Deep Cuts, Fast Remedies

Editorial Reviews
Album Description
SNOWDOGS play ultra catchy, flamboyant rock with a visceral edge and obvious pop sensibility. They successfully avoid the goofiness and sappiness that is often associated with other accessible rock acts. The brothers Leppanen possess a master’s knack for writing hyper-infectious hooks that serve as the backbone of their addictive, sing along tunes. Reflecting their classical training, various songs on the album also feature keyboards, horns and harmonica far outreaching the instrumentation used by other three- piece groups. They are continually compared to Artists like THE OFFSPRING, SOUL ASYLUM, GREEN DAY, PLACEBO and THE REPLACEMENTS. Produced by Steve Brown (The Cult, Manic Street Preachers, Wham!).

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Sunshine of our lives.......2004-10-06

Simply the feel good record of the year.
If this don't make you smile, nothing will.

3 out of 5 stars Too "Average".......2004-04-11

I went out and bought this album as soon as I heard "Average Kid". Bad mistake. "Average Kid" is great, and so is "Boy in the Bubble" but the rest of the songs are unspectacular and overly catchy. It was a dissapointment for me. Not a bad album, just not a great album.

3 out of 5 stars Mush!.......2003-10-23

You might want to dismiss Snowdogs as the next Offspring on their open track "Average Kid", with it's crunchy guitar riffs and brisk drumwork, but that's where the similarities end. The disc is infused with forceful melodies as well as mid-tempo rhythms. The lyrics are a mixture of seriousness and playfullness. "Popstars" is a catchy track that pokes fun at corporate-molded musicians, while "Freedom" is a protest against farm raised animals that are used for food. Snowdogs' trademark energy can be felt in "Million Pieces" and "Hell Outta Dodge". Both songs will have you up and pumping your fist. The group chills out on "Amazon" as the trio dreams about taking a load off after a hard day. Snowdogs show their musical diversity on "Hour of Sunshine", which has a pleasant horn section that reflects the groups early classical training, and "Lotta Lost Time" which has a country feel to it.

Bottom Line:
Infectuious pop-rock that's fun to listen too. The songs are memorible, energetic, diverse and addictive. If you want a good college party CD, this is it.

1 out of 5 stars Absolutely awful........2003-05-18

As a music reviewer, I feel a certain obligation to give everything a fair shake. I try my hardest to listen to everything that is put in front of me and pass a fair judgement on it. Someone took the time to create this music I am hearing, so the least I can do is listen. Right?

This brings me to the new Snowdogs CD - the first CD I've ever had to review that I couldn't even listen to all the way through. In the hundreds of CDs I have listened to for potential review, they have all at least played once from start to finish. This record wins the "Good god, isn't this song over yet? Time to hit the skip button" award. It's the inaugural winner.

So what's it sound like?

[Bad], mostly.

Snowdogs seems to be made up of three middle-aged men who long for the days of arena rock but are trying to adapt to pop punk and radio alt rock [and, inexplicably, ska on a few songs]. This album has absolutely no flow - every song is different from the one before, and they're all so bad that it's nearly impossible to stomach. Avoid this CD at all costs.

This honestly might be the worst CD I've ever heard in my life.
