To Six Billion
piladelphia city paper july 5 2002
heart-scratching ditties that gracefully glide with charming synthesizer melodies, AFX-ish breakbeats splattering minimal blips and uppity drum n bass
Sean O'Neil, Philadelphia City Paper, July 5th, 2002
...dark yet uplifting, heart-scratching ditties that gracefully glide with charming synthesizer melodies, AFX-ish breakbeats...
Album Description
To Six Billion is the result of a conscious effort by the artist to reconcile the disparities of an eclectic array of musical tastes and influences and fuse them into an autonomous and unique sound. Adamently against the notion of genres, Paul Edwards has created an album which is difficult to categorize. It could be described as "dark ambient scientific jungle jazz with a healthy splash of all things post-rock." Drum and bass and glitch elements are combined with guitar, saxophone (performed by Aino Soderhielm), and occasional jazz vocals (Sierra Hurtt-Akselrod). The overall sound is moody, soulful, and sophisticated.
