended up as bonus tracks to the recent remasters of the early Red Hot Chili Peppers catalog, "Out in L.A." is of limited value. I'll approach each of the three portions of the recording on its own.
The remixes I have little interest in, but this is pretty much a consistent thing with me, I'm generally not big on remixes. Two of themixes (the extended dance mix of "Hollywood (Africa)" and the Ben Grosse remix of "Behind the Sun") make minimal adjustments to the piece, whereas "Higher Ground" receives a near rewrite in the 12" vocal mix (Flea's prominent slap bassline is totally removed) and the Pink Mustang mix of "If You Want Me To Stay" turns the piece into a hip hop beat and sound effects. None of these really contribute much to the band's catalog.
The three live tracks fare a little better-- I've never cared for this recording of "Castles Made of Sand" (which also ended up on the "Mother's Milk" remaster)-- Kiedis always sounds a bit slurred and goofed on it, but the live recording of "Special Secret Song Inside" (sometimes referred to as "Party on Your P***y") is spectacular, full of energy, and "F.U." (a setting of rather odd lyrics to Thelonious Monk's standard, "Bemsha Swing") is unique and goofy, and certainly worth a listen. Neither of these two are available anywhere else.
The remainder of the album is given over to twelve demo recordings from 1982 from before the Peppers' debut album, recorded by the original band (Anthony Kiedis, Hillel Slovak, Flea, Jack Irons). Seven of these tracks ended up on the "Red Hot Chili Peppers" and "Freaky Styley" reissues, limiting the value of this set further, but certainly the material put together is rather intriguin.
The majority of this material feels more in line with hardcore punk than it does with what the Chili Peppers would become known for-- pieces like "Police Helicopter" and the twelve second "You Always Sing the Same" would not have been out of place on a Dead Kennedys album. A good chunk of the other stuff is bizarrely experimental, from the detailed arrangement of "Blues for Meister", featuring intertwining guitar lines and a trumpet solo from Flea, the call-and-response vocal chant "Flea Fly".
Overall, much of this material is intriguing, but getting the remasters gets you over half of the essential material on here. The rest all but the most hardcore collector could probably live without.
Its Good Buy It.......2004-01-19
The only reason I wouldn't give this cd 5 stars is sound quality. The EMI people have made this cd nearly obsolete because they spread all of its tracks across the reissues. For the die hard Chili Peppers fan a must have.
Out In L.A........2002-09-01
This album was very difficult to find, but well worth the effort and money. While I don't particularly enjoy the remixes, and Behind The Sun isn't noticably different than the original from Mother's Milk (I think), the other songs and demos are very interesting. This CD is probably not for the mainstream listener because of the demo quality and funny, but cheap songs Stranded, Deck The Halls, and Flea Fly. "What It Is" is simply Flea playing and Anthony rapping lyrics combined from several of the demo songs, and it's also my favorite track on the album. "F.U." is rather funny and simple, and it's interesting to hear the demo tracks and how they sounded before they were put on album.
I'm glad I finally found this!.......2001-12-09
I looked for this CD forever, some of the best recordings of the peppers songs. Essential if you're a big fan (which I am) I finally found it at a CD warehouse, still my greatest moment. I listen to it constantly. Not a good CD for beginners, but for the die-hard fan, a must have!!

Salsa is a delectable melange of Cuban and Puerto Rican traditions plus brassy American big band arrangements--shaken not stirred. The term translates as "sauce," no doubt referring to what goes into making music spicy enough to tempt the Latin appetite. The style has covered a lot of ground since its inception in New York during the 1970s and now boasts fanatic adherents all over the globe. Some of these, such as Japan's Orquestra de la Luz, have achieved astonishingly literal recreations, but the most interesting permutations add a wicked local twist. For example, Scotland's Salsa Celtica perform in kilts, quote centuries-old Irish tunes, and sometimes explode into bagpipe solos. Italy's Havana Mambo features a baroque harpsichordist gamely pounding out montunos. Curaçao's own Arnell i Su Orkesta obviously admire Africando and other Senegalese salseros, while Shaan, from India, with their Santana-esque guitars and demented keyboards, are a Bollywood-tinged fever dream. -- Christina Roden

