Album Description
IN THE HOSPITAL by Dr. Peter Alsop & Bill Harley
Peter and his storytelling buddy Bill Harley find themselves in the hospital together, singing and getting into mischief with the other kids. This wonderful recording has been awarded the coveted PARENTS' CHOICE AWARD for Best Childrens Recording of the Year. It features clever songs and stories which empower children to better understand and cope with a hospital stay. It is also a fun resource for healthy children as it covers everyday issues such as self-esteem, appreciating individual differences and the importance of family and friends. Families laugh and learn healthy ideas about important children's issues while the songs encourage open-mindedness and foster imaginative thinking. This combination of humor and human values is entertainment at its best!
Also available with a bound book of the complete script with songs, fully annotated for medical professionals and parents by Penny Pefley,R.N., Diane Grimm,R.N., Peter Alsop,Ph.D.,and Bill Harley, S.T., which provides suggestions for parents and nurses about how to use the music with the children to promote understanding and take some of the fear out of a hospital experience.

Album Description
Featuring original music composed by Alberto Iglesias. Adapted from the best-seller John le Carre's romantic thriller, two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz head the cast of "The Constant Gardener." In a remote area of northern Kenya, the dedicated activist Tessa Quayle (Weisz) is found brutally murdered. Her travelling companion, a local doctor, appears to have fled the scene and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Sandy Woodrow (Danny Huston), Sir Bernard Pellegrin (Bill Nighy), and other member of the British High Commission assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered colleague Justin Quayle (Fiennes) will leave the matter to their discretion. They could not be more wrong... Featuring music performed by acclaimed Kenyan percussionist and Real World recording artist Ayub Ogada, Alberto Iglesias' ("La Mala Educacion," "The Dancer Upstairs," "Todo Sobre Mi Madre") lush score evokes the film's compelling African and European landscapes.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful Score.......2007-04-24
For someone like me who purchases soundtracks for the score to use for dance & skating programs, this soundtrack definitely made it into my collection. My only minus to the soundtrack is that there isn't much variety among the many tracks. But I am still able to work around it.
Only track 13.......2007-03-31
In my opinion, only track 13 is worthy of buy this CD. Track 13 is beautiful, other than that extremely depressing music...... Once again track 13 is the most beautiful adn touching music that I have ever heard!
Great Service.......2007-02-12
My CD was delivered in a very timely manner and the product was in great shape upon arrival.
A nice reminder of a very moving movie.......2007-01-12
Favorite songs are the ones by Ayub Ogada. I think it's wonderful that we found his music through this film.
it captures the spirit of the movie.......2006-11-10
I like this soundtrack because it reminds me of the movie, which I loved. I am not sure I would appreciate it much if I hadn't seen the movie and didn't have pictures in my mind for each theme. It is redolent of Africa though and that in itself is satisfying.

Pretty Good.......2006-07-29
This was a very unique item. Fans of the series will enjoy it. At times some of the tracks seem out of place when out of the game, but that's more than made up for by the many powerful and classic tracks that these CD's have. The first CD is more techno-inspired while the second is more operatic. It's good music to do push-ups to or to drive to. Especially the first track of the first CD.

