Sponge Brain

Editorial Reviews
Music Connection Magazine 1999 - Jon Pepper
Blending deft lyrics with tasty music. Her songs are always passionate. A talented songwriter, fine presenter of her own material.

From the Artist
"I want to take audiences on a melodic and honest journey with my music," Lavella said. "Writing and performing is a creative outlet for me and like most artists I use it cathartically. Connecting with audiences is the rewarding part."

Album Description
Compared to artists such as Joan Osbourne, Paula Cole and Dave Matthews. Sponge Brain shows us an artist who is in touch with her deepest self, who is not driven by current trends. Libby tackles themes such as child abuse, the affects of religious education, adoption, suppression, The Tall Poppy Syndrome, life and love and honesty.

Sponge Brain, independently recorded on Lavella’s own label Tall Poppy Productions, includes Lavella and her band and features a number of notable musicians.

Frank Gambale performs on various guitars, Dave Palmer, of Fiona Apple, Seal and Joe Henry fame, plays various vintage keyboards and sounds and the legendary Brazilian nylon string-guitar player, Badi Assad, graces the album as well.

U.S. rapper, Big Skye, contributes the spoken word on the track Stoning the Crow, and respected L.A. sound engineer and producer, Michael Perfitt, who has worked with Seal, Art of Noise, Melissa Etheridge and Trevor Horn, produced three of the tracks and performs on the acoustic guitar.

Other notable contributors include Debra Dobkin, percussionist for Bonnie Raitt and Don Henley, and Australian Angus Marshall, who co-wrote and played the track Seven Stages.

Libby Lavella's music was referred to in the LA Times as Pop Soul fusion. A musical journey with catchy melodies and lyrically full of symbolism with a unique blend of harmonies.

Sponge Brain showcases Libby’s talents as a true dedicated artist, singer, songwriter, and pianist.
