good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27
We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.
memories.......2007-02-22
This cd is excellent it has a lot of very good music and true to the original sound, Am getting a lot of enjoyment, highly recomended
TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13
This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.
TV themes.......2006-07-05
Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.
Deja Vu.......2006-02-17
Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

Talk about high concept: this project features the house band of noted New York reggae label Easy Star covering Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon in the same sequence and in recognizable but reggae fashion. Here, the All Stars turn Floyd's strangely surreal world even stranger and more surreal, adorning the English band's dark psychedelic music with slow reggae beats and head-spinning dub-style production that is both inspired and effective. "Money" opens with the sound of bong hits and coughing instead of the cash register, then grooves to a reggae beat as guitar and organ churn out the classic riff--there's even the signatory sax break in the middle. The group hits it just right on "Great Gig In The Sky," retaining the soaring gospel voice, while the remake of the chiming bells on "Time" reveals a bit of irreverent humor. Tearing away at the alienation of the original, this infusion of new personality makes it all work, elevating the album's concept from the half-baked to visionary. --Tad Hendrickson

Pink Floyd + Reggae = Very cool & clever music!.......2007-06-03
I LOVE Pink Floyd and I like Bob Marley. So for me for me this combination of musical styles really work well together. The musicians are talented and the production quality is extremely good. Really cool and VERY clever music... Check out the first part of Money.
Like some weird genre accident gone right..........2007-05-30
Covers are fun... if you're playing them, but they're not always fun to listen to. Ninety-nine percent of the time the best we get is competent imitation. Then, quite a bit later, when we're anything but expecting it, along comes that pesky one-percent.
Add to that genre hopping, a weird and treacherous enterprise. Too often does it simply fail, or worse, the effort gets consigned to parody without getting the attention it deserves. Laziness and a lack of presence notwithstanding, this is one recording that requires a bit of attention before rendering judgement.
I first read about this project when I lived overseas... and at the time, I'll be frank, it sounded half-baked. But for some reason, it was the first cd I bought when I got home in 2003.
Truth be told, I've never been more satisfied with a cover than I have with this one. It is truly remarkable that the all-stars, or anyone for that matter, could pull this off. There is reinvention on a grand scale, but also tremendous attention (and respect) paid to the original recording. To render this album in such terms reveals not just a few things between Floyd and reggae in general.
who wudda thought? but brilliant.......2007-05-22
one could cynically accuse the all stars of glomming onto one of the top-selling albums of all time for this cover album. but, in fact, the reggae-floyd marriage works beautifully and this is a nice addition to the floyd pantheon.
in fact, dark side's ambient, luscious aural landscape fits perfectly with reggae's emphasis on texture and multi-layered production. the all stars musicianship is impeccable and they add nuance and new facets to the floyd classic. try it!
Very, very good, mon........2007-04-26
I first heard Pink Floyd's DSOTM when I was 13, and it completely changed my concept of what music could be. It is, of course, a seminal recording in rock music.
So imagine my surprise when I discovered this CD. As a traditionalist and generally unforgiving when you try and alter defined classics, I was VERY skeptical. But, I love DSOTM, and I love reggae, so I thought I'd give it a try.
Wow.
It works...it really does. Absolutely true to the original while changing the feel at the same time. They have taken great care to replicate certain critical aspects of the original: Nyambingi-style drumming replaces the opening heartbeat pattern in Speak To Me perfectly, the oscillating keyboard sound during On The Run, the woman's vocal lines during Great Gig In The Sky, and the keyboard feel during Any Colour You Like.
To me, Any Colour is the standout on the entire recording. It just seems so natural with a reggae beat behind it, and the trombones that cover Gilmour's guitar parts are dead on.
The only thing I found troubling was On The Run. It slips into this heavy raggamuffin hip-hop kind of techno beat. I've since grown accustomed to it, and it is okay, but it is quite different from the rest of the recording.
This is a VERY good tribute to the original. If you like reggae and you dig the Floyd, you will appreciate this heartfelt and sincere effort at a tribute of one of the greatest recordings of all time. Well done, gents.