If you love world music!!!.......2006-10-12
It's a must have if you love world music. It great for dancing and just sitting back with friends and having a good time. You have singers from all over the world putting a twist on the latin music!!! It's a must have:-)
Good music.......2006-06-14
This is one of my favorite CDs and one of my favorite songs on here is forest flower, but the artist on this page is not the real artist. It says that the artist is apurimac, but the real artist name is Haris Catsimichas.
Don't be fooled...
World Latin Keeps Interest.......2006-05-31
Good Cha-Chas on this album. Don't let the album title mislead you. The album is Latin music in general and not strictly Salsa. For the dancers that take a critical ear to music, only 6 of the 12 songs are actually Salsas. The remaining songs are five Cha-Chas and one Rumba. I bought the album for the first track which is a very good Cha-Cha. I didn't expect a Salsa titled album to be a good source for that, and I think they should remarket it. The album is unique with the different flavors enhanced by languages and styles other than Spanish. Some may find it difficult to make the adjustment. You can dance to all the tracks except for one Salsa which is just a bit too fast. As a DJ, I found five songs worth ripping to play on the open dance floor. The other songs are suitable for practice.
The Origins of SALSA!.......2005-07-20
When the first great mass of Cubans fled their Island and entered the U.S just 90 miles away from their homeland due to political reasons in the 60's, they did not want to be reminded of any thing from Cuba. The Cuban youths in the U.S. only listened to the North American, British (rock & roll) music of the 60's and were absorbed in the psychedelic era sounds. Only the elderly would listen occasionally to the old Cuban music. However, the Puerto Ricans in New York (New York Ricans) were still listening and dancing the Cuban music in a faster pace with some changes to the rhythm appropriate to modern times labeling it salsa because of the blend of the Cuban son, mambo, guaguanco, rumba, guaracha, guajira that was played by the great talented bands of Tito Puente, Ray Barreto, Larry/Andy Harlow, the Palmieri brothers, Johnny Pacheco, Willie Colon, Lou Perez and many others from New York. It was the Puerto Rican Community that kept the Cuban music alive and popular (Fania All Stars) in the nation and around the world. Today salsa in played in many forms from many countries that adopt their country traditional music and incorporated in with the salsa rhythm. This is what this CD is all about; it all started with the Afro Cuban roots (mostly the Cuban son) the forerunner of what today is known as salsa. Buy it! you will not regret it!
Awesome salsa from unexpected sources.......2005-03-12
This CD is a great compilation of Salsa from different places than the top four(Puerto Rico, New York, Cuba, and Colombia). The quality of the musicianship is top notch and most of the songs are danceable salsa rhythms. These bands are all veteran musicians and the variety means it does not get repetitive, but even the deviation is grounded to such a level that I liked all songs.
This Cd will mostly appeal to hardcore salsa fans looking to expand their musical horizon. About half of the songs are in spanish with the other half in other languages which no one person would be expected to know all, but even those songs can be enjoyed due to their great rhythm and harmony. This CD is just as good for listening on the road as it is for dancing at a party.
P.S. As far as the definition of Salsa, salsa is usually defined not by what sub-rhythm it has, but rather its danceability. Salsa must be able to produce a meter of eight beats for a dancer to take six steps. This mixed with the percussion ensemble of Timbal, Conga, Bongos, Guirro, and/or Bell, etc. creates salsa, regardless of whether it is mambo, charanga, descarga, etc.

This DVD is spectacular. Andre Rieu is absolutely fascinating to listen to and the costumes of the orchestra as gorgeous. Well worth every penny.
Andre Rieu "Fiesta".......2005-09-20
This CD is absolutely fantastic. There is no musician quite like Andre Rieu. His music does indeed lift the spirit.
Fiesta.......2005-09-12
The music lifts my spirits! It is fun and lighthearted. I sincerely recommend this CD by Andre Rieu.
Not the best versions available.......2002-02-12
First of all, why call this recording
"Fiesta"? only for the first four latin-american
works? because the rest of the cd is of
German music.I you want a real "Fiesta"
disc, I recomendation is that disc
of Keith Lockhart, is much more fun and
much more in a fiesta spirit than this one.
This is a great album!.......2002-01-02
I highly recommend this album. Andre Rieu is a great violinist. If you buy this album you will not be dissappointed. I'd give it ten stars if I could.

