Since forming almost four years ago, the Los Angeles-based quartet has recorded, produced, and financed three CDs: their self-titled debut (1996), Hotel Roselynn (1998), and the soon-to-be-released Population 02. Their debt and sophomore CDs have scanned over 3,000 units in the Western region alone, with sales at shows more than doubling that impressive total.
The band is a favorite of listeners at college radio, placing them on CMJ's music charts. In addition, two of Watsonville Patio's dreamy pop songs have appeared in the feature film Mohave Moon starring Angelina Jolie and Danny Aiello.
As the Iowa State Daily noted, "Perhaps one of the best compliments to Watsonville Patio is that it is difficult to accurately compare its sound to other bands. Listeners definitely hear hits of R.E.M. melodies as well as the pop sensibility of Liz Phair. But members of Watsonville Patio attack their music with an energy that makes it distinctly their own."