Customer Reviews:
excellent cd.......2007-02-27
I got this cd primarily for two songs, All Star and Walking on the Sun. I tend to keep listening to my favorites, but the other songs are good too. Overall, a good CD that I will enjoy more with time.
Quite good :-).......2006-11-10
These guys have an old sounding but at the same time new twist on music that is quite refreshing after hearing all the hip hop, rap and grunge music out there.
Better then ever!.......2006-01-29
I've always loved Smash mouth, and this CD is the way to go for all fans. Or even if you're starting out, this is the one to get as it has several tracks on it you can't find on their other cds. such as Mystery Man and Pacific coast party. This is a good cd to get to sample all their works.
Beside's it has several of my favorite songs on it, such as Walking on the sun, When the morning comes, better do it right ( a song you can't find anywhere else except for the Grinch cd) and Waste. I'm just disappointed they didn't come out with this cd sooner before I spent money on buying soundtracks just for one single smash mouth song.
This is a good cd .......2005-11-27
I love this cd it's pretty good my fav song is allstar
They Are All Stars.......2005-10-01
The 1990's really brought out the waves of pure feel-good party bands. For acts like The Offspring with Pretty Fly For A White Guy, and of course Sugar Ray featuring Mark McGrath and their upbeat track Fly, they have really been the staples of the feel good pop side of music. Smash Mouth is also no acception. During their glory days, mid-90's, and the early 2000's, the group has been really the leaders with making great party songs for everybody. They started right at the top, and still haven't lost their way. Yet, while there are some who have forgotten them, the songs definitely live on.
Smash Mouth's 2005 All Star Smash Hits, is a packaged collection of their biggest tracks from their era in the top 40. The collection actually delivers very well with remastering and compiling some of their best tracks including songs for movies like Clockstoppers, Mystery Men and Shrek. While some of those films died in vein, the music for those ill-fated flicks actually outlasted as great guilty pleasures 2 to 1. The collection includes great party songs like their first big hit, Walkin' On The Sun, their biggest hit All Star, the Neil Diamond cover of I'm A Believer, the quirky Then The Morning Comes, and Pacific Coast Party. While the album delivers well, it does overlook only one song, the tropical-styled You Are My Number One which was used in ads for Chrysler a couple of years ago.
Although it is just a shame many people don't seem to remember Smash Mouth as much anymore. Nevertheless, All Star Smash Hits is absolutely a must have for anybody who loves great guilty pleasure songs. They are still walkin' on the sun.