Album Description
From Buenos Aires to Barcelona, Mississippi to Mauritania this collection documents the trials and tribulations expressed through the blues from a global perspective. Despite language or lyrics, nationality or ethnicity, the blues speak to everyone.
Highlight performances include The Unseen Guest, who formed when an Irish musician traveled to southern India and began playing on the streets accompanied by a tabla-toting native. Big Mama, who you might think must be from the Mississippi Delta, but she'll demonstrate that you can live in Barcelona and still know how to sing the blues. Spain's Jarabe de Palo contributes "La Flaca" ("The Skinny Girl"), which was a huge hit in Spain and Latin America. The legendary Bonnie Raitt is featured with longtime friend, Malian musician Habib Koité on "Back Around " from her 2003 album Silver Lining. From Mauritania, Amar Sundy demonstrates the kinship between West African music and the blues. Eric Bibb, Rory Block and Maria Muldaur are no strangers to the blues. This trio of friends grew up together in New York City's Greenwich Village during the turbulent 1960's and incorporates the spiritual side of the blues on "Don't Ever Let Nobody Drag Your Spirit Down." Taj Mahal partners with The Culture Musical Club of Zanzibar to weave a narrative of melody and rhythm on "Catfish Blues." The Brazilian blues group Blues Etílicos brings their unique Brazilian-flavored blues to the table. Recognizing the blues was born in the Mississippi Delta Otis Spann, who played piano in Muddy Waters' band for more than 20 years, belts out "I Got a Feeling".
A portion of Putumayo's proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to Music Maker Relief Foundation, Inc. An organization that helps true pioneers

John Lee Hooker used to say "the blues is a feeling," but this collection is proof that it's also a universal language. These 11 songs by musicians from South and North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa are a thoroughly enjoyable summation of the genre's ability to cut through cultural barriers to touch the heart. "Slide Blues" by Argentina's Botafogo could be a Delta relic if not for its Spanish lyrics. And singer Big Mama with harp man Victor Uris beautifully blur the lines between Catalonia and Chicago. The great pianist Otis Spann and the trio of Eric Bibb, Rory Block, and Maria Muldaur provide two straight-up shots of the style. The best tunes are outright cross-cultural collaborations.
Bonnie Raitt and Mali's Habibe Koité take the music to its deepest roots thanks to Koité's graceful kora-like acoustic guitar on "Back Around." The Unseen Guest, an Irish-Indian duo, bring microtonality to a blend of guitar, banjo, mandolin, and tabla in "Listen My Son." And Taj Mahal with the Culture Music Club of Zanzibar turn the standard "Catfish Blues" into a midnight howl that echoes from the Gulf of Mexico to the coast of the Indian Ocean. Mahal's guitar, a squeeze box, and a clutch of African stringed instruments pass rhythmic phrases and bursts of melody back and fourth until their musical points of origin are as delightfully blurry as a moonshine-fueled night in a Mississippi juke joint--or a dance hall in Zanzibar's Stone Town. --Ted Drozdowski

