Thanks to three years of constant touring, Watsonville Patio are steadily winning over audiences nationwide with its soaring brand of ambient groove-pop. Since forming almost four years ago, the Los Angeles-based quartet has recorded, produced, and financed three CDs: their self-titled debut (1996), Hotel Roselynn (1998), and the soon-to-be-released Population 02. Their debt and sophomore CDs have scanned over 3,000 units in the Western region alone, with sales at shows more than doubling that impressive total.

The band is a favorite of listeners at college radio, placing them on CMJ's music charts. In addition, two of Watsonville Patio's dreamy pop songs have appeared in the feature film Mohave Moon starring Angelina Jolie and Danny Aiello.

As the Iowa State Daily noted, "Perhaps one of the best compliments to Watsonville Patio is that it is difficult to accurately compare its sound to other bands. Listeners definitely hear hits of R.E.M. melodies as well as the pop sensibility of Liz Phair. But members of Watsonville Patio attack their music with an energy that makes it distinctly their own."

Sudden changes of plans, hastily set-up shows, and the wear-and-tear of the road don't phase Watsonville Patio, who all but define the term "a band in a van". They take their strength from the full drop-force dynamism, the pop sensibilities, and folk-flavored melodiousness fans all over the country have discovered.

Full of tart and heartfelt lyrics, not to mention tangy guitar riffs full of feeling, Hotel Roselynn is a must have in anyone's cd collection. Having been fortunate enough to see this band live, I can attest to the pure skill and raw emotion Watsonville Patio puts forth in every song. This energy and enthusiam for music is not only apparent when seeing this band live, but is shockingly apparent on Hotel Roselynn as well. It is not often one can find a band which satisfies the listener both in concert and on CD. The lead singer of Watsonville Patio has a voice which contains tint of a somewhat Stevie Nicks quality and the band only serves to enhance the overall talent of this group. Sure to slowly, but steadily become a house-hold name, Watsonville Patio, and their CD Hotel Roselynn, is simply a recording one cannot pass up.