Mostly excellent with one baffling decsion.......2007-04-17
The album is really really good and I recommend it highly. I don't think they knocked this one out of the park like they did with 'Dub Side' but easily a stand-up double.
My one gripe is why in the world they picked Citizen Cope to do Karma Police?? There are so many capable reggae singers that would have just made this song killer and I love what the musicians did with the arrangement but I just can't get over Clarence simultaneously feigning Thom Yorke's voice and a Jamaican accent. He murders the song for me. Don't get me wrong he's a fine artist in his own right but this was not his place. My opinion is that if you are going to do a reggae album get *reggae* artists or be prepared to upset some passionate (READ: cranky) reggae fans.
Imagine KP sung with a real heavy Jamaican singer's voice like Buju or Sizzla ("This is what you get...") or given the royal treatment with Barrington Levy ("Karma police...). This would have been not only the best song on the album but possibly of the year. Of course, those are huge names in reggae but so are Horace Andy and Toots Hibbert. Even talented less-famous artists (Where's Corey Harris & Ranking Joe this time around?) would have made this song stand out rather than stick in my side.
Everything else is great and they did an amazing job with arranging some very difficult material. Some highlights for me:
- Horace Andy! He does a bang up job on Airbag.
- The opening riff of Electioneering is brilliantly transformed into an organ. Possibly my single favorite part of the ablum.
- 'Paranoid Android' drags at first (not a huge fan of the Kirsty Rock performance but it's growing on me) but then come the horns for the middle part which really take the song into an unexpected epic reggae march.
- The Meditations sound sublime as always with their rendering of 'No Surprises'.
-And of course, Toots Hibbert throws 'Let Down' for a loop and makes you smile while listening.
Very Very Good.......2007-01-05
When I first heard Dub Side of the Moon, I thought it was amazing. This album I did not expect as much out of. However, it is also an amazing listen. Even if you aren't a Radiohead fan, you can love this music. If you are a Radiohead fan though, you are in for a special treat. This album is great!
How Do You Redo That?!.......2007-01-04
Beautiful record!! It grows on you the same way the original did. The same mood is present, but w/ a nice, soulful twist landing on the ones & threes. You gotta buy this ingenius record! I can only wait patiently for their next feat!
Too hyped.......2006-11-03
To say that this album is in the same degree, better, or even close to Dub Side. I say, hellllllll no, I don't know what these people here are talking about. To start, you simply can't compare the emotional and instrumentally multidimensional Dark Side of the Moon with Radiohead, come on. This album is much more one-dimensional, simplistic, and monotonous. There is nothing special here, and as far as reggae goes, I can name you 25 reggae albums with more soul and better than this, even those two dub solos at the end do not amount to anything; Scientist, Mad Professor, and Augustus Pablo 30+ yrs. ago did dub 50 times better than that.
If you are looking for good reggae albums, here are a few. Bob Marley - Babylon by Bus (his best most polished live album by far), Third World - Ultimate Collection (one of the most instrumentally achieved groups in roots reggae), Augustus Pablo - East of the River Nile (this one is very unique and just a great classic), Matisyahu - Live at Stubbs (great new reggae with lots of soul), Los Pericos - Mystic Love (this guys are from Argentina and very versatile, way better than this album, you'll be surprised), Mad Professor - The African Connection (an obscure dub gem) and of course Dub Side of the Moon (a must). I could name some more but you can't go wrong with these ones.
Fitter, Dubbier.......2006-10-31
What an enjoyable trip! Especially "Let Down", Toots makes it a work of praise to the heavens; "Fitter, Happier", the true genius moment where the Rastaman's paranoia comes out; and "Exit Music", Sugar Minott has a good thing going on that one. Only bummer: "Subterranean Homesick Alien", probably my fave track on the original - George Michael seems to be singing it here, not that I mind George but it's too white-sounding to be included here. Am I in trouble?

Karaoke music.......2007-02-11
I bought this CD because it had so many great songs of Carrie Underwood. I was learning them all. This was All Star Karaoke. I had heard of them but wasn't sure of the quality of music. I usually buy Sound Choice. That is to me the best but this actually has a pretty good sound to it. When you buy online you are taking a chance cause you can't always listen before buying. What I liked about this Cd is this that the music & words were very close to the original songs. It has background vocals, very important. I try to buy cd's where the words & music as well as the arrangement of the song is a close to the original as possible. Bought a Cd once that when I went to sing the next part of the song it wasn't there. They put in a instrumental where your'e supposed to sing. This cd has a great selection of Carrie's hits & has a qauality sound. Also a great price for what I got. Thank you.
Completely satisfied.......2007-02-09
My daughter needed this cd for a school audition. Of course the local stores were sold out with it being right after the Christmas holidays and lucky for us we found it here. It was a last minute order but the cd arrived in time and my daughter's audition went great. She was selected to sing one of the songs from the cd for the JROTC military ball which just so happens to be this weekend. Thank you so much for having the product available and to everyone who helped it reach it's destination in time. You are all awesome!