With the seventh installment of Pavarotti & Friends: For Cambodia and Tibet, the beloved tenor assembles yet another all-star cast of musicians in hopes of helping the children of Cambodia and Tibet. The music of the pop stars--which ranges from the modern rock of the veteran Eurythmics to the dance-pop of Aqua--really steals the show here, with Pavarotti lending his impeccable vocal support. Tracy Chapman performs "Baby Can I Hold You" as a duet with Pavarotti, and Eurythmics team up with him on "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)." Of course, the tenor's fans will be begging to hear the opera great in his element, and it's no surprise that he shines on Bizet's "Agnus Dei," with international pop star Mónica Naranjo joining in; Eduardo Di Capua's "O Sole Mio," with Savage Garden; or even Luigi Denza's "Funiculi, Funicula," with Aqua and a children's chorus. As globetrotting benefit tributes go, this is a mixed bag, but there's probably something here for everyone. --Jason Verlinde
Customer Reviews:
Excellent video...........2002-10-13
I am a fan of Savage Garden, The Eurythmics, and George Michael - all of them did a great job with and without Pavarotti....
And the man who sang O SOLE MIO - Darren Hayes (formerly of Savage Garden)... has the most beautiful- angelic- sultry and great voices I have ever heard - and to do it in Neapoliaton Italian (dialect) and in my opinion the best duet of ALL of them featured!!!!!
Great songs sung by a diverse group of artists.......2002-02-07
As always, Maestro Pavarotti's Modena concerts are highly entertaining and uplifting.
All artists sang two songs during the concert (one on their own and another with Maestro Pavarotti), but unfortunately not all of the songs are featured on this video. Another shortcoming is that there are no interviews or any extra footage.
It is funny to hear Pavarotti sing a pop tune as it is equally funny to see a pop singer with virtually no voice doing "O Sole Mio", but if it is all in good spirit and for charity, then it is enjoyable.
If you are intersted in European music scene or simply love Pavarotti, this tape will be a great treat for you.
Pavarotti's Best War Child Concert.......2002-01-04
Bravo showed this concert on New Years 2002 and it blew my mind. It is certainly the best of the War Child concerts, which started in 1996 as Pavarotti's effort to help the children of war-torn countries.
Like in the previous concerts, Pavarotti appears with international pop stars in the open-air piazza of his home town, Modena, Italy. (How do I get tickets for that?)
If you haven't heard any of these concerts, also available on CDs, you will be surprised how well Pavarotti's voice--a voice that makes the gods swoon--blends with the likes of Enrique Iglesias, George Michael, Tracy Chapman, and the Eurythmics. Previous concerts included B.B. King, Elton John, Ricky Martin, and Liza Minelli. Sometimes he sings along in English, sometimes in Italian counterpoint. The effect is stupdendous! These concerts display all the beauty of this great operatic voice while at the same time honoring the art of our greatest pop artists.
What makes this video the best is the children's chorus, the combined Ars Canto of Parmi, Italy, and the Children's Choir of Cambodia and Tibet. The video starts with this chorus joining Pavarotti and the totally sexy Enrique Iglesias in a rousing "Cielito Lindo."
Pavarotti really knows entertainment and in this one he pulls out all the stops! Best of all, part of the proceeds of this tape goes to benefit the children of Cambodia and Tibet. Pavarotti's efforts to help War Child have already built music centers for children in Kosovo, Liberia, and Guatemala. What great leadership!
He says on one of his jackets: "All too often, children are betrayed by the inhuman actions of adults, and become the innocent victims of war and cruelty. War Child is an energetic, and practical organization offering vital hope, working tirelessly for children to regain their rightful place in the world."
Very diverse! Loved it!.......2000-12-18
I am a HUGE Savage Garden fan so that was the main reason to buy this album. And I have to say Darren's voice is AWESOME in "O Sole Mio", the first time I listened to it it made me cry. So I bought the cd. I was glad to see that there are very enjoyable songs in the album not only the SG tracks. I loved Tracy Chapman's "Baby Can I Hold You Tonight" performance, now I am a Tracy fan too. You'll enjoy the performances by Aqua, Enrique Iglesias and Eurhytmics and of course the queen Tracy Chapman " ("Telling Stories" is superb!). I even discovered some new artists I had never heard of and I liked them. You won't be disappointed by this album.
A wonderfully enjoyable and diverse collection of music.......2000-11-05
This collection of music has given me great pleasure. Aqua's Around the World is a joy. Hearing the Eurythmics and Pavarotti perform together is fun and beautiful. I also especially liked Enrique Iglesias's Be with you. 20 tracks and 77 minutes of great music I will listen to again and again. And all for a good cause.

Customer Reviews:
Only half the songs of the original set!!.......2007-01-17
Although I love the CDs, I was disappointed that there were only about half of the songs I thought there would be. I bought the original double cassette set back in the early 90's and when I found the CDs with the same name and cover, I thought I was getting the same thing only on CD. But the Cassettes had twice as many songs, including Let it Snow,Have Yourself a merry Little Christmas,The First Noel, Jingle Bells by Jim Reeves, The Christmas song by the Carpenters and so many others!!
Its all Christmas.......2007-01-09
It reminded me of Christmas as a child. I played this all throughout the holidays.
A Good Basic Collection.......2006-02-11
This is a good, basic collection of Christmas Music. As a general rule, Time-Life has selected what is probably the definative artist/arangement of each song.
My only complaints are that there are only 24 songs on two disks and one or two of them are not ones that I would have picked (not my style).
Overall, it's a good set that I would recommend to anyone who wants to start a collection.

this cd was very good, much recommended
Poor Quality.......2005-12-05
The only good thing about this collection is the inclusion of so many Christmas standards. I was very disappointed in the quality of the recordings, they obviously need digital inhancement.
