Album spotlight

Carlos Olmeda, "Sensitive Groove" (Bella Nova): Unlike the golden-girl singer cruising through the title track of his new album, Carlos Olmeda may not kill you with his sensitive groove. But his sharp folk-rock tunes are guaranteed to pierce you where it hurts.

Beginning with the hushed paranoia of "A Girl Downstairs" and winding through the antsy musings of "A Devil Like Me" and the snarky title track, "Sensitive Groove" is full of pretty music with a pungent bite. Olmeda has the breathy Dan Fogelberg croon down cold, but his blend of folk simplicity and pop ambition give his songs both a bright surface and an arresting depth.

About the Artist
Born in Puerto Rico and currently residing in San Diego, Carlos Olmeda is a crossover artist who bridges the distance between his Afro-Latin roots and the English pop of his radio days. Olmeda's mix of traditional American forms of music with Afro-Latin influences contributes to a style of writing and singing that sets Olmeda apart from his contemporaries. He calls it "TriCult World Pop" and jokes, "People listen to it during that part of the day when they need a break from their every day... read more

    5 out of 5 stars It's fantastic ! It's all I've listened to since I got it........1999-10-19

I first heard Carlos and Noel play at Claire de Lune in North Park back in Febraury, 1999. I thought they were terrific and I went to hear them play almost every Friday. I haven't listened to anything else since buying their CD last August. I don't even know what the latest songs are because I haven't turned on the radio in months. Maybe that's a little overkill, but the songs touch every emotion. They make me happy, they help me relax, they get me excited, and they make me think about life...all at once! They're also fun to sing along to. I highly recommend this CD to anyone and everyone. Many of my friends really enjoy it too. I can't wait until his next one!