This sampler album of excerpts from seven other Anonymous 4 releases is a good introduction for anyone who is unacquainted with the A4's startlingly pure singing and virtually celestial blend. But if you fall under the spell of this outstanding a capella quartet, the present disc will become extraneous because you'll want to own the complete recordings from which it's drawn. If you prefer complete works to samplers, try taking the plunge with "An English Ladymass" or "On Yoolis Night." --Sarah Bryan Miller

An aural treat for lovers of vocal music.......2007-04-14
If you love vocal music these gals are fabulous! This is a best of album, which is always good as an introduction to a new artist. It gives you a taste of their various albums, so you can go ahead and pursue the ones you like. Enjoy!
Enchanting.......2007-01-10
If you enjoy music that takes you to a different time and place, you will get lost in time with this beautiful work.
If Angels Ever Recorded A CD.......2006-03-16
Four female voices have never blended together so perfectly and beautifully as do those of the 'Anonymous 4.' Their CD titled, 'Portrait' contains a selection of tracks from seven other previous CD's, kind of a "Best Of" you might say.
If angels ever came down from heaven to record a CD this is what they would sound like.
Harmonious, Celestial, Purifying and Eternal.
another exquisite performance.......2006-02-27
This amazing quartette is so talented. The Christmas cd reminds me of Christmas 50 years ago in rural England where I grew up. It contains the only rendition of The Holly and the Ivy I have heard that actually does the carol justice.

I learned about this quartet though a review in Stereophile magazine. Although they don't publish a lot of reviews, I've had exceptionally good luck with their past picks and have been able to branch out successfully in new musical directions as a result.
These four women are virtuoso female vocalists, hauntingly pure of voice. They perform music from centuries ago in the same type of setting that it was originally performed in, with stunning results. I'm generally not one for "religious" material (this is the first recording of this nature I've ever bought), but this music goes so far back in time that it sounds more primal than Christian overall.
A refreshing change when you're in the right mood, and something that can relax even you type A personalities out there (and you *know* who you are :) , I can suggest this one without reserve. You'll be adding a nice, quiet corner to your collection, and you'll probably wind up visiting it more than you ever imagined.

Album Description
"So Amazing" is a collection of the most memorable hits from Vandross' musical legacy. Artists and songs featured on the album include Mary J. Blige ("Never Too Much"), Aretha Franklin ("A House Is Not A Home"), Usher ("Superstar"), Beyonce & Stevie Wonder ("So Amazing"), Alicia Keys ("If This World Was Mine" - duet with Jermaine Paul), Donna Summer ("Power of Love"), Celine Dion ("Dance With My Father"), Patti LaBelle ("Here and Now"), Jamie Foxx ("Creepin"), Elton John ("Anyone Who Had A Heart" - duet with Luther's original vocals), Fantasia ("Til My Baby Comes Home"), John Legend ("Love Won't Let Me Wait"), Babyface ("If Only For One Night"), Angie Stone ("Since I Lost my baby") and Wyclef Jean ("Always and Forever").
Luther Vandross was undeniably one of the most significant balladeers of our time. Since the 1981 platinum-selling release of "Never Too Much," Luther's recording career spanned over two decades and resulted in a lifetime of chart topping hits. Through the 1980's, he recorded a string of platinum albums, including "Forever, For Always, For Love," "Busy Body" and "The Night I Fell In Love." He scored his first Grammy Award in 1989 with "Here And Now." His last studio album, 2003's "Dance With My Father," received 4 Grammy Awards (including Song of the Year for the title song "Dance With My Father") and has generated worldwide sales exceeding 3 million copies. Collectively, Luther's body of work has sold in excess of 30 millions records worldwide, winning eight Grammy Awards, numerous Soul Train, BET, NAACP Image Awards and American Music Awards. Vandross died on July 1, 2005 from complications from the stroke he suffered in 2003. He was 54.