As might be expected, the soundtrack to Hilary and Jackie plays a highly prominent role in this film about the emotionally fraught relationship between two gifted sisters, one of whom is the brilliant cellist Jacqueline Du Pré. Certainly composer Barrington Pheloung--whose credits include the Inspector Morse series and the evocative score to Truly, Madly, Deeply--faced a heady challenge in writing music to be heard alongside Du Pré's rhapsodic, signature interpretation of the Edward Elgar Cello Concerto, not to mention other classical selections. Even so, the resonantly autumnal, neo-Romantic flavor of his score aptly mirrors the narrative's flashback-oriented technique. His insistence on the cello's urgent high register (played by soloist Caroline Dale) creates a poignant musical portrait of its tragically stricken protagonist. Most of the CD, however, is given to the entire Elgar concerto--an especially effective choice as against the usual potpourri of classical snippets. This charged, elegiac, and easily accessible work--Elgar's own valedictory composition for orchestra--becomes a sort of musical metaphor for Du Pré's emotional journey and gains from being heard in its full context. While the performance featured here is conducted by husband Daniel Barenboim, you'll probably be inspired to try Du Pré's never-bettered version of the Elgar on EMI with John Barbirolli. --Thomas May
Customer Reviews:
identified the composer of the tune found in "Holiday Song".......2005-12-16
My father really enjoys the music from "Hilary & Jackie." His mother sang him the tune in "Holiday Song" as a child, as she heard it from relatives who were musicians. I found out from Barrington Pheloung's website that the melody was written by a composer named Johannes Fries, though it was originally attributed to Mozart. Just thought that I'd share that with you, since there apparently are others who are searching for the original music, too. The Elgar concerto is a classic recording, a mainstay in any basic classical library.
...masterful.......2004-03-04
Undoubtably the main focus of the c.d is the Elgar "Concerto for Cello and Orchestra which is presented in whole. Prior to Jacquelines performance of the work, it was little known, misunderstood, unloved and infrequently played...she was able to probe it's depths like no other person before her, Elgar's "Cello Concerto" needed her. But this particular recording isn't of her best, Barbirolli conducting the London Symphony Orchestra is highly regarded as the best. No two performances were exactly alike and the recording on this disc being her second performance, but it still paints a superb picture of a artist in full bloom.
Barrington Pheloung's score enhances the intense emotions portrayed in the film whether it's anger, pain, joy, depair or hope. Apart from the Elgar, the cello heard is from Caroline Dale...she is able to capture the spirit and sound of Jacqueline.
Absolutely Inspiring.......2001-05-12
Few orchestral pieces are so moving as Jacqueline DuPre's performances of Sir Edward Elgar's Concerto for Cello. The emotion that Ms. DuPre portrays is enough to make me want to grab a cello and play it (too bad I'm a flutist, ha). This album features the entire concerto, as well as several moving pieces composed for the film by Barrington Pheloung. This CD is an absolute must for any music lover.
Hilary and Jackie- The Music that made the film.......2000-02-03
The soundtrack can only be described as inspirational. Listening to the sountrack, which has been so well compiled, only deepens the feelings of loss felt for the late Cellist extraordinare, Jackie Du Pre.For lovers of the film this soundtrack is a must, the highlight definately being the rendition of Elgar's Concerto, by far Ms Du Pre's most highly acclaimed work.
profoundly romantic and tragic.......1999-09-23
Like many others, I was bewitched by the beauty of this music, let alone the uniqueness of Elgar's concerto and brilliant performance of Ms. Du Pre. My heart goes to the family, for their brave attitude and insightful proceeding of Jackie's story. The tune "Holiday Song", which used to be "their" song, I personally remember it from my childhood as a Mozart's tune, called "Lullaby". Unfortunately, I don't know how to get in touch with Jackie's family, but I wonder if anybody else noticed the same thing. My deepest respect for Jackie's art.

Beautiful Show.......2006-12-17
I have not seen this show, but after listening to it the whole way through, I want to very badly. The story is heartbreaking, and the music lends itself so well. At times it can be very spooky almost scary, and then other times as simplisticly beautiful as one could hope for. The music and lyrics are a bit repetitious, but this soundtrack tells the whole story. You can visualize everything going on. Its wonderful. I would suggest this to broadway collectors and just listners alike. Its also one that might be good for those who listen to books on tape, because you really do get the whole story, and it is stunningly beautiful. Favorite Song: "I Wonder What's Inside"

Customer Reviews:
a voice teacher and early music fan.......2006-06-18
These 2 discs offer the music of 3 different choirs and 4 different times periods. CD 1 features the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, performing 4 Coronation Anthems: Zadok the priest; My heart is inditing; Let my hand be strengthened and The King shall rejoice. Recording Date:August,1963. The second time period also featuring a King's College choir singing "Dixit Dominus" is Dec. 1986 and this offering is my favorite because the choir sings more skillfully than the 1963 choir and also because it features Michael Chance in the alto solos when he was in the early stages of his career (a real collector's item). CD 2 begins with Handel's "Foundling Hospital Anthem" sung by the Winchester Cathedral Choir in Feb. l993. They performed it well except the boy sopranos had a rather harsh sound on the high notes as if they were oversinging. The final selections :Utrecht Te Deum and Jubilate Te Deum were excellently sung by the Choir of Christ Church, Oxford recorded in July , 1979. I liked this choir a lot. They had "sparkle"; displayed a great deal of vocal energy and the boys' voices were glorious! Emma Kirkby was a soloist in the "Jubilate" and her voice is always clear and clean and bright. All in all this 2CD package has a lot to offer!!!
With a little help from a friend.......2006-02-25
I bought this CD as a help to sing the 1st sporano part for the Foundling Hospital Anthem. It is a crisp recording and helped me learn my part for performance. I have no regrets and would buy this CD again. The other pieces on the CD are also of high quality.