Luther would love it.......2007-06-28
I don't know if the album was finished in time for Luther to hear it, but he would have loved it. Let's bow down for the Queen of Soul's "House is Not a Home"- with her bluesy-gospel styling- this alone is worth the price of admission. I can see myself standing on the concert hall chair screaming "sang girl!"
There is variety-"Anyone who had a heart" is sung along with Luther, a la Natalie Cole/NK Cole (Unforgettable), a reggae beat covers one song, a disco beat covers another. A myriad of styles abound, and you'll think "Oh, that's a cool way to redo that song!" Luther would move and groove to it, he would smile and be proud, as I am.
So Amazing!.......2007-05-12
An absolute must for all Luther fans. I was very impressed with Usher singing Superstar and of course the haunting voice of Stevie Wonder on So Amazing is awesome. A real gem for the collection.
Ok CD.......2007-03-08
This CD is not as great as I thought it would be...not all the guest artist's on this CD did justice to Luther's tunes, it would almost appear that I'm judging contestants on American Idol.
Great Collabration.......2007-03-06
Well, this CD really does do Luther Vandross justice. All the artists have done him proud. Recommend this to all Luther Vandross followers.
Thanks for a Job Well Done.......2007-01-10
This is an excellent tribute to Mr. Luther Vandross from very talented Musicians! You could feel the respect for his music done in a way that I think Luther would have been very proud to hear.

Album Description
Top of the British Classical Charts for 10 Weeks! Billboard Top Ten Classical Recording - December 2002! This album gathers together most of the carols I have composed over the years, plus a sprinkling of my arrangements of traditional carols, grouped to form a program which narrates, reflects upon, and celebrates the Christmas story. I have always enjoyed carols ever since I first sang them as a member of my school choir, and it was not long before I began to write carols of my own-in fact my first two published compositions were the Nativity Carol and the Shepherd's Pipe Carol. For any musician involved in choral music, Christmas is an especially joyous time, and I am indeed happy that it has played a part in my musical life for so many years- JOHN RUTTER
Customer Reviews:
Rutter Christmas Album.......2007-05-14
Great selection of music, and well presented. This is however older recordings that do not match the quality of Rutter's latest recordings such as the Te Deum or the Gloria.
Unique and Beautiful!.......2007-03-09
John Rutter, and his beautiful music, is such a gift to the world. This unique Christmas CD is magnificent! Especially touching are two of Rutter's original carols, "Christmas Lullaby" and the joyful "Angels' Carol." The musical selections speak to the soul, helping the listener connect to emotions of joy, peace, faith, hope, and love. This is a worthy addition to your collection of Christmas CDs.
Johh Rutter Chirstmas Album.......2007-02-19
If I were to choose only one Christmas album to ever own, this would be the one. John Rutter is an exceptional composer of religious music, with unusual harmonies. The music is difficult to sing, and because this is his own choir and he is directing it, the performance is flawless. Gives you goosebumps.
Liked it enough to go through a lot of trouble to give it a review........2007-02-07
Great music by John Rutter: Great performance!
John Rutter and Cambridge Singers.......2007-01-18
This is quintessential English cathedral music; beautifully sung. Reminds one of the English Christmas -- warm and serene -- that we've only experienced in our dreams!

Why have the once-ignored sounds of organ-centric jazz become all the rage in the past few years? With so much overtly commercial product in the marketplace, from teeny pop to smooth jazz to new country, perhaps audiences are pining for the funky, pure soul found in such killer keyboardists as Charles Earland, Charles Kynard, and Larry Young. Unfortunately, none of those players appear on Organ-ized. This 13-track collection does give a good overview of mostly contemporary organ honchos. Jimmy Smith, Reuben Wilson, and Jack McDuff offer old school standards, while comparatively recent newcomers Larry Goldings and Joey DeFranceso stoke the high-flying engine of postbop. The bulk of the collection centers on modern styles, at times to a glut. Tracks two through five (John Medeski, Art Neville, Michael Omartian, and Galactic) are practically all the same sixteenth-note rhythm and tempo, recalling the zydeco craze. But it does get better. Ricky Petersen offers popping fusion, Mike Finnegan a little fatback R&B, Tommy Eyre a much-needed raunchy blues shuffle. Although not the last word in organ gratification (women like Shirley Scott and Barbara Dennerlen are missing), Organ-ized is a good primer for those about to groove. --Ken Micallef

Mind-boggling.......2006-12-17
This collection of lovingly-selected Hammond organ feature tunes is a must-have for anyone who shares the addiction for the sounds of electro-mechanical music. It's not only brilliant, it's historic.
I'm not guaranteeing you'll like every cut on the CD; there are one or two that I find a bit tedious. You may not love every track... but even my less favorite tracks are still salient in that they contribute to the full-round picture of the capabilities of Hammond consoles and artists.
If you have a jazz fan or any keyboardist in your circle of friends, this would be a great gift.
You can't get that "Hammond" sound without a LESLIE!.......2006-02-08
Make no mistake.......this is a great album. If you like the Hammond-Leslie sound then this is a must buy. I liked all but one song but it hasn't dampened my view. The songs cover everything from clean to distorted sounds. A pleaser for most styles. Just remember.......the Hammond sound ain't squat without the LESLIE. Let's quit forgetting Don and move him to the front page!
Hammond B3 at it's Best.......2005-10-10
If you love the Hammond B3, you'll love this collection.
A great sampling of various styles, each with it's own
"twist". From Mike Finnegan To Art Neville you'll love
this CD
Couldn't ask for more.......2002-01-25
I chuckled when reading other reviews on this CD (Organ-ized). So much indignant sniffing and left-handed compliments. Want the nitty-gritty of this CD? Well, read on, please ..........
For those of you who love the sound and feel of the B3, you must have this CD. For players, the same. For those curious about what all the fuss is about, you won't go wrong in adding this to your collection. For B3 sophisticates and snobs .............. well there is no hope for you anyway, so you may as well buy it too just to give you something to denigrate (no offense folks :)
The lowdown on this CD = it rules! Every selection, regardless of the gernre', is a classic example of the best that can be extracted from this instrument.
For those who have not actually played this instrument, consider this: it is a massive structure made of wood and wire. It smells of oil. When you sit and play it, it rumbles. You get the feeling that it is alive (organic?). It takes you over. It can require the use of both hands, both feet, and your knee (for the leslie switch). It is unlike any other instrument on the planet.
There is plenty on this CD for anyone to love and hate, but it all has this underlying secret: B3 players in their prime are passionate. They can rock you like no other medium.
Critisms? Okay, there are no tracks by Keith Emerson, nor Barbara Denerlein or a number of other premier players. There is a goodly representation of cajun-style organ, perhaps to the detriment of others that could have been represented. But this by no means detracts from the range presented, from the sublime to the demented, from the beautiful to the possessed, it's all here, masters at their best.
Don't listen to these tracks once. Play them a few times before you add it to the rack. If you do, I'd be willing to bet that this will become a staple of your discography.
Get Organ-ized.......2000-06-17
If you appreciate the mainly modern funky energetic approach to the Hammond tonewheel organ this is a must have. Ricky Petersen and Joey de Francesco dispay exciting virtuoso dexterity, while Michael Omartian and Art Neville have some great melodic, funky and soulful tunes. A few tracks are more traditional and laid back, so the album covers many styles.

Customer Reviews:
Awesome Set!.......2007-07-01
I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith. They did a great job preserving his vision. I can listen to this collection for hours. Great music!
Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection.......2006-11-03
This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton?
Overall a strong Goldsmith sampler.......2006-04-11
Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo.
Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm).
Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks".
It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison.
But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva.
Jerry Goldsmith - 40 years of pleasure.......2006-02-22
It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius!
Almost the perfect compilation.......2005-12-31
Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having.
However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe.
However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan.
Before there was Hans Solo there was Napolean Solo, before ER there was Dr. Kildare. Jerry Goldsmith IS Sci-Fi. "Resistance is futile.. you MUST assimilate this CD collection."
